We had to sort of rush it, as it was @Knight's birthday today and so I was pressed for time, but there's still some beastly discussions as we announce who the Hamiltons are signing with!!!!!!! 23. Winds of Change I can feel the breeze and I’m sure I’m not the only one. Already this off-season we’ve seen a couple of big trades, with @tfong Kyanon heading over to America to find a home with the Seattle Bears, and more surprising @brovy Lincoln going over to the Americans, which basically sees Cologne as its anagram COL gone. Meanwhile, Davos, Stockholm, and Helsinki are pretty much barren, so as it stands the only decent team in Europe is Riga, and their future is uncertain as well, what with their core and star-power going to Free Agency. These players include @JardyB10 S. Clegane, @sterling J. Hamilton, @TheLastOlympian07 Muller, and @KingRobbie Covington III. Depending on who stays and who leaves, we could end up having an entire Conference of terrible teams. So that leaves us with North America. Calgary have officially re-signed @Draper Koponen and even with @STZ Unassisted potentially leaving in Free Agency, the Wranglers will still be a sure-fire favourite for the Cup. The Legion have the exact same team right now, but with @Victor Greg Clegane going to Free Agency, it’s sign or die for the Legion. If they decide to rebuild then there will be a ton of talent on the trading block, which could shake up my entire paragraph about Europe. Other than that, the Bears will be looking to make a huge push on the favourites board, as their young team enters its prime, but even with the acquisition of All-Star defenseman Kyanon, will that be enough to usurp the power of Calgary?
  24. Hardest Working 19-Year Old *A Note to the Editor: I wrote this at work last night while I had no way to know what was going on in the draft. So yeah* When you consider the fact that Shankly is just 19, and New York Americans General Manager Ryan @Mr. Power has already confirmed that he is taking Shankly with the first overall pick, one would expect a bit of complacency from the young star. However, it seems that all it has done is re-doubled his efforts to improved. In fact, we couldn’t even get him here for an interview, so we had to stalk him to his gym, where he’s spending more and more of his time. “Yea that guy comes in every day,” says a personal trainer who worked at the facility. “The stuff he does are insane… or rather, the combination of stuff that he does is insane. He combines heavy lifting with plyometrics and cardio with Functionality Training. It’s actually quite original. I may steal that.” Yea, we witnessed an entire gym session from afar, as to not interrupt the youngster, and we must admit, we’ve rarely seen anyone with such intensity at the gym. He would do 8-10 squats with heavy weight, before racking it and then doing rapid platform step-ups for over a minute, and then go right back into the squats, and that was only the beginning. He’d then to deadlifts, again in the 8-10 rep range and instead of resting between sets like a normal human being, he would do lateral bounds. After 5 sets of those, he moved onto the leg press machine, absurdly doing it with one leg before alternating. And again, instead of resting, he did crossovers and step-overs. At this point he was pouring with sweating, but we agree that he was too focused to notice something so trivial. He then did a superset of leg extensions and lying hamstring curls. For those who aren’t familiar, a superset means that you do both exercises back-to-back before resting, although as you can probably guess, Shankly did not rest. Instead, this time he decided to go for dumbbell bench step-ups. Anyway you get the picture. After the superset he did 3 more exercises before doing a half hour ab circuit. His total workout time was two and a half hours. We asked the trainer we had spoken to earlier if this was typical: “Oh yea, and sometimes it’s not even uncommon for him to come in twice on the same day. He shows up here about 4 times a week, but I tell you, those workouts he does would be enough to trigger EPOC for well over 48 hours I would imagine.” *Without getting all human physiological on you, EPOC stands for Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption. Basically, after an intense enough workout, this EPOC phenomenon will keep in and increase your metabolism for up to 48 hours later. * The long and the short of it is, that we’ve never seen a VHL draftee so committed to his training and improving his strength and power. This will work very well for the New York Americans, as they have a created a culture of dedicated training. We are definitely looking at a modern-day athletic warrior here.
