  6. Potential ideas for a future theme week. Hi VHL peeps today I am going to be discussing some ideas that I have had for potential theme week ideas. I think the most successful theme weeks lie somewhere between narrow enough that there is consistency between all graphics and media spots/podcasts as well as being broad enough that everyone is also not writing/designing the exact same thing. On top of all of that it has to be somewhat interesting as I believe the idea of the theme week is to create some sort of forum content interaction. Firstly, I think that in the future you could have a theme week that is different between the different types of point task. Like for graphics you could have reverse retro jersey and then for media spots you could have a point task for a trade breakdown. Both of these would be not very exciting in the other point task style but would to me be an interesting read for the media spots and I imagine some cool jersey designs. So without further waffle let me start on some of my ideas, please note that as I am a media spot/podcast guy these will be tailored to these point tasks and it might be difficult to do a graphic on them. 1. FISTED ANALLY BY A CIRCUS MONKEY Who is a player/builder who should have won the award for something or should be a member of the Hall of Fame. Whilst I do think that this could be heated I think that if you place a restriction that you are unable to write this one about yourself/your player than we could get some interesting investigations. Also this to me is one of the easier ones for graphics guys to chip in. You just need to make a signature for someone with an award they didn’t win or chuck Hall of Fame on there. For Example that I could write about Scott Greene being FISTED ANALLY BY A CIRCUS MONKEY for the Hall of Fame as a centre who led the Seattle Bears to four cups and achieved a lot in his 8 seasons. 2. Alternate Reality If your player was to not have gotten into the VHL and played Ice Hockey what would they be doing and how would their life be different. Would they have become a pro in another sport of be a homeless bum. I think this one would be pretty average but it can’t be worse than VHL Vacation. 3. VHL Oscars It is VHL in the movies I think this could go a range of ways. Either if there were to be a remake of famous movies with VHL members/players who would it be and why. If there was to be a VHL movie what would the storyline/plot be and who would feature in the movie. So here are three quick ideas for theme week this season. Which ones would you like to see and which ones should be avoided like the plague. Do you have any other ideas I would love to hear each and everyone of thema.
  7. I feel bad that no one is doing these so I will help you out mate 1. I hope so, it would be a shame to see us fall off 2. Would have to be the Cookie Monster 3. Well we have lost some games so I would have to say we shouldn't lose any 4. I didn't get to do VHFL this season but I am only going to get 1 less TPE this season than I usually do 5. I honestly think it is a toss up between the two greatest teams to exist, LA Kings and Arizona Coyotes who ever wins the matches in Australia will win the cup 6. The return of the almightly LA Stars to the top of the ladder and no longer being a wildcard/cusp team
  8. Here is a quick wrap up of my Players Gustav Mattias and Callum Murray and how they are doing. Gustav Mattias after being drafted 26th overall to the San Diego Marlins has currently played a total of 23 games. During this time he has only scored one goal on 36 shots. However when he scores a goal he make sure it counts the only goal he has scored has been the game winning goal. He has got a total of 6 points though as he has 5 assists during his time. We all know that you can’t just have goal scorers you need to have the playmakers also on the ice. As the Marlins have an absolute killer line up and are currently 2nd overall with a stat line of 19-3-1 with a 40 goal differential, this can even be seen by Gustav Mattias who currently has a +/- of +18. He also isn’t too afraid to throw his body around with 44 hits and has spent 10 minutes in the penalty box. Also we know he doesn’t like defending at all and has managed to block one shot. It seems he must have just been too lazy to get out of the way. His predicted score line will be 3 goals and 15 assists for a total of 18 points. Now moving on over a short 194km journey from San Diego to LA. The Los Angeles Stars home of Australian Callum Murray are also 2nd on the ladder with a record of 17-5-1. Callum is having a slighlty better season than Gustav so far with 6 goals scored on a total of 81 shots as well as 12 assists to round out 18 points in the 23 games played so far. He is also benefiting from being on a good team as he has a +/- of +12 Callum is doing well with 47 hits but only having 45 shot blocks this season. The low shot block numbers could be from a fact that they are playing quite well and have less shots against them therefore there are less to block but who would really know with the limited data from STHS. Callum has sat in the box for a total of 36 mintues this season and from his 6 goals one of them have been a game winner. If we extrapolate out the number of games play to see what his predicted stat lines will look like we see here it would be, 18 Goals – 37 assists for a total of 55 points. This is significantly lower than my estimates at the start of the season of 29 goals 48 assists for a total of 77 points. But the season is still young and there is plenty of time to get those numbers up. So what do you think of Callum Murray and Gustav Mattias, was it time for Callum to hang up the skates or is he going out too early? Is Gustav someone that you will have on your radar for future drafts for example the VHLE and the VHL? Only time will truly tell.

  10. 1) I think that we should do an investigative theme, you have to uncover an issue (real or fake) in the league and solve it 2) I like practice facility pressing that button lights up my world 3) The Jagr because after all the seasons of upgrading an attribute you stay a master of it 4) Scoring and only scoring, no defending for me only goals 5) I would probably have to say Portal 2 6) Would be Berocka Sundqvist lifting the Continental Cup 4 times
  11. Let's have a quick look into the season of both Callum Murray and Gustav Mattias. Firstly Callum Murray. The Los Angeles Stars are currently top of the league, with most experts saying they would be a fringe playoff team this is a great start for the team as a whole. Whilst only being 6 games in though the season is still young and there is plenty of chance for things to go awry. Murray is currently leading the team in shots blocked whilst have 1 goal 4 assists and a +4 to enter the season. Sure he won't win any awards for this he is at least pulling his weight. We know by now that you don't need star players to win cups you just need everyone to pull his Weight. Now let's look at the newbie Gustav Mattias. He is currently at the bottom of the team in points scored for the San Diego Marlins but as he is only just acclimatizing to the league there is plenty of chance for him to make a turnaround. But the Marlins have had an incredible start to the season after ten games they are 9-0-1 with only the one shootout loss there season is looking good.
  12. 1) we just had our first loss but I am extremely happy with our performance so far. 2) I feel like Gustav has had a slow start but hopefully he'll build into something 3) I think this team has the ability to go quite far this season 4) with the start he's had its had to look past Syko 5) I'm not worried about the Spartan curse I'm worried about the Gustav curse 6) I'm a pretty open book but some people still don't know I'm Australian
  13. My predictions for this season for only one of my players. So Callum Murray is entering into his last season he has been a lifer on the Los Angeles Stars but has decided that at the end of this season he will call it quits. Last season Murray for the second time in his career has hit over a point per game. I am hoping that this season he can hit some personal bests. Also this season Murray is going to play with the C on his chest and he does not take this sort of responsibility lightly, he wants to be a strong leader on and off the ice with his team mates. With only 3 defenders currently signed on with the Stars Murray will need to do a lot if he wishes to make it deep into playoffs. My guess for this season is this is how Murray’s stat line will look at the end of the season. Games Played – 72, I am hoping as the captain of the team that I will get to play every game. Goals – 29, Murray has never hit the 30 goal mark and honestly I don’t think he ever will sure he has always worked as a more defensive player but I think this season he might set a personal best with 29. Assists – 48, apart from season 86 Murray has always had assists between 48-51 I think that this season with him scoring more goals his assists might drop a bit. Points – 77, another personal best here as well for Murray. I won’t write anymore as 29 + 48 = 77 +/- - +1, I think that Los Angeles might struggle a bit this season and I am hoping that Murray can hold a positive +/- but I don’t think he will really excel. Shots – 250, The past three seasons Murray has been shooting around the 250 mark so I think it will probably stay pretty similar. Penalty Minutes – 70, I am hoping that in my older age I get a bit more level headed and that I stop taking silly penalties. Especially now being the Captain I am more use to the team on the ice or on the bench rather than in the box by myself. Hits – 100, my hits have bounced around a fair amount each season with last season being my lowest so I don’t have very high hopes for my hits total this season. Shots Blocked – 185, I have only hit over 175 once in my career and I am hoping that with only 3 defenders that I get a fair bit of time on the ice to block some shots. Game Winning Goals – 5, I am hoping to set myself another personal best as my previous high is 4. Hopefully with my heightened scoring will help my game winners Powerplay Goals – 10, Usually I end up around the 10 mark and I think this season won’t change too much. Hopefully I hit this number. Shorthanded Goals – 1, I have never scored a short handed goal in my whole career so I am hoping that I am going to get one eventually. So that is my last season predictions let us see how I do in 72 games time.
  14. Here is an excerpt from my interview with the new player for the San Diego Marlins Gustav Mattias. My lines are in Italics. Gustav's will be in normal font. Please enjoy. What was the reaction of your family and friends when you were drafted? They were beyond excited for me with only just announcing that I was interested in the VHLM a week out of the draft I thought that I would not be on many people’s radars and was hoping that I would go somewhere in the third round. I must admit no-one was really paying much attention to the television until I received a phonecall from San Diego if I would like to go play there. Mum was a little disappointed that I had to go that far away but everyone was happy for me. How did you celebrate after being drafted? We were up all night partying with close family and friends. We made sure we ordered in some fish to well and truly celebrate going to the Marlins. What are your thoughts on the team you were drafted by? Over the moon, they are a very successful team which we all know as they took home the cup last season. The management and team all seem really great and welcoming so there isn’t anywhere else I would rather be drafted. What are your goals for your first season in the VHLM? I want to score at least 30 goals, I love scoring goals and I hope that I can get a few in the back of the net or else it would make me sad. What are your thoughts on the current state of the VHL? I think it is a great league that is in a fantastic spot there are so many teams and people and staff. I personally can’t see any changes that could be made any time soon that would improve it too much. What are your thoughts on the upcoming season? I think that San Diego would have a bit of a tough time repeating the cup win but I am hoping that we can make it to the playoffs and really try and shake things up. What are you most nervous about about playing in the VHLM? I am worried that my lack of defense will be a bit of a tough learning curve for myself I am hoping that we just have enough quality on the blue line that my lack of back checking won’t lead to too many games. What advice would you give to young players who aspire to play in the VHLM? Just get out and give it a go the VHLM scouts are out there and looking for any junior players that would fit in. As long as you show a dedication to the sport and an eagerness to improve I am sure that you could be a late round pick in an upcoming draft. What is your favorite memory from your hockey career so far? There was a playoff match where I was coming back from a calf injury the coach didn’t want to play me to much and only gave me limited minutes. I managed to score a hattrick in the game to win us the game 3-2.
  15. 1. As someone renting where the median house price is about 750k, I would aim to buy a house without a mortgage and then pay off my student debt for myself and my fiancee. Any amount that was left would just be invested and then Life should become a whole lot easier. 2. Probably Voss I know Boom can make a good player and I expect them to get all the points this season. 3. I would give myself the Elmebeck not because I think I deserve it but I just want to have one it at least once. Q1) Seattle Bears took home the first VHL Cup (not endorsed from the VHL at this time) did you follow along with it's process? Q2) What is your favourite off season activity to do on the forum (i.e. predictions, fantasy, etc.) Q3) Do you have a chance of winning an award this season if so what award?
  16. San Diego here we come I have lived in the United States my whole life but I have never been to the west coast. I have been picked in the 3rd round of the VHLM entry draft to the San Diego Marlins I think I could have been picked higher than 26th overall. This however gives me a lot of time to prove to those other teams they should have picked me. Firstly, I would l like to thank Arce for giving me the chance to play in the VHLM and I think the team that he is putting together is a great one and hopefully we can achieve a lot of greatness this season. I am keen to work with other big names of the VHL to make San Diego a great team and hopefully take us far into the playoffs. But I don’t want to be getting ahead of myself too far the season hasn’t started and the draft still isn’t done at the time of writing this. However I want to be a great player and I think that San Diego should be a great starting block for this. So when the Marlins take the ice for their first game look out for me on the ice.

  21. VHCup Bracket Stage Revealed So recently we have done the full group stage and we revealed the final standings so now we need to know what is happening of the 16 teams left standing. So let me explain this as best as I can. Firstly the group stage rankings was set by the following order: 1. Most wins 2. Head to Head record 3. Most Goals scored 4. Best Goal differential Then I put the winners of the even groups on one side and they would play against the second place teams of the odd groups. The reasoning for this is that if the top two teams were in the same group they wouldn’t play again until the Grand Final. I seeded the teams by their goal differential per game, with the best seeded first place team against the worst seeded second placed team, so without further information here is the bracket stage. G1 - Seattle Bears vs Vasteras Iron Eagles G2 - Riga Reign vs Prague Phantoms G3 - Vancouver Wolves vs Malmo Nighthawks G4 - Los Angeles Stars vs London United The other side of the bracket is as follows G5 - New York Americans vs Cologne Express G6 - Moscow Menace vs Geneva Rush G7 - HC Davos Dynamo vs Toronto Legion G8 - Chicago Phoenix vs Calgary Wranglers The following will be the remaining matches G9 – Winner G1 vs Winner G2 G10 – Winner G3 vs Winner G4 G11 – Winner G5 vs Winner G6 G12 – Winner G7 vs Winner G8 G13 – Winner G9 vs Winner G10 G14 – Winner G11 vs Winner G12 G15 – Loser G13 vs Loser G14 G16 – Winner G13 vs Winner G14 The winner of G15 will get 3rd place, the loser of G16 will get 2nd place and the cup winner will be the winner of G16. So here are the games G1 - Seattle Bears 4 vs Vasteras Iron Eagles 1 G2 - Riga Reign 2 vs Prague Phantoms 1 G3 - Vancouver Wolves 3 vs Malmo Nighthawks 0 G4 - Los Angeles Stars 1 vs London United 3 G5 - New York Americans 2 vs Cologne Express 0 G6 - Moscow Menace 2 vs Geneva Rush 1 G7 - HC Davos Dynamo 1 vs Toronto Legion 2 G8 - Chicago Phoenix 1 vs Calgary Wranglers 2 THE QUARTER FINALS G9 – Seattle Bears 3 vs Riga Reign 2 G10 – Vancouver Wolves 1 vs London United 2 G11 – New York Americans 1 vs Moscow Menace 3 G12 – Toronto Legion 1 vs Calgary Wranglers 2 THE SEMI FINALS G13 – Seattle Bears 5 vs London United 2 G14 – Moscow Menace 3 vs Calgary Wranglers 2 MEDAL MATCHES G15 – London United 2 vs Calgary Wranglers 3 G16 – Seattle Bears 3 vs Moscow Menace 2 So congratulations to our winners 3rd Place – Calgary Wranglers 2nd Place – Moscow Menace 1st Place – Seattle Bears
