New York, New York.
The New York Americans are taking their second steps in the rebuild. Their first off-season proved rather successful as they sold the farm and acquired 5 first round draft picks. As the S55 VHL Entry Draft concludes, the New York Americans sat with two top end prospects in Sergei Komarov ( @Gooningitup) and Igor Mjers ( @iRockstar) who have the potential to be top line players in the next two years. With two first round picks in the S57 VHL Entry Draft, the Americans are not skipping any steps. Their GM and head of the STZ Player Agency, Vince Wong, has doubled the scouting staff from 20 to 40 people. The STZ Player Agency has produced a number of HOF VHL Players, and also bring in goalie Ike Arkander into the NYA rebuild.
This increase in personnel is in direct correlation to the 10th Anniversary Recruitment Drive, that has created a very interesting crop of players. While the past few drafts have been rather weak near the end of the 1st round and start of the 2nd, the S57 Draft could actually bolster two full rounds of high end players.
"You can have 3 1sts every year, but it doesn't mean anything unless you hit on those picks. We like our goalie, and we like our forward and defenseman we took with our first picks last year. We need to add more, though. We are looking at getting creative and nab up one of the "Big Fish" this year. There are players all over this draft that are going to be impact players. Look at forward and you have guys like Keller and Gow, back on defense you have Louth, Johnsson and the Big D, Boner.. Then in net there's two goalies that should be VHL starters, and probably elite starters at that. That's to name a few, there are others that will develop and stand out over the course of the season."
The Americans have a projected top pick, as well as the S57 Riga 1st, and a top 2nd round pick. They should be in a good spot to select 3 bonafide high end prospects.
