Big Mac 310
This is quiet simple I’ll be looking at the past Calgary Wranglers from the best pick from the first 2 rounds from S62 -> current S69. 62: Cayden Saint - Saint was drafted second last in the second round. He was a very solid and reliable defensemen, and he had a +44 in his first season with Calgary. That same season he won the Continental Cup with the team, and next season he showed progression in every category, but +/- which fell miserably. He got traded to Davos, and then the following traded to Riga, and then he signed with Toronto, he was definitely a journeyman who ended up settling in Toronto where he had multiple 40 point season, and he played his best offensive season but questionably worst defensive seasons which was actually pretty good. Calgary probably would go back and select Roctrion King as he was a consistent point per game if not near point per game winger who never really was off his game besides the playoff. For all those reasons I give this pick a C+. S63: No pick S64: Diljodh Starload - Starload is their best pick in my honest opinion from this draft. In his time with the time he was a very talented offensive defensemen. In his first season he wasn’t top ten in rookie scoring, but was very solid with a respectable 48 points, but he wasn’t great defensively, and that was a staple for his career just an ok defensive minded player, but an amazing offensive minded player, but from his time in Calgary he had 185 points, and was overall a really good offensive defensemen, and he ended up being traded for picks that ended up being Rj Jubis and Mikko Lahtinen. We’re not grading what they got for him, but what they got out of him so for those reasons he’s an A-. (Honorable mention time Brick Wahl.) S65: Roll Fizzlebeef - This pick could either go Stropko or Fizzlebeef, but ultimately I went with Roll. Fizzlebeef was a likeable Tom Wilson if I had to describe him as a player, for his first couple of years he was between 30-40 point range, but near his tail end of playing years in Calgary he had 66 points and the following he had 67 points. You’ve probably expected this by now he was traded, and he was traded to the Prague Phantoms for their S72 1st and S70 3rd (KSI), and Calgary will need to bank on that 1st big time because that 3rd pick hasn’t been doing so well, and probably doesn’t have a future ahead of him. Another fact to add onto this he is actually 4th all-time in Games Played for the wranglers franchise, and adding this all up I’ll have to give him a rating of a solid B. S66: John Frostbeard - Never played for the team, but is carving out his own solid career he (along with other pieces was traded for Joel Ylonen straight up, but Ylonen was also traded. I have no grade for this pick, but he's not a guy to be taken lightly in this league. S67: No pick S68: Sigard Gunnar - Sigard Gunnar has played his entire professional career for the Calgary Wranglers. Over 250 regular season games and over 25 playoff games. He has been a loyal and well respected captain for the team. When asked to pass his C to fellow veteran Jordan Tonn, Gunnar gladly did so because that's the type of leader he is. - credit to @Jubis (my player so I decided to not be biased.) Here are some other words from Jubis " When I arrived in Calgary I was a shy rookie. Gunnar took me under is wing and showed me the ropes. I truly believe I wouldn't be the confident player I am today without his help. Both of us being left wingers we haven't played a ton together. When we have played together we managed to score some big goals. I sincerely hope he plays out his career with me in Calgary. We have a few cups to win together!". S69: Rj Jubis - Jubis was drafted 5th overall at the time it might’ve been questionable @gorlab said he was a bust. Though recently he’s proven haters wrong, and he’s risen to 4th in his draft class (excluding George Washington and Brock Louth). His first season wasn’t the greatest as he had 11points, but he almost scored 10 goals, but just missed out by 1 goal, and the next season was strong as he had 40+ points, and this year he’s on pace 70+ points, and very well could achieve that total. Big shoutout to Kris Rice who could possibly be in this spot when it’s all said in done. As well as Hiroshi Okada. 626 words from myself + 159 words from @Jubis Edited April 11, 2020 by Big Mac Patrik Tallinder and animal74 2 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/80527-ranking-the-best-calgary-wranglers-picks/ Share on other sites
