Yukon Rush Press Conference week ending May 10 2020 1. The Yukon Rush have defeated Saskatoon in 6 games to move on to the second round of the playoffs. Do you think we should have been able to eliminate them sooner? 2. Vin Calia and Alex Armstrong are leading the way early for the Rush during the playoffs. Who else needs to step up in the second round? 3. Ottawa is likely to face San Diego in the second round. Who wins the series and in how many games? 4. Yukon will be facing either Las Vegas or Philadelphia, who would you rather face in the second round? 5. Twitter or Instagram? Why? If neither, then why not? 6. Favourite board game?

There has always been an internal debate amongst GMs about whether or not Assistant GMs are a necessary part of a team. Some think the work load is enough for the GM to handle on his own but others would be lost without there AGM’s. I am a little biased because I am an AGM but I feel we are an absolute need for any VHLM team. The VHL is another story as the workload tends to be a little different. I will focus on the VHLMs need for AGMs in this article. There are a number of tasks required to run a VHLM team such as recruitment, drafting, trading, etc. A lot of these things a GM can do on their own but it’s the extra little things than an AGM does that make the experience better for everyone. Particularly recruitment and being a locker room presence. Recruitment and retention is the name of the game in the VHLM and being able to build relationships and keep players engaged is something any GM can use help in doing. Having that extra person around to help new players and keep a locker room active is invaluable to any GM. I would like to dive into this in more detail in a future media spot but for now I just wanted to share my opinion on the subject. What are your thoughts about having AGMs in the league? I am not only interested in the GMs opinion, I would love to hear what players think about having AGMs in the league. word count: 260

My votes would have been Armstrong 1, Calia 2, Fomba 3. The only reason Armstrong is ahead in my opinion is because he is a Defensemen who put up crazy numbers and did so playing mostly on the second unit as well. Vin Calia had an absolutely incredible season for a 2nd loner and absolutely deserved to be in the conversation

Alex Armstrong - Yukon Rush MVP Recently the Yukon Rush handed out their end of season awards. The awards are handed out based on regular season performances by players on their roster. The MVP trophy is the only award that is actually voted on by the players. This marks the first season the Rush have began handing out awards and the first MVP as voted on by his peers is Alex Armstrong @dylanjj37. Alex signed this past off-season with the Rush as a free agent. The young Rush roster was looking to add to their already studded D-core that included the likes of Zyrok12 and Bo Burrows. Alex liked the opportunity of competing on a team that has a chance to win a championship and with this being is final season it was a no brainer for him. I want to break down the season that was for Alex and shine light on why his team voted him for MVP. The Player Alex Armstrong is well liked among his peers. He has always had a strong presence in the locker room and contributes a lot to the overall activity of the team. He doesn't train as hard as some of the other players but he has put in enough work to be the most dominant defensemen in the VHLM this season. He was FISTED ANALLY BY A CIRCUS MONKEY of a leadership role this season which some think he wasn't to happy about but despite facing adversity he kept a positive attitude and proved the doubters wrong by having one of the best seasons a defensemen has had in the Yukon. The Statistics Armstrong lead all defensemen in points this season in the VHLM. In 72 games played Alex had 127 points. That is 1st in defensemen scoring, 2nd in scoring on the Rush and 6th in scoring amongst all VHLM players. It was a career year for him as he put up career highs in goals (44), assists (83), shots (282) and powerplay goals (20). While he absolutely tore up the VHLM offensively he was equally as impressive on the other end of the ice where he managed a +42 +/- rating, 151 hits and 116 blocked shots. He gave it everything he had each and every night and was the most consistent player on the Rush roster from the beginning of the season right until the very end. In his final season before retirement Alex Armstrong truly saved his best for last. He was a dominant force on the ice but was an even better teammate off the ice. He made a huge impact on this young Rush roster and is a key reason as to why they finished 2nd overall in the standings. If Alex continues to play the way he has all season long then the Rush have a real shot at brining home a championship this season. They have some stiff competition ahead of them with the likes of Ottawa, Minnesota, San Diego and more but with their MVP leading the way anything is possible. Word Count: 502

Yah since the playoffs have started a team can’t sign you as a free agent. So you’ll be selected in the draft and will join a team then. I recommend working on earning TPE in the meantime so you can increase your draft value. I can answer any questions in a DM if you need help. It would be easier if you joined that discord channel then I can chat with you on there and there is lots of members on there who are really helpful!
