Announcing the S74 Prague Phantoms’ Team Awards as voted by the players.

Best Defenseman

Cinnamon Block @omgitshim

“Cinna” was back to form with a career year after a bit of a down year in S73. She was a force from the backend and her offensive skills were on full display this past season. Block set a new team record for points by a defenseman with 74 and tied her team record for assists by a defenseman with 58. She also led Phantom blueliners in goals, power play assists and points and led the Phantoms in penalty minutes (188 – 5th in the VHL) and hits (292 – 7th in the VHL) with most of those numbers being career-highs. Block continues to be a leader for Prague and she’s proven it with her fourth straight award.

Others Receiving Votes: Wolf Stansson Jr

Unsung Hero

Dan Baillie Jr @wcats, Jacob Perry @Liberty_Cabbage

With nine different players receiving votes for the Unsung Hero award, it just shows how the Phantoms played a team game with everyone providing significant contributions throughout the season. Two players though received a bit more recognition for their unheralded but solid play.

Dan Baillie Jr had a solid rookie season and quickly became part of a dangerous second line for Prague. He was tied for second on the team in plus/minus with co-winner Perry (11), fourth in goal-scoring on the team with 23 goals and added some power play scoring, a game-winning goal and a hat trick.

Jacob Perry came back for his second stint with the team that drafted him to add depth to the Phantoms’ backend that lost Seabass Perrin in the off-season. The move back to Prague sparked Perry as he had one of the best seasons of his career. His grit and physicality made life easier for Prague’s young goalies and Perry set career-highs in plus/minus (11), penalty minutes (186 – 6th in the VHL), hits (237), and shots blocked (157). He also led the Phantoms in assists, hits, and shots blocked in their 3-game playoff series.

Most Energetic

Ondrej Ohradka @animal74

While his physicality has been slowing down as he nears the end of his career, Ohradka nonetheless was a catalyst for the Phantoms as he set a team record for goals in a season with 35 as well as leading the team in power play goals (12) and hat tricks (2). He was all over the ice with strong play in all three zones and had a knack for being in the right spot at the right time. He was also a strong voice in the locker room in a year where Prague made it to the play-in round for the first time in three seasons. This is his second time taking home this award.

Others Receiving Votes: Thomas Landry II, Wolf Stansson Jr, John LeClair II

Most Gentlemanly

Thomas Landry II @Doomsday

Always mild-mannered off the ice in spite of his reputation as a bulldozing power forward on it, there was a noticeable difference to Landry II’s play in S74. While still taking the body and stirring things up, he was not as belligerent as his career-low in penalty minutes would suggest (103) but instead focused more on scoring as had career-highs in assists, points, and game-winning goals. The Phantoms always appreciate his strength and truculence during the games but his attention to staying out of the box more time to be an offensive force was rewarded by his teammates with his second Most Gentlemanly award.

Rookie of the Year

Dan Baillie Jr @wcats

In any other year Baillie Jr would have been in contention for VHL Rookie of the Year. But in spite of being part of one of the best rookie classes in recent memory, DBJ still placed in the Top-10 in goals and points among rookie forwards. In Phantoms’ history, he had the second-highest goal total ever for a rookie (23), set a team record for rookie plus/minus (11) and became the third Prague rookie to score a hat trick. While the entire group of rookie Phantoms all made significant contributions in S74, Baillie Jr stood out a bit more.

Others Receiving Votes: John LeClair II, Riley Knight Gee, John Poremba

Most Valuable Player

Dagmar Havlova @diamond_ace

Havlova translated her best year ever into the best year ever by a Prague Phantom. On the strength of her second consecutive 29-goal season and 55 assists she tallied 84 points which set a new franchise record for points in a season. She also set a Prague record for shots in a season with 440 and led the team in plus/minus for the second year in a row while helping rookie winger Baillie Jr to a monster year. Her consistency and contributions at both ends of the ice were unmatched which led teammates to vote her as the Phantoms’ MVP.

Phantom of the Year

Thomas Landry II @Doomsday

The Phantoms are blessed to have quite a few drafted and developed players who have committed to the team their entire careers. This loyalty has bred an envious culture and comradery and few have embodied the Phantom spirit like Thomas Landry II. Signed to be a Phantom for the rest of his career, Landry is a solid contributor on the ice and a powerful and vocal presence off it. He’s almost omnipresent in the locker room and always there to answer a question, provide encouragement, or look in the mirror. These qualities are what Prague looks for in their Phantom of the Year.

3-Stars Award

Ondrej Ohradka

Ohradka had a career year in S74, setting a team and career-high in goals with 35, while also setting career-highs in assists (45), points (80), shots (291), and power play goals (12), assists (13), and points (25). His totals for power play goals and points led the team as did his first two VHL hat tricks. He was also second on the Phantoms with 5 game-winning goals and was on a tear near the end of the season to help secure Prague’s spot in the play-in round. He led the team with nine 1st Stars of the Game selections and led the team in 3-Stars points to win the award.
