  3. One last ride for Prague then it’s off to the retirement home
  4. If there was ever a player that resembled the Prague Phantoms in their entirety, Perry Laperriere would make an excellent case for it. With one season still left to play before he rides off into the sunset, Perry currently sits at 3rd overall in points, 6th overall in assists, 2nd overall in goals, 3rd overall in games played, 2nd in GWG, 2nd overall in shots, and 3rd overall in hits. Regarding playoff records for Prague, Laperriere sits in the top 4 for nearly every statistic besides SB and PIM. Besides hits, each of those regular season and playoff records for Prague could be broken by Laperriere at some point next season as the Phantoms try once again to push for a cup. Coming in as a S82 prospect, Perry played initially for the Philadelphia Reapers before entering his period of being drafted. In the VHLM, Perry would be drafted in the S81 VHLM draft 11th overall by the Ottawa Lynx. Criminally underrated in that draft and going behind the likes of Ragnar Hagstrom and Marshall Maxx, Laperriere was instrumental in helping Ottawa win the S81 Founder’s cup with a healthy 36 goals and 57 assists for a total of 93 points. In the S82 draft for the VHLE, Perry would join the Istanbul Redwolves initially before being traded to the Geneva Rush. While still putting up respectable numbers there, he was again underrated in that offense and pushed back to the 2nd line until he was traded back to Istanbul to round out the season. They never reached the playoffs. For the S82 VHL draft, Laperriere was selected behind the stars like Vasile Lamb and Ronan Lavelle where he went 11th overall to the Prague Phantoms. While it took him a season to find his footing, he never once put up less than 80 points after his rookie season. Prague’s consistent center continuously drove to make the team better and committed himself to the success of Prague. And just like Laperriere, Prague throughout the past few seasons has been underrated. They haven’t won a single award beyond the S88 Victory Cup for the best record in the VHL. They’ve made the playoffs 4 times in Laperriere’s Phantom tenure; they only made the finals once. With teams that should have at least resulted in 2-3 cups with Prague, they just couldn’t get it done. Like Prague, Laperriere just could never get it done. He certainly puts up points when needed and plays his heart out. But even with the consistent production, he and the team could just never capitalize on any hardware. He hasn’t won a single individual award throughout his career. He continues to be one of the most underrated players in the VHL, appearing in the Top 10 point list many times in multiple seasons only to stall and slip away while others out produced him. Could things have been different for Perry if he had done things differently? Might there have been a more successful career if he had played on other teams or chased cups through FA? Was there a chance at a HOF career with multiple accolades had he been drafted elsewhere? Honestly, we will never know. There will always be a big maybe surrounding that question. But if there’s one thing Perry knows he doesn’t regret, it’s his commitment to the Phantoms. The team has been good to him, allowing him to stay for his career and focusing their efforts on trying to get Laperriere that cup. While he may only have one last chance at a championship, one final ride to obtain those franchise records, one last season to achieve his dreams… he enters the Prague locker room each day with his head held high, proud of his career and the legacy he has left behind with the Phantoms.

  13. Good morning/good evening to you all, and welcome to a new segment from VSN Scouting: The Way Too Early S91 Mock Draft! Glancing way into the future of the S91 prospects, we have no idea what each team's draft selection in the draft will be. But boy is it fun to speculate, and this should provide a great way to track how prospects might be drafted in mock drafts as seasons progress. So without further ado, here's The Way Too Early S91 Mock Draft! 1 Helsinki Titans Callum Gary Yannick Janser @Daniel Janser D TPE: 143 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S89 Regular Season 25 4 9 13 -4 52 28 45 56 S89 Playoffs Winners of a hypothetical lottery for the S91 draft, Helsinki stands at a unique crossroads after this next season. They have some pieces with Daryl Dixon, Kronchy Kardashian, and Fuukka Rask, but the rest is a mix of young prospects, decent players about to be tarnished by depreciation, and aging veterans who are on their last legs. I can see them grabbing a defensemen after getting one in S90 and going with a strong candidate for the 1st overall pick in S91, Callum Gary Yannick Janser. He's a great user and has already solidified his past player as a future HOFer. He's a pure defensive defenseman with elite potential to achieve a great career who can stand beside Kardashian and provide a great defensive partner on this team. Even if YaBoi Oven is selected in the S90 draft, it would be very tempting to have a core centered around Doomsday, Garsh, and Daniel Janser. 2 Chicago Phoenix Grimgore Ironhide @FrostBeard LW TPE: 148 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S89 Regular Season 24 3 6 9 4 37 30 56 3 S89 Playoffs Chicago at this point is exiting its competing window, and they'll be looking to add some good prospects in the S91 draft. While two players are essentially equal here at this pick, I think Chicago looks to add Frostbeard's player to solidify a future leader for the Phoenix. Ironhide is a strong two-way player with high elite potential to have an outstanding career as well. While some could argue for a different pick here, I think with Warsaw sitting at the next pick and the future GM of Chicago looking to bolster their own team, I'm leaning towards Ironside at 2. Liv Slater is the only notable future piece on the team at this moment, and with the addition of their S90 1st draft selection, the forward group could be further bolstered with Grimgore Ironhide. 3 Warsaw Predators Thor Reingaard @N0HBDY RW TPE: 150 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S89 Regular Season 24 5 6 11 1 41 12 31 5 S89 Playoffs As if the stars align and all goes according to plan, Warsaw enters the S91 draft with the 3rd overall pick primed to select an obvious choice. They'll waste no time selecting the GM's own player, Thor Reingaard. Almost equal to Ironhide, Reingaard looks to be a slightly better goal scorer that can really continue the rebuild for Warsaw. A disappointing S89 season will lead to a number of players retiring or leaving the team, meaning S90 and beyond will need to focus on adding key pieces of their future core. What better way to solidify that core than to grab a player who will more than likely remain with Warsaw their entire career. Reingaard is an easy choice here at 3. 4 New York Americans Lionel Collberg @Masu Chan D TPE: 131 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S89 Regular Season 24 5 11 16 6 49 14 39 22 S89 Playoffs S89 led to a playoff finish, which means the Americans finally get to dance for the cup. But they do so on the back of 2 retirements, meaning the next few seasons won't be as successful. They do have some core pieces, but New York may make use of the players on their current roster and sell to enter a more fruitful rebuild. They need more pieces to surround Jesper Davis, Mancini, Tord Yvel, and Westwood. At their position in the S90 draft, they'll most likey draft a forward, so defense could be a focus here. With the 4th pick, Lionel Collberg would be a perfect addition to that stellar core. Masu Chan is an excellent user to add to that locker room, providing a strong choice for New York in the S91 draft. 5 Toronto Legion Sunset Moth @McWolf D TPE: 135 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S89 Regular Season 21 2 8 10 1 18 24 31 45 S89 Playoffs Toronto does have some pieces to continue working with, and their prospect pool is deep. But out of the 16 prospects they have...1 is a defensemen. And they haven't updated since early June. So defense should be a focus. While there is a significant chance they get Moon's own player in the S90 draft, I still think they pick another defensemen here to add a piece on the blue line. Enter Sunset Moth, McWolf's return to glory. He's a strong defensemen who specializes in the defensive zone with medium elite probability to have a great career, which will be a vital piece for Toronto as they add another key player for their future. 6 London United Spanish Moon Moth @Renomitsu C TPE: 136 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S89 Regular Season 21 0 6 6 5 15 6 19 6 S89 Playoffs London enters the S91 draft after barely making the S89 playoffs and just missing in S90 with an aging core centered arount Triller, Molly the Cat, and Igor Molotov. Most of their prospects are earning at a slower pace, so there will need to be an addition that can earn and become a future leader. At the 6th overall pick, London does just that and grabs Spanish Moon Moth, the 2nd of moths in this draft. This is another player with medium elite potential to have a great career and focuses on all aspects of offensive play with their build, akin to a playmaker. Renomitsu will bring a great presence to that locker room as London prepares to transition to their future team along with their S90 selections. 7 Los Angeles Stars Leif Reingaard @Zetterberg D TPE: 112 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S89 Regular Season 24 4 8 12 4 16 18 23 13 S89 Playoffs The Stars in S91 will be looking to draft for their future. The forward core loses 2 great pieces in S90 and needs to overhaul their defensive core greatly. While they already have Pope Francis, they'll need another big defensive player to join him on the blue line. At this position, they could go in a few directions, since they can also use the help at forward and at goalie. But I don't they pass up the opportunity to grab Leif Reingaard. He's a medium elite potential offensive defensemen who should have a fantastic career in the VHL, and his early stats point in that direction. A player like that needs to be added to herald in the next wave of the Los Angeles Stars. 8 Moscow Menace Red Panda @Lemorse7 G TPE: 111 Season GP W L OTL SV% GAA SO GA SA S89 Regular Season 15 3 6 3 0.912 3.14 0 40 457 S89 Playoffs Moscow gets to pick at 8 thanks to a Trade in the S89 draft with Malmo. With this selection, Moscow can go a few different ways. They have some prospects and their current core is aging. I have no doubts that trades will be made to ensure they try to remain competitive, but there isn't a goalie prospect available on their roster. I think with Red Panda sitting right there at 8, Moscow pulls the trigger on grabbing their potential goalie of the future. While Panda was on a less than stellar Miami team this past season, they still put up some decent numbers as a goalie, indicating that they will have an excellent chance to improve with more time. Additionally, he's a great user in the locker which Moscow would love to have, allowing the Menace to solidify the goalie position for their future. I firmly believe Moscow goes with Red Panda here amongst the other selections available. 9 Los Angeles Stars Theo Allard @InstantRockstar C TPE: 109 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S89 Regular Season 21 2 4 6 -2 16 6 14 3 Another selection for Los Angeles, and this one is an easy one to make. Looking back at those forwards lost and the low amount of prospects as of now means the Stars need to add big selections for their future. And just like Warsaw, what better prospect to add than the GM's own player, Theo Allard. One of the younger players on a star studded Mexico City team, Allard looks ready to possibly make the jump up to the E after this season and continue on a trek that will improve their production. Rockstar would be hard pressed to pass on a prospect so closely aligned to the GM here for the Stars' future, and I think the selection of Theo Allard here makes a lot of sense. 10 Riga Reign Rin Kagamine @Rin D TPE: 73 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S89 Regular Season 20 2 7 9 -2 18 26 41 26 Riga needs defense. There isn't a single defensive prospect here and they don't have many defensive choices at their position in the S90 draft. At this position, I see a standout user here who could really form the future of Riga if their earning continues: Rin Kagamine. On a decent Halifax team, they still put up 9 points while being under 100 TPE playing. Looking to be an offensive defensemen, this is the type of future piece to mold a new core around if Riga decides to commit to a full rebuild after the next couple of seasons. The sky is the limit here, and I really think this would be the best selection for Riga given their needs on defense. 11 HC Davos Dynamo Toby Kadachi @ROOKIE745 LW TPE: 133 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S89 Regular Season 22 1 3 4 5 13 20 25 1 Davos is sitting right now as a top contender. But with 3 players and a back up goalie retiring at the end of the S89 campaign, they'll be looking to bring in new talent and prospects in both S90 and S91. Their current prospect pool is deep, so in this draft I can see them making the playoffs but falling short of a cup. At this position in the draft, they'll be looking to take the best player available. They won't have to look very long. Toby Kadachi looks like a steal in the middle of the 1st round with his earning and potential. A solid all around build resembling a two-way forward, Kadachi would add a great piece to the future of Davos. I don't think Alex would take too long to deliberate on this selection. 12 Helsinki Titans Joshua Schwarzer @Velevra LW TPE: 113 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S89 Regular Season 20 3 5 8 0 30 0 29 2 Helsinki selects again in this draft and again gets to add a great piece for their future. A returning user with a solid goal scoring build should prove vital for the Helsinki rebuilding efforts. Joshua Schwarzer is definitely one of the best selections at this position of the draft and would most definitely compliment the selection of a defenseman with the 1st overall pick. Playing with Philadelphia, they'll know what it takes to succeed and put up points regardless of which line they're on. Adding Schwarzer will add another piece for a future competitive Titans roster. 13 Prague Phantoms Mina @Baozi D TPE: 106 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S89 Regular Season 24 0 2 2 8 9 0 26 23 Prague selects next, and they honestly could go one of two ways. They have a decently sized prospect pool, with both forwards and defensemen. They have a goalie in Gauthier who hasn't earned since late June. Faced with a choice, I think Acyd sticks with his own goalie and looks to select a forward/defenseman here. And his choice ultimately comes down to selecting Mina. Also residing on the Philadelphia Reapers, Mina looks to be a solid all around defensemen, boasting defensive prowness but being available to contribute offensively when needed. Now this selection may ultimately depend on what Prague decides to do in the S90 draft, but given the knowledge availabe at the time of this way too early mock draft, Mina will be the player selected here. 14 Seattle Bears Behrens Minion @UnknownMinion LW TPE: 101 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S89 Regular Season 20 1 3 4 5 16 8 11 2 Seattle falls short of making it to the finals, but does still field a competitive team. While they do have some players retiring after S89, Bana has proven to be able to put together a winning roster time and time again. And to have a fairly nice selection down at 14 is another gift for the Bears. To Seattle walks Behrens Minion. The potential is there, the earning is of course there. But will he remain complacent with Seattle? I think Bana does a great job with enticing players to play for Seattle, and Minion will be pleased to wear the Bear and represent Seattle's future. 15 Vancouver Wolves David Slezak @ShawnGlade G TPE: 103 Season GP W L OTL SV% GAA SO GA SA S89 Regular Season 3 1 2 0 0.824 4.72 0 13 74 S89 Playoffs Vancouver having a first here probably won't happen. They'll find a way to trade it away to someone else to get another player, as is the Frank way. However, since they still have it at this time, they'll be making a selection here. For their future, things look bleak. There's no pick in S90, and no prospect in sight on their roster. So assuming they don't do anything else, the Wolves will need to select for their future. And out of the choices available, I think they accept the fact of selecting a goalie here rather than a forward with David Slezak. He's a young goalie on a powerhouse Reapers team, having only played 3 games. But his potential as a starting goalie is quite high. Could they be a franchise level goalie? Only time will tell, but I think this is the way this pick swings in the S91 draft for Vancouver. 16 Moscow Menace Bubba Tree @Bubba LW TPE: 62 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S89 Regular Season 20 4 1 5 -5 41 4 30 3 S89 Playoffs Congratulations to Moscow for winning a hypothetical S90 championship! They get to add another piece to their future after selecting 8th overall with Malmo's pick. And here is where I think Moscow grabs a steal of the draft if their earning continues. I've been impressed with the efforts both on and off the ice by Bubba, and I think Moscow will see this potential selecting at 16. While on a decent Halifax team, he still managed to score 4 goals in 20 games as a lower TPE player. If that trend continues throughout Bubba's future, Moscow could be looking at a premier goal scorer flying under the radar of conventional selections. It's a gamble to be sure, but I like this player being selected at 16 and think he would prove beneficial to the future of Moscow.
