    1. Considering I'm one of those free agents, I'm confident that this benefits our team. We picked up two solid defensive prospects that I believe are going to develop into stars
    2. I'd rather Vegas win more games, Sorry fonzi! But we gotta get those W's
    3. I play a lot of League Of Legends, and I like to get drunk with the boys.
    4. Honestly as of right now our position makes sense, we'll for sure improve in the standings this season though.
    5. I don't unfortunately, I haven't really tried many Polish dishes, but that's sure to change soon.
    6. My go-to dangle would be a between the legs shot or a one hander to the left side.

Out West: Akerström Joins Las Vegas

On the day that Gabriel Akerström declared for the S74 VHL Entry Draft last week, there was immediately a surge of interest from teams interested in acquiring him and adding him to their VHLM rosters. It lead to a lot of discussion between Gabriel and his family, as they needed to sit back and evaluate a number of factors, the biggest of which was the opportunity the team would give him to develop and grow as a player in the season to come. Gabriel took a lot of factors into consideration, including the playing time that the teams would be able to offer him this season, the coaching staff and management group of each team, and perhaps most importantly, each team's culture and attitude toward winning. Gabriel sees a great deal of value in playing for a team that is focused on winning and developing great players to play at the VHL level, and that was perhaps the most important factor he considered in making his decision regarding which VHLM team to sign with for the upcoming season. With that in mind, the clear winner out of the teams that he received an offer from was the Las Vegas Aces.

The Aces made a great impression on Gabriel, being able to outline exactly what it was they could offer him this season in terms of role on the team and guidance through the league setup. The Aces had a spot on their second defensive pairing which Gabriel would be able to step into, and although there had been offers from other teams that would have allowed for him to play on their first pairing, the other aspects of the offer were what sealed the deal for Gabriel, primarily, the opportunity to play as part of a more competitive squad, and the team being one that was not far removed from enjoying recent success. As someone with ambitions to win in the VHL, it meant a great deal for Gabriel to be able to go to a team with a winning culture, and he's excited to be able to take the time to learn from those around the team who've enjoyed some level of success in recent years.

With not much turnaround between him signing his contract with the team and him playing his first games for them, Gabriel has a lot of learning and adjusting to do in a short space of time. He's hopeful that he is capable of adapting to the learning curve quickly, and we'll hopefully see some solid play from the youngster in his first couple of games with the team. There has been some talk that a big factor was being able to play in the city of Las Vegas. For a kid who's spent all of his life so far living in a small town in Sweden, the bright lights of the City of Sin will surely be an alluring prospect, but he'll need to remind himself that the reason he's making his way to Vegas is to play hockey, not to gamble. It's going to be an interesting first season in the league for Gabriel, and he's excited to get started with his new team and make an impact on the ice.

    Onde Sandstrom

    B I R T H D A Y: May 22, 2000
    B I R T H P L A C E: Malmo, Sweden
    H E I G H T: 6'8"
    W E I G H T: 240 lbs
    N U M B E R: 69

Onde Sandstrom is on his sophomore season here in Las Vegas and has been ready to rumble since rejoining the organization after the draft. Last season he was placed on the 4th line in order to get mentored by the senior members of his team. He didn't put much up offensively however he was quite impressive in practices and off ice training. Coaches have had nothing but positive things to say about Onde's desire and work ethic. Onde has been an incredible member off the ice by helping local charities and being apart of a drives to help raise money for diseases. He believes that if he has any sort of attention, he'd love to use it to help the world in some way. His philanthropy is on another level completely.

    T H E     L O W     D O W N

Scoring - His ability to get into the right place at the right time is an art form really. He's done quite well in his limited time on the top lines so far in the VHL. Onde has kept his point per game pace at 1 which is quite great offensively. He's been working on being able to use his strength effectively in order to get to those places quicker and seamlessly. He's a scary prospect to have specially considering his height and weight, he'll be able to bully his way to the net. Also his shot has been praised massively. The fact that he can rip it like Julius Freeman, Jet Jaguar and Hunter Hearst Helmsley makes him such a hot commodity in the upcoming VHL Draft. This alone would rate him higher in this draft class considering he's able to do a lot at his young tender age.

Defense - He has naturally been gifted as a defensive minded player first. In fact, his Head Coach has put him on the defensive pairing for one of the power plays as he has a rocket of a shot. His natural defensive instincts are impeccable which truly adds value to his style of play as well. Especially since he's such a physical player, he's able to finish his checks, win board battles and force mistakes from his opponents which all ends up helping on the offensive zone as well considering he can press defenders efficiently. Onde has also been showing his leadership abilities on the defensive end of the ice. He's been teaching the young players on his team that defense wins championships and wants these young guns to have the right instincts going forward. It's being considered that Onde might switch to defense just due to his frame and size.

    N H L   C O M P A R I S O N

Patrik Laine has been a comparable player for Onde just purely due to his frame and ability to absolutely rip it. Laine is quite famous for his ability to score from the point with a fat slapper. Onde is able to do that as well and occasionally looks for a tip in for his teammates instead of selfishly trying to put it in himself. Onde happens to be a larger unit than Patrik Laine, however he's able to replicate most of his play and I'd say, be better at other phases of the game as well (including celebrations).

Hopefully Worth 6 tpe, I put a few hours into it yesterday to make the color of the boards match what they should while removing the Chase bank logos, and covering up the Lightning logo today took me about 20 minutes, any feedback on how to do it better would be really appreciated. I've always struggled with visual art.

As of now I rank the Ace's in the middle of the pack, there's a lot of potential in their core with young talent that continues to develop. I love goalies, but none have been catching my eye too much this season, however that's subject to change depending on the progression of the season.

To kick this power ranking list off at number one, we have The Miami Marauders in first place in the league with an impressive record of 8-0-1. A nearly perfect record, their only OT loss being to the Minnesota Storm in a tight 3-2 game.I have the Miami Marauders to stay in first place for a large portion of this season. With key players such as, Andre Lebastard, Patrick Laine, and goaltender Bacon, it's no wonder the Marauders have had such a dominating first week of play. With 9 players over 200 tpe and many more barely trailing that amount, their a very deep star powered team. I have no doubts that there's only one possible team that can take their place on this list.
Coming in second on this power ranking list we have The Houston Bulls, with a heavy record of 8-1-0, just trailing Miami by 1 point, I have Houston possibly taking the number one spot in a week or so, depending on unknown factors of course. Houston's only loss so far this season has come from the Las Vegas Ace's, A team that many would only label as a hopeful team and middle of the pack at best. They beat Houston in regulation, 4-3, but don't let this one loss fool you. This Houston team has been incredibly dominate all year long and will most likely to continue to dominate. Their top players include, Riley Knight Gee, Aloe Dear, and goaltender Drew Minot.
This top 5 list wouldn't be any god without another team tied for second place, The Minnesota Storm. A team that like Houston is in second place with a 8-1-0 record and a favorable team to stay at the top of the pack for sure. The Storm have been having just a spectacular season so far, dominating their competition for the most part. Even beating the Miami Marauders in OT. What ever you might have to say about this team, it surely is stacked top heavy with excellent talents such as, jer Lefebvre, Shawn Glade III, and Calvin Harvey between the pipes. They have enough depth to survive in this league, and our top 5 list. If there's one team to look forward to watching, it's the Storm.
Here in fourth place on our list we have, The Ottawa Lynx with a 7-2-1 record on the season. Absolutely a top 5 caliber team, however I don't see this team moving to first place any time soon. I see Ottawa staying in the top 5 for most of this season, but without the depth that they need they may as well kiss first place goodbye. Ottawa is a well rounded team, however they only have 3 players above 200 tpe, if anyone on this top five list might not make it back in a few weeks I'd put my money here. As other teams start to show more promise with player development I don't see Ottawa rising in these power rankings, however their top players are still very talented in their own rights and should be respected. These players include, Alec Volchenkov, Arthur Dayne, and on the blue line, Jiggly Gumballs. Ottawa is a team to watch, with much to prove and everything to lose.
Here for our final spot on my top 5 power rankings I'm going to pick an unprecedented team who may not be 5th in the standings but may very well move up soon. Here at 5th place I have San Diego in my 5th spot. I know they're technically tied for 5th but hear me out. What Saskatoon has, San Diego has but better. San Diego not only plays well against tough opponents but they're also good at beating middle of the pack to lower teams who may usually surprise top teams and steal a game. However you slice it, San Diego is just a great team to watch this year. And has been the bane of another hopeful team rearing to get into this list, the Ace's. The Marlins have great talent such as, John Merrick, Roadkill Steve, and Doug Dimmadome. I feel as though this team will shock the VHLM this year, and maybe possibly kick butt in the playoffs.

    Hometown: Tampa Florida
    Age: 18
    Jersey: 21
Nicholas Sunderbruch is a young player who played for the Flint Bulldogs in Flint Michigan, boasting 45 goals and 55 assists in his last year with the team. Making him a top prospect for the VHLM and a possible elite goal scorer. Nicholas might be a sniper but isn't afraid to drop the gloves with anyone, along with his 100 point senior season he put up 60 penalty minutes. Most of which consisted of fights. Nicholas favors a crash the net play style, and plays a 200 ft game, while he may be a sniper he also fits in as a two way forward. Making him an excellent piece for many teams, and a great future star. Nicholas was signed to the Las Vegas Ace's, and has yet to play his first game but shows much potential. Some would say to keep a look out on a player like this, others think he's a risky move. However you look at it, there is high hopes for this player with much to prove.

NickSunderbruch got a reaction from kesytamm in Sunderbruch's disappointing first two games
After some speculation of whether Nicholas Sunderbruch would turn out to be a big free agent signing by the Las Vegas Ace's, Nicholas has not shown us what GM Spartan saw in him.
However the season is still young and with more development he could turn to be a great asset and a key piece of the team. We asked Nicholas about his performance and this is how the exchange went:
Interviewer: Nicholas, how do you feel about  your first two games in the VHLM?
Nicholas: Well it's definitely tougher than High School hockey that''s for sure, but it's a great experience playing alongside my team.
Interviewer: What do you have to say to the critics saying that you're not good enough for this league?
Nicholas: I'd say that they're dead wrong, we're only four games into the season and I've played two. I may not have performed the way that I would have liked but that's not a reason to count me out yet. I just gotta hit the ice and train harder than ever to prove the critics wrong. Spartan will not regret signing me as a free agent, I'm thankful he gave me a chance and I want to make him proud.

Nicholas put up zero points and only one shot in his first two games as an Ace, with a -1 rating so far. However Nicholas seems optimistic about his future in this league and in the draft. Nicholas was being talked about as being a possible top scorer. He's only played two games and not shown much, however I'm optimistic in his growth and future in this league. Nicholas seems optimistic about it as well, we'll definitely keep an eye out on him this season.

When I was 13 I saw my father again for the first time since I was 7. I didn't know what to think, I mean on one hand I'd be seeing my dad again, on the other I didn't know what to think of him. The man had been in prison for years so I was nervous he wouldn't be the same. I got on my Southwest airlines plane from Tampa Florida to Birmingham Alabama, I spent two hours speaking to the lady sitting next to me. I told her about the situation, she really felt for me she told me that no matter what happened that things tend to work out in the end. I wish I remembered her name, she was super nice to me and that's all I really needed right then. I got off the plane and grabbed my luggage and started looking around for my dad, I eventually found him. I spotted him by his short stature and familiar red hair, I gave him a hug and he hugged back. I was 13 but I was already taller than my old man, I let him know that and he laughed. He hadn't changed, my father wasn't a violent or angry man like a lot of people had told me. He was still the same loving father he had always been, we went back to his home and I spent the summer with him. Meeting new friends, seeing old ones I hadn't seen in years. Going camping, hunting, fishing, just things I can't do here in the city. I don't know if this is one of the memories you were asking about, but it's one that means a lot to me. Happy 13th birthday VHL, here's to many more.

So thats enough of this weeks power rankings with Nick, I'll see you all next week with another power ranking article. Until then, stay minty and stay fresh.

Nicholas Sunderbruch is a left winger from Tampa FL, the sunshine state! Despite there not being much ice where he's from Nicholas has had a very successful High school career when he moved to Flint Michigan and played for the Bulldogs. When he was a freshmen he was already outscoring Seniors, and outskating kids who had been skating their whole lives. Nicholas is quick on his feet and plays a lot like a much taller Martin St.Lois, it's hard to really call him just a sniper because he plays a 200 ft two way game as well. Nicholas is a very versatile player who likes playing a crash the net style game, and has the size to work the boards and behind the net very well. Nicholas went unscouted until his Junior year in Highschool when he was found by mistake. Ever since, Nicholas had been receiving calls left and right from scouts.
Nicholas boasted an outstanding 45 goals in his final season as a Bulldog, and a grand 55 assists. There's no question that his scoring is extensive, but what about his defensive play? Well Nicholas is able to play center on the PK very well, taking faceoffs and knocking opponents off the puck. This young man is absolutely not afraid to get physical where it counts (he also has a very mean right hook). Rating Nicholas is tricky though, because some might say he didn't face enough challenges as a bulldog, and only started playing Hockey in high school. Some would say the difficulty bar is a little lower there than in many other schools, especially being an American player. However these concerns are superficial at best, because Nicholas has a slap shot of 98mph, with an accuracy not seen in many years. Nicholas was known to shatter glass in his high school games when he missed the net. I wouldn't want to be on the other side of his slapshot for sure.
What can be said about his locker room chemistry? Nicholas enjoys playing light hearted pranks on his teammates during practice, including putting water in players gloves. Or putting glitter in their helmets. Harmless pranks, that many laugh at. He's also known to buy his line mates dinner after especially good performances. Nicholas says he enjoys playing with people of any background and is always excited to see new faces in the locker room. Nicholas
It's hard to say how we'd rank Nicholas in the upcoming draft, but I'd say he should go early first round to mid first round depending on how he develops in the VHLM. Nicholas has great speed with an excellent slap shot, here's a ranking of his skills in our opinion; slapshot A+, wrist shot A, skating A+, defense A-, physical play B, off awareness A-, def awareness B+, fighting B-
we'd have to give Nicholas a A- overall from what we've seen of him in High school, but we'll see how that all plays out this season and how he develops. Is Nicholas VHL ready? Perhaps. Is Nicholas a star player? Possibly. Is Nicholas a player to be watched? Absolutely. We look forward to his long career in the VHL. And now for my personal opinion of this player; I think he's going to shock the world with his skill, some might not see it yet but I know that he will do great things in this league, and in his future. Until next time, I hope you all have enjoyed this junior review featuring Nicholas Sunderbruch, the next great thing in hockey.

Tonight at around 10pm EST top free agent Nicholas Sunderbruch signed a contract with the Ace's. Few would deny that this is a power move that GM Spartan is making. Some would say signing an unproven prospect this early in the year could be risky, but risk is part of the Vegas lifestyle. When asked about his new contract all Nicholas had to say was, "I'm excited to be playing with this team, the Ace's are a team that some might sleep on however I will not. I'm feeling lucky". Nicholas is a left winger from Tampa Florida, not a place where many people envision a star player to come from. Nicholas moved around a lot, gaining recognition from his time playing with his high school team in Flint Michigan, where he lead his team in scoring putting up an incredible 45 goals and 55 assists. Not much is known about this rookie, but we hope to gain more knowledge of him and his play style from future interviews and his rookie profile. When asked about this signing GM Spartan said "We just acquired and eager winger who has displayed flashes of extremely high skill and potential in his past. We're very excited to have signed Nicholas to the team, and we can't wait to see him on the ice with the rest of his team!" Time will tell how this young star develops, does he become a top line player? Does he become a first round draft pick? Or does he become a bust? Only time can tell, but we will absolutely keep an eye on this young star.

    1. Honestly I feel like anyone in the locker room would fit on my line, their all good guys and I look forward to playing with them
    2. I say spartan is a 4ish, he's as normal as someone can get from what i can tell so far but I can tell he can get weird, and I like that in a coach.
    3. Vegas is a beautiful city, and playing here is an experience for sure, I'm adjusting very well.
    4. My definition of winning is having more goals than the other team, we just wanna go out there and play a tight physical game, get the puck on the boards and win those net battles.
    5. My hot take? Well I think some underdogs might actually come in and do what we told we couldn't.
    6. You hold that dump in, hell go in your pants if you have to. Every win is important, and on the first line your job is to make sure you seal the game away.
