New York Americans Press Conference Questions
Plate replied to STZ's topic in Team Press Conferences
1. 28-37-7. Sum up our season using a song or movie title. Forget You. 2. The playoffs have begun! Who is your Continental Cup Champion prediction? No idea who made the playoffs but if Riga made it they have my bet. 3. Have you looked at the names in the upcoming draft? Anyone you know? Haven't looked at the draft class for S75 yet. 4. Does your player have a nickname? If so, what is it? The only hockey name I can think of is Markie. 5. What is your favourite "cheat day" food? Mac n' Chess is the best comfort food. 6. Any early S75 hot takes about your player? 50 point season for Schauer calling it now. -
New York Americans Press Conference Questions

1. Hugh Jass is carrying the team on his back this season. 2. Again, Hugh Jass is carrying the team and he's a great leader in the locker room. 3. Riga gets swepped in the first round of the playoffs. 4. I'm in the top 10 this season for the VHFL so I think I'm happy with my team. 5. I hate the Seattle Bears logo for so many reasons. 6. I haven't gotten used to it and I probably won't for a while. -
I'm putting my hat in the ring for this again. You know who I am, you know what I can do

Nobody is stupid enough to do this. Put all points into leadership and discipline to start. You would have a skater that doesn't hit and stays on the ice longer because of the less PIM - which is almost as bad as taking a penalty because this guy wouldn't do anything on the ice. I kind of wish having leadership + being named a captain in the sim made you better in the clutch moments of the game. Getting the tying goal, an overtime goal, or maybe just a slight stat boost to all your skills within certain parameters. As for discipline, it makes sense giving out less hits. With the stick checking and stuff it almost makes your other skills worse. It's like telling your skater not to do those things because you might take a penalty. Oh, and just to butter the eggroll, after leadership and discipline are done, just toss your points into fighting.

Review How did Yukon lose to Houston. Honestly, sometimes good teams lose to bad teams. Nice to see my former Bulls win a game against the big dogs. I would consider changing the name of the series just because I know we have some younger members on here. Not to harp on your parade. There are better words to use IMO. People are gonna harp on me for this one. This is a hill I'll die on. Other than that it was a great article. Enjoyed the read and I can't wait to see more of it. 9/10 kids are watching

Review RIP to anyone who had Alex Bridges as part of their fantasy draft (including me). Can't wait for that fantasy pick to turn into a bust real quick. It's a good trade on Warsaws part if they can keep the pieces there and make a good selection with the 1st they got. Considering how deep the selections have been, it's possible to get an all-star player from the 11th to 16th pick range. Gotta give it to Warsaw for this one, unless Calgary gets a future HoF with the WAR 1st. It was a little hard to understand what pieces went where at first glance. It would have been better with the use of team emoji's/banners to clearly lay out who went where. It also would have been nice to list each piece from top to bottom in terms of their respective values in the trade. 7/10 Warsaw wins this trade (watch this age well)

Welcome to my season so far! This is just a recap of Markus Schauer's career as of late, so if you don't care about him you won't care about this. I'll be talking about expectations that I have for him. As well as some plans in the future for his development. Thanks for tuning in if you're reading the rest of this! Markus Schauer is an offensive defenseman. This is a player that any team needs. I created him with that in mind. The market for defensemen is always open. And as this is a "sellers market" it's a lot easier to navigate the VHL in your choosing. Not that I plan on leaving New York anytime soon. Being part of the rebuild as a top level prospect is a cool idea for me. It makes earning the continental cup much more fulfilling when that time comes. Until then it's all about staying strong and staying above .500. With my recent involvement in the VHFL I was considering making building him as a player that would rack in fantasy points. Getting high checking, passing, and defense for the points and seeing how popular of a pick he would be. He'll never come close to Hugh Jass, so I don't think he'll ever be picked in that position, but it might turn out to be a steal. Who knows. I know later in my career I will want to play with SirRupertBarnes. That's been the gameplan all along. So when depreciation starts hitting and my value drops off I'll ask to be shipped out to the same team as him. Which isn't a loss to whatever team I'm asking to be traded away from as they've gotten most out of my player already. High level prospects are valued for the amount of time they stay with a team - on top of how good their are for that time. My personal goal for the season was 30 points and 100 shots blocked. I didn't care about shots, maybe get like 200 of those. So far, just over half the season in, I'm at 18 points and 85 shots blocked. I'm very happy with my performance in my rookie season. I don't think I'm in the talks for rookie of the year. It would be nice to get though, and there's a weak case to be made for it. Honestly I don't know how the other rookies are doing. As for ending up in New York, Esso's great. Dlamb is a great AGM and I know him very well from the WJC days. Can't wait to see what they do with the rebuild later on. I hope we can come out of the next few seasons looking like a wagon.

We walked in on Markus Schauer right before practice. Schauer has had a great start to his rookie season. Putting up 11 points and blocking 47 shots. Despite the -5 rating, he's done exceptionally well so far this season. Interviewer "Did you have any goals set for yourself for your first season in the VHL?" Markus Schauer "I just wanted to put up 30 points this season. I've been practicing putting my body out there more and getting pucks on net. The luck just hasn't been with me this season I don't think but the team has been great and I love playing with them. Hugh Jass has been a big help with my game. As long as I can help the team then I've accomplish my goal." Interviewer "What's it like in the big leagues?" Markus Schauer "I mean you're playing the best of the best. It has really opened my eyes to what some guys can do out there. For a while I thought I was the best but coming here has taught me to be humble and appreciate the talent around you. Sometimes you just have to appreciate a nice play - even if it's against you. There isn't much more than that. The maturity in peoples games is what I'm hoping to put myself over the edge and really complete my game."

Review Pavlov is doing well in fantasy so at least you have that going for you. The article is super nice and easy flowing. It seems like you also ordered the list in relation to their completion with Pavlov's career. That's a nice touch and I appreciate it. 1,400 TPE is a lot to spend on a player. Defense is just one of those positions every team can always use more of. Honestly, the only thing that I can say (which is personal preference) would be to end your headers with a period instead of the semi colon. Example, 1. My player did this thing. Now continue on as normal. 10/10 pre-S74 was a bust (jokes)

Recently in the BoG update – that was partnered with VSN – there was mention of improving the existing New York logo and/or relocating the franchise all together. I’m all for this change. It’s a good time to do it as the team is going into a rebuild. My cousin and I SirRupertBarnes play NHL 20 Franchise Mode together and we have created a LOT of teams. It would be cool to see them in the VHL because I genuinely believe they are suitable for the league. With that being said, I’m gonna share some of my favourites. Beantown Beasts Primary Colour: Black Secondary Colour: Green/Grey You can also put Boston Beasts but Beantown is a bit more fitting. It’s a tried city for a hockey team, however it probably isn’t the best idea to fuel the New England/New York rivalry by stealing their team. Maybe not this time for the Beasts, but a team in Boston definitely should be a thing in the VHL. Phoenix Pharaohs Primary Colour: Grey Secondary Colour: Dusty Brown/White This is just one that nobody is going to spell right. I know the colours sound weird. There really isn’t another way to describe what “dusty brown”. I promise that it looks great and the name just rolls off the tongue nicely. It’s definitely got the theme to be a prominent VHL team and it fits the aesthetic that the VHL is trying to push with their modern logos. Anchorage Huskies Primary Colour: Blue Secondary Colours: Black/White A bit of a weird one sending a team to Anchorage from New York. I just want to see a team in Anchorage honestly. It’s cold, got lots of snow, seems like it would be a perfect place to slap a couple hockey rinks. I will admit that Anchorage is a way better VHLM team. So I’m just gonna throw it into the wind and see if it sticks. Oklahoma Stampede Logo: American Deer/Elk/Antelope Primary Colour: Red Secondary Colours: White/Brown This is a team that I absolutely love. Oklahoma has a great emphasis on wildlife and so the stampede fits perfectly into the name. It would be possible to change the animal to the American Bison, as it’s the official animal of the State, and it also stampedes. The primary colour is red – as both a play on words for the term “seeing red”, to match the intensity of a stampede. It also acts as a representation of the passion of the people of Oklahoma. The brown, which would be a lighter colour can act as a very good compliment to the red and white. There’s almost a 100% chance none of these make it into the VHL. Even knowing that, I can’t wait to see the future of the New York Americans. I’m proud to go alongside them with whatever choice is decided by the BoG.

Review Hey buddy. If you need to take a small break then that's totally fine. Burning yourself out and killing your player isn't worth the 12 or so TPE that you'll miss out by taking a break for a week. At the end of the day - this is a league for fun. If you aren't having fun then obviously something isn't working. With that being said, it sounds like you have a lot going on in your life right now. This is a place for you to come and relax. It's like one big family that supports one another. We all understand that things can wear us down, but at the end of the day we're still people. TPE is just a number. Simon T doesn't care about our feelings. You gotta brunt the force and keep your head up. You can do this. I did really like the insight that the article gave. It was formatted nicely. Easy to read and it made a lot of sense. I hope that whatever you're going through, you beat. And moreover continue adding your valuable touch to the league. We thrive when members like you exists. It's because of the time you volunteer to put in that we succeed and have four expansion team seasons. 10/10 if you need to talk I'm here bro.

New York Americans Press Conference Questions
Plate replied to STZ's topic in Team Press Conferences
1. We are 4-4-1 after 9 games at the time of writing, 2nd in the North American Conference. How do you feel about that? I know we lost some good players last off season, but we did get a couple new ones. It's nice seeing Jass step up to the plate in a big role and carry us out this season. 2. Defenseman Hugh Jass has been incredible so far, with 16 points in 9 games. Will he eclipse his 61 points set last year? He's going to be more than a point per game at the end of the season and I couldn't be happier for him. He's a great leader in the locker room and shows it on the ice as well. 3. Do you have any pre-game superstitions? If so, what are they? I always half tie my left skate first, then tie my right skate and finish the left thereafter. I was interrupted one night before a game and we went on a 14 game winning streak in Houston, so I've kept at it ever since. 4. Through 8-ish games for each team, which has been the most surprising start, good or bad? I would say ours. Being a .500 team is nothing special mind you, but that says quite a bit when you consider our position in the American conference. It just means that the top teams in NA are fighting for contention so you never know who's going to win it all. 5. If you could relocate one VHL or VHLM franchise, who would it be, where would they go, and why? I think Yukon has been around quite a bit and could use a facelift. I would move them to a city in Quebec, considering the fact we have a sizeable population from that area in the forums. It would be nice if they had a team in the VHL representing them. 6. Dallas vs Tampa, Stanley Cup on the line. Who are you taking, and in how many games? (DAL leads 1-0) I'm a huge Boston fan so I can't want either of these teams to win. I want Tampa to win more than Dallas - for as long as Seguin is a Star. -

Hi, I Have an Idea? Recently I have been offered a couple of positions as an AGM for some clubs that I'm pretty fond of. Now, I know that AGMs are done on a case by case basis. It's just been on my mind that they're one of the most official positions done unofficially. There is no job pay assigned to them (Unless the GM feels generous and splits his 2 TPE). Sometimes GMs ride the wave solo and don't even hire an assistant. Other times a teams GM could be gone for a few seasons and the AGM is the one taking care of the team. The funny thing is, the way that the VHL does it is almost identical to the way the NHL does it. The NHL also has it at a case by case basis. Some AGMs manage scouting, trades, others might even handle the salary cap and coaching acquisition. It's totally up to whoever the GM is to put their AGM in that position. Rules and responsibilities are handed out depending on whoever the AGM is. With that being said, I'm sure the BoG has thought of literally thousands of ideas to try and better the system to make it a more official position. And I'm certainly not going to sit here and fight for a job to get 1 TPE pay a week because I was thinking of taking the position myself. This is just a public thought piece on my behalf. I've thought about this before even all the way back to S65. It isn't as crazy as the other articles I've done. God forbid you eat corn on the cob without butter, salt and pepper. Responsibility I'm just going to list out the responsibilities of a VHL GM so we can be on the same page here. At least, if you don't agree with me, you know where I'm coming from: Scouting Analytics Salary Cap (VHL) Coaching Team Direction Trades Human Resources The reason why "Salary Cap" is followed by (VHL) is because the VHLM doesn't really have a salary cap. "Coaching" is just being in charge of managing the lines in STHS. Is this anything special? Well, not really. The only thing that I can think of is listing out a bunch of responsibilities as I've done just now. Then the GM can take responsibilities from this list that they want to be filled in the job ad. If the GM doesn't want to deal with the discord drama he doesn't have to - and it's official. You can put the AGM in charge of that now. If the GM only wants to focus on the trades, the scouting and the team direction - they could have their AGM focus on the day to day tasks like doing the lines and analytics. Maintaining the case-by-case nature of the job is important in maintaining it's relevance. This system also brings accountability to the AGM position. Something like this would let AGMs know specifically what they need to do as their job requires it. You could cap out the number of responsibilities an AGM is in charge of. Or if an AGM is in charge of 2-3 of those responsibilities, then you can think about sliding 1 TPE job pay to them. Closing With that being said, I will not be accepting a job as an AGM any time soon. Thank you to those who gave interest in me and I have reached out to you directly to let you know I won't be filling the position. If you're looking to do any job in the league for pay, you're looking for a job for the wrong reasons. Often times the work you do is way more than the job pay you're given. Seeking a job in the league requires a certain passion and patience. It isn't for everyone. That's okay. This is a hobby for fun at the end of the day. 668 words

New York Americans Press Conference Questions
Plate replied to STZ's topic in Team Press Conferences
1. Seattle and Helstinki 2. Obviously not sharing who it is because that ruins the point of having a secret 3. I believe I didn't get any so uh I'm not good at it. Next time I'm going to do the opposite of what I think will happen and get all the points 4. On paper, Luke Thornton fell really far compared to where I would have selected him 5. I'm not in the VHL for awards. If I had to pick for the sake of the question, the most sportsmanlike member on the forums for sure 6. I don't watch the NFL. I only ever watch the Super Bowl and I don't really care who wins -

The Greatest of Finland (Portal Era)
Plate replied to SirRupertBarnes's topic in Archived Media Spots
Review COUSIN NICKO, WANT TO GO BOWLING? I'm reviewing this for TPE so please don't hate me later today when we play the Division. I liked the change from 3F and 2D to 5 skaters. I think it gives a more accurate representation of the players that come from each country. It isn't uncommon to play a winger as a D man for example. There is a severe lack of Finnish flags on this post for being a team about players from Finland, so you might want to put more of those in there. Also, in regards to the headers, I would probaby cut the underline and just make the text to size 20, like so: F - Rauno Palo, 1443 TPE 9/10 Needs more Finnish flags (Or a GIF even) -
Review There should be individual team awards like this for every team imo. This is pretty awesome stuff, and a great way to get the locker room more involved in the post season. Having the entire media spot italicized made it a little tough to read and places that could have been emphasized weren't because of it. Other than that, the headers might have been better if you put them as a bigger font (with the colour change) rather than underlining them. I loved the article though and it was great that Lamb won the Lamb trophy! 7/10 Format needs to be a little cleaner (Loved the pictures)
