  1. 1. Just need some consistency. Believe in the W and the sim will answer. 2. Just keep putting the puck on net and putting in the work in practice. 3. I have more jerseys to give to my family that I don't have to put on my credit card. 4. Nasherov has been fuego. 5. Hopefully among the top players in the league. 6. Kotkakoivu colour. Some kind of Wranglers red.
  2. What's happened with the Calgary Wranglers? They started the season 11-1-2, and those were the highs of their season so far. It wasn't long after that where the Calgary Wranglers started to fall apart, and it's a mystery on why that happened. They lost 11 in a row, all in regulation, and of course with that they lost their 1st place spot in the standings and fell out of the playoff picture. As of late, they did just go 5-1-4, so they are starting to gain momentum, but it's a long road to go towards the end of the season. What Calgary Wranglers are we going to get from here on out? They've shown their colours in both winning and losing fashion, so it's a guess for anyone to what happens next. One thing is for sure, and it's that Saku Kotkakoivu believes in this team.... "We have had our ups and downs, but I think when it comes down to it, we're ready to push and have a playoff run. We all believe in ourselves on this team and I don't think a single guy in that locker room has any doubts. We got all our big losing out of the way already [laughs] so I think we're primed to perform how we think we can in this back half of the season." - Saku Teams need to be well balanced in all categories if they are to win it all, and Calgary have the pieces to make that happen. It's just a case of whether or not they can string some games together and have a go at it.
  3. The Calgary Wranglers recently went on a 12 game losing streak, after holding down 1st in the VHL at the beginning of the season. For whatever reason, they dominated early, but fell apart quickly and could not recover for a long time. Although recently, they've strung together some wins and are looking to regain their spot up in the playoff picture. In their last 10 games, they are 5-1-4, and starting to get some momentum. Let's look at a couple games.....which unfortunately tonight goes against my narrative a little bit because they just went 0-1-1. Calgary Wranglers vs. New York Americans 5-4 SOL Despite outshooting NY 18-13, the 1st Period was a quite one where New York scored the only goal. Late at 16:51, Jon Webber scored his 34th of the season to give the Americans the 1-0 lead. Things started to open up in the 2nd Period. In the 2nd Period, Jon Webber scored another goal in the first 6 minutes, which brought the game to 2-0. NY would add another goal at 10:47 by Calvin Hobbes to bring this one to 3-0 before the Calgary Wranglers woke up. At 12:02, Calgary was on the PK but Gustislav Nasherov managed to score a shorthanded goal to get his team within 2, at 3-1. Only a few minutes later at 15:59, Gustislav Nasherov scored another goal to make it 3-2, and Calgary was back in the game. However, with under 2 minutes remaining in the 2nd, Rhynex Entertainment scored for the Americans and recovered their 2 goal lead with a 4-2 score. On to the 3rd we go. The 3rd was all Wranglers, as 1:29 into the period, Rolf Fizzlebeef Jr scored and made it a 4-3 game. The shots in the 3rd were 13-5 for Calgary, and with that, Gustislav Nasherov managed to score a hat trick with his 3rd of the game to tie the game at 4-4, and this one headed to OT. OT would go back and forth, but this was destined for a shootout where Jon Webber won the game for New York. 5-4 (SO). Seattle Bears vs. Calgary Wranglers 6-2 L This one was a bit of a one-sided offensive affair for the Seattle Bears. Calgary's Gustislav Nasherov would open this game early with his 24th of the season, and give the Wranglers the 1-0 lead. However in the last 5 minutes of the 1st Period, Seattle would head to the power play and Gunnar Odinsson would score, tying this game up at 1-1. In the 2nd Period, Justin Lose scored his 35th of the season, 35 seconds in. 2-1 Bears. At 8:46, Nils Tallinder would tie it up at 2-2, and this is where things started to fall apart for the Calgary Wranglers. In the last 5 minutes of the 2nd, the Bears scored twice. Gunnar Odinsson scored his 31st of the season, and soon after that, Calgary went to the box. Seattle's Sigard Petrenko scored on the PP to bring this to a 4-2 game for the Seattle Bears, and the Wranglers were down by 2 heading into the 3rd. In the 3rd, it was all Seattle as well, as at 1:11, Venus Thightrap scored to make it a 5-2 game. Justin Lose would add his 2nd of the game and the Seattle Bears would take this game 6-2.
  4. 1. A well balanced roster and some great goaltending. 2. Probably Phil and Fizzlebeef as the top 2. 3rd is a crapshoot, but likely Tallinder. 3. Decent. I'm a rookie on a great team, so I just hope to be point per game. It's not like some rookies cases with a good rookie on a bad team, so I can't expect tons of points. 4. Honestly, I just mostly copy other people's picks in the other threads and hope for the best. 5. I'm not telling! Maybe they got a lump of coal. 6. Work hard and you will achieve great things.
  5. Calgary Loses 6 in a Row The Calgary Wranglers got off to a hot start, which propelled them straight to 1st in the league early in the season. Unfortunately for them, they've now lost 6 in a row, and these last couple of games took them out of 1st. Let's take a look at some of their recent losses. Warsaw Predators vs. Calgary Wranglers This game was one which at the time looked like a favourite for Calgary to win. The 1st Period saw Calgary outshoot Warsaw 13-9, but it was an uneventful one where it ended 0-0. In the 2nd Period, the Wranglers got a goal after the halfway point from Nils Tallinder, to make the game 1-0, but this is where things started to fall apart. In the last 5 minutes of the 2nd Period, the floodgates opened and the Warsaw Predators would show their offense. At 15:26, Chris Reynolds scored his 19th of the season, and then Calgary proceeded to take some penalties. Lucifer Olivier Leveque got a delay of game penalty, then 37 seconds later, goaltender Sirkants Klamasteris got a slashing penalty, bringing Warsaw to a 5on3 powerplay. Hadrian would score his 8th of the season on the PP, and with 8 seconds left in the period, Brian Moreau scored his 17th to bring this game to a 3-1 score. In the 3rd Period, the Warsaw Predators picked up where they left off and scored 2 goals 8 seconds apart, with Muffbeav and Chicken Wing getting the markers. 5-1 score. At 8:29, Calgary's Nathan Perry would make it less of a clobbering with a goal and a 5-2 score, but Erlantz Jokinen got a hooking call, and Muffbeav capitalized on the PP bringing this game to 6-2. Penalties were obviously an issue in this game for Calgary, but Warsaw outshot them 47-28, so it's hard to blame it on the PK. Warsaw's Andrew Bowman saved 26 of 28. Los Angeles Stars vs. Calgary Wranglers In Calgary's most recent game, this was another problematic one with undisciplined play. In the 1st Period, LA's AJ Williams scored early to make this a 1-0 game. Around the halfway point of the period, Calgary's Nils Tallinder and Phil The Rock Johnson scored 2 quick goals to give Calgary a 2-1 lead. But, at the 14:00 mark, Stars player Jan Hlozek tied the game at 2-2. In the 2nd Period, things started to fall apart a bit for the Wranglers, but not before Gustislav Nasherov made it 3-2 for them at the 9:31 mark. Less than 2 minutes after that 3-2 goal, Tom Eagles would take a goaltender interference penalty and LA would make them pay. Vick Fairchild scored a PP goal, and under a minute later, Joe Madison scored, and all of a sudden this was a 4-3 hockey game for the LA Stars. LA outshot Calgary 21-9 in the period. In the 3rd, it was more undisciplined play for the Calgary Wranglers. Erlantz Jokinen took an interference call early, and Joe Madison scored his 2nd of the game, this time on the PP, to bring this to a 5-3 score. At 12:08, Lucifer Olivier Leveque gave the Wranglers some hope with a 5-4 goal, to bring them within 1. But it was yet another penalty for Calgary, with Tom Eagles getting a boarding call, and LA scoring yet another PP goal. Joe Madison would seal this one with a hat trick goal on the PP, and the game would end 6-4. One this is for sure, and it's that the Calgary Wranglers need to stop taking so many penalties. It's killing them in their recent games.

  7. Saku Kotkakoivu has started off decent in the VHL so far, after some high expectations coming off of a strong VHLE and World Juniors performance. So far in the VHL, Saku has 7 points in 9 games. Within those 7 points are 4 goals and 3 assists, which shows his strong all-around play, and he isn't just a pure goal scorer. On top of those points are his 7 hits and 6 shot blocks. He of course doesn't excel in those areas, but those numbers show that he does not shy away from them. We caught up with Saku Kotkakoivu after practice today to get his thoughts: "While I do like the praise I have gotten for my accomplishments thus far, I don't think I've done enough. I want to be a big contributor out there, and my 7 points aren't showing that so far. I think I am capable of much more, and coach is definitely giving me the minutes to do that. I think I have a lot more offense in me to give, so my current production isn't good enough in my eyes." Well there you have it. Analysts and fans alike should look for Saku to only get better.
  8. The Calgary Wranglers have gotten off to a hot start, boasting a 7-1-1 record. With 5 players have over a point per game pace, their offense is firing on all cylinders and they're looking promising as a possible cup favourite. As for Saku Kotkakoivu, he has gotten off to a start too. I say, "off to a start", because it's neither a hot one or a bad one. Kotkakoivu has 7 points in 9 games, in which 4 of them are goals. That's a pretty good pace for a rookie, but not quite the pace you want if you want that Stolzschweiger Trophy. Saku has a bad start somewhat in his favour, as he has heated up lately while not starting off great. Now that he's been consistent, we look for him to keep producing at a good pace. Let's look at one of his big games, which is a recent one against the DC Dragons. Calgary Wranglers vs. DC Dragons While this game was of course against a 0-9-0 DC Dragons team, it's still good to get production out of your players regardless. This game actually started off with the Dragons coming out hot. Maksim Yakolevsky scored just 24 seconds in, and minutes later, Phil The Rock Johnson took a penalty to send DC to the powerplay, while already down 1-0. The DC Dragons capitalized on that PP, where Miles Johnson scored his 2nd of the season at 5:58, bringing this game to 2-0 DC. Later in the period, Pekko Viitanen took a penalty and send DC right back to the PP. Artair McCloud scored his 4th at 11:42, and just like that, the DC Dragons had a 3-0 lead in the 1st. Late in the period at 19:13, Nils Tallinder scored for Calgary to put some hope in their locker room, ending the 1st Period 3-1. The Calgary Wranglers went into their locker room angry, and it showed in the next period. In the 2nd Period, things would get a little out of hand for DC. 47 seconds into the period, Rolf Fizzlebeef Jr scored his 6th of the season, bringing this to 3-2. Then minutes later, Nathan Perry scored 2 quick goals, and all of a sudden the Calgary Wranglers were up 4-3. Only a minute after those Nathan Perry goals, Saku Kotkakoivu scored his 3rd to bring this to 5-3. Then quickly after that, Tom Eagles scored and this game was 6-3. After a horrible start, the Calgary Wranglers scored 5 goals in the 2nd period to take a commanding 6-3 lead. DC would score in the 3rd, but Saku Kotkakoivu would put another marker in late in the 3rd, and ultimately the Calgary Wranglers would win this one 7-4. Dexter Vaughn saved 30 of 34, and both Rolf Fizzlebeef Jr and Nathan Perry had 4 points to bring this one home for Calgary. Rookie Saku Kotkakoivu had 2 goals. While against a bottom team, this game was still great for the Wranglers. They showed their balanced offense and young talents.
  9. Did you tag me then edit it out? I got a notification but don't see a tag here.
  10. 1. Been working on my puck handling skills as of late. I want to be able to stick handle among the elite in the top league. 2. I played for Europe in the World Jrs and we lost in the finals. Silver is a good finish. Obviously not Gold, but Silver is nothing to be ashamed of. 3. Calgary drafted me, so I trust our GM's drafting skills. 4. It's not always about the TPE. 5. Early 20s, maybe. I'm 30 and I still do all the same things I did 10 years ago. 6. A great team culture and championships along the way.
  11. These captains are my favourite captains of all the captains
  12. Heading into the World Juniors, Saku Kotkakoivu was one of the VHL's top prospects, and will be up in the VHL next season with the Calgary Wranglers. Before that, however, Saku made his way to the World Juniors where he played for Team Europe. Ultimately, Europe made it all the way to the Gold Medal Game and lost, earning Silver. It was a hard fought battle in a 4-2 loss, and Europe has nothing to be ashamed of. Saku Kotkakoivu ended up being the top player in the round robin, with 6 goals and 9 assists, for 15 points in 8 games. He was a top player in most of the individual categories, showing off his skills before he heads over the VHL, after a strong VHLE Championship season as well. His medal round wasn't bad either, where he had 5 points in 2 games while earning Silver. "I tried my best at the World Juniors, and I only have good things to say about my team. Despite silver, I'm proud of what we all did out there on the ice."
  13. Definitely a huge upgrade over the last one. It's going to take some getting used to, seeing as the Reign had that same logo for so long.
  14. 1. I'd probably say Canada. They're very strong. 2. I was in the World Jrs and landed Silver. 3. I think they'll definitely help us compete next season. Should be a fun one. 4. I think it will. Defense helps a ton in the VHL, that's for sure. Goaltending and defense wins championships. 5. Top 5 overall. Top 3 NA. 6. Travel the world for sure. Meet people, spend more time with family, visit amazing beach destinations. Snowboard at every mountain I can.
