Not directed at Brooks, just a general question about English Football.

How popular were Man City when they didn't have Saudi cash? Was United always more popular in Manchester?

ManC wasn't consistently competitive for years, I recall vaguely, before the oil started splashing around.

And United was the worker's club, so they used to be popular before the Glazers turned them into a full flexed business machine.

Schweini to United :o

City were on par with say Hull or Crystal Palace. "Typical City" refers to the mentality that they could blow and game or any season at any given time for no good reason. Mancurians would do things like sing Blue Moon and being referred to as the "Noisy Neighbors" even before they got their money alert you to a strong fan base even before the money. For as long as anyone can remember they play "Hey Jude" every half time. There's a lot of tradition at City but all anyone can highlight is the money. Which is understandable and we get a lot of flack for it but ten years from now it will be just as much of a non-headline as the Glazer, Fenway Sports Group or Abramovich.

I honestly picked them because I liked the color of their shirts. Then I found out they had money but was already invested. If I picked a different club today it would be Everton.

Old player, old news.

Di Maria headed to PSG sounds like. What a waste of money he was.

fuck you sterling.

way overpaid for him at least IMO.  he's just not technically sound despite his world class speed, and an obvious head case.  so dogshit crossing the ball in... cannot get an ounce of pace on his shots or passes.

i'm hoping we've still got some $$ to spend on a striker or winger replacement with the sale.

not sure who we're in on, however.

At least the part of Manchester I grew up in, City weren't really all that popular. In my classes at school, you'd really only have one Man City fan and then pretty much everyone else who had an interest in football was a United fan. It's somewhat understandable considering that Manchester City for quite a while when we were growing up weren't in the Premier League, and I think they were in the league now known as League One (It was called Division 2 at the time) the year United won the treble, so you'd struggle to see a City game on television.

100% agreed we overpaid for him. Everyone agrees on that. The problem is he's very young, very promising, mostly talented and knew he was worth way more than $40k/week. Premier League have more money to play with after a new TV deal and him being English definitely adds to inflation.

I'll leave this though for consideration...

i honestly don't think he's got the desire to improve immensely.  i agree he's worth more than that, but his agent didn't help matters with the negotiations and it honestly seemed like the lifestyle around liverpool is what caused him to want to move away on top of the contract discussions.  there were a couple of poor highlights in there as well... what i saw from him last year was a lot of the highlight around the 4:10 mark... mishitting the ball, etc.

can't wait to believe in Reus coming again ... rumors of  £46m bid going in for him ... I'd do that, but not sure if this is just the normal transfer BS.  Unfortunately, 20% of our £49m has to go back to QPR.

I can assure you that if Reus is for sale he 1) isn't going to Liverpool (no Champions League, expected to finish mid-table) and 2) City would have bid for him instead. The only other destination I expect for Reus is Bayern but even then that won't be until Pep leaves them next summer.

Stupid A) B) C) error.

I love it. I cannot wait to see a 4-2-3-1 that looks like this:

------------------- Aguero -------------------

Nasri ------------- Silva ----------- Sterling

--------- Fernandinho --- Toure ----------

Clichy - Mangala - Kompany - Zabaleta

--------------------- Hart ---------------------

Throw De Bruyne in at CAM/LM and potentially Paul Pogba in where Fernandinho is after City puts up the cash and we are right there with United and Chelsea.

------------------- Aguero -------------------

De Bruyne ------- Silva ---------- Sterling

--------- Toure ------------ Pogba----------

Clichy - Mangala - Kompany - Zabaleta

--------------------- Hart ---------------------

^^^^ Dangerous. Keeping in mind that our substitutes include: Bony, Nasri, Navas, Fernandinho, Fernando, Kolarov, Demichelis, Sagna.

I'm not saying it's the level as Bayern or Barca but for an EPL squad that is better than decent.

third place looks about wrapped up for city.

I'm in hoping mode. I'm going to be honest, Pep has disappointed me.

how on earth could you possibly afford pogba and de bruyne? both will be well over sterling's price IMO

Pogba looks to be 85m Euro and KDB will be around 25-30m pounds.

Sell Navas, Nasri, sold Rekik. Selling Dzeko and Jovetic should net us about 40m pounds. Take that plus the lift of FFP and we should be all set.

Yeah, as last years Bundesliga Player of the Year and still only 24, I don't think KDB will go for any less than £40 Mill, which is coincidentally what City are reported to have bid for him.

I also think you'll struggle to get £40 Mill for Dzeko and Jovetic. I think Dzeko will go for about £15M (Roma offered £14M last I checked) and Jovetic for about £10M (Definitely won't get their money back on him considering the lack of playing time he had at City).

The amount of money being thrown about reminds me of a bloody FM14 game. I have got 15, but haven't had time to DL facepacks/tactics/kit packs yet. There's another 2 days with my shitty internet speeds.

I've got 15 as well, but I haven't gotten into it this year at all, gonna be the first version in a while where I haven't even finished a full season with a team.

Roma look to be backing out.

And yeah.... I'm getting fucked up by all the different currencies. Reports are closer to 50m for KDB. Whatever, it's all money we aren't spending on Pogba apparently.

Oh I got a question and figure this is the best place to ask. Why do the English (perhaps all of Europe?) talk about wages per week, and not wages per year? Does this practice carryover to everyday life as well?
