  1. NEW YORK AMERICANS OFFSEASON PRESS CONFERENCE 1. The Americans surprised the Bears in the first round of the playoffs. Did you expect the team to pull the upset? 2. The VHL draft is right around the corner, who do you think goes 1st overall? 3. Is there a particular prospect you would like the Americans to select in this draft? 4. What are you working on during the offseason? 5. @frescoelmo has recently stepped down from his role as NYA AGM. Say something nice about him. 6. Thad decided to hire McWolf to replace Fresco. How do you think we should haze him?
  2. ffo poppy electronic djent Getting back into a management has been smooth so far. I said I wouldn't do it, but how else am I going to burnout if I don't take multiple jobs. I don't think it was announced publicly, but I'll be helping Thad as his AGM in New York for the foreseeable future, or until there are more GM openings and I can't resist throwing my name in the hat. Although, to be fair, I don't think I'd be the first choice in either leagues, following the last couple seasons during which I dangled between welfare and completely inactive. The commissioners might save me from myself. So yeah, it feels good to be back in the GM corner. I've been hitting some prospects for the upcoming draft this weekend, and I've been looking at the trades that happened in they last couple of days to give me an idea of the value of players right now. It hasn't changed all that much in 5-ish seasons, I'll be alright. Plus I'm just helping Thad, if it goes sideways, we just blame him. Or is he gonna blame me? Was I hired to be a future scapegoat? How dare you, Thad?
  3. Yeah I should have said Kowalski, change my vote
  4. I like that. Gotta time myself tomorrow
  5. I'm in for ESPN or NFL Or Yahoo too I guess I would do free or like 20$
  6. Contraction always sucks, period.
  7. I was VHLM commissioner at that time. The addition of the E made sense, and the numbers backed up a 2 team contraction in the M to go along with it. And the M has actually worked fairly well with 10 teams, so I guess that part of the maths checks out. Minnesota was the easy first pick. There was a time when they were the only European team in the VHLM. They moved to Minnesota to consolidate the M as a North American team. Then moved back to Oslo when we needed to get more teams in Europe again. As for Yukon, I don't remember the exact circumstances. I feel no one in the BOG felt strongly about it being in Yukon, and it had the more generic name and logo that made it easier to relocate without having to completely rebrand. I'm sure a bunch of people would have rather seen the Halifax 21st go away, but that team identity only makes sense in Halifax. If you contract them, you have to get another brand new team for the E. Relocating the Rush was only a matter of picking a new city for it. I may sound happy that they are gone. I'm not actually happy. I just love bringing back the old THERE IS NO RUSH meme, and it's even more relevant now than it ever was, as painful as it may be to some. I guess my whole vibe is that I don't get the obsession with it. I lost the team I associated with when I first joined to. It moved. I got over it. But it feels like the bring back Yukon movement has literally never stopped. It's ok to be sad about it for a bit, but it shouldn't make anyone that miserable.
  8. Just spent 20 games with the Mississauga Hounds. The locker room was pretty relaxed. VLG is a fun guy. I don't think I ever played for any of the other current VHLM GMs. Good luck this upcoming season! D.C. is probably my favourite logo in the league. The colours are good, the design is sharp, even with the space wasted to write the name of the team. We know it's a dragon, you don't have to write it. It's good anyway. I also really like Warsaw, and some of the simplistic ones like New York, Los Angeles. She'd probably like anchovies and pineapple. Together. My whole backstory for her at the moment is that she's probably somewhere between a human and a moth, or a bunch of moths disguised as a human, or just a moth loving girl. Regardless of that, she's a weirdo, rarely talks, awkward socially, it just feels right that you'd find her in the team lodgings, eating a pizza with no sauce, no pepperoni, no cheese, only anchovies and pineapple. --- 1. Do you prefer asking or answering press conference questions and why? 2. How early in your career do you start thinking about what your next player is going to be? 3. Are you more the kind of person that does their point tasks on Monday, or right before the bell tolls on Sunday?
  9. these were the good old days
  10. I miss the VHL All Star Games simmed on EA Sports NHL. If I had more time on my hands, I'd consider doing it, I love creating uniforms in the game, but I'm willing to bet preparing the whole thing for a one-hour stream took tens of hours. I'm not sure I would want to stream the game myself either. So then, why am I even bringing it up? I don't know. Maybe someone who had no idea this was a thing back in the 60s will read this and think "I am a nerd who loves creating teams and jerseys on NHL 23, and I do have tens of hours open in the next couple of weeks". And then VHL All Star Games on NHL would be back. And I wouldn't play in it anyway, because my recent STHS luck as been pisspoor. But you know what, I'm thinking grand here, I'm not just thinking about me, myself and I. I'm thinking about the community and all that jazz. I can't be the only one who loved checking the live stream of the All Star Games. (for fans of good music, really I don't trust people that don't love Thank You Scientist) (ok it's for fans of prog rock with a jazz metal vibe? it's hard to explain, it's not the kind of prog rock I'd recommend to my dad, but I also wouldn't recommend it to my metalhead buddies, it sits somewhere between the two and kind of checks some boxes from both, making it alien for fans of exclusively one of prog rock or prog metal? just go listen to the whole album if you're intrigued. And then the other albums too. Their whole discography goes hard.)
  11. New week, new bullet point list of random things I noted since my return and just general observations about the league. - Are the Prague Phantoms now the only active team without a Continental Cup, now that the London United won this past season? After my time in London, I had a feeling Prague would get one before us. I tried hard, barely even made the playoffs and left the team in a terrible state for my successor. I'm glad @jacobcarson877 was able to turn the ship around and get it done. - What the hell is up with the New York Americans? I don't mean any disrespect to any of their recent GMs, some of them put some great teams together, but it always looks like the team sims like a garbage fire. People on Discord were celebrating them reaching the second round of the playoffs. They haven't won a Continental Cup since I joined 5 years ago, I think. I'm going to guess they hold the longest active championship drought, and it might as well be one of the longest in league history. Fact check me, someone? - I just remembered about the L.A. Stars. They haven't won either, I think. They had some good teams for a bit, it's a shame. Oh well, I guess it's a race between Prague and L.A. to see which doesn't become the last one to win. Or maybe New York beats them to the punch and they don't have the longest cup drought anymore. Or I mean, at this point, Davos probably has a longer drought than Prague, if we consider Prague and L.A.'s droughts starting at the start of their respective history. Maybe Toronto has a longer drought too in that case. And Riga. And a bunch others. All the droughts are longer now that only 1 out of 16 teams win every year. Crazy. - I just don't get the obsession with Groenland. That's the whole point. What's next? Antarctica? Geography nerds. - I don't get the obsession with the Yukon Rush. @BarzalGoat and I have known for over 5 years now that THERE IS NO RUSH. And now they're actually gone. Good. - Despite all the talk about the VHLE being inactive and dead and boring, I'm actually excited to join it next season. More than I was excited to join the VHLM this season, to be honest. The VHLM is more tailored towards first-generation players, for them to slowly learn the ropes. And the VHLE is more built to accomodate the low earners that never got offers in the VHL. The passage through both leagues sometimes feel like a chore for a max earner. The goal is always to get to the VHL quick and make your mark there. But at least the VHLE is somewhat competitive. It's less about the experience. And if the LRs are as dead as they say they are, hey at least I'm getting some one-on-one time with a new GM. - I like the offseason. New hirings in Chicago, gonna be interesting to see who they pick. Lots of interesting candidates have applied. Then there were a couple more people stepping down. Houston I think was one of them. The GM shuffle every offseason is always a fun time. I love seeing who steps up and progresses in their VHL journey. The whole thing usually opens some AGM spots here and there too. Which I might be looking into at some point. Maybe not this season. It'll probably depend what spots open up. I might let myself be tempted by it if it feels like the right fit for me. (Danger Days is the best My Chemical Romance album)
  12. That Warsaw jersey makes me wanna hurl bad
  13. That's cool. SBA is cool. Make sure you join the Junior Showcase Tournament, a tournament setup to give some action to new members while we're approaching the offseason in the actual VHL. Gives us something to do in the meantime.
  14. Welcome in the VHL! What sister league are you coming from?
  15. Why only adjust players starting under 70 if you're taking them to 100?
  16. don't worry, management changed since then (it got worse)

    VHLE: Back to Six

One of them is not like the others
  18. D.C. has one of the best ones for me. Colours are sharp, and the design is both solid and concise. It could have gone off boards real quick, considering the details and the size on a dragon, plus there's the text in there. But overall it's looking clean. I love the colours of Warsaw. I love the minimalistic designs of New York and Los Angeles. The worst right have to be Chicago and Seattle. The bird just looks disjointed on Chicago's, the wings look like they start at the wrong place, and they're not wide enough. Seattle is brown on brown. The shield's shape is bad, the text is bad, most of the bear is bad. The logo could be one of the better ones if it was only the bear head. Are we talking one Asian team in one of the actual leagues, or are we talking a full VHLA? Either way, there has to be a team in Japan, as probably the only Asian country with somewhat of a history when it comes to the international hockey scene. Along with Kazakhstan and Russia if you wanna count them as Asian for the sake of this discussion. Osaka Samurais could be the name. Quick saving, and loading past saves. I wanna be able to test some things out instead of having to commit fully to stuff and realize halfway through that it was a bad idea. Also carrying like a whole life's worth of stuff I found in my pockets could be neat. --- 1. Who is next in line for the job as Chicago Phoenix's GM, and why? 2. What is your endgame in the VHL? What jobs would you like to do, if any? 3. What is your next player's backstory going to be?
  19. Did we need a confirmation?
  20. And your punishment for losing is having to draft Shawn.
  21. Sunset Moth is already leaving her mark on the VHLM, so much that there are rumours floating around that she might want to forego the VHLM Draft and move back to Europe next season. She hasn't exactly been tearing it up, but 10 points, 31 hits and 45 shots blocked is better than most expert predicted the rookie stay-at-home defenseman would get in her first half-season. She seems to think she'd be wasting her time if she played a full season at this level, and would much prefer to join the ranks of the much superior VHLE. There's also the added benefits that it would bring her closer to her home on the Isle of Man. Not that she really has anyone waiting for her there, her only known relative is fellow Mississauga Hound Spanish Moon Moth. Regardless, an extra season close to her former home before she makes the leap to the VHL sounds like it could do only good for Moth's career. (for fans of good music)
