Out of a job

Wal-Mart in Canada is much better than I expected it to be. I'm not gonna lie, the actual store part of Target Canada sucks pretty bad. Difficult to find things, even if you do it's out of stock half the time, etc. Only good thing is 99% of the people I've worked with are really chill.

Yeah I was actually super excited for target to come to Canada, cuz I know what they're like in the states. Ever since they opened though it was obvious that something was wrong. Empty shelves, there was never ANYONE there, it was lame.

Yeah, I went to Target probably under 10 times since they've been in Canada. I went there to Christmas shop and found literally nothing that I needed. Went to Wal-Mart and found some things then Toys R Us solved all of my gift buying for neices/nephews.

The only thing I've actually bought at Target, and it's been such a small amount of stuff that I can actually list it.....they are:

Hyrule Warriors for the Wii U

Monster Hunter: Ultimate for the Wii U

A deck of casino cards

Only 3 things.

I've went there to grab stuff only to find out it was sold out, multiple times. I've gone there and left with nothing more often than I've bought something.

Sears is going to help you bro's out. Go get a job at one of them.

On the last day ask your manager or what not if you can get some free swag though, the worst thing they will say is No.

Sears gonna prob be out of business in 5 years tho

Severance is work severance, so if we stay open 16 weeks, we get nothing. It'll be just like getting a normal paycheque which no one seems to understand haha. It's not "work till they close" then get it, it was in affect the day the news launched.

As for my education/experience. I worked at Walmart before going to Target, so I could always go back. I went to school for IT and graphic design, so I could explore those options as well.

Overall, just crappy to be getting the boot because the company can't keep itself afloat.

So, in the next 3-4 months I'll be out of a job. Target Canada has stated they will be closing their doors in all of Canada after reportedly losing over 1 billion dollars in their time open in Canada, and in all of 2013/14 alone.

They're giving us the 3-4 months to keep our jobs, plus a severance for 16 weeks but it's still not the same. I'm just letting you all know that my time will now be severely shifted to finding a job while all of this goes down. I'll still be active as can be, so don't fear, just thought I'd share.

If you live in Winnipeg my aunt is giving jobs to all target employees

Target was a total hole.  Only surprising thing is it took this long for them to run back to the States with their tail between their legs.  I feel bad for those out of a job, but 16 weeks pay is unreal and anyone who has any skills and basic work ethic can find a job in Canada.

Seriously. How does the company not realize opening a store with shelves half empty is a bad thing? Went to 2 targets near me after they opened and they never had anything properly in stock, maybe 1 or 2 of an item (if even). There would be entire sections where items were just flat out not there, and I was in one the day it opened- trust me when I say it wasn't cuz they had sold out of the items already. They had big time supply issues in Canada for sure.

Like the only thing I can think of is them not wanting to overstock the stores in case something like this happened, but how would they not see that would/could directly cause it?

The fucking hilarious thing is how some people respond to the unstocked shelves as the staff sucking. Maybe in some stores that happened, but at mine it was always because we literally didn't have that item anywhere. Nothing we can do but hope it's in the next truck.

Oh well. Ride it out while it lasts, I made some friends, and we're all just screwing around until they tell us to stop showing up. Based on what I heard today -- as someone only trained to work in the backroom -- I don't think I'll be there come February 1st.

The amount of disgusting people that come in like vultures, is just stupid. If we had the sales we've had the past 3-4 days before the store was closing, they'd have NO reason to close. We've exceeded our sale goals by like way too much for the time that's going on.

The only thing that may benefit me to keep my job longer is that I have experience in Starbucks, Electronics, Sales Floor, Backroom and Cashier. So because I've been in so many departments and I've been a TL and now ETL in Electronics, they may keep me haha.

Yeah, there are SO many people in there now. I almost wanted to stand up on the check lane and guilt trip them for not being there the last two years.

And all of that is going to help you big time. I'm in my third month there so I'm pretty much fucked. Our TL wanted to get us all cash trained so we can help on sales floor once all the backroom stuff is done, but the STL was like "nahhhh" so I think we'll all be told to stay home by the end of the month. I don't want to keep working in retail anyways.

You can't really guilt trip consumers for not coming to a place with a clearly supbar supply chain. The real peopel to blame are the corporate swine who thought this plan out.
