  1. A huge goaltending battle in the VHLE just took place between the Rome Gladiators and the Vasteras Iron Eagles. Iron Eagles goaltender Xavier Booberry, and Gladiators goalie Luke Spinelli both just put on a showing.

This game had a ton of shots. In the 1st Period, Braxton Hunter scored for Vasteras, meanwhile Russell Dixon scored for Rome, having a 1-1 tie in the 1st Period. The Rome Gladiators outshot the Vasteras Iron Eagles 18-9. In the 2nd Period, there were no goals, despite the shots being 18-13 for Rome. In the 3rd Period, Vasteras' Willy Myers scored, then Tyler Steel tied it up at 2-2. Shots were 21-17 in the 3rd Period. In OT, Vasteras outshot Rome 4-1, but this game headed to a shootout, where Xavier Booberry shutout Rome with 3 saves. Hendrix Cobberson gave the Iron Eagles the shootout winner.

Look at those shots, 58 to 43 in favour of the Rome Gladiators....who left in defeat.

The story of this game was obviously Iron Eagles goaltender Xavier Booberry, who saved 56 of 58 shots, for a whopping 0.966% saves. Talk about a monster performance. That's not to say Luke Spinelli's 41 of 43 saves were not great as well, but unfortunately that 0.953% comes in a loss.

    1. Huge wins vs Vancouver last week. Do you think we can catch them in the standings?

    2. What has been your players most memorable moment so far this season?

    3. What is one moment this season that your played would love to take back and have another shot at?

    4. If "ALL OR NOTHING" filmed the Wranglers, what do you think the behind the scenes would be like?

    5. Has your mood ever altered your on ice performance? (Positive or Negative), how did it alter your performance?

    6. Do you get upset when you don't get credit for a play you made?

    1. I fully believe the Wranglers can catch up. All you gotta do is believe.

    2. Getting into the top 10 in some categories in the VHLE and proving myself.

    3. I feel like if I just made a nicer pass or a nicer shot here and there, it could have won us more games.

    4. Wranglers have a very storied history in the VHL. They know when to get silly in the locker room, and when to be serious. You would see both sides of that.

    5. When I'm on the ice, everything off the ice just fades away. The ice is another realm for me.

    6. No. It's not about me. This is a team game.

  3. Vasteras' Recent Games

Well, here's another article of me summarizing a couple of the Vasteras Iron Eagles recent games. The 31-27-6 Iron Eagles, who sit in 4th place with 68 points, but are 3 points behind 3rd place, and 9 points behind 2nd.

VasterasTeamBar.pngVasteras Iron Eagles vs. Istanbul Red Wolves IstanbulTeamBar2.png

This game was a battle between your Iron Eagles, and the last place Istanbul Red Wolves team. The 1st Period was a bit of a crazy one, where the Red Wolves out shot the Iron Eagles 18-8, but the score didn't flow that way. Istanbul's Drakon Zabastovka took a couple of early penalties minutes into the game, and the Iron Eagles capitalized on both. Ryan Vidot scored his 22nd of the season on the PP at 1:13, and then Kyle Peace followed that up by scoring his 34th at 2:11. Vasteras took an early lead, and Drakon Zabastovka had to be feeling that one. Istanbul would battle back, however. At the end of the period, Ryan Li scored his 31st goal, and brought the score to 2-1 heading into the 2nd. In the 2nd Period, Gregory Bates tied the game up early at 1:26, scoring his 21st of the season. Chances were pretty even both ways, but it wasn't until 16:17 that Gregory Bates scored again to give Istanbul the 3-2 lead. In the final minute of the 2nd, Deagun Rust scored his 5th goal of the season, tying this game at 3. The 3rd Period was less exciting than the others. It was uneventful until at 14:23, Kyle Peace scored on the PP on a Kman tripping call. Kman immediately redeemed himself though, where he tied the game up at 4-4 a little over a minute after Kyle Peace's goal. This game then headed to OT, where it only took until 1:23 for Vasteras' Willy Myers to end it with his 31st goal of the season. Both goaltenders, Xavier Booberry and Leroy Johnson had under a .900 save percentage in this game with 38-37 shots.

VasterasTeamBar.pngVasteras Iron Eagles vs. Stockholm VikingsStockholmTeamBar.png

Vasteras' most recent game was against the Stockholm Vikings, who currently hold 1st place in the VHLE. Shaggy Tipton took a penalty just 44 seconds into the game, and Stockholm capitalized on that. Omi Aberg scored his 39th of the season on the PP to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead. At 8:56, Saku Kotkakoivu scored his 26th of the season to tie the game at 1-1. Then 14 seconds later, Shaggy Tipton made up for his earlier penalty by scoring his 30th of the season, to give the Iron Eagles the 2-1 lead. The 2nd Period was complete domination for the Stockholm Vikings, where they outshot the Iron Eagles 20-3. Zach Kisslinger II and Omi Aberg both made those shots worth while, giving Stockholm 2 goals and a 3-2 lead heading into the 3rd. In the 3rd Period, things were a bit wild with the shots being 25-15 in favour of the Iron Eagles. Stockholm's Brian Schmigel took a penalty halfway through the period, and Vasteras' Alessandro Nano fired one home on the PP to tie this game at 3-3. Just 14 seconds later though, Zach Kisslinger II delivered a dagger to give the Vikings a lead again, and that would hold until the end of the game. Stockholm's Em Em Flex saved 37 of 40 shots, giving him 92.5% saves. Xavier Booberry saved 45 of 49 (91.8%), but that just wasn't enough, and Vikings won 4-3.

Hey, man. We need to see some more effort here. Your past graphics including this one, this is nothing more than a logo placement and a colour edit. We need to see improvement on effort if you're going to be posting graphics week to week.

  5. The Vasteras Iron Eagles have been struggling as of late, with their 24-22-6 record. While they have been good, it obviously has not been good enough, because they've fallen in the standings. Currently 5th in a 6 team VHLE league, this is disappointing to Vasteras fans. Of course, anyone can go on a run in the VHLE and gain multiple spots, and that is what happened. The VHLE has so much parity, that the second to last Iron Eagles team is only 8 points behind 1st place.

Let's take a look one of their recent games:

Vasteras Iron Eagles vs. Istanbul Red Wolves

The Iron Eagles got off to a strong start early, where Armani Calamari brought the game to a 1-0 score at 2:54. Shots were 11-10 in the 1st Period, in favour of the Red Wolves. In the 2nd Period, things blew apart a bit. 33 seconds in, Slick Dasher tied the game 1-1 with his 13th of the season for Istanbul. At 7:28, Kyle Peace would score his 27th goal to put the Iron Eagles up 2-1. At 11:30, Julia Waffles would go off for hooking, and Vasteras would capitalize. Saku Kotkakoivu scored his 20th goal on the PP to bring this game to a 3-1 score in favour of the Iron Eagles. Then, late in the period, Armani Calamari made it 4-1 heading into the 3rd. Istanbul went into the 3rd down by 3 goals, despite outshooting Vasteras 16-13. In the 3rd Period, almost at the halfway point at 9:32, Kman would score on the PP to give the Red Wolves some hope, bringing the score to 4-2. Alas, that was all she wrote for the Istanbul Red Wolves, and Kyle Peace would add another marker, making the final score 5-2 for Vasteras. Xavier Booberry came up huge for the Iron Eagles in this one, saving 44 of 46 shots.

    6. We're all going skydiving to soar like an eagle.

  7. The VHLE standings are currently super tight, which is expected of the league. The Vasteras Iron Eagles are 19-13-5, just 2 wins back of the 1st place Stockholm Vikings. Let's take a look at their past game.

Rome Gladiators vs. Vasteras Iron Eagles: Rome 3-2(SO)

This game started off with an early goal by Willy Myers, scoring his 21st of the season at 5:24, with assists to Nano and Kotkakoivu. Penalties went each way, but that was it for the 1st Period, with the Iron Eagles leading 1-0. In the 2nd Period, Vasteras' Armani Calamari doubled their lead with a marker at 9:44, with Nano and Vidot getting the assists. The Iron Eagles led the game 2-0 until the end of the 2nd. In the 3rd Period, the Rome Gladiators found strength and turned it around. Just 26 seconds into the 3rd, Baby Bob scored his 27th of the season, with assists going to Numminen and Singh Nalwa. Under a minute later at 1:02 of the 3rd, Hari Singh Nalwa scored and tied the game at 2-2, with assists to Numminen and Ben Aky. The game would go past OT and into the shootout, the MVP, ROM D3 would score to win the game for the Rome Gladiators. This was a big comeback for the Gladiators, who came back from 2-0. Xavier Booberry tried his best, saving 48 of 50 for the Iron Eagles, but Rome's Tobias Reinhart saved 34 of 36 and killed the shootout to win the game. 3-2 SO for Rome.

"We've gone on a little bit of a slide here, but I know that we're capable of getting out of it. We've shown a lot of fight after losses, so I know for sure that we will get back on track." - Saku Kotkakoivu

    3. We have slipped to 14-10-1....anything we need to change?

    4. If you have watched it...thoughts on the "ALL OR NOTHING" Leafs edition on Amazon? If you haven't watched it...current favorite streaming show?

    5. Who on the Wranglers would you challenge to a Mario Kart game? Do you think you would win?

    6. Who is your favorite non-sport celebrity?

    1. I think I'll have to say wings, but truth be told...I eat nuggets more.

    2. Smoked meat sandwiches.

    3. Just need to spice things up defensively. The team is capable of winning.

    4. I love it, honestly. I know it's a Leafs show, and a lot of people hate it specifically for that, but it's a behind the scenes documentary of an NHL team. I'll watch those all day. Those are always interesting to me.

    5. I would beat anyone in Mario Kart and I will prove it if I have to.

I disagree with this statement as a review can/should be done by anyone on any medium.

Graphics, media, and podcasts are all forms of art that will or will not be appreciated by people of varying interests and skills. Just because I don’t personally make graphics doesn’t mean I can’t have a constructive opinion on how I feel about them, and the same can be said for media or podcasts.

What is important for the reviewer is to make sure that they are offering constructive feedback and not just trying to cash in on cheap TPE.

What is important is for the person who made the art is to understand that not all reviews or opinions matter, as they are merely someone else’s opinion, and a way for people to offer some form of feedback.

I think we should 100% change practice facility to 3 TPE like @STZ mentioned because trivia has really turned into something that only a select few task themselves with finding the answers and then posting them for everyone else.

Trivia should instead be a rolling media with “flashbacks” to events/players that people can read about through VSN.

I don't mind everyone reviewing at all, but sometimes it just doesn't look great.

Sometimes, you get somebody saying great job on a graphic, but then the updaters and I have agreed that the graphic is borderline at passing for TPE. Like, someone who has constantly posted graphics without any improvement or much effort, but then the "review" says it's a great job.

It just sometimes gets confusing if there's a post saying it's awesome from a "review", while in the background they get a DM or a post from updaters or me saying that it's not.

  10. 17 hours ago, v.2 said:

This is why reviews suck because so many half assed ones slip through the cracks, and people see that and then think "hey why should I bother to put in effort if that guy didn't and got approved".  But I guess thats on the updaters.

    Yes.

Reviews need to be constructive. A couple sentences at least, with more than "I like the colours". There's definitely times where a review will say it's good, but I don't agree at all. If people don't understand what goes into graphics and how much effort is required for this or that, then they shouldn't be reviewing graphics.

(I'm sure @Victorwill love this thread.)

I think it's time to get rid of trivia.  While the positives that come from it are teaching members about some of the history/records/HOFers of the league, it's a bit of a cake walk in terms of justifiably earning TPE.  It's known that everyone just "cheats" and waits for the answers to be posted in the discord LRs, with maybe a handful of members doing some actual research and digging for the correct answers each week.  This was very evident about a month ago when practically everyone only earned 1 TPE for an incorrect answer.  Another issue (and I am in no way pinning any blame on Victor or anyone) is that when trivia is late, delayed, or in the off season, members get stuck in 2TPE limbo unsure of when they can earn the final 2 capped on the week.

My suggestions for a replacement include the following:

    - Allow for 4 reviews a week (I personally hate reviews so this is not my #1 fix)

    - Allow for 2 .com's per week, whether its 2 GFX, a graphic and an article, etc.  Whatever adds up to 4 capped .com TPE.

    - To preserve the purpose of trivia, allow members to submit a "History fact" or some "League Lore" for 2 TPE.  Essentially this would be each individual member who does this providing their own trivia style question and answer based on some homework they've done themselves on the forum or portal.

Ultimately I'm just trying to drum up some discussion here and see what some other sentiments toward this are.

To be fair, in my LR we discussed that answer and concluded we had it right. I still believe I had it right even though it was wrong.

  12. Earlier on in the season, analysts around the VHLE talked about the Vasteras Iron Eagles and Saku Kotkakoivu's lack of firepower. He was brought into the team to be a top player in the league, and help power his team to the playoffs and a championship. His early season numbers were very lacking that regard, despite his Vasteras Iron Eagles being a 1st place team in the VHLE.

"I just couldn't seem to find my game early on. I don't know what was happening, but goals were going in, and nobody was scoring off of my passes. Things just weren't going my way. That's not really my focus though, because all I want is to win. When a team brings me in to put up points though, it's definitely disappointing when I don't. It's expected of me." - Saku Kotkakoivu

Don't look now, but Saku Kotkakoivu has surged towards the top of the league in production at this point of the season. Early on, you couldn't find him in any top rankings, but now, he has found himself up there in top positions amongst the best players in the league.

Currently, Saku Kotkakoivu is tied for 5th in the league in points with 34 points, and has been climbing steadily. Not only that, but he is 3rd in assists with 27, only 2 behind Drakon Zabastovka who holds that 1st spot. His plus minus of +7 is also in the top 5 in the league, as is his shorthanded goals....albeit that's only 1 shorthanded goal. The leader has 2.

3.) what do you think sets your team apart from others
4.) tell me something fun about your player

    5.) any crazy team traditions
6.) tell me about your fav player/ bestie on the team

    bonus

    1. What would be the theme song of this team?

    2. Your goal celebration song or if a goalie a big save /shutout anthem!

    3. What has been your favorite memory this season ?

    5. Which character would you be if you were in that tv show or movie?

    6. outlandish team trip is planned where are you going snd what shenanigans are y’all upto?

    7. Who causes the biggest scandal, what did they do?

    1. It means a lot. Seeing this franchise come back and the others like the Cologne Express who have their own dominant VHL era, I think it benefits the league for sure. It gives new members the opportunity to see the histories of what these teams used to be, and to be able to suit up and put that storied jersey on.

    2. It's definitely cool. My first thought is that I want to win that inaugural cup.

    3. I mean, look at us in the standings. We're 1st place with a -8 goal differential. I think that shows that we have a lot of fight in us and that we can bounce back after bad games.

    4. He was created in a lab by combining together Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Saku Koivu.

    5. Is it weird that our hype ups in the locker room pre-game and after scoring goals is to make eagle sounds?

    6. How dare you force me to pick a favourite! I love my whole team. I tell you one thing, it's funny having Booberry in net. When he makes big saves, the crowd goes, "BOOOOO!!!". They cheer him with boos.

  14. The VHLE has started its very first season ever, and all teams are underway. Some players have been very impressive, and some lacking in areas they were expected to excel in.

The Vasteras Iron Eagles, back in the VHLE after a long departure from the VHL, have started off the season 6-3-1. This leaves them tied with the Istanbul Red Wolves for the top spot in the league, despite having a -7 goal differential. Vasteras will definitely need to improve on that if they want to get consistent and remain up top at the end of the season.

As for one of their players, one of their top picks Saku Kotkakoivu, he's been turning heads, but not in a good way. Fans are turning their heads away from the play when he has the puck. Saku has 2 goals and 7 points, for 9 points in 10 games. That's not outright horrible, but when there's other top players in the VHLE with 20 points already, 9 points is concerning for one of your star players.

"I don't know what's going on right now. I know that I"m much better than this. Maybe I'm just preserving myself for the VHL, subconsciously. I can't explain it. "

I'll approve this one, but try to stay away from the pre-made stuff. ;)
