  1. The Past Few Games The Mexico City Kings of the VHLM currently are holding down one of the top spots in the league, and they have the stats to prove it. They have 68 points, which is tied for 3rd overall with the Philadelphia Reapers. Let's take a look at some of their past games: Mexico City Kings vs. Philadelphia Reapers Here was a game between a couple of the best teams in the VHLM. Expect a close one. In the 1st Period, Mexico City's Luke Pastrnak scored his 22nd of the season to put the Kings up 1-0. At the 11:37 mark, Watson Stonebridge doubled Mexico's lead to 2-0, with his 12th of the season, and Deke Rike's 52nd assist. The 17-8 shots of the 1st period clearly were the reason that the Kings took a 2-0 lead. In the 2nd Period, the Reapers player Drakon Zabastovka scored his 4th of the season on a PP, to bring the game to 2-1. But, Mexico City fired back, going on their own PP only a minute later, where Rhys Trenton scored his 26th of the season. Chances were had both ways, but late in the period with 30 seconds left, Luke Pastrnak scored his 23rd goal to give the Kings a 4-1 lead heading into the 3rd. In the 3rd Period, Philly battled back and Connor Wilson scored his 14th, bringing the game to 4-2. Despite a 11-3 shot period for the Reapers, they weren't able to capitalize any more, and Mexico City won 4-2. Bastian Greiss' 23 saves were the difference in this one. Mexico City Kings vs. Yukon Rush This game was between the favourited Mexico City Kings and the 14-30-4 Yukon Rush. In the 1st Period, Mexico City's Watson Stonebridge put them on the board on the PP, bringing the game to 1-0 in a 14-5 shot period. Both teams swapped some penalties but only the Kings were able to score. In the 2nd Period, Yukon's Johnny Appleweed got their first marker on the PP, bringing the game to 1-1. The Yukon Rush were having troubles staying out of the box, and so Mexico City then capitalized again on the PP later in the 2nd. Luke Pastrnak scored his 24th of the season at 13:15, then on another PP 2 minutes later, Saku Kotkakoivu scored his 25th goal, giving Mexico a 3-1 lead. Giving the Rush some hope, Johnny Appleweed scored his 2nd of the game late in the 2nd Period, bringing this one to 3-2. In the 3rd Period, Johnny Appleweed got his hat trick just 2:04 in, and tied the game 3-3. Mexico City kept fighting in this one with a 11-5 shot final period, and managed to score late with Dookie Headtop getting the 4-3 goal. Sunrise van de Schubbekuteveen scored an empty netter, and this game ended 5-3 with a late scare for the Kings. Neither goaltender had a notable performance in this one, but Mexico City still escaped with a win despite outshooting their opponent 39-16. Mexico City's last game was another win against the Philly Reapers, by a score of 5-4 in a shootout. I'm not going to summarize it though because I already have 500 words. Hehe.
  2. 1. We're rolling with a 32-12-4 record, with 127 goals against, which is the 2nd lowest in the league. What do you think is the major factor giving our team such a low amount of goals against? 2. Which player do you think is the most offensively gifted on the team? 3. Which player do you think is the most defensively gifted on the team? 4. Which goalie do you think is the best in the VHLM, and destined for VHL greatness? 5. What is one area that you think your player could improve right now? 6. Which VHLM team would you be the most afraid of going against in the playoffs? @FBR @Plate @Spade18 @JCV @duckberg32 @GoldGear88 @DollarAndADream @Thunfish @bukss_a @Pengu @jhatty8 @DeeGoat @ThatsGreissy @Advantage
  3. The Mexico City Kings currently sit on the top of their conference, but 3rd in the VHLM with 50 points. This is behind the 1st place Mississauga Hounds and the 2nd place Philadelphia Reapers. But, within their conference, the City Kings are up 5 points above the Saskatoon Wild and holding down the top spot. Let's take a look at their recent games, because it's Sunday and I don't feel like doing a graphic and this is easy to type out. Halifax 21st vs. Mexico City Kings In this game, Mexico City was obviously the favourite, because things did not go down that way. In the 1st Period, Saku Kotkakoivu opened the game up with his 22nd goal at the 2:01 mark of the period. Halifax's Bryn Yrwy then tied it up 1-1 under 2 minutes later. Less than a minute later, Mexico's Luke Pastrnak then gave the Kings the lead again with his 16th goal. Things began to fall off for Mexico, where Halifax's Damir Timofeyevich scored minutes later, then late in the period, then Jacob Richard scored a PP marker to give Halifax the 3-2 lead heading to the 2nd Period. In the 2nd, Bryn Yrwy scored his 29th goal of the season, bringing the game to 4-2. 2 minutes later, Flynn Remy brought Mexico City back within a goal, at 4-3. But that was all she wrote in this game, as the 3rd Period was scoreless and Halifax's goaltender, David Davis shut the door the rest of the way. Mexico's Bastian Greiss did the same to try and keep them in this game, but this one ended as a 4-3 win for the Halifax 21st. Mexico City Kings vs. San Diego Marlins This was another game in which the Kings were the favourite, considering San Diego's negative record. In the 1st Period, San Diego's Alexander Rivers scored his 21st of the season at 11:35 of the period, giving the Marlins the 1-0 lead. The period would end with SD up 1-0. In the 2nd Period, Watson Stonebridge scored his 10th of the season to tie this game at 1-1, with assists to Arthur Kimura and Dike Rike. In the 3rd Period, the two teams traded goals, with Sunrise van de Schubbekuteveen scoring his 29th for the Mexico City Kings. Late in the game, San Diego's Pippo Coca tied this one up 2-2 to send it to OT. Not much action happened in OT, with Mexico having the only shot on net. In the shootout, the goaltenders put on a show after both letting in the first shot, but in the end the Marlins player Lochlan Chisholm scored the shootout winner. San Diego won this game 3-2 in a shootout. Ottawa Lynx vs. Mexico City Kings Well, there's not much to say about this game other than it was a fantastic showing of Mexico's offense. Unfortunately for Ottawa, they started the game off by taking an early penalty, and this set the tone for the game. Mexico's Dookie Headtop scored a PP goal early at 1:31 of the period. Next, Mexico's Deke Rike made the game 2-0, and the Lynx made it out of that period with a respectable score that wouldn't last. The shots in the 1st were 8-7, but that wouldn't keep up. In the 2nd, Mexico outshot the Lynx 20-2, and there went the game. Saku Kotkakoivu and Rhys Trenton both scored goals to start the period, then Sunrise van de Schubbekuteveen scored 4 goals in a row to end the period with an 8-0 score. Unfortunately for Mexico's goaltender Bastian Greiss, the Ottawa Lynx would score a late goal in the game to break the shutout, with Austin Towbaker potting his 3rd. Of course, Bastian saved 18 of 19, which is great. No need to throw Ottawa's goalies under the bus here though, considering the shots. Alex Parise didn't have much of a chance with a 20-2 shot 2nd period. The total shots weren't actually that bad with 36-19 in favour of Mexico.
  4. 1. I don't think it needs to be someone with experience, necessarily. Just get someone who's active, is good in the community, and will be able to commit to it. Inactive or half active GMs are the worst. 2. We've got the best knack for keeping pucks out of the net. We just have to continue doing that. Goaltending and defense. 3. Top 10 still, for sure. They've got what it takes. 4. They have solid players. Honestly, in the VHLM I think with the big teams it's just up to the sim. 5. Make affiliate donation bonuses apply across leagues. Like, my donated free week from SBA I should be able to use in the VHL. But unfortunately, I claim that free week over there, and still have to do a PT over here. Which makes the free week kind of useless, because I have to do a PT anyways that I can claim across leagues. 6. I'd probably go back to Toronto and try to win it there again. That's the team I won the 3peat with as Parechkin, and the team I didn't win any cups with as a GM. A do-over.
  5. Going to be weird seeing old VHL/VHLM teams mixed together in one league.
  6. The Mexico City Kings currently sit at the top of the league in the VHLM, and this is in no doubt thanks to their consistent offense. They are 17-3-0, and are getting constant goal support from all around their lineup. While they likely have favoured players in the fan base, the City Kings have nobody that's completely blowing anyone away on their roster. The offense has been distributed all throughout the team. They have 6 players with over 20 points, and 4 players with 30 points or more. Not only that, but they have 5 players with at least 10 goals or more. Sunrise van de Schubbekuteveen and Saku Kotkakoivu sit amongst the top players in the league with 19 and 18 goals a piece. This Mexico City Kings team has been firing on all cylinders and are currently on a 3 game winning streak. One of the major contributors to them having this record is their goaltending and defense. Their 56 goals against is best in the league, the lowest of any team. Bastian Greiss has been a monster in net with 17 wins, 0.909% saves, and a 2.76 GAA, which is fantastic especially for the VHLM.
  7. 1. We've been really good at having everyone contribute. There's nobody really dominating our team in scoring. We have 5 players over 20 points. 2. The VHLM is a great league because it showcases future VHL stars. There's a lot of talent down here and everyone is pushing to get drafted, so everyone has the same motivations. 3. Ice cream sandwiches. 4. Netherlands! 5. Any winger position! 6. I don't know why, but I've always liked datboi. Or the shooting stars video meme.
  8. Now that first few games have been played in the VHLM, let's take a look at what the Mexico City Kings and Saku Kotkakoivu have been up to. The Kings are 3-1-0 so far, which gives them the top spot in their conference, and 3rd overall in the VHLM. They have 14 goals for and 12 goals against, which tells the story so far of how close their games have been. They've had some great goaltending and defense, and have been able to put goals on the board from all areas. Centerman Deke Rike has been leading the way on C with 8 points in 4 games so far, while Watson Stonebridge and Luke Pastrnak are tied with 3 goals each to lead the team in that category. Bastian Greiss has been great in net, with a 2.94 GAA and 0.911 save percentage. While the Mexico City Kings might not have any singular player who is blowing the league away with their performance, they have all been working together to form chemistry in order to earn those wins. As for Saku Kotkakoivu, he has 3 points in those 4 games so far, with 1 goal and 2 assists. He has the most shots on the team with 19, so the 1 goal is a little bit surprising. Nobody will complain about those generated chances though. "Personally, I want to produce more, that's for sure. If I can start potting some goals and producing in other areas on the ice as well, then I'll be happy. I don't like having only 1 goal so far and 3 points, but we're only 4 games in so there is plenty of time to turn it around. I'm just glad the team is doing well." - Saku

  10. 1. When Kevin Bieksa scored in OT in 2011 to bring the Canucks to the Stanley Cup Finals. Don't remember much after that though. 2. Younger. They need a future. They will still be competitive for sure with some namely picks, but you can't just grab all the high priced stars. 3. One of my first jobs I was a dishwasher in a nice restaurant on a golf course. I got upgraded to a line cook, and I actually had a ton of fun with the waitresses and cooks, etc. I had a blast in that kitchen on a lot of nights. I would say my absolute favourite is my current job as an elevator mechanic though. 4. I fully trust anyone on our roster to lead us to the top. 5. This is the VHLM, so I would say score goals and get a lot of assists. 6. Computer, video games, music.
  11. Tonight, we saw the happening of the S79 VHLM Dispersal Draft. There was a big mix-up of players finding their new teams, and it's going to be very interesting to see what players gel with who on their respective teams. Saku Kotkakoivu was drafted at 5th overall to the Mexico City Kings, who look to have a very strong roster on paper heading into the season. The City Kings have a great lineup of 3 solid lines, with 4 defenseman and a stellar goaltender. With some growth, some chemistry, and some can-do attitude, this team has what it takes to win it all. "I can't wait to step on the ice and help lead this team to the top. I had a fun introduction into the VHLM last season, but this one is where I believe I will make my mark. I can't wait to get into the flow of things and light it up out there against every team. We have what it takes to win a championship here, and I will do all that I can to help us achieve that feat."
  12. 1. I'm excited to play with everyone! Brand new team for me! Let's find some chemistry! 2. Hey, let's go big or go home. Cup, baby! 3. My last birthday was during covid where we barely saw our families, etc. I went snowboarding with the nieces and nephews and had a great time for my birthday. Didn't see them for months. 4. Lots of water sports on the lake! 5. Everyone else we face is my rival. 6. I'm good to go, to be honest. They could get me a free 100 TPE for no reason, but that's a hard ask.
  13. I think Winter's 50 goals and 100 more hits should get the vote, IMO.
  14. Breaking into the VHLM last season on the Mississauga Hounds, Saku Kotkakoivu took his first steps on to VHL minor league ice. While he did not wow anybody by any means, he played a respectable game as a young centerman for the team. Kotkakoivu went out and had 16 points in 18 games, which included 6 goals. He had 32 hits in those 18 games as well, showing that he has a physical touch to his game. We met Saku over Zoom call and asked him what he thinks about the upcoming VHLM Dispersal Draft. "I just want all the GM's to know that I'm willing to do whatever it takes. I want to go out there and win a championship, and I will be picking no favourites in regards to teams. I'll play for anyone. I'll win for anyone. I'm ready to go out there for whoever chooses me and play my heart out."
  15. After what was hyped up as Stone Wolski's final run at the cup, all of that excitement ended quickly at the hands of the Chicago Phoenix. The Phoenix put 5 goals past Stone Wolski in Game 6 of the Conference Semi Finals, while the goalie on the other side held the door shut. In Game 6, the Dragons outshot the Phoenix 61-36, but Chicago won 7-4. JP Camus saved 57 of 61 shots, for a 93.% save percentage, while Wolski for the Dragons put up an abysmal 66.7%, saving 10 of 15. Stone Wolski has seen a lot of action in this career, and stolen many games, but this final game of his career just was not right. We turn to Wolski for his thoughts: "Honestly, I have to admit, I was high. I smoked a blunt before this game. I was nervous. I had anxiety that this could be my final game in the league, so I got high. In hindsight, it was probably not the greatest move, and I take full blame for this playoff loss." In regards to his career with the DC Dragons: "I wouldn't have it any other way. It has been a wild ride with the Dragons, and I wouldn't change it. Staying here for my entire career has been amazing and I definitely had a lot of fun. I played with some great teammates, and the upper brass always acted like pros. I wish them luck in the future."
  16. DC was 4-2-0 against Seattle this season. I will submit this as my argument, and decline any other solid claims.
  17. DC would have beaten Seattle. It's undeniable facts with no evidence.
