I think Seattle will win in 6 games.

2.     What are the big offseason moves to make us good again?

I think we need to pickup up or draft a promising young 4th defenseman. But offense was our worst part last season, so I guess a couple strong offensive players.

Escape the city and travel to remote, quiet locations. If I am in LA it’s tough to turn down a day at the beach, in the ocean.

Got to keep it clean and healthy before a game. I love Acai and oats for a pregame snack to give me the energy for a game.

I like traveling overseas. Davos is probably my favorite place to visit because it is so beautiful.

I think we will win it all. We still have a very talented team and just need to work together to make it happen.

Seems only fitting for Jeffrey Pines to win the Jeffrey Pines memorial tournament MVP award.

5.     What is your favourite song that is about Los Angeles?

Not sure what this says about me because it’s about leaving L.A., but probably “L.A. Freeway” by Guy Clark. “Under the Bridge” by Red Hot Chili Peppers is up there too. Based on those answers, I probably need to find more positive songs about L.A.

Jeffrey Pines will win the Jeffrey Pines Memorial Draft Lottery Tournament MVP.

5. What is your favourite song that is about Los Angeles?

Maybe a big honkin' rhino.

1) How is your summer? Did you get any time off?
2) Do you enjoy spending time with family on vacation or by yourself?
3) What is your go-to special meal?
4) If you could be in the body of an animal for a day, what would you choose?

5) What was your favorite part of this season?

6) What was your least favorite part?

1)    How is your summer? Did you get any time off?

The summer always goes by so fast. I didn’t really take much time off. I have so many things to work on to improve my hockey game that I don’t have the luxury of taking time off right now.

2)    Do you enjoy spending time with family on vacation or by yourself?

Family and community is everything. I don’t think I would have too much fun on vacation if I didn’t have the people closest to me to share it with.

3)    What is your go-to special meal?

I always love Moqueca, a fish stew type dish from my native Brazil.

4)    If you could be in the body of an animal for a day, what would you choose?

Who would turn down the chance at being a bird and flying high above the earth for a day? I would definitely choose a bird for a day. If it were any longer than that I would probably choose something else because flying must be really tiring!

5)    What was your favorite part of this season?

For me, the opening two games were great, I came out with a hattrick and was really contributing. That felt really good. I did also enjoy playing for the world team in the world cup.

6)    What was your least favorite part?

Probably the rest of the season. My performance was extremely disappointing. And our team missed the playoffs. All of that was not enjoyable.

1) How is your summer? Did you get any time off?

I was able to enjoy the summer and just rest up for this season.

2) Do you enjoy spending time with family on vacation or by yourself?

I like being around family.

3) What is your go-to special meal?

Ribeye steak of course with anything else.

4) If you could be in the body of an animal for a day, what would you choose?

I would like to be my dog for a day. He is treated better than most family members.

5) What was your favorite part of this season?

I think the ending of it was a good part. We really never got going.

6) What was your least favorite part?

Playing and losing when you know we could do better but last season had everyone scratching their heads.

1) How is your summer? Did you get any time off?

It's going well, I worked hard for my first VHL season.  Looks like I still have some work to do though.

2) Do you enjoy spending time with family on vacation or by yourself?

I love my family, and have spent some time with them this Summer, but kind of prefer to do my own thing.

3) What is your go-to special meal?

I'm a big pizza guy! or Tacos! Taco pizza??!

4) If you could be in the body of an animal for a day, what would you choose?

Probably something that can fly, or maybe a deep sea creature.  See things from a different point of view or just things we can't see that well in the first place.

5) What was your favorite part of this season?

Making it to the Founder's Cup finals with Minnesota!

6) What was your least favorite part?

The part where my team lost in the Founder's Cup finals.

1. What are your goals for this season?

2. Do you have any expectations for our performance this season?

3. Where do you think we will struggle?

4. What do you think is our biggest strength?

5. Recommend me your favorite movie!

6. What's your favorite song right now?

1.     What are your goals for this season?

Certainly, to improve on my performance from the previous season. My primary goal is to get over a PPG this season.

2.     Do you have any expectations for our performance this season?

My bare-minimum expectation is that we make the playoffs. I’m hoping we’re able to win at least one series in the playoffs.

3.     Where do you think we will struggle?

If the past is any indicator, scoring goals. I also think we’ve struggled with consistency. We need to be able to put together a sting of good games, rather than fluctuating between a good game and a bad game.

4.     What do you think is our biggest strength?

I think our biggest strength is our top line. We have the best top D pair in the league. Our goalie is one of the top netminders in the league, which is a huge strength, especially come playoff time.

5.     Recommend me your favorite movie!

It’s tough to go wrong with the Matrix.

6.     What's your favorite song right now?

The answer to this probably changes for me on a minute-to-minute basis. I’ll give in to recency bias and say “hold yourself.” By Tune-Yards is currently my favorite. But realistically there’s no way that’s my favorite song of all-time. Which means is it really my favorite song right now? And did you not write these last two questions because of the spelling of the word favorite?

1. What are your goals for this season?

Merrick has had a good career. My hopes is that in his twilight years he stay above or at a ppg. Winning the cup would be the most important goal.

2. Do you have any expectations for our performance this season?

I think we have a shot at the cup and we are coming together really well.

3. Where do you think we will struggle?

Consistency would be an issue we have struggled with for a few seasons. I hope we are past a lot of that now.

4. What do you think is our biggest strength?

What used to be our weakness seems to becoming a strong point, scoring goals.

5. Recommend me your favorite movie!

John Wick would be one of my favorite movies or Call of the Wild.

6. What's your favorite song right now?

The theme song for Deadpool 2.

1. What are your goals for this season?

I want to be able to look back at my first season and feel like I contributed something to the team.

2. Do you have any expectations for our performance this season?

I think we can make playoffs, and once you get there anything can happen!

3. Where do you think we will struggle?

I think we will struggle to score goals.  I think we will also rely on only a few people and if they have an off night we will struggle.

4. What do you think is our biggest strength?

I think we have a great top line and starting goaltender.  If they have big strong backs, they can carry us far!

5. Recommend me your favorite movie!

I'm not a big movie guy.  Um just go watch some Star Wars or Lord of the Rings or something.

6. What's your favorite song right now?

I just found this song call Interspace by Starcadian.  Because it's new to me I'm listening to it a lot, so I guess it's my favorite song right now.

1. We sit on top of the NA thunderdome, how do we stay there?

2. Who is our biggest competition?

3. What makes us different from the Stars of past seasons?

4. Which VHL mascot would win in a battle royale?

5. Which player would win in a battle royale?

6. What's the funniest thing you've heard on the ice?

1.     We sit on top of the NA thunderdome, how do we stay there?

The gut reaction is to say something like, we’ve got to keep doing what we’re doing. Dance with the one that brought you, that type of thing. But I think we need to look for opportunities to improve ourselves. Shake things up, change it around. Make sure we can handle any situation.

2.     Who is our biggest competition?

Probably Seattle. They have a score to settle with us too, after we knocked the out of the playoffs a couple seasons ago.

3.     What makes us different from the Stars of past seasons?

I think we all have a share singular focus, winning. Feels like we were only looking out for ourselves before. But now we are all one, ready to win it all.

4.     Which VHL mascot would win in a battle royale?

A really tough one here. Like is the mascot of Davos a mountain or something? It’s tough to beat a mountain. I mean like what could you even do to defeat a mountain? Dig up the whole thing? But then where do you place that dirt? If you just pile it up somewhere else, you’re just making a new mountain. If the Stars are the literal translation of the word and an actual star, that could destroy a mountain and every other mascot at the same time, easy. But I think Stars is not literal, I think it means popular people, so they’re out. My final answer is a Dragon.

5.     Which player would win in a battle royale?

I think ‘ol Pistil has a very good shot. I grew up in a remote area in the Brazilian rainforest, so I can handle all the skills required to win a battle royale.

6.     What's the funniest thing you've heard on the ice?

I don’t listen to much of the chirping that goes on. Most of that goes in one ear and out the other. But I do remember someone saying “Your mom goes to college.” Which caught me off guard and caused me to laugh.

1. We sit on top of the NA thunderdome, how do we stay there?

Well I would think it's going to be the typical up and down season but I hope through hard work we stay at or near the top.

2. Who is our biggest competition?

At this point, just about everyone below us.

3. What makes us different from the Stars of past seasons?

I think we are much more balanced. Good offense, good defense and we have a great goalie.

4. Which VHL mascot would win in a battle royale?

Anyone of them that carries a sword or gun.

5. Which player would win in a battle royale?

I think Pines would be a top choice for me.

6. What's the funniest thing you've heard on the ice?

A Toronto fan yelling that they will win the cup.

1. We sit on top of the NA thunderdome, how do we stay there?

I think the key will be adaptability.  With how things have been going, I think teams will be experimenting, we need to be able to weather the changes.

2. Who is our biggest competition?

Probably Seattle, but who knows what the standings will look like in a few weeks, given how things are going so far.

3. What makes us different from the Stars of past seasons?

This is my first season on the stars so I'm not sure.  I'm here now so maybe that's the difference?

4. Which VHL mascot would win in a battle royale?

It has to be a Star right, stars could destroy any other mascot ez-pz.

5. Which player would win in a battle royale?

Maybe me?  I am Herni the Massive so I'm a big boy with big muscles.

6. What's the funniest thing you've heard on the ice?

I did hear a fan yell "THAT A BOY PINES PASTAHOUSE COUPON!".  I'm not sure what it means but I think about and chuckle frequently.

1. How do you bounce back from a rough patch?

2. At the half way point for the season, do you have any awards predictions that have changed?

3. As we keep battling in the NA thunderdome, how will we stand out from the other teams?

4. If you were running a youth hockey camp, what skills would the kids learn from you?

5. What is your pre-game routine?

6. What is your post-game routine?

6. What is your post-game routine?

1. Usually just getting in practice, it's the best way to try and work yourself out of bad habits. Otherwise just try and find something to help you relax. I get superstitious sometimes, if I have a stretch of poor play at a certain attribute level combination. I'm just overthinking it most of the time.

2. Well, a lot of my predictions are going to be wrong. I think I'll get the Wylde right since I predicted Letang there, but picked Hylands for all the other defense awards. Also picked Dear and Xin for most of the forward awards, those are likely lost as well.

3. We have a great offense, superb goaltending and a defense that has been playing very well. If we keep playing the way we've been, I think we'll fare well.

4. Sliding on the ice like a penguin. It was my favorite thing to do in youth hockey camp.

5. Wake up as late as I can without being late to the rink, snack on some trail mix, throw back a Captain Morgan and Coke for the nerves and just make sure all the equipment is good to go.

6. Ice up whatever needs to be iced, then sleep.

1. I sand that rough patch right out of there. Come back stronger. Work as a group.

2. I don't remember what or who I picked for awards but I am sure I am way off.

3. I think we are in the top 3 teams for sure. We should put up a good showing in the playoffs.

4. I would teach that teamwork is very important and whatever happens in the showers has to be kept a secret.

5. I sleep, shower and eat.

6. After the game I shower, eat and sleep. Easy routine to follow.
