Welcome one welcome all to this season's VSN Scouting Mock Draft! This draft features lots of quality players and plenty of goaltenders. Through mixups and slight miscommunication we're proud to bring to you our predictions for this season's entry draft.

1 Vancouver Wolves     John Jameson @Frank                         C   TPE: 311                                   Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB     Season 84 - Regular Season  72 45 52 97 15 419 34 137 38                             Season 84 - Playoffs 5 2 0 2 -6 24 2 9 4                             With players now being able to be called up to the VHL at 300 TPE and Vancouver in need of one last forward to complete a full 6-4-1 roster this would be a perfect opportunity for the team's GM to draft their own player. John Jameson lit up the VHLM with over a point per game during his time in there for San Diego and Philidelphia and would make a perfect fit for the Vancouver Wolves.                                             2 Prague Phantoms     Henry Eagles @Greg_Di                         RW   TPE: 368                                   Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB     Season 84 - Regular Season 72 11 14 25 0 175 41 100 10     Season 83 - Regular Season 16 17 17 34 14 143 2 18 24     Season 84 - Playoffs 6 1 4 5 3 10 17 10 0     Season 83 - Playoffs 4 3 2 5 4 16 2 1 2     With a lot of the Phantoms current forwards set to be retiring soon Prague will more than likely look to build up their forward group since they already have many notable defensive prospects ready to be called up. Henry Eagles will likely become a part of Prague's roster instantly if drafted by the Phantoms. Though having a small amout of points Henry Eagles has huge potential to become a star forward for the Phantoms in the future.                                             3 London United         Matt Murdock @Acydburn                         G   TPE: 368                                   Season GP W L OTL SV% GAA SO GA SA     Season 84 - Regular Season 51 34 14 1 0.927 2.39 3 119 1640     Season 83 - Regular Season 14 7 5 2 0.919 2.69 1 38 470     Season 84 - Playoffs 12 8 4 0 0.927 2.7 1 33 454     Season 83 - Playoffs 4 0 3 1 0.914 3.81 0 16 185     With Cole Pearce recently departing from the United they're now left without a future star goaltender. Matt Murdock is a solid choice for the replacement of Pearce with an over .900sv% in both the VHLM and VHLE. Murdock will be coming off a championship run with the Istanbul Red Wolves and look to carry a little momentum and hope to the United franchise with their talents and hopefully become the franchise goaltender London has never had.                                             4 New York Americans     Daniel Weaver @ThePerfectNut                         LW   TPE: 377                                   Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB     Season 84 - Regular Season 72 35 45 80 25 369 49 119 17     Season 83 - Regular Season 14 6 4 10 3 35 6 21 1     Season 84 - Playoffs 7 2 7 9 1 41 6 23 0     Season 83 - Playoffs 6 1 3 4 5 15 2 5 0     Coming in at fourth overall on the list is Daniel Weaver, a forward for the Houston Bulls in the VHLM. Daniel Weaver despite being the highest TPE player slides a bit on this list, just due to the fact that some of the teams before him have different needs, but regardless Weaver is the highest TPE player in the draft and will be very solid for the New York Americans. Weaver is a pure sniper, being the best offensive player in the draft and he will be able to join the NYA squad immediately and make an impact for them. The new GM for the Americans will have their hands full, but this should help them out a bit on the forward front for their future.                                             5 Calgary Wranglers     Phil Strasmore @Phil                         D   TPE: 308                                   Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB     Season 84 - Regular Season 71 26 52 78 2 222 80 158 135     Season 83 - Regular Season 12 2 5 7 -3 12 8 13 8     Season 84 - Playoffs 7 4 8 12 1 19 6 18 7     Season 83 - Playoffs 5 1 5 6 5 9 2 4 6     The Calgary Wranglers recently traded up to 5th overall and with good reason, selecting Phil Strasmore in the Draft. Calgary is in desperate need for a solid fourth defenseman to be able to at minimum, slide into the lineup for them and add to their young core. Phil Strasmore had a great season in the M with the Houston Bulls and he'll be looking to continue his dominance in the VHL. With the addition of Strasmore to the team, this team should be able to contend for the playoffs again, and they're only going to be getting better with the core that they already have.                                             6 Malmo Nighthawks     Astro Singh @8Ovechkin8                         LW   TPE: 273                                   Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB     Season 84 - Regular Season 72 38 34 72 -34 330 46 217 40                             Season 84 - Playoffs 6 3 5 8 -1 34 8 13 7                             Next up at sixth, the Malmo Nighthawks will select Astro Singh from the Saskatoon Wild in the VHLM. Singh had an extremely good season on a bottom tier M team that ended up taking two games off of the eventually champions in the first round. Singh won't be able to make an immediate impact for the Nighthawks, he'll be a solid addition to the team in the future and should be able to help spearhead the new Malmo Nighthawks lineup in a season. Singh can play both sides of the ice, being a great solid two-way forward and at the moment, Malmo can take anything they can get to help with their rebuild.                                              7 Toronto Legion     Tater Tottingham @Trunkxolotl                         D   TPE: 241                                   Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB     Season 84 - Regular Season 72 27 62 89 29 218 38 104 106     Season 83 - Regular Season 16 0 0 0 4 3 8 8 2     Season 84 - Playoffs 10 1 7 8 3 18 14 23 15     Season 83 - Playoffs 11 0 1 1 2 9 14 19 5     Tater Tottingham had a very succesful season in the VHLM with 89 points for the Mexico City Kings. Though it'll be another season before Tottingham will possibly be called up to the VHL this falls perfectly into the timeline to possibly replace Sting Chameleon who will be a pending UFA when Tottingham will be eligible to be called up. This would give the Legion a younger defenseman with a consistent earning track and leave more cap room for other parts of the large Toronto roster.                                             8 Riga Reign     Jesse Teno @aimkin                         G   TPE: 286                                   Season GP W L OTL SV% GAA SO GA SA     Season 84 - Regular Season 71 22 47 2 0.904 3.2 5 228 2386                             Season 84 - Playoffs 6 2 3 1 0.09 3.68 0 23 254                             The Riga Reign are going to be entering into a rebuild and with a deep goaltender pool Jesse Teno could be a good fit for the Reign. The first gen goaltender that has exploded into the VHL scene could be a gamble but if it were to pay off, the Reign could have themselves a solid franchise goaltender. Once Teno becomes eligible to be called up the current goaltender for Riga, Tobias Reinhart, will be retiring which will make the perfect opportunity for Teno to come up and replace T. Reinhart so that Riga may focus on building up the rest of their roster in future drafts.                                             9 Malmo Nighthawks     Henry Tucker Jr @NSG                         G   TPE: 298                                   Season GP W L OTL SV% GAA SO GA SA     Season 84 - Regular Season 48 26 12 8 0.906 2.11 7 101 1072     Season 83 - Regular Season 8 7 1 0 0.908 1.61 1 13 141     Season 84 - Playoffs 10 5 4 1 0.93 2.26 0 24 342                             Malmo's needs are mainly on the back end with either defenseman or goaltenders. This pick may possibly be the best pick available at either position. Though the Nighthawks currently roster two goaltenders both have fallen to being weekly welfare collecters. After another season Malmo may choose to not pick up their team option with Thomas Price and instead call up Henry Tucker Jr to compete with Boris Tsezar as the starter for the Nighthawks.                                             10 Calgary Wranglers     Reid Johnson @TopTiddee2                         D   TPE: 232                                   Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB     Season 84 - Regular Season 72 7 52 59 46 106 36 70 54                             Season 84 - Playoffs 15 3 12 15 10 45 15 15 12                             Calgary's roster currently lacks one thing, and that is a defenseman. The trouble for the team is that they don't have any prominent defenseman prospects that can come up to the team as soon as they may need them. Max earning defenseman Reid Johnson would make a good fit for the team. Calgary will likely need to rely on FA to fill the open defenseman spot for one season but after that will likely call up Johnson as soon as possible to solidify their roster.                                             11 Prague Phantoms     Alfred Champagne @Anthique                         RW   TPE: 229                                   Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB     Season 84 - Regular Season 72 29 53 82 32 319 64 190 36                             Season 84 - Playoffs 5 2 2 4 -7 22 6 8 5                             Again trying to build up their forward group, Champagne likely still has another season before possibly joining the Phantoms. Alfred is a solid earning forward that for some time could be a 1st line forward for the Phantoms alongside Henry Eagles who similar to Eagles also has huge potential.                                             12 Helsinki Titans     Karl Pedersen @JeffD                         G   TPE: 278                                   Season GP W L OTL SV% GAA SO GA SA     Season 84 - Regular Season 63 32 26 5 0.909 2.57 3 163 1797                             Season 84 - Playoffs 5 1 3 1 0.897 3.36 0 18 175                             Though Helsinki currently has star goaltender Xavier Booberry, time is limited and the Titans currently have no prospect goalies. With Chicago's rumored interest in Karl Pedersen it seems less realistic that Chicago move for Pedersen having added Cole Pearce to their roster. This leaves Pederson in the open and up for grabs by any team, with that Karl Pedersen may fit in to Helsinki's timeline just barely to fill in for Booberry once they retire and come into a possiblely competitive Titan's roster.                                             13 Malmo Nighthawks     Jani Karppinen @ShawnGlade                         D   TPE: 229                                   Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB     Season 84 - Regular Season 72 18 61 79 42 204 54 123 106     Season 83 - Regular Season 19 2 3 5 4 14 18 32 12     Season 84 - Playoffs 7 3 8 11 -4 17 4 9 2     Season 83 - Playoffs 12 0 1 1 -4 4 12 24 13     Looking at their picks in this draft, Malmo has already selected a goalie in Henry Tucker Jr and a forward in Asttro Singh, so now it's time to select a defenseman, something their really need! Jani Karppinen will be the selection here at 13th, however he won't make an immediate impact on the roster. Karppinen played for the Houston Bulls in the VHLM with Phil Strasmore and was one of their best defenseman on the back end. A two-way styled defenseman is what the Malmo Nighthawks will be receiving and they'll just be adding more prospects to the never ending pool for the rebuild.                                             14 Moscow Menace     Jeremy Swayman @Agito                         G   TPE: 185                                   Season GP W L OTL SV% GAA SO GA SA     Season 84 - Regular Season 25 21 3 1 0.914 1.73 2 43 498                                                                             With Moscow's last goaltender pick Ilya Bryzgalov likely going to be a bust the need to fill the spot for the future goaltender of the franchise will be crucial for moscows future. Jeremy Swayman could be a perfect fit for that spot with the user having history with the franchise, a decent earning rate, and a good chance to come up to the VHL parallel to when Moscow will be in need of a goaltender. This could be a very good target for the Menace                                             15 Los Angeles Stars     Lloyd Braun @Toast                         D   TPE: 218                                   Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB     Season 84 - Regular Season 71 14 40 54 13 105 44 146 105                             Season 84 - Playoffs 7 1 3 4 -2 12 10 11 4                             With the Los Angeles Stars now boasting a talented young core of players, led by standout second-year goaltender Art Vandelay, Zach Gagnon decides to add help for his stud goalie with... his childhood rival?? Lloyd Braun, formerly an advisor to David Dinkins, at the time the mayor of New York City, and an avid proponent of the restoration of the Alex Theatre, spent the past year in the VHLM with the San Diego Marlins and the Houston Bulls. It turns out that he's a quality two-way defenseman, capable of generating offense while still playing a strong, physical game in his own zone. His work ethic has really taken off in Season 84, and with the 15th pick, this is great value for the Stars.                                              16 London United         Womp Womp Womp Womp Womp Jr @AdamEss                         D   TPE: 157                                   Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB     Season 84 - Regular Season 38 4 5 9 8 16 47 66 22                             Season 84 - Playoffs 15 1 4 5 -1 12 35 32 25                             After solving their goaltending dilema London will likely move to fill it's defenseman prospect pool and who other than the best named player of the draft. Womp Womp Womp Womp Womp Jr is a solid earning defenseman that created a little late but might fit into London's timeline for when they could possibly come out of their rebuild and serve as a solid depth and even possibly top defenseman for the United depending on how their earning pans out in the future.

@Arce and @Brandon both are old fucks even slightly before my time. (I think Brandon is actually younger than us but he is an older fuck all the same). I’m not sure if either were still around once I became Commissioner, but I think they were for a bit. That’s probably why they left.

Hi, I was indeed driving back to my job site from getting Subway. I’m parked now though.

The recruitment crew must use Discord mostly so I don’t see much of their inner workings sadly.

This is the second podcast I’ve listened to in a row where the host said “dollars” by mistake. @Berocka

Speaking of Berocka, he wasn’t a big fan of this Theme Week. It was indeed Berocka though.

    Ignore @Quik he’s a dipshit.

I used to have someone make me a new PFP for each player, but eventually I got too inactive and didn’t care and stuck with the original!

CHECK THE HALL OF FAME YOU FUCKING IDIOT

@GrittyIsKing is definitely younger than the VHL.

    Dollar.

Yeah, welcome to being a goalie, there’s not a ton of agency at that position.

I’m cool with making fun of Arce. Stupid blind fuck. He deserves to be tag teamed.

@MubbleFubbles is better at podcasting than me.

Generally I listen to every available VHL podcast every week. It has cut into the D&D podcasts I listen to, but I’ve slowly been catching up on those as well. I’ve been on a project since last Monday and I’ve consumed probably…35 hours of non-VHL podcasts from that point.

Well this was a tremendous exercise in creativity at the very least. Obligatory "in b4 someone names their next player ROARRRR Trex." I love how chaotic this is, honestly. A wild ride of a media piece, I particularly liked the idea of all of the different development leagues, feeding off of the vicarious life that some sports parents foist upon their offspring. It's funny to try to grade this grammatically, as a lot of words are intentionally misspelled for the purposes of humor and exaggeration. Overall, I really enjoyed this piece and kind of hope you continue it next week haha. 10/10

Fifteen years, eh? That's a long time, and it makes me feel old knowing that I've been a part of this community for the better part of 10 of those years. I kind of zoned out since that last sentence, thinking about how much my own life has changed over that time, and how much it will change in the next ten. Before I continue, I want to preface the following paragraphs with the statement: I'm writing from the perspective of my memories, and as such, there may be some factual inaccuracies.

I've mentioned before that I delayed in joining the VHL for several seasons after first learning of it, mostly because of the reputation the league had at the time of being 'elitist'. The reputation wasn't entirely undeserved, as at the time, the amount of TPE a media spot earned depended on the quality of the work, and ultimately the grade it received from the Media Review Team. I like to think of myself as a capable writer, so I wasn't particularly worried about that for myself, but it definitely felt very exclusionary. Over time, the rules on this have eased up considerably, and the league feels much more accessible for non-native English speakers. A significant positive.

I honestly don't remember quite what the update procedure was when I started, but I do remember my initial reaction to the VHL App: hatred. I hated the idea of more of the community not being present on the actual site [a special middle finger to Discord goes here]. The navigation of it also felt somewhat obtuse, which certainly led to some frustration. With a little more development and some more experience on my end, the App has become one of the biggest positives of the VHL. Submitting tasks for TPE and then applying those points, checking stats and standings, and now even Trivia being centrally-located is fantastic, especially when comparing to the archaic updating procedures on Other Leagues, which feel like they are straight out of mid-90s BBS systems.

I hate to end this piece on a downer, but I would be remiss not to mention a few people who have unfortunately left us, some of which I had more interaction with others. I suppose it's good to keep the limits of life in mind when enjoying hobbies, because as wrapped up as we all get in the results of fake hockey, there are real people behind the usernames, people who deserve to be remembered. I also want to apologize for anyone I miss:

                                  - The first person who comes to mind is 701, David Theusch. I had the most direct interaction with 701, even remotely giving him computer support many years ago, which he eventually threw some money my way for [along with some of my SHL bank cash]. I used that money to buy Bloodborne for PS4, and to this day I can't play that game without thinking of 701. He could be brash and over-the-top, but his enthusiasm for sim hockey and for living life were unparalleled.

                                  - I had fewer interactions with Emi, but they were memorable nevertheless. When I first started toying around with the idea of having a Persona 5 character as my next player, my initial plan was to have Joker as a playmaking center, using the name that he has in the anime, Ren Amimaya. Emi was quick to cut in with approval of the idea, but said that his proper name is Akira Kurusu, because that's his name in the manga. She always struck me as having a razor-quick wit, and I regret never having been on the same team.

                                  - Finally, Fredrik Elmebeck, a user who I don't recall having any interactions with, so all I have to go on is the memories of others, who I recall describing him as a brilliant conversationalist and a very talented musician. I know without a shadow of a doubt that he was a positive member of this community, and is honored as such with the Frederick Elmebeck Memorial Trophy.

As I log onto the forum after a school-induced hiatus, just after my fifteenth birthday, around a year and a half from now, I see everything has changed. Flying cars whiz from city to city, from training facility to arena, from forum to portal. Players spend their time practicing their hybrid Michigan/Kucherov stat in hopes of making the highlight reel in the first ever season that you can literally watch the games with holographic games broadcasted on the official VHLTwitch account, which has thousands of subscribers. Historical stars are all but forgotten, with brand new faces shining across the virtual billboards advertising the newest 4D trading card or press conference with the President. Talks are being held about expanding into the VHLSouthAmerica, after the seven new leagues already created in the past year and a half. The portal is now a literal portal, transporting the youngest of players in the VHLBabies and the oldest of players in the VHLSeniors to their cribs and retirement homes from rest after a long hard day of training their spatial awareness/peripheral vision stat and of contract negotiation for real money benefits along with the tens of millions of dollars now being spent to attract the best young and old talent.

The VHLKidz has just dropped, with three leagues for each level of young hopeful, including the previously mentioned VHLBabies, and including the VHLToddlers and the VHLPre-Teens, all of whom's creation were spearheaded by new parents looking to get their young-un's started from an early age to get every possible baby step up against the competition. Players such as IJsdqjlkmmada MIFhaklsna139 lead the league in the VHLB, while in the VHLP-T  AmongUs SussyImpostor sets new records for hits, penalty minutes and ejections each and every season. In VHLKidz, to simulate development, depreciation is reversed and players have their finest years in the final days of their careers, before finally graduating to the VHLM after 12 seasons of hard work and naptimes. The VHLT, the barely noticed middle-child of the VHLK is merely a pitstop for young hopefuls who seek to get out of there as soon as possible, throwing temper tantrums after they don't score or even get one measly point in games dominated by goaltenders such as Fuzzie Bear and ROARRR Trex.

With the new money pouring in from live games, the chat feature makes a reappearance, leading to about 10 old-timers being really happy for a little while, basking in their glorious victory, until they realize they need to get onto their 10-slide PowerPoint presentation for 2 TPE about how great it is that the chat feature is back. With the influx of new stats such as the aforementioned Michigan/Kucherov and the spatial awareness/peripheral vision stat, the new cap limit is 24, leading to twice the amount of time being spent creating things for the sole purpose of internet points for a hockey player weekly. I gather all of this information just from checking the now-20 long list of status updates.

Confusion and excitement spread through my mind, igniting seemingly endless possibilities, but then just as quickly I realize all of this stuff will likely be more confusing than claiming TPE in the SHL.

So far, it's been more like the summer of Simon, as Art Vandelay's rookie season hasn't been exactly what he'd hoped. LA is sitting outside of the playoffs by one spot in the NA conference, and has improved since the season started, but there's a significant point drop-off between 5th and 6th in the conference and there's still a lot of catching up to do if Vandelay hopes to make the wildcard round.

This is a situation that I didn't think I'd be OK with around this time last season, as I've spent some time talking about how I don't know if playing my first season up wouldn't be worth it if the team didn't go anywhere. I think that it's hard to argue from an objective standpoint that this season brings some form of benefit to my career at all--I'm very likely going to end up with at the very least a worse overall record, a higher GAA, and a lower TPA cap than if I didn't go up.

But that said, it's time to get into the extremely open-ended and arguably stupid "what it means to be a rookie" part of this task. I know I've written things to this effect before, but I think it means a lot to be in my situation and still end up with a decent career. It's not like 8 seasons of success--not that I can guarantee that at the moment--has ever or will ever exclude someone from the Hall of Fame, and a losing first season theoretically shouldn't make any difference when the time comes to evaluate Vandelay against anyone else who stayed down (though I could see someone playing the "but worse winning percentage" card or something at some point).

Like I have also said before, the important part now is proving a point. With depreciation being weakened for skaters, this won't be as true in some situations, but I can see some people, especially those building goalies, being discouraged by the thought of coming up and playing in the VHL right away for fear of losing out on TPE. It's a mindset that will lead to many mega-hot prospects taking a season in the VHLE rather than doing what (in my opinion) they should do and come up as soon as possible. It's not entirely clear yet (and won't be for a while) whether a high-earning goalie should make the move up from a statistical standpoint, but the fact remains that Vandelay is one of the first with the opportunity to prove that coming up right away, even if the first season doesn't go great, can still lead to a very solid career when all is said and done.

Looking at some numbers, this season isn't entirely a failure, either! Vandelay has a SV% of 0.925 and a GAA of 2.82 with 3 shutouts, numbers which are really respectable considering the circumstances. I also just found out today that I'm now, by a slim margin, #1 in the S84 class in TPE. I'm not sure exactly how that happened, but I'll take it considering that at one point as a prospect, I was far from that mark. In a rare flash of self-confidence, I think I'm one of the people who could feasibly power-earn through an extra depreciation hit, and I really shouldn't be concerned about what happens in that regard since my build will cap out at a high level regardless. So, hopefully, other teams will find themselves Vandelay'd for a very long time, and those wondering whether or not to come up will take notice.

    Hey VHL @Members!

In case anyone isn't aware July 18th, 2007 is the day the VHL opened. "Umbrella" by Rihanna was topping the charts, the Anaheim Ducks were celebrating their Stanley Cup win, and the VHL was opening it's doors! That means today marks the league's official 15th birthday. Every year I'm surprised when I type this that it's been so long and this year is no exception as I will be marking the official point where I've been in the VHL longer than I was out of it within this calendar year; fucking crazy. You all didn't click on this to read about how old I am though, I've been around the block long enough to know that. You came in for the TPE and I intend on delivering it!

To commemorate the league's 15th birthday, we are giving all members a Triples Week, which adds 12 Uncapped TPE to any 6-TPE Point Task (Welfare/Pension/Affiliate PT are not included but as usual if your pay covers your PT that counts), as well as 3 Uncapped TPE. To claim these perks, which of course add up to 15 Uncapped TPE, all you need to do is post in this thread and then link to that post in your update; that's it! No scavenger hunt, no clues, no catches!

What's that? Uncapped TPE isn't enough for you? Well so be it, how about some prizes then!

Not only are we giving TPE away but once again we're also giving away some bonus items because what's a birthday without presents? Anyone who comments on this thread, thus getting the bonus mentioned above, will be entered into a draw for some prizes. Some will be league based, some will be real items. I'm not going to tell you what they are yet though, you just need to wait and see don't you? What I will say is in honour of the 15th anniversary there will be 15 winners!

So, to summarize quickly, that's 15 uncapped TPE just for commenting and doing a PT as well as some gifts at a later date curtesy of the VHL. All you have to do is post in here and you're good to go!

    Notes:
    • This thread will remain open until 11:59PM PST on Sunday, July 24th.
    • All claims for the birthday bonus must be made by the end of the playoffs this season.
    • Birthday perks may only be claimed on one player per member (IE if you are re-creating you can't claim them on your current player, re-create, and claim them again, pick one or the other).
    • No prizes can be exchanged for cash value however, as always, you may receive a prize from a lower "tier" if you prefer.
