  1. Saku Kotkakoivu is ready to move up to the VHL, after having a great season in the VHLE with the Vasteras Iron Eagles. After getting drafted high in the VHL Draft by the Calgary Wranglers, Saku elected to play down in the VHLE, despite some thinking otherwise. With fellow draftee Matty Fire tearing up the VHL in his rookie season, it was going to be interesting to watch how Saku Kotkakoivu performs in the VHLE. In his season with the Vasteras Iron Eagles, Saku had 28 goals, 63 assists, and 91 points in 72 games. His Iron Eagles were 4th in a very competitive inaugural VHLE season. In the playoffs, the Iron Eagles surprised many. They came back in both of their series against the Stockholm Vikings and Rome Gladiators to win the cup. Saku had 9 goals and 14 assists, for 23 points in 14 playoff games. He stepped it up alongside his teammate Willy Myers, as well as goaltender Xavier Booberry leading the way. All 3 had strong showings and look to become great VHLers. "I just want to step into the VHL and show everyone what I got. I think I will gel well with my Wranglers teammates, and I fully believe we can win it all with our leadership and roster of players. I'm excited to make this next step and show that I belong." - Saku
  2. 1. I had Vancouver, but mostly because I used to play for the Quebec City Meute in my early VHL days. 2. Unless you're desperate, I always like the BPA approach. 3. I think Calgary has a good amount of offense. Maybe the blueline? I'm not sure. We have a great LR presence. 4. Just to not look like poop as a rookie. Have a respectable season. PPG would be awesome. 5. Hopefully me. 6. At least 3 woods, or as much as he could.
  3. I mean, it's really a thrilling story to be behold, by any VHL fan from any league. The Vasteras Iron Eagles have won the VHLE Championship. After going down 2-0 against the Stockholm Vikings in Round 1, the Iron Eagles stormed back, winnings Games 3, 4 and 5, 5-2, 8-0 and 6-0. The Vikings would come back and win Game 6, but ultimately Vasteras won Game 7 by a score of 4-3. After that series comeback against Stockholm, they would do similar things when they faced off in the finals against the Rome Gladiators. Rome would win the first 2 games, and the Iron Eagles had their work cut out for themselves once again. Vasteras won Game 3 by a score of 4-3, then the Gladiators won Game 4 5-4 and went up 3-1 in the series. The cursed 3-1 STHS series lead. The Vasteras Iron Eagles were primed to win this series after being down 3-1, no? Vasteras then went on to win Game 5, 4-3.....and decided to showcase their offensive prowess in the next 2 games. In Game 6, they killed the Rome Gladiators with a 7-4 score, and repeated that in Game 7 with a 6-1 blowout. You definitely have to feel for the Rome Gladiators. I can't imagine what that locker room was like with a 3-1 series lead. But I can't feel for them for long, because I just won a championship. Their failure is my victory. The VHLE's first champions are the Vasteras Iron Eagles! Coming back from their franchise closure many seasons ago in the VHL, they storm back in the VHLE's inaugural season and win it all. I would like to thank my GM and my teammates. What a ride that was. See you all in the VHL in the future!
  4. Can't forget @STZ. Jake Wylde was a Meute also.
  5. Rami Jacobssen, Milos Denis....Jake Wylde. Team was stacked. Can't believe that was that many years ago.
  6. Forcing Game 7 Recently in the VHLE, the Vasteras Iron Eagles have been facing off against the Rome Gladiators in a competitive series. Rome got off to a 2-0 series lead, and held that lead to a 3-1 series, where Vasteras just won the next 2 games to force Game 7. Let's see how those played out. Iron Eagles vs. Gladiators This was a hard fought, competitive game, with both teams having over 50 shots. It was up to the goalies to decide who won. In the 1st Period, Vasteras got off to a hot start. Rome's Tyler Steel would take a penalty at the 7 minute mark, and send Vasteras to the PP. At 8:28, Saku Kotkakoivu would score his 8th goal of the playoffs to bring this game to 1-0, with assists to Willy Myers and Ryan Vidot. Rome would quickly tie it up 30 seconds later, however, when Deke Rike would pot home his 3rd. A few minutes later at 11:58, Saku Kotkakoivu would score another goal to bring the score to 2-1, and late in the period, Alessandro Nano would score his first of the playoffs, giving the Iron Eagles a 3-1 lead. In the 2nd Period, the Gladiators would battle back, when Vasteras' Braxton Hunter's penalty sent them to the PP. Hari Singh Nalwa scored his 7th of the playoffs at 7:39, and at 10:20, Otto Numminen would score his 7th as well to bring the game to a tie. The teams traded chances but that score held until the 3rd. In the 3rd Period, Rome outshot Vasteras 23-20, but it was Vasteras who came away with a goal. Rome's Flynn Remy would take a penalty early in the period, and Shaggy Tipton scored on the PP to give the Iron Eagles a 4-3 lead. Xavier Booberry would shut the door the rest of the way, and ultimately saved 52 of 55 to give Vasteras the win. Saku Kotkakoivu was the 1st Star with 2 goals. 3-2 series, on to Game 6. Gladiators vs. Iron Eagles In Game 6, Vasteras would struggle early, but eventually stabilize and play strong. Rome's Donne Taliferro scored his 1st of the playoffs early in the game at 1:11, to give Rome a 1-0 lead. Not long after that, Alessandro Nano took a tripping penalty and sent the Gladiators to the PP, where Hari Singh Nalwa scored and gave the Rome Gladiators an early 2-0 lead in Game 6, trying to end this series. Queue the comeback for the Vasteras Iron Eagles. At 7:49, Deagun Rust scored his 1st in the post-season to bring his team within 1. Jordan Heavens took a penalty at 10:28, but it was Vasteras who surprised and capitalized with a shorthanded goal on Willy Myers' 13th goal. 2-2 game. Vasteras would score another 3 goals in the last 10 minutes of the period to blow Tobias Reinhart out of the net. Braxton Hunter, Shaggy Tipton, and Armani Calamari's goals brought the score to 5-2 in the 1st Period with shots 17-8 in their favour. Early in the 2nd Period, Donne Taliferro capitalized on a Jocke Jockesson penalty, and brought this game to a 5-3 score. But, at 10:59, Kyle Peace would score a bit of a dagger to the heart of Rome to bring this game to 6-3 heading into the 3rd. Flynn Remy scored an early PP goal to bring this game to 6-4, but Vasteras took over after that. They would outshoot Rome 18-6 and add another goal by Alessandro Nano, to close this one out 7-4 and force a Game 7. Despite a lacking game by Xavier Booberry with 20 saves on 24 shots, Vasteras over-powered the Rome Gladiators with the shots being 46-24. They had goals by 7 different players, showing teamwork to force a 7th game.
  7. 1. I'd say it went pretty good. Most teams were so close to each other, which is expected in an inaugural draft I would say. 2. Coming back from a 2-0 series and taking out Stockholm. Hopefully we repeat that against Rome. 3. Switch up the sim, maybe. That's a big and tough ask though, to convert a whole league. SHL did it and had many troubles. 4. I think we have a great chance. Games have been close. 5. Completing the comeback from a 2-0 series. 6. The VHLE is a fun place to be. Guys around me in the draft jumped straight to the VHL, but I've had fun here.
  8. Not sure what I'm supposed to do with this comment. Do better on your next piece, please. I think the text here is the main issue. It covers so much of the graphic, and the graphic doesn't need to be that large.
  9. I feel like the quality here is less than usual from you. The text doesn't do any good for this piece either.
  10. Recently, the Vasteras Iron Eagles looked to be in trouble early, as they went down 2-0 in their series against the Stockholm Vikings. Just yesterday though, they fought back and brought the series to 2-2, with commanding 5-2 and 8-0 victories. 8-0 was definitely a statement game, where they tied the series and their top players performed to their best. Today, the Vasteras Iron Eagles continued that trend and had another strong game to take the series lead, after being down 2-0. They won Game 5 by a score of 6-0, another big victory. Led by a Willy Myers hat trick and a Xavier Booberry shutout, all of a sudden the Iron Eagles find themselves on the verge of a series win. It's not over yet though, as they still have work to do in Game 6, and possibly 7. "We can't let the Vikings get back in this series. I think we've shown after those first 2 games that we know what we need to do to win now. We just have to keep on the pressure and play well defensively. We have what it takes to win it all in these playoffs." - Saku Kotkakoivu
  11. Vasteras Ties the Series After going down 2-0 in the series to the Stockholm Vikings, the Vasteras Iron Eagles had a tough hill to climb. They proved in the next games that they were not out of this series. Stockholm Vikings vs. Vasteras Iron Eagles In Game 3 of this series, the Iron Eagles got off to a hot start in the 1st Period. Stockholm's Bob Beach took an early penalty to give the Iron Eagles an early PP. Jordan Heavens scored the PP marker at 4:07, to bring this game to 1-0. Two and a half minutes later at 6:34, Kyle Peace scored his 1st of the playoffs to give Vasteras a 2-0 lead. Then Mr Duk went to the box for Stockholm, and Vasteras took a stranglehold on this game. Shaggy Tipton scored on the PP to make it 3-0. Although, at 8:01, Omi Aberg scored for the Vikings, and this game was 3-1 heading into the 2nd. In the 2nd Period, Vasteras' Jocke Jockesson took a penalty to give Stockholm an early PP. Aldwin Craig scored his 2nd of the playoffs, and this game became very close at 3-2. Penalties went both ways after that, but both teams killed them off, and the score was 3-2 Vasteras heading in the 3rd. In the 3rd Period, there were shots galore, as Vasteras had the shot advantage at 21-14 in the 3rd. Kyle Peace scored at 6:41 to give the Iron Eagles the 4-2 lead, and then Braxton Hunter scored the dagger 5-2 goal, which ended up being the final score. Xavier Booberry was the story of this game, saving 41 of 43 shots for the Vasteras Iron Eagles. Stockholm Vikings vs. Vasteras Iron Eagles Game 4 of this series was a beating, and nothing but highlights for the Vasteras Iron Eagles. Outshooting the Stockholm Vikings 20-6 in the 1st Period, Vasteras took a commanding start to the game. Mr Duk from Stockholm took a penalty early, and Shaggy Tipton scored on the PP to bring it to 1-0. Only minutes later, Shaggy Tipton scored another goal to bring this one to 2-0. At 9:10, Omi Aberg took a diving penalty and sent Vasteras back to the PP. Willy Myers scored his 4th of the playoffs, and this game was starting to look bad for the Vikings. Kyle Peace then added another goal late in the 1st Period, and all of a sudden it was 4-0 heading into the 2nd. The 2nd Period was all Vasteras as well, and they capitalized on their power plays once again. Saku Kotkakoivu scored his 2nd of the playoffs halfway through the period on the PP, and then he added another one 24 seconds later. 2 goals from Saku, and this was now a 6-0 blowout. Late in the period, Kyle Peace added a 7-0 marker. The 3rd Period wasn't nearly as bad for the Vikings, but Vasteras still added a goal, when Willy Myers brought this game to a 8-0 score. Stockholm Vikings goaltender Em Em Flex stayed in for all 8 goals, saving 54 of 62 shots. Vasteras' Xavier Booberry had a 31 save shutout. Hard for a team to win a game when you're getting outshot 62-31, as the Vikings did.
  12. 1. Just gotta get back to winning again. Can't get too disappointed, as all you can do is work to win again. 2. Consistency in all areas. 3. All or nothing. 4. Definitely congrats to him. 5. Thick as heck. It's Calgary, so winter conditions are always predictable. It can get COLD. 6. I'll be the rookie next season. I'll check.
  13. A huge goaltending battle in the VHLE just took place between the Rome Gladiators and the Vasteras Iron Eagles. Iron Eagles goaltender Xavier Booberry, and Gladiators goalie Luke Spinelli both just put on a showing. This game had a ton of shots. In the 1st Period, Braxton Hunter scored for Vasteras, meanwhile Russell Dixon scored for Rome, having a 1-1 tie in the 1st Period. The Rome Gladiators outshot the Vasteras Iron Eagles 18-9. In the 2nd Period, there were no goals, despite the shots being 18-13 for Rome. In the 3rd Period, Vasteras' Willy Myers scored, then Tyler Steel tied it up at 2-2. Shots were 21-17 in the 3rd Period. In OT, Vasteras outshot Rome 4-1, but this game headed to a shootout, where Xavier Booberry shutout Rome with 3 saves. Hendrix Cobberson gave the Iron Eagles the shootout winner. Look at those shots, 58 to 43 in favour of the Rome Gladiators....who left in defeat. The story of this game was obviously Iron Eagles goaltender Xavier Booberry, who saved 56 of 58 shots, for a whopping 0.966% saves. Talk about a monster performance. That's not to say Luke Spinelli's 41 of 43 saves were not great as well, but unfortunately that 0.953% comes in a loss.
  14. 1. I fully believe the Wranglers can catch up. All you gotta do is believe. 2. Getting into the top 10 in some categories in the VHLE and proving myself. 3. I feel like if I just made a nicer pass or a nicer shot here and there, it could have won us more games. 4. Wranglers have a very storied history in the VHL. They know when to get silly in the locker room, and when to be serious. You would see both sides of that. 5. When I'm on the ice, everything off the ice just fades away. The ice is another realm for me. 6. No. It's not about me. This is a team game.
  15. Vasteras' Recent Games Well, here's another article of me summarizing a couple of the Vasteras Iron Eagles recent games. The 31-27-6 Iron Eagles, who sit in 4th place with 68 points, but are 3 points behind 3rd place, and 9 points behind 2nd. Vasteras Iron Eagles vs. Istanbul Red Wolves This game was a battle between your Iron Eagles, and the last place Istanbul Red Wolves team. The 1st Period was a bit of a crazy one, where the Red Wolves out shot the Iron Eagles 18-8, but the score didn't flow that way. Istanbul's Drakon Zabastovka took a couple of early penalties minutes into the game, and the Iron Eagles capitalized on both. Ryan Vidot scored his 22nd of the season on the PP at 1:13, and then Kyle Peace followed that up by scoring his 34th at 2:11. Vasteras took an early lead, and Drakon Zabastovka had to be feeling that one. Istanbul would battle back, however. At the end of the period, Ryan Li scored his 31st goal, and brought the score to 2-1 heading into the 2nd. In the 2nd Period, Gregory Bates tied the game up early at 1:26, scoring his 21st of the season. Chances were pretty even both ways, but it wasn't until 16:17 that Gregory Bates scored again to give Istanbul the 3-2 lead. In the final minute of the 2nd, Deagun Rust scored his 5th goal of the season, tying this game at 3. The 3rd Period was less exciting than the others. It was uneventful until at 14:23, Kyle Peace scored on the PP on a Kman tripping call. Kman immediately redeemed himself though, where he tied the game up at 4-4 a little over a minute after Kyle Peace's goal. This game then headed to OT, where it only took until 1:23 for Vasteras' Willy Myers to end it with his 31st goal of the season. Both goaltenders, Xavier Booberry and Leroy Johnson had under a .900 save percentage in this game with 38-37 shots. Vasteras Iron Eagles vs. Stockholm Vikings Vasteras' most recent game was against the Stockholm Vikings, who currently hold 1st place in the VHLE. Shaggy Tipton took a penalty just 44 seconds into the game, and Stockholm capitalized on that. Omi Aberg scored his 39th of the season on the PP to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead. At 8:56, Saku Kotkakoivu scored his 26th of the season to tie the game at 1-1. Then 14 seconds later, Shaggy Tipton made up for his earlier penalty by scoring his 30th of the season, to give the Iron Eagles the 2-1 lead. The 2nd Period was complete domination for the Stockholm Vikings, where they outshot the Iron Eagles 20-3. Zach Kisslinger II and Omi Aberg both made those shots worth while, giving Stockholm 2 goals and a 3-2 lead heading into the 3rd. In the 3rd Period, things were a bit wild with the shots being 25-15 in favour of the Iron Eagles. Stockholm's Brian Schmigel took a penalty halfway through the period, and Vasteras' Alessandro Nano fired one home on the PP to tie this game at 3-3. Just 14 seconds later though, Zach Kisslinger II delivered a dagger to give the Vikings a lead again, and that would hold until the end of the game. Stockholm's Em Em Flex saved 37 of 40 shots, giving him 92.5% saves. Xavier Booberry saved 45 of 49 (91.8%), but that just wasn't enough, and Vikings won 4-3.
  16. Hey, man. We need to see some more effort here. Your past graphics including this one, this is nothing more than a logo placement and a colour edit. We need to see improvement on effort if you're going to be posting graphics week to week.
  17. The Vasteras Iron Eagles have been struggling as of late, with their 24-22-6 record. While they have been good, it obviously has not been good enough, because they've fallen in the standings. Currently 5th in a 6 team VHLE league, this is disappointing to Vasteras fans. Of course, anyone can go on a run in the VHLE and gain multiple spots, and that is what happened. The VHLE has so much parity, that the second to last Iron Eagles team is only 8 points behind 1st place. Let's take a look one of their recent games: Vasteras Iron Eagles vs. Istanbul Red Wolves The Iron Eagles got off to a strong start early, where Armani Calamari brought the game to a 1-0 score at 2:54. Shots were 11-10 in the 1st Period, in favour of the Red Wolves. In the 2nd Period, things blew apart a bit. 33 seconds in, Slick Dasher tied the game 1-1 with his 13th of the season for Istanbul. At 7:28, Kyle Peace would score his 27th goal to put the Iron Eagles up 2-1. At 11:30, Julia Waffles would go off for hooking, and Vasteras would capitalize. Saku Kotkakoivu scored his 20th goal on the PP to bring this game to a 3-1 score in favour of the Iron Eagles. Then, late in the period, Armani Calamari made it 4-1 heading into the 3rd. Istanbul went into the 3rd down by 3 goals, despite outshooting Vasteras 16-13. In the 3rd Period, almost at the halfway point at 9:32, Kman would score on the PP to give the Red Wolves some hope, bringing the score to 4-2. Alas, that was all she wrote for the Istanbul Red Wolves, and Kyle Peace would add another marker, making the final score 5-2 for Vasteras. Xavier Booberry came up huge for the Iron Eagles in this one, saving 44 of 46 shots.
  18. Stone Wolski, caught on Wall Street trading stocks in retirement.
  19. 1. Gotta agree with Dooms here. Life In the Fast Lane by The Eagles. 2. My goal song would be Barbie Girl. I want opposing teams to hate it when I score. 3. The amount of 1-1 sims we've had. I think our good memories are ahead of us. 4. Sons of Anarchy. We're an Eagles biker gang, taking down whoever doubts us. 5. I'll take Jax. 6. We're all going skydiving to soar like an eagle.
