WJC GM Announcement #2

Aaaand we’re back. The key to any successful hype train is not blow your whole load at once, so we’re spreading these GM announcements out over two days.

Yesterday we met the GMs of the “rEaL” teams:

  • Nic Mariani USA
  • Cowboy Prout CAN

Today we’ll meet the teams tasked with trying to repeat as medallists after successful S76 tournaments.

First up: the bronze medal-winning Team World.

S76 tagline: Coming from every

We meme joke about Team EverywhereElse, but Team World has equal parts great opportunity and great difficulty in choosing their roster. This GM has the huge job of choosing both players from everywhere but the established teams and prioritizing selecting people from the other teams in an ‘expansion draft’ style process.

This GM is going to do an excellent job of making people proud to represent Team World, no matter their nationality. This hype-master brings a unique skillset to the VHL that we haven’t seen much of before. They flex their management muscles day in day out as part of one of the best VHLM cultures in their AGM job. This fast-riser has put in the time and effort to learn the management ropes and figure out how they can use their skills to be the best GM possible. Give a warm welcome to the new GM of Team World:

Team Asia:
S76 Tag line: We’re baaaack

Team Asia, silver medalists last year, had a massive tournament. For the first time in recent memory, the Asians both kicked ass and took names. They rolled through the round robin all the way to the championship game. Historically a brutal team due to the lack of players from Asian countries, S76 GM Kaleeb built a roster capable of beating any team, any day. This season’s GM has big shoes to fill and high expectations: was S76 lightning in a bottle or are the Asians here to stay?

The S77 GM is up to the task of meeting the high bar set last season. This candidate interviewed very well, and was such a hot commodity that they also got a VHLM AGM job in the same week. This guy takes job applications very seriously, and his eagerness and professionalism was impressive. He talks the talk well, but can he build a team hyped to play the underdog role? Only this person can answer that, the new GM of Team Asia:

Spoiler

Alex J! @Alex_J32

Team Europe:
S76 tagline: Another year, another medal. No big deal.

Team Europe is a model franchise. Somehow, despite high turnover every year, the Europeans enter the tournament as favourites. When they don’t win gold medals, they go home with silver medals. For them, it’s always first or bust. A winning track record is exciting but also intimidating. There’s a lot of pressure that comes with high expectations. Who has the challenge of performing under the pressure?

Our final GM is certainly ready for the opportunity. A newer member with a big reputation and a big pants job, this manager is the only one here with a VHL AGM job. Will his big league experience translate to world juniors success? This guy’s been all over the community since he got here, hopping in on discord memey trends, fighting with a big brain in the chess club, and stirring shit up over there in Salem. Despite his disagreement, this GM is definitely a somebody, and if he gets his way, he’ll be somebody with a gold medal on his resume. Welcome the final manager to the team, GM of Team Europe:

Spoiler

N0HBODY! @N0HBDY

And there you have it folks. The management team is set, and that’s a milestone marker in the World Juniors calendar. Keep an eye out for roster selections coming next week, and the tournament will begin once the playoffs end. Cheers to the offseason!

Player eligibility rules:
Players S77 and newer are all eligible
Players S76 and older must be below 350 TPE to be eligible
Any player beyond 350 TPE will (probably) be rolled back to their 350 build
Players are not guaranteed to play for their national team. Team Asia and Team World are historically understaffed and have the option to pull comparable players from Canada, USA, and Europe to ensure competitive balance.
Rosters are 9-4-2.
