Graphic courtesy of Leandrofg (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats) Since we last reported from the Jansers, Marcel has progressed to the finals with his squad and Daniel was swept by the Dragons. Let's jump into the summaries, shall we? 4-3 (OT) In a very tight game which could have gone either way (and in fact, judging by the shots only, should have gone to Cologne), the Iron Eagles defeated the Express in a 4-3 sudden death decision. All started well for the German contender, when they scored a couple of goals late in the first period, the later of the two on a man advantage. The second period remained without a marker. In the final frame, Cologne extended their lead to a three nothing advantage. They scored thirty seconds after face off, converting a high-sticking penalty by Cat from the previous period. At this point the Express looked like the certain winner. In the twelfth minute Adolfsen pulled one back and Young with a power play marker five minutes later gave the Eagles the second wind. Bridgers scored the equalizer only half a minute later. The game ended 3-3 in regulation and subita morte was to decide the game. It was Puk with his first post season goal in the VHLE who delivered the dagger in a power play. Bridgers (1g/1a), Maellard (2g/0a) and Greg (1g/1a) were named the three stars of the game. Jute, the Berlin Wall, stood on his head to keep his team in the game with a .948 saving rate, which was significantly better than Freeze's .900. Vasteras' power play was highly efficient (2/4) and the box play units killed off more than their fair shares of penalties (8/10). Marcel was registered with 0g, 0a, -1, 2 hits and 6sb. And with that victory, Vasteras is awaiting the outcome of the series between Constantinople Byzanz Istanbul and Beardislava Bratislava to see, who they will face in the Renaissance Cup finals. 3-4 (OT) In a game where the Wranglers had a slight advantage on shots fired the Canadians lost 4-3 in overtime to the DC Dragons. Between the thirteenth and nineteenth minute, the Wranglers scored three consecutive goals by Telker, Kotkakoivu and Tessier for a 3-0 lead going into the second period. The latter went to DC as they scored a brace, one of which was on the power play. With seven minutes left in the game, the Dragons scored the game tying goal and took the match into overtime. After 14:37 minutes they scored their fourth unanswered goal for the win. The three stars were awarded to Mourning (2g/1a), Peepants (0g/3a) and Vidot (1g/1a). Dahl (.905) in Calgary's net had to yield to Utonium (.935) minding DC's net. Calgary's power play was inexistent (0/5) while the penalty kill was okay (3/4). Daniel left the ice with 0g, 1a, +1, 5 hits, 3sb and FO% 46.15. 4-6 The second match of the series went 6-4 to DC. The first period was a rollercoaster with three goals each. Jokinen with two markers, one of which was a power play goal and Reinhart with a converted man advantage found the back of the net for the Albertans. In the second period the Wranglers pulled ahead with Telker's goal before the Dragons tied the game again before the second intermission. The final frame ended with two goals to none in favour of DC. Jokinen (2g/1a), Vidot (1g/2a) and Idaho (1g/2a) were elected for the three stars. Neither Dahl (.860) nor Utonium (.867) showed an all star performance, with the better end for the DC keeper. Calgary's power play was excellent (2/3) whereas the box play resembled a sieve (3/6). Daniel had 0g, 0a, -1, 2 PIM (Hooking, lead to a goal), 4 hits and 66.67% efficiency on the hash marks. 3-1 In the third clash, the Dragons won 3-1. They took the first period with a 1-0 intermediary score. They extended the lead by one in the second period, before Reinhart with a power play marker cut same in half again. Midway through the third US team scored the decisive goal to take the win home. The three stars were given to Mourning (1g/1a), Utonium (38 saves) and Vidot (0g/2a). In net, both Dahl (.930) and Utonium (.974) showed much improved over their previous performance, with the advantage for the DC netminder. Calgary's power play was okay-ish with 1/5 converted and the penalty kill was significantly better than in the last match with 5/6 times shutting the door. Daniel logged 0g, 0a, +0, 2 PIM (Tripping, no effect on the score), 4 hits, 2sb and 50.00% win rate at the draw. 4-3 (OT) In a match where Calgary can justifiably lament a stupendous lack of puck luck (shots 69-41 in their favour) conceded the final game 4-3 after extra time. Kotkakoivu and Janser with his first (and last) post season goal in this playoff run scored the goals in the first period for the Wranglers against one marker of DC. Daniel's goal was a bar down one time slap shot after Tessier won the face off in the Dragons' den. In the second period, DC scored the sole goal to make the game 2-2 going into the third. In the last regulation frame, Jokinen scored in power play, but such feat was mirrored by the Dragons to equalize the game once more. After 8:19 minutes in the overtime DC delivered the dagger and advance to the conference final. Sova (1g/2a), Idaho (1g/2a) and Utonium (66 saves) were given the post game honours. Dahl (.902) performed decent, but Utonium (.957)was just stellar and stole the game for their colours. Calgary's power play was lacking (1/8) and can be seen as one of the reasons why this game was lost, while the penalty kill units did their job adequately (4/5). Daniel had 1g, 0a, 2 PIM (Roughing, no goal was scored), 6 hits and FO% 44.44 to his name. The playoff stats for the Jansers are as follows: Marcel: 4gp, 0g, 2a, +3, 6 hits, 15sb Daniel: 7gp, 1g, 2a, +3, 14 PIM, 29 hits, 5sb, FO% 54.67 While Daniel's production has room for improvement, he is one of the league's leaders when it comes to grit. He landed 29 hits for the second place, only bested by one-man-hitting-machine Detroit. He is fifth in hits received (24) and seventh in PIM (14). So the drop in scoring is certainly not for the lack of putting his body on the line. We will follow up with Marcel's campaign for eternal glory as soon as news reach us. Stay tuned for further updates. https://vhlforum.com/topic/123872-a-tale-of-two-brothers-past-the-third/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/124004-a-tale-of-two-brothers-approaching-the-half-way-mark/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/124101-a-tale-of-two-brothers-hot-in-the-city/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/125122-a-tale-of-two-brothers-a-dark-horse-on-the-rise/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/125211-a-tale-of-two-brothers-express-train-to-the-final/ GM 7: Vasteras Iron Eagles vs. Cologne Express (vhlportal.com) GM 41: Calgary Wranglers vs. D.C. Just in case you wondered: The Hockey stadium of HC Davos (the real life one) is on the extreme left just under the middle and on top of DLR's head (the building which seems to have a cross shaped blueprint).

Graphic courtesy of Leandrofg (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats) While Daniel has a short respite before entering the playoffs proper, Marcel is in full swing with Vasteras. Please find the match summary as follows. 4-3 (OT) In the third match of the series (2-0 lead for the Swedes), Vasteras extended its lead by one and is at the brink of eliminating Cologne from the playoffs after a 4-3 OT win. Cologne was on the board first with an early powerplay goal. Vasteras answered with a brace from Young and a marker by Adolfsen, all in even strength. In the second period, the Express was able to pull one back with an other power play conversion. Cologne scored the equalizer halfway through the third frame. You guessed it, it was the third goal scored on a man advantage. Alas, Young with his third goal delivered the dagger after five minutes into the sudden death. For the three stars Young (3g/0a), Maellard (2g/1a) and Cat (0g/2a) were elected. The Iron Eagles' netminder Jute (.906) had the tiniest of margins over his opponent Freeze (.905) in Cologne's net. Vasteras' special teams displayed a shockingly poor efficiency with 0/4 for the power play and 2/5 for the penalty killing. The GM Arce is well advised to address this issue as soon as possible. Marcel left the ice with a 0g, 1a, +3 and 4sb record His stats for the post-season so far: 3gp, 0g, 2a, +4, 0 PIM, 4 hits and 9sb As demonstrated in this game, Marcel does well to stay out of the sin bin, in order to not provoke 'easy' goals against his team. We will revert tomorrow, when Daniel will get into the thick of it as well against the DC Dragons. https://vhlforum.com/topic/123675-a-tale-of-two-brothers-a-crease-oddity/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/123872-a-tale-of-two-brothers-past-the-third/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/124004-a-tale-of-two-brothers-approaching-the-half-way-mark/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/124101-a-tale-of-two-brothers-hot-in-the-city/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/125122-a-tale-of-two-brothers-a-dark-horse-on-the-rise/ GM 5: Vasteras Iron Eagles vs. Cologne Express (vhlportal.com)

You are very welcome. It is funny though that Ricer, Jacob and I are all in the same VHL team (Jacob and I as players, Ricer is our GM), the Calgary Wranglers.

Hey Oli, First of all Welcome to the VHL, I hope you will enjoy your time here. For the moment, you can earn some TPE (it is on a weekly basis by the way), which in turn can be spent to improve your player. Here is a guide how you can do this (please do not hesitate to ask, if something is unclear, I am here to help). https://vhlforum.com/topic/98611-tpe-point-tasks-tutorial/ Here is a guide for building players (only recommendation though, you build your player as you see fit, but it is good to know which attributes are important to your position) Gustav's Guide to Building - New Member Guide - Victory Hockey League (vhlforum.com) There will be a tournament, the Junior Showcase Tournament for undrafted players just as you, where you will be able to showcase your skills and attract the attention of the VHLM GM's (I am one of them, my team is the Mississauga Hounds). Also later on there will be the traditional ProAm Tournament where you can sign up for a little more off-season action. This is an event where players from all leagues participate (even retired players join at time) and where you can bond with other community members. Other than that, I can only recommend you, to peak in the forum and read some articles and look at some of the GFX people create for themselves or others. Hope the above is of help to get you started. Daniel

Graphic courtesy of Leandrofg (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats) It has been a while since we last reported from our Swiss Hitmen. In the interim both regular seasons have finalized and we are happy to be the bearer of good tidings in that both the Wranglers as well as the Iron Eagles went into the post season. The good news is even better in that Vasteras is leading its series against Cologne 2-0 and Calgary swept Toronto in the Wild Card games. As a summary to the Jansers regular season, lets start with Marcel. He scored seven goals (the fewest in his three seasons with the Swedes), 41 assists for 48 points. He halved his time in the sin bin compared to last season (59 PIM vs 116 PIM). The young defender is now Vasteras' all time leader for games played (216) and shots blocked (414) in the regular season (only the present incarnation of Vasteras considered). Surprisingly, he is also fourth in points and fifth for game winners (tied with future team mate Gonçalves), which is not bad for a defensive minded back. Here are his stats for the past regular season/(career totals for Vasteras): 72(216) gp, 7(29) g, 41(119) a, 48(148) pts, +17(-14), 59(212) PIM, 80(226) hits, 131(414) sb, 0(8) gwg, 5(18) ppg, 1(3) first stars As for Daniel, he set new personal records for goals scored (34), points (75), PIM (119), hits (237), hattricks (3) and game winners (10). The hatties (tied first) and the game winners (tied third) are amongst the best in the league. Further and in addition, the forward premiered in the S84 all-star games, where he dressed for NA playing alongside the likes of Kotkakoivu, Idaho, Atreides and Johansson to name but a few. He scored three goals and five assists. His team mate Saku scored ten goals and twelve apples, the highest scoring player of either team in this turkey shoot. However, the jury in their infinite wisdom gave the MVP to Duncan Idaho (8g/9a). Here are the full stats for Daniel for the S84 regular season: 72gp, 34g, 41a, 75pts, +26, 119 PIM, 237 hits, 23sb, 10gwg, 4ppg, FO% 58.69, 9 first stars Daniel missed better figures due to a streaky second half of the season, where there were weekends where he would not score at all, just to get a hattrick in the next one. This is atypical for the young Swiss as he was a solid PPG player throughout his stint with Calgary. Some of the inconsistency could be allocated to the influx of new players and finding the chemistry between the players as well as changing back and forth from the wing to the center, depending on the team's needs. The Wranglers as a team kind of showed the same picture, with a lack of consistency and rather underwhelming special team performance (15th in power play efficiency and 10th in killing off penalties). We will revert with updates during the playoffs as soon as possible and hope for a deep run for both teams, who enter the race as a dark horse. https://vhlforum.com/topic/123637-a-tale-of-two-brothers-one-fifth-done/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/123675-a-tale-of-two-brothers-a-crease-oddity/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/123872-a-tale-of-two-brothers-past-the-third/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/124004-a-tale-of-two-brothers-approaching-the-half-way-mark/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/124101-a-tale-of-two-brothers-hot-in-the-city/

The thing is if we look long and hard enough, EVERYTHING can be offensive to someone. I think Vancouver was 'Quebec Meute' before and was disbanded/relocated/rebranded because of the clear offensiveness of being a Quebec based franchise (just kidding, I know it is about the ultra right movement called 'Meute'). One could without much imagination make a case that Cologne Express (especially with the logo they have) is far more offensive than the Istanbul franchise.

Calgary Wranglers press conference
Daniel Janser replied to diamond_ace's topic in Team Press Conferences
1. We will make the post season, I have no doubt in my mind and from there I am confident we could even go the full nine yards. 2. Maybe Nico Pearce as he was in the same draft class as me and still beats me on the TPE every damn week (or so I feel) 3. Janser is being social at home, playing board games with the rookies in his home (or at least that is the official version) 4. I think it is pretty active with even Phil popping in when his time allows. 5. I was not aware of this. It looks like the league to accommodate recreates who want to fast-train into the VHL but what do I know? 6. I certainly do not wish to die tomorrow., but living forever seems dull as well. I plead the fifth on this one. -
Same with a win against the aces.

Calgary Wranglers press conference
Daniel Janser replied to diamond_ace's topic in Team Press Conferences
1. I stopped celebrating birthdays a long time ago. 2. Maybe I could come to terms with Calgary cowboys. 3. I think it is important to get new members in. After all the vets stuck around for so long they seem to like the experience. 4. I am sure he would be a competent hooked. (In rugby take your mind out of the gutter, geez.) 5. Play it at your own time, seek for advice and make your decisions based on same. 6. I think so far the ASG is the pinnacle of Janser's career. -

I Name the Best Player from 15 YEARS of Draft Classes
Daniel Janser replied to Gustav's topic in Archived Media Spots
Gee @Gustav even for your longwinded standard this is excessive. Kudos to the grind and determination to finish your Magnum Opus (please get a life, you make the rest of us look bad). -
So as a relatively new member I cannot share memories going further back than August last year. However, during my relatively short stint a few things have happened: I was here for the inaugural season of the JST and played for the Brigade together with my brother (very good way to catch all the users creating after the TDL and to give people a swing at GMing for the first time). We had a good time and already got a feeling what it will be like in the VHLM. The grind, (in the best sense of the word), the anticipation for the sims, the excitement/disappointment when you got the sims (depending on your/your teams performance. Another milestone during my time was, when the VHLE was given its maiden voyage. I personally think it is a great transition into the VHL from the VHLM. Let's be honest with 250 TPE you are nothing but a snack for the likes of the Vinny Detroits and Druss Deathwalkers out there who are in their prime and kick ass and take your lunch money. So my take is, that it is more meaningful and satisfying to compete with people around your caliber and make a contribution to your team's success rather than being a liability and only being one teeny-tiny step above a bot. And it gives you one more opportunity to get to know new users or share a locker room with long 'lost' friends again. 'Multi'-Tasking Around the Christmas season 2021/22 there was a sudden surge of users having multiple accounts (upto seven) and updating all of them (where did they find the time?). The most harmful to the community arguably being the notorious Kachur/Horcrux entity. I also was in the front seat when the Meta-curse was lifted. First I was lamenting how much worse my player will be (sorry @Beketov), but now I just accept that I have to grind harder to get one point more in defence at the end of the day. Further and in addition, the ProAm tournament was brought back from the dead. Another off-season event, but this one being open to literally everyone (even retirees on their rocking chairs) and one I am looking forward to. Now let's see what was fashionable when I was fifteen, shall we? Going down memory lane. Bill Clinton (yeah right BILL not Hillary) was elected as the POTUS. In the Summer Olympics in Barcelona, the first incarnation of the Dream Team around 'Magic' Johnson and 'Air' Jordan mops the floor with their opponents. In Europe there was still a gazillion currencies in circulation and not the artificially created Euro (which was more fun for all the people collecting different bills from different countries). South Africa votes to abandon Apartheid In L.A. people start rioting when four police officers who abused Rodney King were found innocent by the court. They riots last six days and have a toll of 53 lifes. Microsoft releases Windows 3.1. 'Basic Instinct' is the must-see movie for adolescent young adults. The SNES is finally available in Germany. 'Rage against the Machine' publish their first album. It is also the founding year of Blink-182, Hanson and the Wu-Tang-Clan. Denmark enters the Euro-Cup as a replacement team for Yugoslavia and wins the damn thing. Erik Gudbranson is born (@Rhynex Entertainment). So are Neymar, Miley Cyrus and Daisy Ridley. In exchange Benny Hill, Marlene Dietrich and Willy Brandt shed their mortal coil. To be claimed week ending 31.07.2022

Maellard Getting Minutes... Penalty Minutes in Cologne
Daniel Janser replied to frescoelmo's topic in VHL.com Articles
Why is this mutually exclusive? I think when you lose a game, you should have the satisfaction that the opposition had to pay the iron price for their win.
