Actually @Phil, Leandro's name is spelled 'Gonçalves'... the 'c' pronounced similarly to an 's' (but I am sure @leandrofg will disagree and can tell better)...

Phil reacted to Daniel Janser in C.G.Y. Janser Scouting report
    Name: Callum Gary Yannick Janser
    Age: 26
    Birthday: 18th March
    Hometown: Zug, Switzerland
    Shoots: Left
    Preferred Number: 7
    Height: 6'4'' (193cm)
    Weight: 220lbs (100kg)
    Position: Defense

Callum is a stay at home defender, with a pass-first mentality. He has a big frame, which is well fleshed out. He has a long reach and exceptional upper body strength. As his father before him, he is ambi-dextrous and can fish pucks from the 'off-side'. He is very solid in defence and not prone to lose his cool in hot situations, where the opposition puts up pressure on him. Atypical for European players, he loves the physical part of the game, if the need arises. There is no tall or small opponents, just opportunities to check. He has a high hockey sense and knows how to read a game and the team penned up against him. A natural leader, who does not talk the talk, but walks the walk. Like his uncle and his dad his work ethic does not leave much to be desired. Callum has proven time and again that he can rise to the occasion, be it at the highland games, in the army or while acquiring his engineering degree. He is physically and mentally resilient and not inclined to injury. The Calgary native is also quick to learn and adapts to new playing systems in a jiffy.

On the flip side, his skating is rusty at best and needs some brushing up. He has no previous experience in competitive hockey games. His offensive capabilities are limited, as his shots are not accurate enough to create a lot of goals. Considering his physical abilities, the speed of his shots is nothing short of pathetic, too. CGY is relatively old for a rookie in a young man's sport and there is some risk connected to his acquisition that he will not progress fast enough to reach his peak before retirement looms on the horizon.

As a summary, any team acquiring Janser will get a solid stay-at-home defender. He is teachable and may make significant progress on the areas he is still lacking. If he was a thouroughbred, one could say that his pedigree is immaculate and promises for a good career. He may well be a hybrid of his dad's talent and Marcel's defensive prowess. But he could also turn out to be a bad shot blocker with limited talent. It is a high-risk/high-reward scenario.

Phil got a reaction from jacobcarson877 in Strasmore Show a Slow & Sluggish Start to the Season
I'm actually at this point going to say whether the title is true or not. I often write the titles of my articles as a starting point and go from there. I will say that just based on looking at the Calgary box scores since the start of the season, it has felt like Strasmore is not having his best season. It definitely seems sluggish, so now let's five in and see what the stats are saying:

We are 14 games into the season, or in terms of percentage, about 20% through the season. Strasmore has scored twice, earned 14 assists, is a pathetic minus 1 +/- rating, and has 44 hits with just 22 blocked shots. If we extrapolate these stats to the end of the season, Strasmore is on track for: 10 goals, 72 assists, -5, 226 hits and 113 blocked shots.

So offensively, he is actually on track to have his best season. His career high in goals to date is 7 and assists is 56. However, defensively, his hits, which were a very respectable 321, would dip back down to the season prior to that, and in terms of blocked shots - well that would be a career low.

So I guess you need to take the bad with the good, but the Wylde Winner from last season will disappoint many if these stats continue.

Somehow Strasmore was not only nominated for an award for his last season's performance, but he won it with the BOG voting 11-0 in his favour!

The Jake Wylde Trophy is a relatively new award and is awarded to the league's top Defensive Defenseman. The award was created in Season 59. It is named after Jake Wylde, a Hall of Famer who excelled at both ends of the ice, with 2,001 hits and 915 shots blocked along with 560 points in an eight-season career spanning S38 to S45.

This is the first time since he good friend, teammate, and powerplay linemate @Rhynex Entertainment won it in Season 83.

Johnson had career stats in points hits and blocked shots and even though he was happy with his defensive play - he never ever even expected to be considered for the honour. He had a statline of 7G 56A 63P +2 321H 173SB. Very decent defnesively and has mentioned several times he wants to maintain those numbers at the very least.

Directly comparing himself in hits and shots blocked to Wylde, Strasmore has finished 4 seasons - half of what Wylde's career length was and has amassed 894 hits and 560 blocked shots. Extrapolate that rate and he's looking at 1788 hits and 1120 shots blocked - pretty comparable - IF he can keep up the pace!

Captain: Daniel Janser @Daniel Janser will finish out the final season of his career as the Calgary Wrangler’s Captain. He has been Captain for four seasons and apart of the Captaincy group for 6 seasons. He has led this team through battle for his entire career and has led this team to a Continental Cup. It’s only fitting he leads this team in his final season.
    .

Assistant Captain: Landon Wolanin @jacobcarson877 has been chosen by his teammates to be an Assistant Captain for the fourth straight season. He’s been a steady part of this leadership group and team for the duration of his career and has clearly left an everlasting impact on his teammates.

Assistant Captain: Leandro Goncalves @leandrofg has also been chosen by his teammates to serve as an Assistant Captain. This will be his second time as an assistant for Calgary but has always been a quiet leader for this team. He has always sacrificed his own personal gain for the teams success which makes him an perfect addition to this group.

Congrats to our Captains!! Let’s have another fun season in season 89.

    S88 Calgary Wranglers season awards

Another season is now in the books. After a phenomenal run to the cup, the Wranglers had a season full of ups and down ultimately falling in the semi finals to the Seattle Bears ( 🤮). Overall, I wouldn't consider this season a bad one. Calgary had some problems, mostly at the start, but the team fought through them and bounced back. The roster didn't change a lot from S87 to S88 with the only change being Marcel Janser. Maybe a single change, but still a meaningful one. For the upcoming s89, we already know that the team will change a lot after losing the likes of @Doomsday, @RileyLand @Eso. For the 2nd season in a row, I will be writing the media spot to get those sweet TPE, but all the winners were chosen by the legendary gm of the Wranglers @Ricer13. Without further ado let's get started !

     Most Valuable Wrangler
    Oskar Lindbergh
Ending not only his Wrangler tenure but also his career as a whole, @Doomsdayisn't leaving without a legacy behind. He has a 100% MVP rate as a Wranglers that's impressive! It's not the only impressive thing about Lindbergh's career, but for now, let's focus on S88. In the regular season, the netminder had a very honorable .924% and a 2.75 GAA with only 1 shutout. The playoff is where Lindbergh outplayed all the levels he's ever reached. In 11 games he had, listen carefully, a .941 save % !!!!!!! The rest of his statline include a 2.01 GAA and 2 shutouts. Safe to say Lindbergh wasn't close to being washed when the time to unlace his pads came.  In his 2 season here Oskar really made his presence felt in the LR and losing him will be tough for us.

     The Sheriff's Badge
    Vincent Laroche-Gagnier

Hey! I know that guy. The sheriff's badge is given to the player who has shown the most leadership. In a locker room full of leaders the one who ultimately receives the badge is @vincentlg2007. It's always funny to give ourselves an award lmao  but once again I repeat Ricer choose the awards! It's a very awesome price to win that's for sure and as mentionned, in a LR full of leaders it's tough to only choose one even for the ones without letters and being the one chosen is flattering. So the reason why I won it was because of my activity level always growing, my high earning ( writting this will help with that lol) and finally, my desire to always get better. I'd like to take the spotlight here to announce 2 things 1) @Banackockbeware me, I just got my bear hunting license and I plan to use it fully on your team. 2) In S89, it's 30 goals or nothing for VLG.

     Top Shelf Award
      Landon Wolanin & Leandro Goncalves
Last season,  @jacobcarson877 won his first Top Shelf Award given to the Wranglers player who scored the most goals in the season. Well this season, someone else wins his first Top shelf award, it's @leandrofg, yes leanfrog himself! This doesn't mean Wolanin didn't go back to back! We do have a tie for the most goals ladies and gentlemens ! Both of the S83 forward starting with L  have scored 42 goals this season making them tied for 5th in the league ! 2/3 of the Wranglers feared trio proved once again why they're considered beasts.

     Rybak Trophy
    Daniel Janser & Landon Wolanin

Certified first ballot hall of famer @Daniel Janser wins yet again the Rybak trophy given to the Wrangler with the most points this season. Once again, @jacobcarson877 decided to come in and make a tie smh. All jokes aside, both the mens had fantastic season. Ending the season tied 5th for points both have a pretty good rally of 93 points. It's always a pleasure to see Daniel Janser on the ice and even close to the end he is still playing some brilliant hockey. Wolanin will be happy that he doesn't have a 99 points season again even tho he probably wishes he did, will the 100 point mark finally become a reality for Landon next season ?

     Last Line Award
    AirRig Gudbrandson

Going back to back to back to back on the award this season we have @Rhynex Entertainment bringing home the award for top defenseman. While there were 2 very strong choices the pick ultimately ended up being AirRig Gudbranson. With a total of 65 points he might have less points but his defensive game on the other hand had a step up. 152 shots blocked, 127 hits two very impressive stats for the S83 canadian defenseman. There's one question on everyone's lips tho: Will AirRig Gudbrandson continue gatekeeping the award in S89 or will someone else win it ? Gudbrandson is obviously not past his prime and seeing him win his 5th last line award in a row wouldn't surprise anyone

     Jubis Memorial Trophy
     Landon Wolanin

The jubis memorial trophy is given to the member of the organisation who demonstrates the most potential for long term success. Well, @jacobcarson877isn't only based on long term success that's for sure! In his first season as a VHL Gm the Marlins superlegend won the continental cup !!!!!! Safe to say GM Jacob Carson is set for some long term success in the gm world as well as on the ice with Landon Wolanin who I repeat won both the most points and most goals award ( both tied). Jacob Carson is someone that will be a strong candidate for the David Knight trophy for pretty much his entire career.

     Young Buck Award
    Mason Rice

The winner of the young buck award given to the wrangler's top prospect is @Sawyer13. Despite playing bottom minutes in a terrible Vasteras team ( sorry @Lemorse7but you have to admit it) Mason still continued to earn TPE week after week as a Welfare + earner. A marlins legend, he was drafted by Vasteras 12th in 88 and by our lovely Wranglers 16th. In his first season in the E, Mason had 29 points with 14 goals. In the WJC he had 5 points in 10 games for team world along with 4 points in 3 playoff WJC games. At 347 tpe, Mason Rice will make a long awaited VHL debut in no time

Here is the end of this season's award show. Congrats to every winner of this ceremony but also to every Calgary affiliated member. This season was a wonderful one for the team and we're looking forward to another wonderful season in 89.

Phil reacted to Beketov in Official End of the Lottery Tournament
    Hello everyone,

I know there are some who won’t be pleased to hear this but the league has decided to end the practice of the Lottery Tournament.

It was originally created to give non-playoff teams something to look at sim wise which is good in theory but in practice it has often been completely ignored by both the players and GM’s involved in it. Additionally complications have arisen with the varying lottery odds involving teams not owning their own pick and therefore, intentionally or otherwise, harming another team by choosing to ignore or tank their lines in the tournament. Lastly it just adds more simming time required to a sim team that already has 3 sets of playoffs and multiple off season tournaments to worry about.

So, for all of those reasons, S88 will officially mark the final lottery tournament and moving forward they will not be held. Instead lottery odds will be locked at the following:

    1. 25.0%
    2. 20.0%
    3. 17.5%
    4. 15.0%
    5. 12.5%
    6.  10.0%

These will still give an advantage to the worse teams, versus the old equal odds that we used pre-tournament, but will keep all teams with at least a decent shot at winning. All other rules regarding the draft lottery (only dropping 1 spot, etc) will remain the same.

@VHL GM this is obviously most important for you guys so just throwing a tag there for good measure.

Phil got a reaction from Ricer13 in Banking on Strasmore
The title isn't correct. Maybe it's clickbait. Don't click the link... oh, too late.

Strasmore is entering his fifth of nine VHL seasons. He's surpassed 1000TPE and is banking on and for the future.

The big defenseman, who decided to skip the VHLE is set on keeping his attributes at the same level for the remainder of his career, and so he's responsibly holding onto those earned points to fend off depreciation.

This will be the first time that Phil Knight's players will take on a ninth season, where his client will be hit with back to back 12% depreciations in his final two of his career.

It's going to be a lot of TPE to be regained, but between some depreciation fighters and starting to bank now, he should be close to keeping up and avoiding too big of a decline.

Is this a premeditated move to attempt to sway Calgary GM @Ricer13 into keeping him as a member of the Wranglers for all 9 seasons? Maybe. Yes. Well maybe. He'll honestly do anything for the betterment of the club, but yes, maybe.

I am not sure how many words we are at, but it seems around 150. Strasmore will attempt to get 75 apples, 10+ goals, and more hits and blocked shots than last season. if he can and then maintain those levels, he will actually have had a great career. So far, it's not been amazing, but he did help win a Cup, the highlight of the year!

    Strasmore Looks to Future

Welcome to my Fan590 article turned Media Spot. I must admit I have been delinquent in my point task duties, but it is really hard to be motivated to put the effort in when I'm just an old fart that I can get 5TPE from Welfare. So for the lack of 1TPE, I'd rather spend more time with my son. However, today I am bored at work so here we are!

Now, onto the topic of today: Phil Strasmore.

Strasmore is entering his fifth season, which theoretically should be the pinnacle of his career. He has been steadily gaining TPE up until this point in his career and has topped over 1000! Now, he must brace himself for the very long and devastating road of depreciation. Due to the fact that he did not participate in the VHLE when he had the chance, it means that he will depreciate for the next 4 seasons after this one. The last two of his career at a whopping 12%. This means that if he and his player agent are fine with his attributes, he will start immediately banking for the long haul.

Before we take a look at that, let's first take a look at his career performance. The Big Man has spent his career in Calgary, who have been one of the league's best in that time, and even won a Cup last season. The defenseman hasn't done too much offensively. He has yet to get into double digits for goals, scoring 2 in his rookie season and then 6, 7, and 7, respectively. But Strasmore has always touted himself to be a play maker. Last season he recorded a career high of 57 assists, and is looking to break out and earn 75 this season - a daunting task for him.

Defensively, he has steadily increased his performance, each season recording more hits and more shots blocked than the last, with last season hitting 321 opponents and stopping 173 shots. These are great numbers that he would like to improve on this season and fight to maintain for the rest of his career.

Now looking at his attributes (STHS of course!), his highest stat is defense, which makes perfect sense, sitting at a 90! Passing is right behind it with 89, puck handling and skating at 88  and checking a mere 87, but from his top attributes you can tell this man is a defensive powerhouse with a propensity to distribute the puck.

"I think that with those attributes, Strasmore can definitely leave a mark on the league," says his player agent - Builder HoF inductee Phil Knight. "He has the makings of a great defender. He just needs to be paired up with the right combination of scorers and he can attempt to snag a Beketov Trophy even. There's no doubt that he has that ability. But he's also the type of player that helps out his netminder a lot too. Therein lies his true quality and value."

I do not have my depreciation calculator on hand at this time, but it's safe to assume that if Strasmore wants to maintain this level, he's going to have to earn max TPE and bank everything. Next season will not be hard to recoup but the last two seasons will definitely be a challenge. If he's lucky, and his player makes it to Christmastime, he may be able to salvage his last season or so with some nice free TPE (maybe even sooner than that for VHL's birthday!).

No matter what, the road ahead will be long. Calgary is winding down its near-dynasty levels of competition and although they should remain competitive for seasons to come, Strasmore will try to help push them to at least another Cup before his VHL days are done.
