  1. 2. As per tradition, what is your one bold prediction for the season?

Davos into the playoffs over Riga.

    3. Do you expect our team to fight for a playoff position this season?

Yes, I think we will be better than we think.

    4. Are you participating in VHFL and/or Super Coach?

No I missed the deadline but now begins a long streak of not missing them.

    6. Do you believe defense wins championships?

Absolutely I believe it is more important than offense.

    7. Which shot is more difficult for a goaltender to stop: a wrist shot or a slapshot?

Wrist shots are quicker and not as easy to predict when the shot will fly compared to slapshots which are very telegraphed.

    8. Of the remaining teams in the NHL playoffs, who do you believe will win the Stanley Cup?

I fully believe Dallas will win the Cup but I am absolutely rooting for Edmonton. p.s. the kings deserved what they got

With only one season left to go in Sadie St-Louis' career, I figured I'd look back at the teams she's done well against, and the teams that have had her number. Unsurprisingly, Riga, Calgary, and Seattle comprise 3 of the bottom 4 teams (St-Louis has played for these 3), but Helsinki and Malmö are surprisingly low considering that St-Louis played in the EU for 4 years compared to just 3 in North America. Absolutely running away with it are the D.C. Dragons, who must be terrified of St-Louis at this point, having given up 63 of her 506 points, a number good for 12.4% (1/8) of her total VHL points! Other notable teams include London and Davos, both in the top 5 oddly enough because I always felt like every game was a shutout for goaltending giants Lachlan Summers and Jesse Teno. This year, Sadie St-Louis will wear Davos purple, so she ends her career with a respectable 33 points against them.

  3. It's time for Sadie St-Louis' final season, finally donning the purple of HC Davos Dynamo as she hopes to have one more shot at the playoffs before retirement. The journey to Davos has seen her move through 6 other cities, marking very different chapters of her life. Breaking through to the VHLM in S84 with notable names like Lachlan Summers @kirbithan and Vincent Laroche-Gagnier @vincentlg2007, San Diego helped St-Louis make some early connections that would last a career. This wave of talent was too late to salvage what had been a disastrous season in San Diego, despite the admirable efforts of GM @jacobcarson877. Despite missing the playoffs, St-Louis says she has great memories of the teammates, management and locker room there. The VHLM Dispersal Draft in the offseason saw her picked 4th by the Ottawa Lynx, where she enjoyed a very successful regular season but in the end suffered an agonizing first round series lost against Mexico City after previously being up 3-0.

The offseason after S85 was a busy one; Sadie received interest from several teams before the long-awaited VHL Entry Draft. Riga, Helsinki, Seattle, Moscow, and Davos expressed interest. She ended up being selected at 4th overall, definitely before she thought she would be, by Riga and GM @hedgehog337, who had already selected The Frenchman @OrbitingDeath , consensus #1 and future superstar. But before -making the jump to top-league play, it was determined she'd spend a year in Europe developing, and said as much in the pre-draft interviews. Stockholm Vikings GM @MubbleFubbles reunited St-Louis with longtime friends Lachlan Summers and @John Cimarno, and there was a really optimistic feeling around the team heading into the season. But even with amazing performances by Lachlan Summers (.922 SV%) as well as really strong offensive seasons from Larry Abass Jr @RileyL and Sadie St-Louis herself (100 and 95 points respectively), the team couldn't muster enough wins to climb into the playoffs. A lack of offensive contribution greatly contributed here, as the dropoff from 2nd to 3rd place on the team was a whopping 31 points. Finally, St-Louis was ready to jump into the VHL.

    1.32 Points/Game

Riga welcomed Sadie with open arms and she is very glad they decided to select her in the draft; it was a good group of people and a very dangerous looking team. A commanding sophomore performance from The Frenchman, netting him 77 points in 72 games, was one of the most important factors along with 82 points from leader Daniel Weaver @ThePerfectNut and a very impressive 42 from the young defenseman Skor McFleury @Alex fresh out of the VHLM. Sadie was able to accrue 59 points, the most among all S87 rookies, and she was nominated for the Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy awarded to the top rookie each year. However, Matt Murdock @Acydburn had an absolutely stellar season and unanimously (and deservedly) won. This, barring a last-gasp miracle, is the closest St-Louis will ever have come to an individual honor. In the playoffs, Riga suffered a heartbreaking game 7 loss, and everyone came out of the season feeling like they could have done more. But this trend would, disappointingly, continue. S88 saw a surprising decrease in points from 59 to 55, the dreaded sophomore slump. Riga were swept in the first round and yet again a season was wasted. In S89 and S90, Sadie rose above both the 30-goal and 40-goal plateaus for the first time, with 34 in S89 and a current career high 41 in S90. Her point totals were well above a point per game but it seemed like it was never enough. Skor McFleury had already departed for Davos, but the chances still seemed excellent for Riga to accomplish something. Brian Kowalski @Wheaties recorded two incredible seasons at 108 and 80 points respectively in S89 and S90, all in vain. The Frenchman had 100 but left after S89. Riga had suffered two more losses in the Conference Semifinals, leaving St-Louis with an 0-4 record in the department of rounds won. Riga's window was now, for all intents and purposes, closed and an era of St-Louis' career ended as she was shipped off to Calgary going into S91.

    S87 Stolzschweiger Nominee

In Calgary, St-Louis experienced one of the greatest locker rooms in the VHL and some of the most helpful and caring management in GMs @Ricer13 and @leandrofg, but her play suffered tremendously in that first year, tallying only 48 points, a career-low, but one she bounced back from. S92 saw a return to more normal form, hitting 30 goals for the third time in her career with 34, and 68 points total. But Sadie's playoff woes continued- in both years, the Wranglers made the playoffs but failed to reach the Conference Finals. Now having tried and failed 6 times for any playoff success (7 if you count the VHLM), she was sent to the Seattle Bears knowing she only had 2 chances left. Seattle wasn't regarded as a likely cup contender, rather as one of the lower-tier playoff teams, but GM @Banackock helped his team defy the odds on the way to a first place finish in the North American Conference. Seattle lost out on the Victory Cup by just 3 points to Malmö though. Severus Targaryen turned in a fantastic season with 106 points, Henry Eagles @Greg_Di followed close behind with 101, and coming in via a trade midway through the season with a .933 save percentage and terrifying 21-2-3 record was Fuukka Rask @Jubis. Seattle made it past the first round in 6 games against the New York Americans, and took down the vaunted D.C. Dragons team in 6 as well, setting up a finals matchup between the Bears and the London United led by goalie Jesse Teno @aimkin in the form of his life. The Bears were generating tons of offense but Teno was in superhuman form, eventually setting up a dramatic game 7 in which Seattle won 4-2. St-Louis finally has her cup and in the offseason, was traded to Davos for a 3rd.

    S93 Continental Cup Champion

Looking back on goals for her career:

    1. Win the Continental Cup

It might have taken a while, but that Seattle team got there. Cut it a little close!

    2. Play in the VHL with Lachlan Summers @kirbithan

I think St-Louis got to Davos just a little too late for that- next player we'll make sure we do.

    3. Score 100 points in a season

87 is as close as we were able to come. If my earning hadn't gone off a cliff due to school once I got to Calgary, there's no telling if I would have had a different career best.

Overall, this career has been pretty good. There were pretty big ups and pretty big down but St-Louis got the cup she deserved so I'd consider it a success. Maybe Davos can sneak into the playoffs this year and surprise everyone- anything could happen.

  4. 1. What are you most looking forward to in S94?

I think I have to say recreation because it's just so exciting but I am genuinely excited for Sadie St-Louis' last year as well.

    2. Nearly a week out from the draft, what are your thoughts on the players we selected?

I feel really good about who we got; Frank Hardy dropping down to us was awesome.

    3. Adding onto this, how do you feel about the Davos roster and prospects going forward into this season?

I feel really good because even though we only have one really high TPA player in Ironhide, that prospect pool is ENORMOUS and there are a lot of fun presences on the team.

    5. What are your goals for your player this season?

Just hoping to have a decent season goals-wise since I will be one of the forwards with more ice time I think.

    7. Where was the last place you traveled to?

    Connecticut to see family

    8. If you could eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Ice cream 100% if I didn't die from the negative health problems.

  5. 1. Going into the offseason, what do you believe Davos needs to become competitive once more?

Some luck from Simon; also signing a certain Australian goalie would probably help :)

    2. How would you reflect on your player’s season individually? Is there anything you would’ve wanted to improve on or see from them?

I was happy with it, I contributed at just under a point per game which could easily have been more depending on who I played with. Ended in a cup win so it was really as good as it gets.

    5. In a Game 7 shootout situation, which active VHL starting goalie would you want in net for you?

    Lachlan Summers hands down

    6. How did you find out about the existence of the VHL?

Through a YouTube video about hockey- really glad I bit on that ad.

    7. Thoughts on this year’s NHL draft lottery?

good job San Jose I am very happy for you (at least Montreal didn't move down)

    8. Have you ever met a professional athlete before? If so, who was it?

I've met Torrey Mitchell, legendary habs 4th liner. I have also met the Red Sox legend Carl Yastrzemski.

  6. 46. John Jameson of Prague is on an absolute tear. How does Seattle prepare for a player like that?

All we can really do is put our best shutdown forwards out with him and otherwise do what we normally do.

    48. @sadie recently got goal #200 of their career. What song did the team play for them in the LR to pump em up?

    lowkey elevation by U2

    49. @zepheter 100 CAREER ASSISTS. The team did an apple themed party. What did YOU bring to the party?

I brought caramel apples of course!

    50. @Berocka is one point away from tying their career high. What's it like having an aussie on the team??

They always walk into the room on the ceiling upside down and they are too big a fan of rugby and Lachlan Summers. Other than that it's pretty okay.

    52. Commissioner for a day!! What are some things you'd do?

Change NYA's logo and move a team to Montreal.

    53. @hedgehog337 a legend steps away from managing Riga. One of the best of all time. Some of their records will only be touched by very few. What were your thoughts when finding out this news?

I was surprised and a little sad because he was my GM with Riga for the first seasons of my career and was of course the first one to ever draft me into the VHL.

  7. Today, I'll be proposing a new set of teams for the VHL, designing 8 new teams in terms of team location, colors, and branding to replace those of the current NA conference. I'm going to bar all current VHL, VHLE, and VHLM locations to make myself think a little, and it'll be more interesting than another team in NYC, Toronto, Vancouver, etc. This could either be based upon cities I like and want to see a team in purely out of bias, or it could be a complete joke, or it could be an actually okay idea- we'll see!

    1. Montréal Royal
My NHL team is the Habs, so of course the first place I thought of was Montréal. HOW IS THERE NOT ALREADY A TEAM HERE? I think perhaps there was one a long time ago, but it's honestly inexcusable to have representation in such a city, in a province like Quebec with the amount of history that it has. At least give a team to Quebec if not Montréal. Anyway, I chose the name Royal after the mountain (well more of a hill to be honest) that looms a whole 233m above Montréal. The mountain the city is named for would be a great title for this team, and the name Royal rather than Royals makes it sound more French, something les montréalais would hopefully approve of. I can't deviate from the blue, white, an red that the Habs, the Alouettes, and the Expos already possess(ed), so I'll go with a blue-white-red color scheme as well.

    2. Minnesota Aurora
For Minnesota, I'll steal a name from their women's soccer team, because the Aurora is beautiful. I was struggling to think of an original and good Minnesota name, but Minnesota having been the North Stars previously did help me decide on Aurora. This is a city that definitely deserves a hockey team... I mean LOOK AT THE STATE. Hockey is extremely commonplace, something you can't say for everywhere in the US, and it's their state sport. The branding could be unreal for a team based on the northern lights; a black jersey base and green, blue, and purple used as accents could be beautiful. I'm imagining the alternates or special occasion jerseys could be very beautiful and incorporate gradients in a really creative way.

    3. Boston Blizzard
Time to continue this streak of names that don't end in s! The Blizzard is not only an appropriate winter name for hockey, but also alliterates with the city of Boston and would make for a pretty okay chant in "Let's go Blizzard". Given that when a major weather event actually does happen here, it's decently likely to be a snowstorm, the name fits well. Boston deserves a team again because of its history with the Bruins, and it being such an important American city in their history as well. I think good branding colors would be a darker green main color (given the city's fixation on it's NBA team, the Celtics, as well as the Irish heritage everyone there apparently has). Using black and white as accent colors would be ideal since I think anything else would likely clash with the green. I'm also starting to realize how similar to the PWHL Boston team this is becoming. These first three NA teams are also all new PWHL locations but ignore that I'm definitely not copying.

    4. Cancún Dolphins
It would be crazy to plan out a full league of teams without at least taking into account Cancún, unquestionably the hockey Mecca of the world. Almost everyone grows up playing hockey and it has spread to places like Canada and the US throughout the years. It's exciting to see how the game has grown out of Mexico. A Cancun team could fittingly be called the Dolphins, providing a great opportunity for a creative logo and branding. I see a color scheme being a sea-blue base with golden and white accents, symbolizing the water, sand, and the foam where they meet. This would open up great unique jersey concepts about the ocean.

    5. Colorado Mountaineers
Given that Davos is ceasing to exist in this universe, we have to honor them with a new purple mountain team. Denver is a great place to expand to given its high elevation and location in a state known for its winter sports. It is a great place to support a sports team given the fanbase of the Avs, Nuggets, and Rockies (and then there’s the Rapids). Mountaineers is a self explanatory name, and the color scheme is going to be purple (because a purple team is needed), white (symbolizing snow) and orange (symbolizing a cool accent color and also maybe the sunrise if you want to get technical).

    6. Edmonton Glacier
I don’t think I could have felt good about this list putting only one Canadian team on it, so in comes Edmonton. With Ottawa, Toronto, Saskatoon, Mississauga, and Vancouver not being options, it was really only Winnipeg, Quebec City, or one of the Alberta cities left. The Oilers being my second favorite NHL team helps with that decision. The colors will be light blue, white, and black, some pretty evident glacier colors. I chose the name glacier to pay homage to the beautiful glaciers of Banff and to keep the theme of these names on nature because I like nature. I feel some of the only other options would have been oil-related and we already have the Oilers and the Oil Kings.

    7. Honolulu Humpbacks
Just for fun, let’s throw another tropical team in here with beautiful Honolulu. We have to put aside the logistics of building an arena there, the hours and hours of plane travel from there to literally anywhere else, and also the fact that fans can’t travel easily. But if you overlook those, Honolulu is an awesome city on a stunning island and that’s really all you need. Humpbacks was chosen as a name due to its humpback whale population which has its breeding grounds around the Hawaiian archipelago. For team colors, I have chosen dark blue, white, and grey to fit a general whale/ocean color theme.

    8. Raleigh Red Wolves
Rather than calling the team here Carolina as seems to be customary, I decided to go with the city name Raleigh (the alliteration is just so good as well); the name Red Wolves is fitting due to the fact that North Carolina is the only remaining place this endangered species can be found in the wild. I know Istanbul already has this name, but it's the VHLE, so they might not be around much longer anyway. As for why I choose Raleigh as a VHL City, they have already shown their love for hockey to their other team, the Carolina Hurricanes of the second-tier NHL league. After relocation from Hartford, Carolina showed they have an amazing atmosphere and fan base and absolutely deserves a team. Their jerseys would be red, purple, and black (red for the obvious red, wolves, purple because it is the best color, and black because it rounds it out nicely).

    Spoiler

    word count: 1183

  8. 35. The league wants to beat all countries to the moon. We build a rocket. What does the VHL name it?

Most likely we name it after the VHLE and then send it to the moon too where we will never hear from it again.

    36. The Seattle Bears have created a new cryptocurrency for the VHL. It hits the market. What is it's name?

Basic as it might be, bearcoin because you're not getting a better name than that.

    37. Russian hackers attack the VHL and hold us ransom. They have demands. What do they want from the VHL?

They want 4 TPE a week as job pay because hacking is hard work.

    38. What is something the league doesn't do, or could add, that you'd like to see in the future?

I'd like to see something resembling an all-star game, or a couple of games with picked teams at somepoint in the season.

    39. What are your thoughts on the current state of things in the VHL right now?

I'm hoping we'll see another wave of new players soon; big recruitment drives are fun. I think the VHL is in a good place right now though and I think there is a pretty good atmosphere about it.

    40. How has the Seattle locker room been for you so far? Any thing we can improve on? :)

It is a great locker room!

  9. 12. What are your thoughts on Seattle trading for McFleury and St. Louis from Calgary?

I think it's a very good move considering the need to get out of cap trouble from Calgary and I think its great that both of us managed to end up here.

    15. What are you up to this week?

This week I am going to be skiing, studying, and watching hockey + soccer.

    16. What are your expectations for your player in the upcoming season?

I'm not expecting a lot from St-Louis, but I'm hoping she can get somewhat close to a point per game on this new team.

    17. What are your expectations for Seattle this season?

I am not expecting to win the conference or anything, but I think we should make the playoffs and once that happens, anything can.

    18. What do you think of Seattle landing BIG FA, Eagles @Greg_Di?????

I think this is a great move- landing a player who immediately has the most TPA on the team is of course awesome! It's nice to have 3 complete sets of wingers.

    20. What was one thing the GM said when he congratulated your player being drafted?

That he was excited to have me along and hoped I would stay a long time with Riga (which I did).

  10. For me this is 10/10 regardless if I look at it biasedly or unbiasedly. The font choice is great, and the attention to detail throughout the graphic (doing the logo swap even though only like 2% of the logo is visible, changing the opacity of parts of the text for effect, etc.) Blurring the city in the background makes the render pop more and good job filling the space on the left with a smaller St-Louis that doesn’t draw too much attention. Amazing work.
