Underclass_Hero reacted to fromtheinside in San Diego Marlins One Win Away from Semi-Final
Through five games versus the Mississauga Hounds, the Marlins have a slight 3-2 series edge heading into Game 6 tonight in San Diego. The feel of the series has shifted as of late though. The Marlins kicked off the best-of-seven with two straight wins on the road in Mississauga. In Game 1,  defenseman Nikita Eklund was the catalyst for much of San Diego's offense. Eklund has three assists and also scored a goal of their own for a very impressive four-point showing as the Marlins came out on top 7-5 in a high-scoring affair. Game 2 was more of the same as the Marlins got contributions from up and down the lineup. Johnny Xavier and Maxwell Matthias specifically had strong showings, as each player ended with three points apiece. Headed back to San Diego for Game 3 up 2-0, many had written off the Hounds in this series, but sure enough when their backs were up against the wall, Mississauga delivered. James Teekirque and Vasile Lamb both looked great and had a goal and an assist each in a strong 5-3 win for the Hounds.

Game 4 had very different tone. You could tell that both teams understood the importance at what was at stake in this game. Mississauga had a chance to even the series to make it a best-of-three, while the Marlins had a chance to go up 3-1 and be in the driver's seat for the remainder of the series. The defense and goaltending was definitely the best we've seen all series in this game, but it was the Marlins who came out ahead 3-1 after the final whistle blew. Marlins goalie Bubbles Utonium played exceptionally, stopping 28 of 29 shots for a .966 save percentage. On the brink of elimination, the Hounds would go back on home-ice for Game 5, and they did not let their fans down. They doubled up the Marlins 6-3, led by a dominating performance by Vasile Lamb who scored two goals and added two helpers.

That brings us to tonight. The series has shifted back to hot and sunny San Diego where the Marlins will look to clinch the series on home ice and move into the final four. Both teams are incredibly deep with talent, so it should be interesting to see who emerges from the matchup as the better team. Catch all the action tonight LIVE at 7PM EST/ 10PM PST on VHLTV LIVE!

    VHLE RULE BOOK
    1.0 - VHLE GMs
    2.0 - Contract Structure
    3.0 - Free Agency
    4.0 - Trades
5.0 - Call Ups, Send Downs and Waivers
    6.0 - Releasing Players
    7.0 - VHLE Draft
    8.0 - Playoffs
    9.0 - Spirit of Competition

    1. VHLE GMs

VHLE GMs will be selected by the VHLE Commissioners at the time of a vacancy.

VHLE GMs can be removed by the VHLE Commissioners at any time within their tenure for poor performance, inactivity or mis-management.

    2 – CONTRACT STRUCTURE

    2.1 Contracts

Contracts in the VHLE are for 3 seasons from being drafted. After those 3 seasons and you’re still VHLE eligible you will become a free agent. The team that drafts you retains your rights for 3 seasons.

Free agency contracts are for 1 season. See Free Agency in Section 3 .

All VHLE contracts are for $1,500,000 per season.

    2.2 – TPE Threshold

In the VHLE, the minimum TPE allowed is 200 TPE and there is no maximum. With that said, the season after you hit 401 TPE you will move up to the VHL. If you hit 401 during the offseason you will not spend that season in the VHLE.

The cutoff date for VHLE eligibility is the same as the VHLM TPE cutoff date.

If you’re under 201 tpe by this date then you stay in the VHLM.

If you’re over 400 TPE by this date you move up to the VHL. If you’re at 300 on or before this date you may choose to either move up to the VHL or stay down in the VHLE.

*You will be considered VHLE eligible if your TPA (+ banked TPE) has regressed below 401.

2.3 - Backup Goalie Minimum Amount of Games

General Managers are required to play their back up goalie a minimum of 8 games during the season. If the General Managers fail to do so, they will be punished by the VHLE commissioners.

    3 – FREE AGENCY

    3.1 Free Agency Contracts

Free agent contracts are for 1 year and those players are released at the end of the season from their respective teams.

    3.2 - Tampering

The act of tampering, which is prohibited by the VHL, is defined as any member of a VHLE team making direct, or indirect, contact in order to entice or persuade, or attempt to entice or persuade, a member currently under contract with another VHL team to enter into negotiations with or request a trade to a team that they are not currently under contract with.

The punishment for tampering is decided upon by the VHLE Commissioners, and may include: sanctions against offering Free Agent contracts to the player(s) in question, sanctions against offering any Free Agent contracts in upcoming Free Agency period, and/or future draft pick forfeiture.

In the event that a Commissioner is engaged with tampering allegations as either a player or General Manager, that Commissioner will not be involved in determining the league's course of action with regards to punishment. If deemed necessary, other members of the league's senior leadership may be brought in to review the situation.

    3.3 - Inactive Free Agents

An Inactive Player is any player who has not had a TPE Update in the past 30 days. An Inactive Free Agent refers to a UFA who has not updated their player in the 30 days prior to the opening of Free Agency.

Each team can only sign a maximum of two Inactive Free Agents each off-season and cannot extend pending Inactive Free Agents.

    4 – TRADES

    4.1 - General Trading Rules

If a General Manager makes a trade offer in the portal, they are accepting the trade on their teams’ behalf. Once a receiving General Manager accepts a trade offer in the portal, it is considered accepted by both parties, and posted to the forums.

All trades will be reviewed by the Commissioner's Office before they are made official in the portal. If a trade is found to be excessively detrimental to a franchise, intentionally compromising to the integrity of the league, or in violation of any other trading rule found in this section, it can and will be vetoed by the Commissioners.

After the trade deadline has passed, no trades are allowed to be made until the end of playoffs.

    4.2 – Reversing a Trade

Once a trade has been accepted by all parties, it cannot be reversed unless it's blocked by the Commissioners.

    4.3 – Trading Draft Picks

Draft picks may only be able to be traded two seasons in advance during the regular season (before the trade deadline). During the off-season, draft picks of that off-season's draft and the two consequent drafts can be traded. (i.e. In S31, a team could not trade a S34 draft pick. However upon the completion of the season, S34 picks could be dealt along with S32 and S33 selections.)

Trades found to bypass the above rule (i.e.  trading a S40 3rd during the regular season and then having it traded back for a S42 2nd in the off-season.) are not allowed. If such trades are made, the second trade (the one in the off-season) will be blocked by the Commissioners.

    4.4 - Trade Deadline

After the trade deadline, teams are not allowed to make trades until after the last game of the playoffs in the same season.  A time and date for the trade deadline will be announced by the Commissioners each season.

5 – Call Ups, Send Downs and Waivers

    5.1 - Waivers

VHLE does not have any waivers.  Players are automatically considered to have free movement between the VHLE and VHL, so long as the player complies with the VHLE's maximum TPE threshold. Refer to Section 2 for more information.

    5.2 - Call- ups and Send-downs

Only players that are in compliance with the VHLE's maximum TPE threshold (can not exceed 400 TPE) or have regressed below 400 TPA. may be sent down. Similar to a player being called up, they would have to meet the minimum threshold to play in  the VHL (350 TPE). Player movement can only occur during the offseason.

    6 – Releasing Players

    6.1 – When Releasing A Player

After being released, a player will be treated in accordance with the Free Agency rules in Section 3.

    7 - VHLE DRAFT

    7.1 – Draft Lottery

The VHLE draft picks will be based on the reverse of the league standings from the previous regular season. For instance, the 6th place team will get the 1st overall draft pick and the team who finished the season in 1st will receive the 6th overall pick.
In the event of a tie breaker, it will follow the rules that the VHL has instituted.

    In order of priority:
    W (Total Wins)
ROW (Regulation Wins + OT Wins)
GDiff (Goals For - Goals Against)

    8 - Playoffs

The top 4 seeds at the end of the VHLE regular season will participate in the playoffs. The semifinal matchups are played as a best of seven series (1 vs.4, 2 vs. 3), with the winners of these playing off in the final best of seven series to crown the winner of the Renaissance Cup.

    9.1 - Spirit of Competition

Best Available Roster - General Managers are expected to put forth their best available roster every game of the season. Managers found to be violating the spirit of competition within the league, especially, but not limited to, any form of tanking, will face punishment at the discretion of the League Commissioners. Punishment for violating the Spirit of Competition includes, but is not limited to: Draft Pick Forfeiture and General Manager Dismissal.

Underclass_Hero reacted to Daniel Janser in a tale of two Brothers // first round of Playoffs
Swiss Central Gazzette (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats)

The two young Swiss have both reached the playoffs with their respective teams. Marcel's Hounds struggle against San Diego and trail 2-0 in the series, Daniel's Red Wolves are 1-1 with one OT loss against Rome.

Mississauga's first playoff game in S81 was lost 7-5. It all started good, though, with Teekirque @Mongoose87 (Lamb, Arpa) opening the score with a power play goal, only 36 seconds into the playoffs. Unfortunately, the Marlins answered with three straight goals, before Janser @Morcar80 (Lamb, Bushtit) with a slap shot from the blue line during a man advantage and Lamb @dlamb (Bridgers, Teekirque) equalized the score for the first intermission. The second period went to the Californian team with 2-1. Cobberson @David Cobberson(TenIQIsGod, Marino) scored the only goal for his colours. The third period was a copy/paste of the second and Janser (McMuffin) was responsible for Mississauga's sole marker in that period, with a deflection in front of the net. The three stars went to Eklund @Ekky (1g/3a), Lamb (1g/2a) and Young @Laflamme (1g/2a). The goaltending was nothing to write home about with the edge with Utonium @fishy (.898) having the edge over Arpa (.851). The Hounds had an abysmal penalty kill (6/9) but a decent power play (2/6). It appears both teams neglected their defensive duties when at a man disadvantage.
Marcel was recorded with 2g, 0a and -1

The second game was lost 5-3. This time, the SoCal team was first on the board with a power play goal, but before the first intermission Lamb (Bridgers, Janser) scored during DeGroot's @rory tripping penalty to even the score one each. In the second, Teekirque (Nine, Bridgers) scored the only goal of the period and short handed to boot. Unfortunately, the Marlins came into the third hot as hell and scored four consecutive goals, three of them on a man advantage. With 2:11 minutes on the clock McMuffin @Ente2997 (Bob, Nine) with his power play goal saved some of the Hounds' dignity that was left, by ending the game on a positive note. Matthias @Underclass_Hero (1g/2a), Great @Jake Sumner(1g/1a) (one of the brothers' fellow Calgary prospect) and Xavier @Johnny_HX (1g/2a) were named three stars of the night. Again, the goaltending face off was held on a rather mediocre level, with Arpa (.881) only marginally inferior to Utonium (.893). Even more than in the previous match, the defence of either team neglected their defensive chores and let their goaltenders do the heavy lifting. The Hounds sported a 4/8 in box play which is just not good enough for a team with ambitions for the second round of the playoffs (despite their SHG). Their power play was more impressive (2/5). Or should we say the Marlins' box play was similarly inefficient as the Hounds'.
Marcel had 0g, 1a, +0 and 3sb to his name.

an all too common sight in this series sofar: Arpa beaten once again.

Daniel's Red Wolves celebrated a 5-3 win over Rome in the first match up of the series. The first period saw a brace for each team. Bonaparte @CptSquall (Zabastovka, Waffles) on a power play and Hogan @FonziGG (Power, Heavems) on even strength found the twine for Istanbul. In the second period, both teams slowed down and focussed on their defensive play. Therefore, only Tsarov @PadStack (Bonaparte, Zabastovka) was able to score and bring the Wolves in front. In the third period, Heavems @RstortonYT (Li, Hogan) extended the lead to two goals, before Rome closed the gap again. In the dying minute and in an act of desperation, Rome pulled their netminder to play 6 vs 5, but Tsarov (Zabastovka, Wilson) had different plans and crushed what little hope the Italian team may have had with an empty netter. The three stars were Tsarov (2g/0a), Zabastovka @DarkSpyro (0g/3a) and Hogan (1g/1a). In an epic goaltending battle, Menace (.927) had Olson's (.907) number. Istanbul's power play was okay (1/4) the box play has room for improvement (2/7).
Daniel was noted with 0g, 0a, +0, 2 PIM (Tripping, lead to a goal against) and 1 hit

The second game was lost 7-6 in sudden death. The first period was a rollercoaster with three goals for each team. Tsarov (Waffles, Zabastovka), Li @Ryan Li (Heavems, Kman) and Hogan (Heavems, Li) found the back of the net for the Red Wolves. In the second period, Istanbul had the upper hand in shots and on the score board, with three of their goals against Rome's two. Li (Heavems, Hogan), Heavems (Hogan, Kman) and Wilson @LeBron Jamezz (Waffles, Zabastovka) succeeded for the Turks. Rome was able to equalize though with the only goal in the third, which meant the teams had to go into over time, which the Italians took for them. Heavems (1g/3a), Li (2g/1a) and Hogan (1g/2a) were awarded the three stars. Menace (.881) was again the better man in net than Olson (.857), but Rome's five!!! power play goals, meant that this game was unwinnable for him. As already indicated, Istanbul's box play was nothing short of catastrophic (5/11) and the power play (0/1) was not able to offset this huge disadvantage. The even strength score was 6-1, but was thrown away by too many unnecessary penalties on which the Wolves rolled out the red carpet for the Gladiators.
Daniel had 0g, 0a, +0, 4 PIM (Hooking and Roughing, with the former leading to a goal against), 1 hit and 1sb

The Jansers' stats in the playoffs sofar:
    Marcel: 2gp, 2g, 1a, 3pts, -1, 0 PIM, 0 hits, 3sb, 1ppg
    Daniel: 2gp, 0g, 0a,  0pts, +0, 6 PIM, 2 hits, 1sb, 0ppg

1.)  As of now, Warsaw is currently sitting at a 32-20-6 record at the time of the press. Do you see us catching up to the likes of Malmo, and Moscow?
No we didn't end up catching up to them.

2.) Going into the New Year, what are some things you would like to improve upon?
Definitely improving on my athletic diet.

3.) Of the two top teams in the standings from their respective conferences, whom do you see as the weaker link of the two? Vancouver, or Moscow?
I think Vancouver might win the playoffs, so I'm going to say Moscow is the weaker link of the two.

4.)  What is currently our biggest strength heading into 2022?
I would say were pretty good at scoring goals lol

5.) On the flip side, what would you say is our biggest weakness heading into 2022?
idk, just lack of depth I guess.

Obviously, we do our best to perform better and better , but Malmo and Moscow are more flexible ,  so it's a big challenge for us
2.) Going into the New Year, what are some things you would like to improve upon?
Realisation, we shoot a lot but it is not enough to be a winner
3.) Of the two top teams in the standings from their respective conferences, whom do you see as the weaker link of the two? Vancouver, or Moscow?
Wolves are cracked, during the last season they beat everyone with their eyes closed. In my opinion, Moscow is weaker at the moment
4.)  What is currently our biggest strength heading into 2022?
Chemistry.  Our team got new younf faces but they play really well. For instance, Kisslinger is top rookie scorer with Reynolds who is one of he best sniper in the league so far.

    Hello, VHL...

With the conclusion of the regular season upon us, I think now is the right time to talk about the conclusion of something different. That being...

...that this will be my last season as Davos' GM.

I was (controversially) originally brought on in January of 2020, meaning that at the end of the playoffs, I will have served the league (somewhat) faithfully for just about exactly 2 years. This will also be my first time not being a GM of some sort since April of 2019, when I became the first GM of the Mississauga Hounds. I know that this will come as a surprise to some of you, but I have given this a great deal of thought on my own time and think it's the best decision to make for myself and for the league. Bear with me, because I'm going to try to address whatever I can about it in this post.

    FAQ:

    Why?
This is an interesting question, and it has a few answers.
Davos will be hit hard with retirement, and I don't have the heart to deal with it. We've had some not-fun times with me here, including S70-71 when we set the record for most consecutive seasons in last place (which wasn't really my fault) and S74-79 (I think?) when we underperformed and rebuilt (which kinda was my fault). While we're a playoff team now, I don't have the same enthusiasm for turning things around that I did then. It might be possible to make it work, but I've asked myself whether I see myself working to do that and I really don't. Hopefully we get someone who will! I haven't lived up to the hype. This by itself isn't a reason to step down--the reason is mostly represented in the first point--but I was meant to be the savior of the franchise and things didn't work out that way. I will always think it's more important that everyone had fun, but with one failed attempt to compete gone and another probably gone unless some playoff magic comes out of nowhere, I also think it's unfair to the league that a consistently underperforming team has the same GM for eternity. The league and I are moving in different philosophical directions. This actually isn't about the VHLE. Everyone's also aware of the whole meta thing, and it's more about that. I'm not here to criticize anyone for going along with it, but it's another "do I see myself doing this" situation where the answer is no. I am NOT saying that I want any replacement to try to make Davos a meta team--in fact, I very much do not want that--but I find the idea of running a team less fun when "this is what I want to do" is very different from "this is what I should be doing if I want to win a championship". Like the second point, this is a very minor issue for me in relation to the first, so please don't make me "that guy who left over the meta" or anything. Just something I find worth mentioning. I don't like that I'm saying any of the above, but I've had this on my mind for weeks and I think it's the most fair explanation of my thoughts.

    Are you going inactive?
No. In fact, I hope I stay as active as always in the future.

Do you want to GM again?
I hope I do at some point, and at that point I hope I'm hired! Right now, I just need a break.

    Are you leaving the BoG?
No, you can't get rid of me that easily. I like arguing too much.

A few (alright, quite a few) shoutouts to people who have made my time as GM fun:

@Berocka: I cannot possibly make a list without putting you on top. I don't like to speak in absolutes, but you are my best friend in this league. Thank you for putting up with all of my bullshit, and thank you for always being there to talk. It's been great working with you almost from Day 1 and I hope we'll do some other cool stuff in the future.

@Ahma: It's no secret that you LOVE Davos, and I'm amazed by your ability to stand by this team through thick and thin. Thank you for your loyalty, and also for reminding me to care when I start to lose it.

@WranglersSuck, @Banackock, @Darth Kaprizov, @Tyler, @KC15, and @JardyB10: to the rest of the active members of the current roster, hi! I know this comes on short notice, but thank you so much for getting Davos where it is today and making it a wonderful place to be. Best of luck!

@Brrbisbrr, @McWolf , @Laine, @FrostBeard, @Grape, @Snussu, @samx, and probably a whole lot of others I'm missing: you were the people who made the past 12 (yes, 12!) seasons fun as players. I hope you're doing well, whatever you're up to.

@Doomsday, @Renomitsu, @Esso2264 , @DoktorFunk, @diamond_ace , and especially @GlowyGoat (if you ever see this): you never played for me, but you still showed up to our server because you wanted to. I appreciate this endlessly and consider you my friends.

To the @VHL GM crew: some of you have given me advice, some of you have given me some respectful negotiations, some of you I've never really interacted with on a GM level. But none of you have ever made me feel unwelcome, even when I wasn't making the smartest moves, and I think that's great.

@Commissioner: I haven't talked to you about this, so I'd like to apologize again for the zero-notice thing. But here's the announcement. Thanks for keeping things running for all of us! If you'd like to talk to me about the next GM, feel free to do so; if you'd rather make the decision on your own, I respect that as well.

To anyone else I missed, and to many others I'd like to tag here but won't because the reasons don't really connect to my time as a GM: thank you for being you.

This isn't an easy post to make, but I've been hesitating to make it for a while now and it's time to push the button.

    But before I do...

    1. They were cool. Pretty chill altogether, nothing too exciting but it was nice to have a break.
    2. Having possession of my bean bag. Where I am now is lacking a bean bag.
    3. The answer is finding a good rhythm and having every single one of our lines firing on all cylinders. With the teams that we will play in the playoffs this year, it's going to take an entire team effort to win.
    4. Marshall Maxx has shown improvement, and that's for sure. However, I would like to see more hits in the future. As he moves to the VHLE, I expect him to put more effort into his bread and butter of slamming others into the boards.
    5. In my opinion, it has to be Maxwell Mathias. He has shown the most growth and effort through the season, and he will be vital to our success in the playoffs.
    6. During this time of year, I like just walking around while it is lightly snowing. In a warm jacket, it's kinda nice when it snows.
  19. Cheers

    1.  Hollidays were great!  My three year old had a blast and it was so fun to see her excited for Santa.

    2.  I am looking forward to a happy and healthy year.  AND!  For a San Diego Marlins championship playoff!

    3.  I think we have hit a good groove going into the playoffs.  Solid lines and defense is playing great.

    4. No not really.  I am a beginner and still learning the ins and outs.  My dman has improved but still along way from the likes of Degroot and the other solid Man on the club.

    5. 4 way tie for Degroot, Matthius, Eklund, and Maxx on defense.   Great numbers and solid defense throughout the year. (I am bias for defenseman!). lol

    6. I like to snowshoe, watch hockey, and some sledding with kiddo

    Review:
I actually think the layout is pretty solid. I like the two action shots with the main render in the middle. The player images look good and have solid quality. I think the only thing I don't like is the exposure layer makes it look pretty washed out on the middle and right render faces. The colour gradient overlay is good and the text is good too. Overall, I think just the washed out look is a little much. 8/10
