  1. Elhandon takes The Charm I take Evan R. Lawson @Enorama
  2. That was quick!
  3. Really though you should have taken your forward while asking for D since it's your pick twice. Normally if it's 12 hours without a pick, we're supposed to advance - our group is nearly done though, so I guess it's not really an issue. I say we reset the 12 hours to when I gave you the two options for D, give you a little more time to go since you couldn't find anyone
  4. Luc Pierre Lespineau-Lebrunette or Boner. LPLL is a little better, but Boner's team should be worse which ought to generate shot blocks. No one else needs a D so have your choice.
  5. Yeah now that all the new crew is here, it might work, not saying it wouldn't (you know I'm a big a proponent of the mag as anyone) I was just informing you that it had been attempted unsuccessfully within the last several seasons.
  6. Fairly recently, it was tried and it lasted about a month. Granted, Robbie was the editor, so take that as you will, but honestly as one of the writers, the problem was usually not him as much as it was people not getting things to him on time
  7. In my ideal world, we'd use the version of the sim that has TA and GA. I know such a version exists because we tried it out briefly one preseason and then decided we didn't like the scoring rate or something, but I preferred that even when others didn't
  8. Don't tell me what I should be saying. I know the sim sucks at recognizing defense, but I'd rather give defensive credit based on imperfect information than give no defensive credit at all.
  9. Torn on this. There are parts of it I agree with. If you noticed, the award voting did have a vote for Ron as offensive D this year - guess who the vote was (I was also the outlier for defensive D, having gone Ironside as a member of the 200/200 club for the season). Additionally, I remember the argument against naming the award after Encarnacion was plus-minus, and I've always hated using plus-minus for anything so would have been on board naming it for Encarnacion (in fact I even tried kind of mildly nudging it in Encarnacion's direction during the discussion but it seemed from the initial post with options that he'd basically been ruled out from the get go - another one that was discussed was Yumalatopinto, but they wanted to take the prominence of the member into consideration). However, I absolutely think the award should exist, because the Labatte was always way too offensively-skewed for my tastes.
  10. Rather than killing Chat, update him for the rest of the season THEN kill him and do another guy in the offseason
  11. Hashtag United, Thurlow Nunn First Division (10th tier, semi pro)
  12. Chelsea for the last few windows have been nowhere near unlimited, saving money to use on the new stadium
  13. D Ko Kane for me. F Veran Dragomir for Elhandon (just a note to him, for when he comes back: yes you had Federov higher but he's also retired) @Laflamme
  14. Hakstol Gow incoming.
  15. You can be pretty sure about whatever you want, but that's not the tale told by the scoreboard.
  16. 01110011 crying 0s and I'm hearing 111 cut my somersault sign my backflip (song lyrics that start off with a bit of binary)
  17. Also, once I'm done with Coach, I'll be able to take a whole month off of articles - I have a week left on my Ottawa post-draft article, then the donation free, then the Chris free, then the Coach free. I probably won't do it a whole month consecutively like that - the Ottawa article has to be next week and the donation has to be sometime this season, but the two HOF frees can basically just sit there for a time when I'm busier with life.
  18. https://vhlforum.com/topic/52082-s48-builder-chris-miller/ There's Chris done! So yeah I'll go ahead and take Coach, and you guys can expect that one Monday night (technically Tuesday morning, it'll almost certainly be after midnight, but during my Monday work shift).
  19. Chris Miller, aka Advantage, or now ADV, has historically been one of the best members this league has seen. To an extent, this goes without saying, as he’s been inducted into the HOF as a builder, and that’s not a title given lightly. However, just as you have first ballot players and players who get in on down years, not all HOF builders are created equal either. While he was not “first ballot” so to speak, as builders don’t really have proper windows of eligibility, it doesn’t seem likely that his induction was ever in doubt. I go way back with Chris, having known him first from a short-lived football sim league, but of course the majority of the time was spent here, where we’ve both been members for a large portion of the league’s existence and about 7-8 real life years. It’s a privilege to be able to write of his accomplishments here, as he’s had many. The biggest thing that jumps off the page about Chris is his time as a VHL GM. One of the most successful in the history of the league, he’s GMed three teams for a total of 22 seasons. The biggest run he’s had was with New York, where he spent 15 seasons in charge, S33 through S47. 10 of these seasons resulted in the playoffs, and he took home the cup in S39 and S41. He also led both the casualties of the S58 contraction at prior points in their history, Stockholm for 6 seasons (S50-S55) and Cologne for just a single season, S57, the last before the franchise disbanded. Over that time, he won the top GM award 5 times, including of course both the cup years with New York. He had that team on a dynasty of sorts, 5 consecutive playoff berths with 2 cups and 3 top GM awards during that span, from S38 to S42. Of course, as I was Calgary GM for much of his time in New York, we competed against each other, and he largely came out on top, especially toward the later years of our mutual time. His time with Stockholm I mostly missed, but 3 playoff berths and 2 top GM awards in 6 seasons speaks for itself. He was also prevalent in the league in other roles, including VHLM GM with the now-defunct Kolari Panthers (he seems to be something of a franchise kiss of death, across Kolari, Stockholm, and Cologne), and VHLM Commissioner, the two key roles in our minor league system. He was also a mag writer, long serving member of the Board of Governors where he and I had our fair share of both agreements and disagreements, and Head of Recruitment, where his time spent in all those football sim leagues repaid this league greatly, as several members have made their way here from there over the years. Player-wise, he’s already in the HOF twice, with Ryan Sullivan and Brick Wahl. Wahl was the goalie behind the New York dynasty Chris himself led, with fellow HOF players Conner Low, Xin Xie Xiao, Tom Slaughter, and Odin Tordahl. Two cups, two playoff MVPs, and just short of 300 wins over his career put Wahl into the HOF. Sullivan was one of the true all around defensemen, starting off his career in Calgary, then leaving to go to New York to take over as GM prior to S33. He also finished his career in Helsinki for his final season, S35. He took home a cup with Calgary and two top defenseman awards with New York, and easily made the HOF as well. These two players, combined with his work as a builder, means that Chris is a three time HOFer. As far as non-official roles are concerned, Chris was a founding member of the Pajodcast, a podcast series which initially had several recurring members (Noah, Boom, Muffins, and myself) and occasional guest members, as well as the three founding members, Chris, Devise, and Jericho. Since then, the founding members have added one more and turned the Pajodcast into a YouTube channel, Pajodcast Media, where they mostly play video games and critique them as they go, while also chatting among themselves on unrelated topics. Despite the fact that Pajodcast Media has since become a largely separate entity, it’s important to note that it got its start on this league. This article has been a long time coming. Chris has been such a vital member of the league for so long, and has been in the HOF as a builder for some time now. There have been opportunities for this to have been written, but it’s poetic in a way that the honor falls to me to write it. It is with great pleasure that I officially induct Chris Miller as the much-deserved builder from the S48 HOF class!
  20. Good D on a bad team - you couldn't write a better shot block formula if you tried. VHFL teams will be all over him
  21. The point, for me anyway, isn't so much to win the fight as it is to get mutual 5 minute majors and take him off the ice for a big chunk of time
  22. Also, no matter who you sign with, feel free to ask me stuff about the league
  23. As it stands right now, I have 9 active forwards. That may change, I have one guy who seems like he might be going inactive and trades are always a possibility, but as it stands, any new forward I would sign would get stuck on the 4th line. If you still want to come to Ottawa despite that, PM me, but for your sake I'm going to bow out for now and let the teams who can offer you more get in on bidding.
  24. Considering in a few seasons I should be one of the scorers, I can put in the protection duties now in hopes that the favor will be returned by a new guy then
