  1. In very recent news, the S80 VHL Draft was underway and some top picks were made. Xavier Booberry was the 1st Overall Pick of the draft, going to the Helsinki Titans. At 2nd Overall, Matty Fire went to the Toronto Legion. Many people were curious about the 3rd Overall pick of the Calgary Wranglers, surrounded by 4th and 5th overall picks that were also Toronto's. At 3rd Overall, the Calgary Wranglers ultimately went with C Saku Kotkakoivu, who will be one of their star centermen of the future. Saku had some brief words on being selected 3rd overall. "I mean, Toronto didn't pick me. That's their own fault. I am absolutely pumped to be going to the Calgary Wranglers. My player agency has a history there and I know I will easily be able to find a nice home on that team and city. It also gives me motivation to prove Toronto wrong, and even Helsinki, even though they needed a goalie more. 3rd overall is a nice place to be, and Calgary has one of the best histories in the VHL." - Saku The DollarAndADream Agency has a history with the Calgary Wranglers. Their first player, Travis Boychuk went 8th overall to the Wranglers back in Season 37. Leph Twinger played for Calgary in Season 67 and 68, and Hall of Famer Sebastian Ironside played for Calgary from Season 66 to 68. There is a lot of room here for Saku Kotkakoivu to make his mark in Wranglers history, and even the VHL.

Saku Kotkakoivu Height: 6'3" Weight: 215 lbs Birthplace: Position: C Saku Kotkakoivu, born in Finland, burst onto the scene in Season 78 when he signed a contract in the VHLM with the Mississauga Hounds. In that short 18 game stint at the end of the season, Saku managed to put up 6 goals and 10 assists, for 16 points in 18 games as a newcomer. He was a -9, so he definitely had to work on his defensive game, but Mississauga that season wasn't quite the contender yet that they would become in Season 79. In Season 79, Saku Kotkakoivu was put into the VHLM Dispersal Draft and drafted to the Mexico City Kings. Saku had a very respectable season, putting up 39 goals and 40 assists, for 79 points in a full 72 game season. He even put up 65 hits, and only had 20 PIM on the season. 9 of those 39 goals were also on the power play. The Kings finished 48-17-7 and were one of the top teams in the VHLM. In the playoffs in S79, the Mexico City Kings swept the Philadelphia Reapers in the first round, and went on to face the top seeded Mississauga Hounds. That round was a scary one for Mexico City, where they lost the first 2 games, and wound up down 3-1 in the series. They battled back with 2 huge games, but ultimately lost out in Game 7 by a score of 5-4. Saku Kotkakoivu had 10 points in 11 playoff games. Pros: Shooting: Saku possesses a deadly wrist shot, which shows in his goal scoring stats. His release is very quick and some would compare it to Elias Pettersson in the NHL. It's always difficult for goalies to figure out which way the shot is going. He has been mainly working on his shooting since he came out of the cloning lab, being a mixture of Saku Koivu and Jesperi Kotkaniemi. Skating: Saku has always been a very smooth skater, with strong strides and can outpace his opponents on the ice. It's not hard to spot him when he's on the ice, because comparing his turning and acceleration can almost compare to Connor McDavid. Going the 200ft of the ice, Saku on a good day could beat any other VHLM player last season with his skating abilities. Concentration: Kotkakoivu is always game for hockey. If you give him a goal, he will do 110% to reach that goal, and you cannot steer him away from it. If other players try to get in his face, or annoy him on the ice, he won't have any of it. Saku gets back at agitators by scoring goals, and won't fight back physically. Cons: Physicality: As stated in the last pro, Saku at the moment is not a strong player. He won't be out there hitting guys off the puck, and he could be prone to losing it that way as well. Mind you, there is room for improvement there, but he currently shies away from the physical side of the game. Passing: Currently, Saku has had some arguments with his coaches in the VHLM. He loves to shoot the puck a little too much, but that becomes apparent when you watch his passing abilities. He is a horrible passer, so most of his assists will come from him shooting a puck and his opponent scoring on the rebound. While he has some negatives to his game, there is a lot of room here to improve. Saku has made it known that he will eliminate all of his cons, and turn them into pros. We look forward to the upcoming VHL Draft to see where he lands.
  3. I'm taking these Q's even though I'm already off the team. 1. Should be a good team! Hopefully they can do what my team couldn't last season, and win a championship! 2. I just want to have a good showing, whether that be in the VHL or VHLE. 3. Just go with the flow and make sure people stay active. Activity is the most important in the VHLM. 4. 79 points in 72 games ain't too shabby. 39 goals. Wish I could have hit 40, but 39 is close enough. 5. I've been going through an EDM kick lately and Lost - Gareth Emery Remix by Morgan Page is currently my fav. 6. Honestly, they each have their ups and downs. Sometimes I'm in adventure mode which means I want to drive. Drive to a hike up a mountain is always fun, but if it's a big vacation then I'll fly somewhere.

  8. Saku Ready For Grad With the VHLM Playoffs over and done with and the Miami Marauders winning the Founder's Cup, the experienced players of the league look on to next season. Many players will be up for graduating to the upper leagues, whether that be the new VHLE, or straight from the VHLM to the VHL. It will be interesting to see which players go straight to the big leagues, or if they take the slower route and journey through the new VHLE first. It will be up to players and GM's to decide whether their new draft pick is ready to hit the VHL, or to be patient and keep them down in the VHLE for awhile. Mexico City Kings centerman Saku Kotkakoivu is one of those players who is too good for the VHLM, but has a possibility of skipping over the VHLE to go straight to the pros. Saku had 79 points in 72 games last season in the VHLM, including 39 goals. He also had 10 points in 11 playoff games. While these are not unbelievable numbers like some of the guys on the draft board, he is clearly ready for the next step. ----------------------- ----------------------- "I think I'm definitely ready for the VHL, but if I have to spend a season in the VHLE that is fine with me as well. I have no preference to be honest, and I will leave that decision up to the VHL GM that drafts me. If my GM thinks I'm needed in the VHL, then I will go there, and if not, I'll definitely have some fun in this new VHLE. I think it is well known that I'll go with the flow for whatever my GM wants, so I am ready for anything." - Saku Kotkakoivu The big drafts are coming up in the league, and many players have favourited teams they would love to be drafted to, but not Saku. Here's what he has to say: "Well, I think it's probably known that my player agency has connections to many teams throughout the VHLE and VHL, so some people might think I have somewhere I would prefer to go. That's not the case. I'll go anywhere, and I'll play for any team. Whoever drafts me will get the same effort out of me than any other team. Whether you're a bottom feeder, or a playoff team already, I am going to give it my all. Whether I am getting top minutes right away, or more of a depth rookie to start, I will do the same as well. I've been to many cities and my favourite place no matter where I am is the ice rink." - Saku Kotkakoivu It will be interesting to see where a player like Saku Kotkakoivu lands in the drafts. Is he a top 3 pick, or somewhere lower? "I don't care where I get drafted. I can be at the bottom of the board for all I care. Just know that if you don't draft me, that's your own fault.   11. Kotkakoivu: Junior Review When you hear the name Saku Kotkakoivu, it might sound familiar, and there is a reason for that. This player was created in a lab, much like Hulk Hogan 2. With the DNA of Montreal Canadien NHL legend Saku Koivu and ex-Canadien Jesperi Kotkaniemi, these two players were blended together to create one all-powerful being. Saku Kotkakoivu brings forward Koivu's age old wisdom and hockey senses with skill of NHL's past, and then Kotkaniemi's speed and skill from today's NHL. The scientists in the lab wanted him to be able to be rough and tough though, so he was created to be much larger than Koivu and Kotkaniemi before him. They cloned him into a 6'3", 215 pound, large centerman, capable to delivering the hits while also having immense skill. Adopted by Saku Koivu over in Finland and cloned to be a 14 year old, Saku Kotkakoivu was thrown straight into hockey to prove his worth. ------------------------------- ------------------------------- Going into the high school scene at 14, Saku Kotkakoivu dominated his age group in Finland, and was quickly promoted to the age above him. This was obviously not enough either, because he blew through those kids also, and went on to win every award you could name over in high school hockey in Finland. His high school classmates actually held a petition for him to win goalie of the year, because he kept the puck on the other side of the rink for so long, that his goaltender did not have to do his job very often. Kotkakoivu had a knack for keeping the puck on a string and not letting it go when he's on the ice, not until the puck ended up in the opposition's net. One might say he was much like Wayne Gretzky at a young age in Canada, dominating minor hockey and scoring at least 5+ points per game. Things came easy for him over the years through high school, and he quickly gained interest of hockey clubs all over. He was drafted to the Edmonton Oil Kings over in the WHL in the Canadian Hockey League juniors, but that was not the route he would ultimately take. Not only did the CHL and European leagues take interest, but the VHL's minor league saw something in him as well. He signed in S78 and played the latter half of the season for the MIssissauga Hounds in the VHLM, and in that off-season, was drafted to the Mexico City Kings. Interestingly enough, the Kings and Hounds are currently fighting it out in the playoff series. It's going to be fun to watch how Saku Kotkakoivu's career goes once he's drafted to the VHL this next off-season.
  12. Mexico City/Mississauga The Mexico City Kings have been great in the playoffs so far, with a strong showing by Bastian Greiss in net and some great depth all around the lineup. In the Semi Finals, they find themselves faced off against the Mississauga Hounds, who are the favourites for the Founder's Cup with a 56-12-4 record. One might think a match-up between these two teams would be competitive, but the Hounds are firing on all cylinders. I'll start my recap after Game 1, where the Hounds lead the Kings 1-0 in the series. Mexico City Kings vs. Mississauga Hounds, Game 2 In this game, the 1st Period would be even, shots-wise, but Bastian Greiss just couldn't shut the door. At 8:55, Jakub Brozik would score a goal assisted by Baby Bob, and give the Hounds a 1-0 lead. There wouldn't be much action until later in the period, where Sigard Petrenko took a penalty that sent Mexico City to the PP. At 14:56, Deke Rike would score a PP goal, bringing this game to 1-1. It didn't take Mississauga long to answer back though, as they scored 2 quick goals at 16:17 and 18:41, scored by Russell Dixon and Baby Bob. That would give them a 3-1 lead heading into the 2nd. In the 2nd Period, things started to fall apart for Mexico City, where they were outshot 20-5. Russell Dixon scored an early PP goal at 3:38, and not only that, but they then scored a short handed one too, where AJ Williams made it 5-1. Mexico City would answer back though, as they scored two quick ones at the end of the period, with Arthur Kimura and Deke Rike bringing the score to 5-3. In the 3rd Period, Nathaniel Minion scored at 7:29 to make it 6-4. At 8:44, Deke Rike gave the Kings some hope by scoring a shorty a minute after Minion's goal, but ultimately they could not battle back and the Mississauga Hounds won 6-4. With the Hounds outshooting Mexico 42-16, it's hard to win games that way. Mexico City could not capitalize on a back game by goaltender Luke Spinelli. 2-0 series lead for the Hounds. Mississauga Hounds vs. Mexico City Kings, Game 3 This game was a lot more respectable coming from the Kings. Deke Rike would score an early goal just a minute in to bring this game to 1-0. Although at 6:17, Jakub Brozik made it 1-1 and a tie game. Mississauga's Tony Adams would take a penalty and send Mexico City to the PP, where Rhys Trenton would get his 4th and give Mexico City the 2-1 lead heading to the 2nd. In the 2nd Period, it wouldn't be until 10:55 where the action started, and AJ Williams tied the game at 2-2. However, late in the period, Sunrise van de Schubbekuteveen gave the Kings a 3-2 lead, and that score would hold all the way to the end of the game. The 3rd Period was one where Kings goaltender Bastian Greiss shut the door, with the Hounds outshooting Mexico 8-1 in the final frame. Bastian Greiss would save 32 of 34, for a 0.941% and be the story of the game. 2-1 series. Mississauga Hounds vs. Mexico City Kings, Game 4 This game would be a tough battle between the two teams. The Hounds outshot the Kings 18-4 in the 1st Period, but only two goals were scored. Tony Adams gave the Hounds a 1-0 lead, but Mexico City's Deke Rike would score with less than 5 minutes on the clock to even the game at 1-1. Talk about a showing for Bastian Greiss. In the 2nd Period, at 12:53, AJ Williams scored to make it a 2-1 game for the Hounds. Unfortunately for Mexico City, Dookie Headtop went to the box minutes after the goal, and the Hounds then capitalized with Sven Eightnine scoring on the PP, bringing this one to 3-1. Mexico City answered back though, with Deke Rike scoring late and giving Mexico City some hope with a 3-2 scoring heading into the final period. In the 3rd Period, AJ Williams scored just 47 seconds in on the PP, giving Mississauga the 4-2 lead, and a big goal to try and command this series. At 2:09, Mexico City's Flynn Remy scored with a quick answer to bring this one to 4-3. Not only that, but minutes later, Ben Aky tied the game at 4-4, and this one would head to OT. OT was a bit of a dominating period for the Mississauga Hounds. They would outshoot Mexico City 7-0, and Jakub Brozik would score to win it for them with a 5-4 score. Despite being outshot 43-22 overall, Mexico City battled hard in this one, with Bastian Greiss doing all he can, but Mississauga takes a 3-1 lead in the series.

  14. 1. We definitely have a chance to go all the way. We are well balanced and have an elite goaltender. 2. Greiss. Gotta be the goalie. 3. As long as we're all firing on all cylinders, we'll be good to go. 4. Not really. My player is on the Iron Eagles, but I don't know if I'll be in that league yet so I haven't really checked. Cool to see some old teams be back in a league again though. 5. Back to back is huge. 1 or 6. 6. My work's been the same basically the whole way through. Elevator mechanic, and that industry has not changed. You can't shut it down because the world revolves around elevators and escalators in buildings. I've been going out a little bit, seeing friends here and there, seeing family, etc. We'll have to see how things pan out in the near future because numbers are up again. Masks are back, etc.

I wouldn't mind being a big contributor to a title, but if we win, I don't care how we get there.

A Couple of Mexico's Recent Games (a little less relevant as I started writing this on Wednesday) More of the same kind of article from me this time around, but when you're about to go on vacation until the end of the week, sometimes you have to smash out an article. The 44-17-5 Mexico City Kings have been great this season. They've been on winning streaks, had some ups and downs, but never once let a couple of losses deter them. They currently hold the VHLM's 2nd best winning streak right now! That's a whole....2 WINS IN A ROW! The San Diego Marlins have won 4 in a row, and that's pretty damn good for a 29-33-4 team. Here's a look at the City Kings' last games: Mexico City Kings vs. Ottawa Lynx This game was surprisingly very close, and no team dominated play, despite Ottawa being much further down the standings. In the 1st Period, Mexico scored a couple of quick goals. The first was from Watson Stonebridge with his 22nd at the 2:05 mark of the period. Just a minute later at 3:12, Deke Rike scored his 24th, giving the Kings an early 2-0 lead. A bit of a scare for Ottawa, having Mexico score 2 quick ones to start the game. The door was shut the rest of the way for both goalies in the 1st. In the 2nd Period, Lucien Aubert took a penalty which sent Mexico to the PP. Flynn Remy scored on the PP to make it 3-0 Mexico City. The teams went back and forth in this period, but late at the 19:50 mark, Austin Towbaker scored and brought the game to 3-1. In the 3rd Period, Mexico outshot Ottawa 7-2, but both goalies held their own and the game ended 3-1 for Mexico City. Bastian Greiss saved 19 of 20 shots, and Rhys Trenton was the 1st Star with 2 assists. Las Vegas Aces vs. Mexico City Kings This match-up was between a 2nd and 3rd place team in their conference. Vegas is almost 20 points lower, but nonetheless, only 1 seed lower. In the 1st Period, Vegas' Zdeno Chara scored his 34th at the 2:46 mark on the PP, after Ben Aky went to the box. Under a minute later at 3:43, Ben Aky redeemed himself, scoring his 29th goal to tie the game 1-1. 4 minutes later, Sunrise van de Schubbekuteveen scored his 47th to give Mexico City a 2-1 lead heading into the 2nd. In the 2nd Period, things began to unravel. At 8:10 and 8:20, Mexico City scored 2 quick goals by Deke Rike and Arthur Kimura to give themselves a big lead at 4-1. Las Vegas' Caleb Gaudette scored a goal later in the period to bring the game to 4-2, but then Mexico City fired back once again. Arthur Kimura scored a goal 8 seconds after Gaudette's, then Watson Stonebridge scored a late dagger on the PP to bring this game to 6-2 with a commanding lead for the Kings. Lucky for Vegas fans, the 3rd Period was uneventful and the game ended at that score of 6-2. Las Vegas Aces' Anime Protagonist saved 34 of 40 shots for a 0.850% save percentage. Mexico's Bastian Greiss saved 19 of 21 for a 0.905% in saves. Mexico's Arthur Kimura gave him 1st Star of the Game.
  17. 1. With a 42-17-4 record, we've been knocked down to 3rd overall in the VHLM. What do you think we need to do to get up to that top spot? 2. We've recently acquired defenseman Ben Aky from the Ottawa Lynx. What are your thoughts on the trade? 3. If you look at the top 10 in points in the VHLM, there are no Mexico players there, yet we are 3rd overall. Are superstar players overrated? 4. What do you think is the leading factor in Sunrise having 44 goals on the season so far, one of the tops in the league? 5. Mexico players Dookie Headtop and Deagun Rust are both in the top 10 in PIM. Do you think they are much of a liability out there, or are they just standing up for the team? 6. Bastian Greiss has an 89.8% in saves.   19. 1. A matchup against the SHL. VHL vs SHL, with each team's best players. Maybe have anAll-Star team or something from each league represent each other. Maybe run it in EA's NHL....which I think might be a cool way to see their next game. It's going to be a PS5 game and announced on Thursday, so there's some hype there. We'll have to come up with a way to translate the STHS attributes and FHM attributes to EA NHL's, but it's definitely possible. 2. I think it was also suggested, but make jersey numbers official. They don't apply to STHS but we could have official ones on the player pages, and each player page would show a player's previous numbers for what team, and even on their retired page, would show if their number was retired for a team. 3. Mock Drafts, like other leagues. You get partial TPE for each correct answer, like 0.25 or 0.5 TPE per correct pick, with up to a possible 5 TPE or something. SHL has a mock every season. Also, tag me in literally every single TPE opportunity, even VHFL. I miss that one a lot because I don't see the open registry thread until it's too late.
