The S71 Calgary Wranglers have once again defied pundits’ estimations and have hovered at or near the top of the league since the beginning of the season. Similar to last year, they rely on scoring depth, team defense and a young core that is at various stages of their respective developmental curves.

Taking a look at the 3-Star standings for the team at the season’s halfway point proves that Calgary gets contributions from the whole team as everyone as earned at least one Star vote during a game and 10 players have received a 1st Star for excellent play.

Here are how the Wranglers 3-Star rankings currently stand after 36 games:

Player 1st 2nd 3rd Star Points Total Stars
Tyler Barabash Jr 6 0 1 190 7
Kris Rice 4 1 3 170 8
RJ Jubis 2 4 1 150 7
Jacques Lafontaine 2 3 3 150 8
Sigard Gunnar 2 2 4 140 8
Brady Stropko Jr 2 2 2 120 6
Jordan Tonn 1 1 1 60 3
Ondrej Ohradka 0 2 1 50 3
Hiroshi Okada 1 0 1 40 2
Mikko Lahtinen 1 0 1 40 2
Edwin THE Encarnacion 0 2 0 40 2
Charlie Paddywagon 0 1 2 40 3
Kefka Palazzo 1 0 0 30 1

Last year’s winner and leading scorer, Tyler Barabash Jr, is once again in the lead with 190 points from mainly six 1st Stars. The young nucleus of forwards Kris Rice, RJ Jubis, Sigurd Gunnar, and (still rookie) netminder Jacques Lafontaine, are close behind while veteran blueliner Brady Stropko Jr leads the defense in points.

Milestone Notes:

Kris Rice had a 4-goal game in Game #200 in a 5-3 win versus the New York Americans.

Sigard Gunnar recently recorded the 50th goal, 50th assist, and 100th point of his VHL career.

Kefka Palazzo sits one point back of 100 for his career.

Brady Stropko Jr is only two points back of 300 points.
