    Analysis

    Well, this one sure came out of the left field. For whatever reason, the endless rebuild of the HC Davos Dynamo is delayed for yet another season as the Toronto Legion stake claim to the better part of yet another "BPA Draft" from Shawn Glade. Yet another Davos draft vanishes into thin air, but the Dynamo receive a plethora of draft picks and a cold, depreciating body to be on the receiving end of another long and painful season. The crown jewel of the move for Glade is the acquisition of Toronto's first-round pick in Season 72, which stands a good chance of being a lottery pick. However, acquiring picks has never been the issue for Davos: capitalizing on them has been. As Glade himself admitted following the trade, it was evident that Davos was not a favourable destination to some of the outgoing prospects. One person has the ability to change this, and that is Glade himself. It will take time, devotion and a plan to change this dismal culture in Davos, and I'm not so sure that Glade has the ability to do that and fully capitalize on the bounty this trade brings.

    However, on the other end, the new Toronto General Manager Peace has shown a clear desire to rebuild the Legion. The Season 70 VHL Entry Draft marked the first time since Season 63 that Toronto has made a selection in the first round. They now add to that by adding what is, in my opinion, a very good group of prospects. Chad Magnum is VHL-ready, possesses a wicked shot, a winning pedigree and could prove to be a team leader. Jaxx Hextall is a hidden gem at goaltender and with another year in the VHLM, will be ready to man the crease in Toronto and become a franchise goaltender. Damien Wolfe and Kristopher McDagg are two prospects that have room to improve, but if they continue to update and remain active, they'll be contributors to the Legion before we know it. Peace has paid a steep price for this core, but to me, the difference is that there is actually a plan in place in Toronto. This young group is the first step towards a rebuilt Toronto Legion, but can the same be said about the Season 72 Toronto 1st for Davos?

    Get-to-Know the Players

    Teagan Glover

    The Season 65 draftee originally went to Riga, but instead found himself playing for the expansion Malmo Nighthawks. As a rookie in Season 66, he put up an impressive 71 points, bit followed it up with just 33 in Season 67. Traded to Toronto before Season 68, he recaptured his magic, scoring 34 goals en route to a 72 point season and his first trip to the playoffs, where he tacked on another six. But, just as in Malmo, his production again dropped off, scoring 49 points in Season 69 (nice). Now, he has been sent to Davos, where all things go to die. We're so sorry, Teegan. We truly are.

    Chad Magnum

    Drafted fifth overall courtesy of the "Best Player Available," method of drafting by Davos, Chad Magnum instead finds himself heading to Toronto. He was also drafted by the San Diego Marlins of the VHLM, meaning he will not suit up for either team that drafted him on Saturday night. After playing just under a full season in the VHLM for Mexico City and Yukon, recording 25 points and another one in the playoffs, he will begin his career with the Toronto Legion, as he has eclipsed the 250 TPE mark.

    Damien Wolfe

    Drafted thirteenth overall by the Saskatoon Wild of the VHLM in Season 69 (nice), Wolfe proved to be a valuable contributor to what will surely go down as one of the greatest VHLM teams ever. He put up 46 points on a team loaded with talent, but another 17 points in the playoffs helped solidify the Wild's place in history. BPA determined that he would again go thirteenth overall, this time to Davos. With his work ethic, Wolfe looks to be ready to answer the call for Toronto in Season 71, and until then, he'll be perfecting his game in the VHLM in Philadelphia with the Reapers.

    Jaxx Hextall

    A waiver signing by the Halifax 21st in Season 69 (nice), Jaxx Hextall contributed to the Halifax tradition of finding success with the waiver wire by taking control of the crease. Making 32 appearances, Hextall recorded a .864 save percentage and a 2.94 goals allowed average. After being awarded to Davos via the BPA at ninth overall, Hextall absurdly tumbled to 32nd overall at the VHLM Draft, as multiple VHLM GMs utterly dropped the ball. The Minnesota Storm cashed in, as he will man their crease as he prepares to become the future for Toronto in his native home of Canada.

    Kristopher McDagg

    Originally drafted by Houston in the VHLM, Kristopher McDagg first played back in Season 67. Drafted in Season 68 by the Saskatoon Wild, McDagg scored 51 points, but took a backseat as a member of the famous Season 69 (nice) Wild, dropping to 27 points. He did, however, add seven more during the playoff run that resulted in the Founder's Cup. The BPA selected him 26th overall for Davos in Season 69 (nice), but he now finds himself on track to reach the VHL in Season 71 to assist with Toronto's rebuild. But before that, he will have one last ride with the Saskatoon Wild.

    Took too many penalties in such a pivotal game for us. Even if killed all 7, all that did was kept things close. Best of luck to VAN going forward good fun close series, glad to see my last season as GM we put up a little fight even if we did bow out in the end. Please prevent Seattle from repeating VAN, kthx.

    Anyone who watched the stream already knows but hot damn did it like generating the same number multiple times. 2 people won twice despite having over 100 numbers to choose from. Of course we want the prizes to go to as many people as possible so they didn’t ACTUALLY win twice, I just hit re-draw on the lower tiers. As I mentioned on the stream, if you would prefer a prize in a lower tier than what you have won just let us know and we’ll accommodate that instead. We’ll be getting in touch with all the winners soon to get shipping and stuff sorted out. So, enough talking, who won?

    Tier 1 - $10 VHL Donation x10 winners  - No actual cash value but the equivalent rewards of a normal $10 VHL Donation. You can claim your prize in the regular donation index, just link back to here to show you won.
    @eaglesfan036 @DaftRaincloud @JeffD @Cusemode @Jayrad28 @ROOKIE745 @Grant @PadStack @McWolf @KC15 @GRZ* * I feel bad because I looked at the wrong number and initially announced the winner as GRZ. Considering this prize costs the league nothing I have decided to give it to GRZ as well on account of the confusion.

    Tier 2 - VHL Merch x5 winners - Beaviss can confirm but we were aiming for a $20 value here so I believe this means a VHL T-Shirt. He can also confirm if the designs for every team are ready or if it will be a VHL Logo version. The blue team will be in touch with you about claiming this to get your sizing and shipping information.
    @Sonnet @diamond_ace @Phil @Beaviss @Peace
    Tier 3 - NHL 20 x3 winners - A copy of the latest VHL ripoff EA Sports NHL game for whichever console you’d like. The blue team will be in touch with you about claiming this to get your console choice and shipping information.
    @studentized @Motzaburger @Patrik Tallinder
    Tier 4 - NHL Jersey x1 winner - Finally the big boy. $250 value to a single person. A Jersey of any NHL team and player (or custom) that you’d like. The blue team will be in touch with you about claiming this to get your sizing and shipping information.

    This is when I have time to open this so you guys can have an extra 20 minutes for the final day. I hope you have all enjoyed the 12 days of Christmas. We’re compiling all the claims right now and will hopefully be doing our draws for them tomorrow, at least that’s the plan. Obviously it’s a busy season for everyone but we’ll see what happens.

    As with every day, the updaters would also like me to remind you all to link to your individual post, not the main post, when claiming this. Will make their jobs significantly easier once this hits 4 or 5 pages of claims to check.

    Hey everyone. It's getting close to that time of the season yet again. Both the VHL and VHLM will be concluding their regular seasons tomorrow Sunday the 22nd of December. We normally take a day off, and then the playoffs begin. However because this season is concluding around the time of the Holidays and @Beketov will be out of town to the 26th anyways, we are making the following announcement;

    The S69 VHL and VHLM Playoffs will both be starting on Friday December 27th. Also note that the VHL playoffs will also be live simmed this season, as that is something we have tried to establish as a more regular occurrence for the VHL playoffs.
    Thanks for your time! Have a great holidays everyone.

    Bucky___lastard reacted to Peace in Peace heats up, climbs to point-per-game.
    TORONTO, CANADA -- Rylan Peace's start to the regular season was frustrating for both him and the fans as the top line - despite registering one third of the teams shots before the lines were shuffled - failed to produce any meaningful offense against their opposition, and days removed from announcing his retirement, it almost looked as if the Toronto center had called it quits early in the year and caved into the inevitable... but something changed, but so did the lines.

    Tonn and Glover were swapped, Slade and Scoringsonn were swapped, and it appears to have balanced out Toronto's lineup. They've played more competitively, kept up with teams that defeated them previously, and are excited to continue growing off the building momentum.

    "When we're cold, when we've lost confidence, and we're trying to play the best we can but nothing happens... you lose morale, start to doubt yourself a little bit." Peace admits, who is coming off an exhilarating set of games some would call the shadow of his former self. "I think when everyone is producing, or at least happy with their performance, everything seems a little easier and things I would argue come more naturally. You stop over thinking everything, you stop asking yourself silly questions. You know, 'What did I do wrong on that play, what could I have done differently. Should I have angled my stick more, made a pass when I took a shot?'."

    "I think Toronto has really turned around lately, and I'm hoping the trend continues. We are certainly hoping to build on the momentum we've been building lately and the locker room seems more alive after our two games against the Dragons." Peace added. "If everything goes our way we'll start pulling away and come out on top as division leaders."

    The Toronto Legion faced the D.C Dragons twice today, taking a 3-2 victory over DC in their first game while being defeated 5-3 in the mini-series finale. The Legion out shot the Dragons 34-19 in their 5-3 defeat in Washington, but couldn't come back for the third time after trailing 4-3 entering the final frame of the hockey game. They trailed 2-0 and 3-2 during the game, but managed to tie it up 2-2 and again 3-3 but could never complete the comeback. The Dragons secured the victory on an empty net goal, sealing the Legions fate in game fifty six.

    Anything that promotes more activity from new members is a good thing; in a perfect world with unlimited resources, we’d have a bunch of tournaments like this, because in general, more games=more fun. But I think you need to look at things like this in a sort of cost vs. benefit mindset; what are the labor costs of a tournament that ultimately doesn’t mean much in the long run? Wouldn’t you rather have the simmers and league management focus on getting through the offseason as quick as possible in order to start the next VHL season ASAP (which is ultimately the most important thing)? Organizing these tournaments takes a lot of work, and I personally think the cost outweighs the benefit for this type of tournament.
