Garsh reacted to Spartan in Changes to Depreciation
I have been informed there is no way to currently figure out new depreciation since the depreciation tool on the portal isn't updated yet. So I updated the old hybrid Google Sheet with a tab for depreciation calculations. Go nuts.

    Link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1oyj6T5O-bTH-CumYQR-Fe4oFz6cALWjWaRrGNBxNnrQ/edit?usp=sharing

Example of my own build in the tool:

For the worried aspiring 9-season players, I already have 200 TPE banked for the upcoming regression. Which is already 30 TPE above what depreciation *would* be, and this is without any Jagrs factored in. A Jagr in my 9th season at would save me 67 TPE, so the post regression hit would really just be 285. So 171, 171, 271, 285. Considering you'd be overbanking for each of the first 2 hits, the last 2 are much more manageable. It's really just about making sure your build is 1. efficient and 2. not absurd in spending.

Let me know if there are any questions!

Garsh reacted to aimkin in 6 Months in 1,000 words
So we’re five weeks into Jesse’s rookie season in the VHL and so far so good, I think. Due to work and life I have definitely slowed down in some ways but I am still committed to reading along on Discord and claiming as much of that sweet sweet TPE as possible. Speaking of, Jesse has managed to move from their long standing 7th place among the S85 draft class up to 6th, passing Henry Tucker Jr in TPE. By my calculations it’s still going to take me a few months before I can pass Phil Strasmore so we’ll see how that goes over the next few seasons.

I am still enjoying it here even though my social life on discord has taken a bit of a hit. I am sure there’s a joke or two I have missed in the Moscow LR that Garsh @Garsh  wouldn’t have been surprised to see me suddenly pop in on. I am most active in the Marlins LR since as the AGM I am trying to be there for new players and earn that nonexistent AGM pay. I have managed to actually keep up with giving out Starfish of the Sim but lately due to Thanksgiving and getting engaged, I have had to do multiple days all in one go. But otherwise, I am still enjoying talking to those I do.

Speaking of being an AGM, I really do love my players and how amazing the Marlins are doing this season. Jacob @jacobcarson877 really did an incredible job with the draft and has brought in some really active members since then. Praise be to Simon.

I have also been thinking about what else I want to do in the VHL in terms of content and applying for jobs. For jobs, I have decided that I don’t have the personal time or the consistent energy needed to be a GM. After learning a lot from Shindigs @Shindigs and working alongside Jacob, I think I am a good learner and a good teacher, but I don’t think I would make a good leader. For starters, I work a job that has me working 10 hour days 7 days a week from March 1st to April 15th and I know that I can’t be a GM during that time nor should I go into the job before promptly dumping a month and a half on an AGM. So I think I am comfortable in the AGM position and am happy to help wherever and whenever I can. I also would like to get an updater job when they open up. I am on the site constantly and know it’s something I could check in on a lot. I did also apply for a mod position but nothing has come from that application and since I have only been here six months, I wouldn’t be surprised if I am still too new to really be considered for the job.

In terms of content, I have been thinking of giving podcasting a try. It’s crossed my mind the few times I have been too stuck to write a media spot or when I have no ideas for a graphic. But then I force myself to do one of those two because who wants to listen to me talk about the VHL when I still only know a handful of people. I do have a big interview with Lachlan Summers @kirbithan that I have been meaning to write for VSN but every time I think about working on it either I get busy or I just don’t have the motivation to write it. Which is so sad because I was really looking forward to it and then I just got some brain fog and it was all over. I still have my interview saved so maybe one day I’ll finally be able to sit down and write it. And yes I see the irony of me writing up a 1,000 word media spot right now but when it’s practically a stream of consciousness it makes it easier.

As for Jesse’s performance, I think they’re doing pretty well. I am happy with where I have been applying TPE and I think it’s definitely working. (Thanks Shindigs!) As of writing this, Jesse has a 7-3-1 record with one shutout. Their current save percentage sits at a comfortable 0.923 and their goals against average is 2.43. Compared to the other four backup goalies in the VHL, Jesse has played the second most games behind Thomas Price @Thunderidge (20), has the second highest save percentage behind Sam Tombstone @samthemancub (0.938), and is running middle of the pack in respect to goals against average. For a rookie season, I think it’s going pretty well and I am looking forward to seeing where we end up over the next few weeks. Honestly I feel good about how this is going. It feels good and I think it shows that Jesse is capable of holding their own against the big players. I am also glad and thankful that Dil @Dil is trusting Jesse to get the job done here and there. Earning a starting position is definitely a goal for Jesse and I am looking forward to seeing what I can do with them. I think for my first ever sim league player I’ve got a pretty good handle on it.

I think as far as my first six months in the VHL and my first go around with a sim league, all around it’s going pretty well. I have some consistent cheerleaders behind me and honestly this has been the most fun I have had in an online community in a long time. When people congratulate me on my engagement or wish me well when I post that I’m sick, the responses really feel so genuine and as someone who has been on the internet since before the MySpace days, it’s really refreshing to find such a positive community.

I appreciate you all and I look forward to what the next six months has in store.

Oh and since I’m feeling like a real member of the community now:

Garsh got a reaction from aimkin in San Diego Marlins Press Conference
    1. From 1 to 10, how would you rate your performance so far this season?
    I would rate myself a solid 8/10.

    2. Do you think Simon is pleased with our prayers and offerings?
Well we had our first 0-2 sim today, so no, I think he is displeased with us.  We will need to ramp up the sacrifices offerings.

    3. What are you doing for theme week?
I clicked the pension button as per my usual.

    4. Are we going to be able to hold the top spot in the league?
Yes, there is no doubt we will finish number 1 going into the post season.

    5. In the spirit of theme week, what was/has your first gen season been like?
Gosh that feels so long ago now, way back in season 68.  I joined days before the cutoff for season 70 but I didn't really grasp why it was advised to retire and recreate so I just stuck with it.  I was the last create for the S69 class.

    6. Have you actually been to San Diego?

Oh god, people are going to start thinking this is rigged now as I find myself writing about a player currently playing in the VHL for the second straight article, despite the fact that this was very unlikely to happen given the numbers. So let’s talk Cameron Elsby, the user Spence King’s second player created off the back of the retirement of Spencer Elsby, a player that recorded 1178 TPE, however I’ll save talking about them until episode 942. Through the first half of their build-up to their Season 81 VHL Draft, Elsby was looking like one of the top prospects in the draft and for a good chunk of the lead-up was the fourth highest draftee in TPE. However in the latter half of the period leading up to the draft, their earning fell off a cliff and, prior to the draft fell down to having the 19th highest TPE of the prospects in their draft, so despite the success of their previous player, it wasn’t really a surprise to see Elsby taken with the 25th pick in the VHL Draft. Elsby would spend their first season in the VHLM (after vehemently arguing about being in the VHLE) and had a very good season with the Houston Bulls, winning the top defenseman trophy, before spending the next two seasons in the VHLE and averaging close to a point per game with the Vasteras Iron Eagles.

They then got promoted to the VHL to play for the Los Angeles Stars team that had traded for them back in Elsby’s third post-draft season and got about as much return as you’d expect from a player who just about made it over the VHLE 400 TPE cap with 55 points across two seasons along with a solid number of hits and shot blocks. However, not long after their rookie season, Elsby stopped updating their player and, save for a lone practice facility submission in October, has not updated since the start of July, thus putting any hopes that LA may have had of Elsby progressing into a 700+ TPE defenseman to an end. Leading up to Season 86, they were traded twice in the off-season, being a part of the Davos Dynamo for just two hours before being traded to a Chicago Phoenix team that badly needed defenseman depth. Through 55 games, it looks like Elsby is going to set their personal best for assists in a season and may yet break their best point total in a season, but the latter will likely be just barely broken as they have 23 points in 55 games and would have to get 7 points in 17 games to tie their previous record. However, they do have a positive +/- on a Phoenix team that is sitting very high in the standings as of writing.

So where does Elsby rank in regards to best players in the VHL Portal? Well, I can’t rank them first or second. While their stats aren’t that much worse than either Matthew Kai or Calix Pearce, Elsby did go inactive earlier on in their career than Kai did and Pearce is still active, so someone who has had one update in the last five months can’t really displace them. However their stats are comfortably better than that of Evgeni Shevkov, therefore I place Cameron Elsby as the third best player in the VHL Portal

Garsh reacted to Beketov in 2022 Holiday Celebration
The year is almost over which means it's time for everyone's favourite time of year in the VHL, the holiday celebration! From the charity drive to the auctions to the free TPE everyone loves the holidays in the VHL!

This year, we've chosen The SickKids Foundation for our Canadian side and St. Jude's for our American side. These are, of course just our league-supported charities. As always, you are free to donate your funds to any registered charity anywhere in the world and count it towards the auction and our total numbers; all we ask is a screenshot proving the donation (though please remember to react ay personal information). 100% of the money raised by the league will be donated to the two organizations, and the VHL will not take any cut. On top of that the league has decided to one-up ourselves this year. After our first three charity drives have been huge we've decided to match up to $1000 when the final donation is put in. That means if the league donates $2500 total we'll put the donation up to $3500!

In addition to the Donation Drive, we will also kick off our Charity Auction and 12 Days of Christmas. How will it all work? Essentially the same as past years, but here are the exact details for each portion of our holiday season for 2022:

    Charity Drive: December 11th - 24th
Starting right now, members can begin donating. Whether you do so through the league, by donating HERE, privately to either organization, or any charitable foundation of your choosing (receipt proof required for donations made outside the league), it will all count towards the overall contribution from the league.

From that overall contribution, the league will match donations up to $1000 CAD, and add that to the donations through the league, splitting the total contribution (money donated through the league + the league contribution) equally to both organizations.

Please post all confirmations of donation, including Paypals through the league, auction wins, and private donations to THIS THREAD. Any donation of $5 CAD, or more, will result in an automatic personal reward of 2 Uncapped TPE + a Full Free Week (12 Capped TPE), as well as an entry to each of the first 3 tiers of the 12 Days of Christmas Raffle.

Like last season as well we will be accepting blood donations in the charity drive. Blood is in high demand all year round, but especially at this time. Give the gift of life to someone. If you schedule and follow through with an appointment to donate blood that will count the same as a $5 donation and have the same rewards outlined above and below. For proof just post a photo from during your donation, it doesn’t need to include your face if you don’t want it to, a shot of the machine or your arm or whatever is fine, we’ll take your word for it.

As this is the season of giving, members may also donate on behalf of one other user.

    Holiday Charity Auction: December 13th-20th
@Acydburn will be posting the auction items in the next couple of days but for now the full rules from last season are available here, they will not be changing. Go buy something fun offered up by our community members. Auction wins will count as personal donations for the purpose of individual rewards.

As always there are some amazing auction items that we're looking forward to this year so it should be fun.

    12 Days of Christmas: December 12th - 23rd
This year’s 12 Days of Christmas will be similar to last year’s, where there will be a daily thread to claim “tickets” into our final raffle, which will be drawn on a live stream. For this raffle, there will be 4 tiers of prizes, with each day contributing to your entry into each tier, as follows:

Dec. 12 - 14: Post in the corresponding thread each day for an entry into the Tier 1 raffle (1 ticket gained per day)
Dec. 15 - 17: Post in the corresponding thread each day for an entry into the Tier 2 raffle (1 ticket gained per day)
Dec. 18 - 20: Post in the corresponding thread each day for an entry into the Tier 3 raffle (1 ticket gained per day)
Dec. 21 - 23: Post in the corresponding thread each day for an entry into the Tier 4 raffle (1 ticket gained per day)

    Number of Winners per tier:
    Tier 1: 10 Winners
    Tier 2: 5 Winners
    Tier 3: 3 Winners
    Tier 4: 1 Winner

    Rewards and Donation Milestones
As previously mentioned, there will be personal rewards to those who participate in the charity drive / holiday auction, as well as stretch goals to hit which will result in rewards for the community as a whole!

$500 Community Donations: 2 Uncapped TPE for Everyone + @nurx will give a guided tour of Chattanooga

To go even further with your idea about helping getting player builds started: What if we had something like a couple "Quick-Start" builds for new players.  Like if they just created and looking at applying their starting TPE  there would be something you could click and it would auto apply the TPE?  I'm talking something really simple 1 build for Offense 1 for Defense and 1 for Goalie.  I'm not exactly sure the best way to fit that on the screen but it's something I just thought of and thought it was at least putting out into the world.

There has been a lot of talk generated by @Tate's article over the last 24 hours. I am not here to dispute, refute, or agree(fute - damn my need for alliteration), the article. Rather, I would like to shed some light on why I stay in the VHL, if for no other reason than it's a good topic to give me my sweet TPE.

No Commitments- @Ricer13doesn't need to shit himself here, but there's nothing stopping me from walking away at any point. I am a recent new dad and will some weeks find it difficult to get all my point tasks in. This is a league for recreation and so the vast majority of people will always understand that irl comes first. In my prime, I did a lot for the league. I enjoyed the platform and wanted to give back to the community. I was rewarded by being inducted into the HoF as a builder - by far the bigger honour the league has bestowed on me. But now, I feel like I can just sit back and relax and enjoy the league how I want to.

The Community - whether there are toxic or inattentive members here, I won't comment on, but this is a very large community and it's got some fantastic people in it. I choose who I interact with to enhance my enjoyability from the league. I've been with this league for well over a decade so I have had relationships with some members for a very long time. That definitely keeps me coming back.

The History - 12 (13 now?) years is a long time to be part of something. I have grown up with the league, as the league has with me. I've watched members graduate high school, college, get married, have kids. Even if it's not on a very personal level, I have a deep connection with the league and its members. I try to make the VHL the place I want it to be and see what I want - encouraging, welcoming, compassionate. I try to pay that forward with all my interactions.

Garsh reacted to MubbleFubbles in 2000+ Words On How I Think We Can Help Improve The First-Gen Experience
This table above shows how many first gen players from the range of the given draft classes went on to surpass 200 TPE (E.g. For the top one, there were 203 first gens taken from the Season 63 Draft Class to the Season 71 Draft Class that surpassed 200 TPE in their VHL career). As you can see, we are at our lowest number for quite some time, in fact you would have to go back to the Season 61-Season 69 cycle (drafts that took place in 2018-2019) for a lower first gen over 200 TPE count and that’s only because the Season 61 Draft Class had just two first gens surpass 200 TPE. There are many reasons why we could be experiencing this dip; many people point to Covid sparking a lot of new players joining and engaging in the league in the mid Season 70’s and we also don’t have quite as many avenues for advertisement as we did in the past, due to some irregularities we had in the past with reddit. But the main thing that we should be doing is instead looking at what we can do with the players that we bring in to do our best to make sure they stick around because, from what I can gather from my research, at our current pace that number is more likely to continue going down in the future than it is to go up.

So my first suggestion for helping with this is making the forum site and the portal more accessible for the new VHL user. We have to acknowledge with the scope of our advertising that we are not necessarily going to be recruiting new members to the VHL who are 1) going to be familiar with forum layout or 2) have the patience to stick around and ask how to make a player when they don’t know how to. This is where my first point comes in, we need to make the link to the Create a Player area of the portal catch the eye. As it stands, on the PC version of the website, the only direct link to Create A Player is embedded between several other options at the top of the screen. It’s even worse on mobile where the only direct link to creating a player is hidden behind the sub-menu button. There are two ways that I think you potentially fix this. One is that you amend the Create a Player forum slightly, make it so that clicking on “Create a Player” in the main forum area links you to the Create a Player area of the portal (this is also the method that the SBA use for player creation). The other potential option is making a clickable banner underneath the Create a Player heading that stands out a bit more than “Create a Player” does in the sub-menu, an example of a concept of this can be found below (To point out in advance, there will be quite a few concepts in this piece and that’s what they are, concepts. I’m not saying what I provide is a good banner, but that is where I believe a good banner would be.)

From there, we move on to making the portal more accessible to the new member. This is probably not what the developers of the portal want to hear but for every step we make towards putting items that use to be forum-based onto the portal, more users will dedicate more of their VHL time on the portal, so we need to increase the amount of information about the VHL that the user can pick up on the portal. I’ve already mentioned in the past about how we should have clearer links to important pages rather than burying them under the manage tab, but I’ve got a few more concepts here. One such example would be a tip that the portal would provide to new members about where to apply their TPE upon creation. We have taken routes to combat the amount of people adding small amounts of TPE to every single attribute on creation with the First-Gen reroll, but why not give these players a warning ahead of time that spreading your attributes in that manner is not going to net the best results for your player so that they are better prepared upon creating their player?

Another method of interaction with the user could be to have the Player Management screen display how much capped TPE they’ve earned in a given week and provides a link to a pop-up box that gives a quick breakdown on what other capped TPE tasks are available to them. The example below is what could potentially pop up for a member who submitted for welfare (therefore 4 of 10 rather than 4 of 12) and the second is an example of what the pop-up box could show for a VHL.com graphic.

Finally, a way to potentially help newer users with the VHL Trivia task, the one that is probably the hardest for new members given their recent join date. Why not use the opportunity to link to the VHL Discord so that any struggling user knows where to ask for help with a trivia question?

So those are my proof of concepts as to how to potentially help improve the First-Gens approach to the VHL. I know that the VHL probably want to make moves to add more currently forum based tasks like Fantasy Zone to the portal, but I really think the thing that should take precedence right now is creating a more new-user friendly version of the portal because, while it’s great and the developers have done a lot of terrific work with it, with how much it has grown it needs to evolve beyond the base structure that Will gave it (a subsection of the VHL for you to update your player) to something that can be engaged with by users who may not be familiar with how the VHL works.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Right, that’s the proof of concept power hour out of the way, now to talk about other things that I think will help first-gen retention.

Stop letting people having so many jobs at a time

So this might stand out as a weird topic for helping first-gens, but bear with me on this one. I made a podcast talking about making more jobs PT equivalents and one of my listeners to that podcast was a user called SpicyGecko who, at the time, was a pretty promising first-gen user. After listening to the podcast they sent me a message about how they had a problem with people having so many jobs at once and how it reduces a new members ability to actively contribute to the site or try to improve their standing within the league by showing they can do a job well. Given the timing of the message in combination to their activity, it would not surprise me if this played a role in their eventual inactivity. While I do think there are ways that members can contribute to help the site without holding a job, I think the point they make is a valid one, there really is no reason why, especially when we are arguably at the best point in our league’s history when it comes to the number of personnel at our disposal that could actively help the league, some people are allowed to hold onto so many jobs at one time. I don’t see much of an argument for why a specific member in the VHL should not just be limited to one VHL job (e.g. Commissioner, Updater, etc.) and one GM job. Think about it like the VHLM, we try to encourage the members who are on the cusp of 200 TPE who are thinking of staying down to make the move up to the VHLE instead of sticking around the VHLM at a high capped level, so that they give the opportunity to other newer players to demonstrate that they can be good assets to the league. The same logic should work with jobs, if you get a higher-up/higher-regarded job than you’re currently on, by electing to also keep doing your old job on top of that, you’re effectively taking away an opportunity from someone else who could potentially prove that they can do a job for the league, so you should give up your lesser paid job once you take up your newer job. By all means, let them keep the relevant permissions so they can help contribute here and there if they so want to, but lets give more members the opportunity to contribute to the VHL so that maybe one day they can show what they can bring to the league and potentially rise to the same level in the future to that of the members they inherited their jobs from.

    VHLE Draft Change

I’ve mentioned this idea in other point tasks I think a couple of times now, but we’re talking about things that will help boost the first-gen experience and I think this is one of them. Let me hit you with the least surprising thing you’ll hear today: Members in sim leagues like drafts. But what lessens the draft experience is when you have potentially three draft experiences with 48 hours, with two of said drafts not mattering for at least the next two and a half months. Instead, why not change up the experience so the user can experience a draft that would be immediately relevant to their interests the season after their other drafts to maintain their interest in the VHL for a longer period of time? My idea is to make it so that instead of entering the VHLE Draft in the same season as your VHL Draft, you enter it in the first off-season that you enter having surpassed the 200 TPE VHLE limit, basically limiting the draft to players that have exceeded 200 TPE over the last season. I talked about the other positives of such a move here, here and here if you want to read or listen to more of my thoughts on that.

More Content Focused Towards Newer Members?

So this is one thing that I don’t have a concrete idea for but I’ll bring up the concept of my thought here at least since it’s on my mind. One thing that helps keep newer members attention is seeing themselves acknowledged by their peers on the forum and we’ve had certain things in the VHL in the past that has been geared towards highlighting new members. For example, when I was in the recruitment crew I would run a VHLM Newsletter (unfortunately I can’t find any links to my old pieces since I’m guessing it's now in a hidden forum) that was mainly to give a breakdown of the VHLM and what activities were available that week but I would make sure to give a shoutout to the new members that joined that week. I also did the Draft Rankings (which I’ve kinda just filled since no-one else was doing them as I think they serve a good way of demonstrating to newer members that their earning activities are being noticed) and when STZ was in the recruitment crew, they also offered out graphics to new members of the forum, which is a pretty cool interaction especially given how good STZ’s graphics are. I don’t have anything particularly in mind that could fill that role, but maybe having more pieces of content that focus on members that have just joined would help to boost their activity and engagement with the site further. But this is obviously something that someone could also do off their own back with their graphics/media/podcast (in fact I believe Jardy does shout-out new creates on his podcast on occasion) so it doesn’t necessarily have to be a league job/VSN thing, but more just getting out there that if you want to keep people around, best thing you can do as a member is write about them and tell them how good they are.

Feeling real good about it!  But we can't rest, we started out strong, but we can only get so much better, where as other teams have more room to grow.

    2. What do you think is the key to us continuing the rest of the season like this?
Like I said up above, just keep improving and not getting complacent.

    3. Are you surprised that the defending back to back cup champs are bottom of the league?
Not really, eventually you are just going to run out of juice, every team goes through it.

    4. What team do you think is our biggest rival/threat?
Without checking, I think Ottawa is the team we have had the toughest time with this season.

    5. Are you happy with your player's performance?
Yeah, I think as long as the team is strong I'm happy, even if I don't have big numbers.

    6. How do you eat pizza? (fold, flat, crust first, etc)
I eat it pretty normally I think, but I do often dip it in something.  There is a regional chain around here that has this French Dressing that they make that pairs really well with pizza.

Tried a few things different with this one.

    - Added an inactive column to indicate members that haven't updated in the last 3 weeks (So VHLM definition of inactivity rather than VHL Definition)
    - Added Silver Background to players who are first gens (and by First Gens I mean first player rather than players eligible for First Gen Perks). I was originally going to add it as a column, but was a bit concerned that another column would start to mess the formatting up on certain devices. I think this looks alright, but if anyone has any suggestions for better colours I'd be all ears to them.

Garsh reacted to Beketov in Career Tasks Change 2: Electric Boogaloo
    @Members

A few seasons ago, and by a few I mean like 15 or so I think, we re-worked the career point tasks because league surveys showed that people were interested in having more tasks valued lower rather than 2 large tasks valued higher. People also wanted some extra meaning behind the tasks, themes if you will, since the old Rookie Profile and Bio had become basically the same thing. On the whole this change was well received but the amount that the new tasks have been completed has been, shall we say, lackluster. Despite having full careers come and go within the new system for example not one person (as of when we got our data anyway) had completed a bio. Therefore the @BOG set out to re-tool the career point tasks again to try and hopefully give them a bit more of a spark.

On the whole these changes aren't as large as the last overhaul, more of a tweak than anything else, but should hopefully make the tasks less spread out (since fewer people di the later tasks) and less specialized to specific time periods. Additionally we are adding, for the first time in the VHL, the ability to podcast (10 minute minimum) your career tasks which should hopefully produce a bit of diversity. The lengths and TPE payouts will remain the same and the new tasks will go into effect immediately (more details on that at the bottom of this post). The new task layout is as follows:

As I said, these go into effect immediately so what does that mean for current players? Rather than blocking them until X season like we did (confusingly) last time we have decided to go for the easy route this time. The tasks are open to everyone immediately (the rubrics will be updated soon) with a few small caveats:

    1. If you have not already claimed a bio you can write one any time before the end of your career; you no longer need to wait to your 8th season.
    2. Veteran Presence has been formally removed; therefore if you have not claimed a VP already you can claim a Career Reflection in it's place. If you have claimed a VP then that is considered the same thing and cannot he claimed again.
    3. In the same vein as above, Hello Europe is officially replacing Junior Review. Therefore if you previously completed a Junior Review you are ineligible to complete Hello Europe even if you remain in the VHLE. If you are still within the VHLE and did not claim a JR you may claim Hello Europe.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

Garsh reacted to leandrofg in VSN Presents "An Ice Cream Story", a tale of the S87 Draft Class
Before we go any further down the rabbit hole of the S87 draft class, yes, it was clickbait. Although the draft class of S87 seems one of the sweetest yet, with the likes of Skor, Oreo, and Reese... we might only touch on some of these fantastic prospects.

The first two prospects we will talk about are the two most courageous ones. While it seems like a more normal move made every season by different players... you still have to be brave and sure of your abilities to skip another season in the VHLM to test yourself against the competition in the VHLE.

This year the prospects that decided to jump the M are Skor McFleury and Randy Bobandy and for what these two have in courage, the S87 draft class lack in Goalies.

While we would be ecstatic to continue this article talking about two players from different positions that have decided to stay down in the VHLM... we cannot.

So we randomize as we can. Our featured winger in this article will be a player who shares the name of one of my favorite cookies. No, you don't have to think outside the box... it's Oreo McFleury. Who will replace our goalie? Our first first-gen on the season's list, the long-lost cousin of one of my favorite artists and Pifferfish's best friend, Tyler Swift!

Now... you've gotten this far, so you could know what we will talk about in this article. Therefore, I tell you that we will explore this draft class and these players a little bit. Looking at who they are, what they do best, who could be set to draft them, and what we can expect these players to achieve.

First, as he tops the board at the moment, Skor McFleury. It's been an interesting path so far, to say the least. Skor was highly sought after in Free Agency, with various teams inquiring about the possibility of adding him to their team. In the end, Geneva was the winner, mainly due to the ongoing relationship between the team's leadership and McFleury. What happens next will shock you. A needy VHL team poached Geneva’s General Manager, and with it, Skor's allegiance was too.

During the transition period, the former and new GM of the Rush agreed to a trade that would take Skor to Cologne, one of the teams that actively tried to bring McFleury's talents to the team. We're now a quarter into the season, and the deal panned out as well as it could!

McFleury has played his part on an Express team that has been over-achieving... even if they were one of the favorites at the start of the VHLE season. McFleury is not only proving himself on defense as a reliable piece of the puzzle but has managed to find his place offensively.

It's time to pose the question. Where would be the best fit for Skor in the VHL? Who has the room for an up-and-coming, high-potential defenseman?

    Riga.

Well... that was easy. We all know the history between the Reign and Alex Johnston, and that, without a doubt, will play a part in Skor's future. The Reign is a defenseman-needy team... well, they need help everywhere, to be honest, but Skor would be a great piece to help build the franchise's future. With Daniel Weaver and Henry Tucker Jr. on the team and Sadie St-Louis getting ready to move up, these players could be the core of Latvia's future.

Let's move up (or down, depending on your opinion) and nit-pick Randy Bobandy, our second skipper, who chose the former champions, the Oslo Storm, to call home for the 86th season.

The Norwegian squad is struggling... badly and probably more than they should be. And Bobandy hasn't helped the cause. Buried in the Storm's lines and playing less than 20 minutes per game, Bobandy has lost his touch.

Although the quality is there, Europe hasn't been kind to the Canadian player. In 22 games, Randy accounts for 2 measly points. The projections may not be favorable, but we believe Bobandy could be in line to turn it around.

Now, who will take a chance here? If Skor goes at 1st Overall... is Bobandy number 2 on anybody else's board? Let's dive in.

Tied to Bobandy is AJ Williams... who retired a season early! That will be on every GM's mind. Nobody can take anything away from the quality of AJ, as he was a top player in Seattle. Still, I can't shake this feeling... Bobandy has been having trouble in the VHLE, AJ Williams retired a season early, and Mac Atlas will be there too.

Mac Atlas will be there too... and the Sova legacy lives on, so we could see Bobandy drop. Los Angeles is currently second to last, and Toronto has their pick. This will be the first pick of the Moon era in Toronto, and it's never too bad to have options. We'll have something to look forward to!

Malmo is currently picking at number 3. Malmo will probably choose a center.

Now that we're at 4, we can talk about our next player, Oreo McFleury. I find it delicious to be writing about a subject like this.

But, on a more controversial note, isn't the Oreo McFlurry better with hot chocolate fudge mixed into it? Damn, just thinking about it... 🤤

Back to the point! Oreo McFleury. By now, a Marlins legend, McFleury, was drafted with the 12th selection in this season's VHLM draft. Currently, Top-10 in scoring and is projected to score more than 110 points this season. Of course, playing on a great team like the one in San Diego impacts your numbers, but it can also have the reverse effect since the points are spread across the board.

Oreo has firmly stated his value in the VHLM while showing the signs and potential of his future value in the VHL. This potential will be tied to retiree Nathan Powers, who finished his career without individual accolades, but his quality can't be understated. It shows that if McFleury follows that same path, he could be of extraordinary worth to a VHL team during his future in the league.

Does this mean that Toronto picks him with the 4th overall pick? Maybe. Toronto also needs help on defense, and while Oreo's quality can't be disputed, he's also not the Best Player Available at that point. Jimi Jaks is still rated above McFleury, which could make the decision for Toronto a bit more complex. The Legion could jump on the best Defenseman available, which would mean them taking either David Jokinen or Kronchy Kardashian.

If this happens, McFleury could slide down the board, but no further than the 8th overall selection. Seattle owns both their pick and London's, which now account for 7th and 8th, respectively. Florida Man signed with the Bears this off-season with a two-year contract and a team option on the third. This could give Seattle and McFleury time and flexibility for the player to improve in the VHLE before getting the call to the VHL whenever Florida Man leaves.

Last but not least, Tyler Swift! Our first first-gen on the board, and that still means something! Tyler looks like a solid, welfare-plus player and seems to be a good presence. Because if Tyler wasn't, Philly management wouldn’t have traded a 2nd-rounder plus a 5th to bring him back to Cheesesteak-town.

Things could change, and Tyler could become the earner every VHL GM wants on their team. This level of earnings they're currently at and the presence they seem to have, portray Tyler as a possible late 1st-round steal. That's where I see Tyler going, should they continue like this.

Every team in the VHL needs depth, and every team in the VHL wants to create a healthy locker room environment. There's where late-round selections can be of extreme value and even jump people on the board.

Anyway, we are a third into the season. Everything can change... teams may go up and down the board, and players may go up and down the team's boards. All we can do is sit back and enjoy their ride this season.

Last season, amidst the dark halls of the San Diego Marlins arena, a quiet hum gathered among the players and staff. It filled the hallways and took over every crack in the wall and line of grout. It grew louder during the season, though the calls grew quiet when the playoffs were in full swing. Simon, praise be to him, had abandoned them in their time of need. They had been deemed unworthy to win, bringing them to the pinnacle before dropping them off the perch. Like a mother bird unceremoniously pushing its baby from the nest. Fly or perish. Perhaps they were not ready to receive his full blessing. Perhaps not yet. But maybe soon.

    Praise Be to Simon

But now, with renewed vigor and fresh sacrifices, the Marlin’s arena once again hummed. A hum that reached further in its advance. Fans began to join in unknowingly. Their prayers to Simon, praise be to him, bringing them back game after game. Even away fans would join in the hum, bringing power to their team. A domination of the league and of their competitors. Enemies upon the ice who did not stand a chance against the prayers and sacrifices to Simon, praise be to him. It was not paint or water that made the ice surface, but the blood, sweat and tears of the players and staff.

    Praise Be to Simon

For you see, dear reader, sacrifices must be made for the good of Simon, praise be to him. Bodies and minds given willingly; though some would say otherwise. But those voices are quickly silenced as they themselves became the sacrifice. Sacrifices which fuel Simon, praise be to him, and the San Diego Marlins on their quest for glory and the cup. For Simon, praise be to him, must be fed before each victory. A victory also born in bloodshed as the Marlins clawed their way through their enemies and stood atop the mountain. Where they still stand today. Simon, praise be to him, has gifted the Marlins in a way he did not think worthy last season. He has imbued them with strength, courage, fortitude, and just a little bit of luck. For there is nothing like when you have the beast on your side.

    Praise Be to Simon

Deep in the dark corridors is a room from which the central hum emanates. From which only those loyal enough emerge to see another glorious fight. Players first give over their sticks and pucks from the previous game, shedding the old and embracing the new blessing cast upon them, bathed in a red glow. Their bodies and minds become stronger as they give themselves over to Simon, praise be to him. The sacrifices they make are physical, material, emotional, and spiritual. They give themselves unto him and he gives them his blessing once more. The Marlins file out of the room, eyes bright with the fire of their overlord. His name hung high on banners and lofted amongst the rafters.

Garsh reacted to MubbleFubbles in How Many First-Gens Go On To Recreate?
This was just something I was interested in so I figured I'd look into it. I looked into two different elements of this:

    - First Gens who exceeded 200 TPE and have had a recreate exceed 200 TPE as well
    - First Gens who exceeded 400 TPE and have had a recreate exceed 400 TPE as well.

The sample size that I used was from players in the Season 63 Draft Class (since that was the first class where I feel like we saw proper results from recruitment drives, although Season 62 was solid in this respect as well) up to players in the Season 74 Draft Class (with the reason I cut off there being I got to a handful of players in that class who, while still active with their recreate, had yet to make 400 TPE, so felt like carrying on using classes after that would skew the results.)

For First Gens who exceeded 200 TPE, 45% of them have gone on to have a recreate that also exceeded 200 TPE. The Season 70 Draft Class had the most success on this front, with 10 of it's 14 (71.4%) 200 TPE First Gens going on to make another 200 TPE player, although this is a big outlier as the next best draft class in this category (Season 69) was quite a way down from that but still successful with 58.9%. The lowest draft class in this category was Season 72, with just 30.8% of its 200 TPE players getting a recreate over 200 TPE, but Season 65 (31.3%) and Season 74 (33.3%) were not too far ahead in that regard.

For First Gens who exceeded 400 TPE, 54.7% of them have gone on to have a recreate that also exceeded 400 TPE, however this could rise to 57.1% if the active recreates that are still yet to hit 400 TPE from the S73 and S74 classes go on to surpass 400 TPE. The best draft classes in this regard were the Season 63 Draft Class (77.8%) and Season 66 (70.6%) and outside of the Season 74 Draft Class (which as mentioned before still has a handful of players that are active that can yet surpass 400 TPE), no class is below 40% in that category.

I wasn't exactly expecting to be traded. Had the thought crossed my mind before it happened? Yes, it had. The media spot I wrote on Monday during my lunch break alluded to the possibility, but I had no previous knowledge of the negotiations that had been going on for a week at that point. To be blunt, my relationship with the Toronto Legion went from really solid to nonexistent once Doomsday stepped down. I never heard from the new General Manager, nor did I even know Doomsday had stepped down until a few weeks (?) after it happened. It was a strange experience, going from feeling like part of the team to feeling like I was the only member of the team. I guess I'm bringing this up because I want to once again lament the prevalence of Discord in this community. Doomsday's resignation was done on Discord. The new GM, presumably, is only using Discord, so I never heard from him. The segmenting of the VHL across multiple lines of communication is unfortunate, and I think was a big reason that my player was traded. Otherwise, how could one justify moving the youngest and most developed defenseman from a rebuilding team? It doesn't actually make any sense. Please note this isn't me shitting on the users I mentioned - it's merely an anecdote about how Discord is ruining the VHL experience for me.
