15th Annual Unofficial VHL Regular Season Awards – S80
Another exciting regular season has come to a close. That means we can dole out some regular season awards! Welcome everyone to the 15th Annual Unofficial VHL Regular Season Awards honoring the highs and lows of S80! Thank you to everyone that reads this.
These awards have been created by me. There is no voting process and they are not officially recognized by the VHL Board of Governors. I wrote descriptions for most of these award names in the original award post.
For each award, I list the winners from the last 5 seasons. If you want to check out the award winners from every season, use this link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1sAZtX3bxVpPTIsKe1rSRVOenH1-iyWzbQEdR9ZvYOdU/edit?usp=sharing
I also document the “all-time” record for each category. Of course, by that I mean all-time for the existence of these awards, not all-time, all-time. Clear? Ok, good. Let’s get things underway!
The Pylon Award (worst +/- rating) – Nathan Steele @73MPL4R
For the first time in a while bots got a lot of lot of ice time and they challenged for this category. Humans showed the bots whose boss and won this award in a spectacular fashion. Nathan Steele beat out teammate Lenny Sanderson @Gally by -1 to not only win the award but become the new all-time record holder with a -77 on the season!

The Gandhi Award (least penalty minutes, min 1,000 minutes played) – Jakob Sosa @TMGSosa
For the first time in 3 seasons, someone not on London wins this award. Sosa had 0 PIM in 2,052 Minutes Played. London’s perennial favorite The Terrible Trivium @der meister ruined their chances at this award when they received a fighting major after being goaded into a kerfuffle. Presumably after being slapped by the opponent’s glove and challenged to a bout of fisticuffs.

The Major2 Award (most major penalties) - Julian Nousiainen @okochastar
In what will likely be the most amazing stat line to ever win this award, Nousiainen had 50 PIM from 10 major penalties yet only had 1 minor penalty the entire season to end with 52 total PIM. Now that is someone committed to winning this award!

The “Hit the Broadside of the Barn” Award (most own shots blocked) - Asher Reinhart @rjfryman
I don’t think it’s much of surprise that Asher took home this award and set the all-time record while doing so (169 own shots blocked). What is surprising is how close the second-place player was. That Dude @Cornholio was only 5 blocked shots behind, with 164 of their shots blocked.

I just posted a media spot for this theme week.

I don't really keep up with NHL but I always cheer for the bruins because my boyfriend does lol

I wouldn't get drafted at all, I cant even hold a stick properly.

I don't really watch any sports, but teach me how to play any sport and ill try my best to beat you in a game.
6. Are you a dog or cat person? If neither, what animal is your favourite?
I love both and all animals, but if I had to choose one to get as a pet first, then I would want a dog.

chikn got a reaction from SpicyGecko in After retirement
Chicken Wing only has 2 more seasons left until she retires, then after that her hockey career is over. Of course, she still plans on playing some hockey just for fun with friends and family, but she will no longer be required to eat healthy and exercise and dedicate her life to VHL.
After Chicken Wing retires she plans to go on many vacations and travel the world. Ever since Wing joined the VHL, she always planned that the first thing she would do when she retired was to go back home to Poland and spend at least a year there with her family before traveling. But, Considering she is now back in her hometown playing for the Warsaw Predators, she sees her family all the time and they always attend her home games, so therefore Wing plans to start her travels as soon as she retires. First, she plans on visiting Japan, as that had always been her dream travel destination. This is a gorgeous country, especially in the spring when the cherry blossom trees are blooming; it would be amazing to have a picnic outside with the new and interesting Japanese snacks and awesome scenery. Victoria, British Columbia is another destination she wishes to travel to, as she has never been there and heard it was very beautiful and a great vacation spot. While there are many countries and cities she wishes to vacation to, these are just two spots among the many that Chicken Wing plans to travel to first.
Once Chicken Wing has traveled to most of her dream destinations, she plans on settling down in Canada and having a family. With her money saved up, she plans on putting her kids into hockey and any other sport they wish to pursue, but hoping they follow in her footsteps and join the VHL just like her. Of course, before her kids go off to college, join the VHL, or wherever they may go, she plans on vacationing as a family to all the places she hasn't been yet, or taking them to her favorite travel destinations. Wing's retirement plan mostly consists of traveling, so even after her kids move out, she plans to travel to many more places, just her and her husband.
Now onto the things Chicken Wing plans on buying after she retires. After buying a house with her family in Canada, she plans on buying three cars, her first car will be a Lamborghini which she will use for driving around town. Her second car will be a Jeep for going to the beach and off-roading with the roof down and doors off on those hot summer days. Last but not least she needs a car for her family, so she will have to have an SUV which is family friendly and good for traveling.
Chicken Wing plans on having a happy, and definitely not boring retirement. To keep herself and her kids occupied when they're not traveling. There will definitely be an arcade room in her house, along with a skating rink where her and her friends and family can play hockey anytime they want, and much more, as she did play in the VHL (and VHLM) for 10 years before retiring, which made her wealthy enough to buy anything her heart desired.

1. Warsaw sits 3rd in the EU conference with a 5-3-1 record. Have we been playing well or should we be doing better?
I think we've been doing well. The last few sims have been a bit of a bust, but I believe in our team!
2. What has been a key role to our winning record.
I think our defense has been doing a good job at keeping the puck away from the net.
3. How has your player performed through the first sim?
Not bad, but I think I could do better.
4. Malmo currently owns first place in the league, will they take home another Victory Cup? (Best Regular Season Record)
Probably, they're the best team in the league right now.
5. How do you think our team looks? Anyone we should add? Trade?
We could probably use a few more stronger players, but we cant have it all so I think I'm happy with the team we have.
6. If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go?
I really want to go to Japan, and also Poland.

I can check when I wake up to see if Blazzer made a later night/early morning pick, but if a pick is made when I'm at work I can't guarantee I'll get back before the 12 hour stretch. Go ahead and skip me, but don't DQ me as I will make a pick after getting home.

Sorry, group.
These shifts are killing me.
I literally wake up, go to work, come home and sleep; rinse and repeat.
I know the rules are x skips and you're gone, but give me some leeway and I'll get it done.

chikn got a reaction from AJW in Warsaw Predators Press Conference
1. The S80 VHL draft wrapped up last night, what are your thoughts on Warsaw's picks?
I think Warsaw did a great job at making picks!
2. What will S80 look like for Warsaw? We had our draft and a couple free agency signings so we do have a core.
I think we have potential to make that last playoff spot.
3. The S79 Awards also happened last night, any surprises? Is there someone who should have won an award that didn't?
I haven't really looked much into who won all the awards, but for the most part I think everyone who got an award deserved it.
4. The VHLE expansion draft goes on tonight. Which VHLE team do you want to win the draft (is your favourite if you have one)?
I personally don't really care which team wins the draft, but I think its going to be interesting to see what happens and who gets drafted where.
5. A sad day for Warsaw as 6 season long veteran Aloe Dear tested the free agency and ended up signing with the D.C. Dragons. Any thoughts on Dear and their great career so far?
He defiantly would have been a good asset for our team, but I wish him well in D.C.
6. Most important question: How was your weekend?
Its been good, school started so I've just been doing homework and relaxing.

chikn reacted to Rhynex Entertainment in New York Americans Offseason Prep to Season 80
New York Americans Offseason Prep to Season 80
Big week for the New York Americans. Not only do the New York Americans have a new bench boss and General Manager in @MexicanCow123, as big tenure boss and New York legend @Esso2264 steps down after a big dozen seasons as General Manager of the New York Americans, the Americans also made a few big changes to the roster heading in to the 80th season of the VHL.
To begin, the New York Americans trimmed their roster down to a line up of 5 forwards, 3 defense, and one goaltender, and then they traded away their Season 80 first round, 3rd overall pick (which turns up becoming Saku Kotkakoivu @DollarAndADream ), and a conditional Season 81 first round pick to the Calgary Wranglers, for two Season 80 third round picks (Calgary's and their very own New York's 3rd round picks; which were used to draft Left Winger Ernie King Jr @Greg Ernest 40th overall and Defenseman NineIQPro @NineIQ v2 37th overall respectively), Superstar Forward Left Winger Luke Thornton @Jtv1233 and also the return of former New York American and fan favourite Star Defenseman Cowboy Prout @Prout. Making their roster heading into Season 80 with a standard 6 forwards, 4 defense and one goaltender.
Returning forwards include Center Phoenix Dawson @Toast and Right Winger Jon Webber @Webberj, both returning for their second season with the Americans. Center Calvin Hobbes @2hawk will return for his third season, their Captain and superstar Right Winger Red Lite @Tate will return for his 5th season, and finally after signing a lifer and retirement package contract, aging star Center Rhynex Entertainment @Rhynex Entertainment will return for his 6th season.
In defense, it was interesting to see the New York Americans let go of star Defenseman Chicken Wing @chikn. They will bring back The Loch Ness Monster @LuluSalesAway for his second sophomore season, Kosmo Kramerev @Mongoose87 for his 3rd season with the Americans, and star defenseman Zeedayno Chara @Jubis for this 4th season as a New York American.
Finally, the New York Americans bring back their superstar in the making goaltender Thadius Sales @thadthrasher, who has a lot to prove as he tries to make it into the playoffs for the second time in his 5th season in the VHL.
With the roster near completion, there will be a lot of noise coming in the big apple as the New York Americans have high expectations in making the playoffs again, after missing out again in season 79 of the VHL. There will also be little excuses for their veteran Center Rhynex Entertainment to not return to form, with his rapid decline in play over the past seasons, especially with the addition of Luke Thornton making it two superstar wingers for the former Vladimir Boomchenko Trophy winner to pass to. However, one might say Center Phoenix Dawson might be taking the reigns as the team's top center, so we may see an even bigger decline in production to the Entertainer, who has been a consistent 30+ goal scorer and point per game producer. All in all, we know this will be a very interesting and possibly the most entertaining season coming up for the New York Americans. In hopes for a very long season in New York. Go NYA Go!

chikn reacted to NickSunderbruch in Good Or Bad #4 New York Americans
So last time on Good or Bad, I listed London United as Good, and rightfully so as currently they are second place in their conference. But this time I'm going over a team that's already looking good, but I'll still try my best to label them as either GOOD or BAD.
So today we're looking at the New York Americans, who are currently tied for 3rd place in the North American Conference with 27 wins 22 losses and 4 OT losses for a total of 58 points. This teams record might not look amazing as it's just a bit over a .500 win percentage, but you gotta remember that the NA conference is being absolutely DOMINATED by Seattle and Chicago. So without any further delays, lets take a gander at this team.
FORWARDS:
Ryan Schwarz, TPA 765 LW @Enorama
Red Lite, TPA 750 RW @Tate
Rhynex Entertainment, TPA 741 C @Rhynex Entertainment
RJ Thatcher, TPA 455 RW @jhatty8
Nathan Steele, TPA 375 C @73MPL4R
Calvin Hobbes, TPA 361 C @2hawk
Brussels Sprout, TPA 298 C @Liberty_Cabbage
DEFENSE:
Chicken Wing, TPA 645 @chikn
Kosmo Kramerev, TPA 683 @Mongoose87
Tanky, TPA 353 @TXC
Zeedayno Chara, TPA 512 @Jubis
Goalie:
Thadius Sales, TPA 746 @thadthrasher
The following Average TPA for these positions are as follows;
FORWARDS: 535
DEFENSE: 548
This team has a lot of talent on the top end of the lineup, and the rookies and younger players seem to make up the lower half of the list, dragging the TPA totals down a little bit, however that's not a bad thing at all. This team as a young core coming in and developing, while also maintaining an awesome goalie, and a very solid defensive core. This team is solid, and I think they could surprise us all with a deep playoff run this year. They also have nearly eight million dollars in cap space still. This team was the bottom of the league a few seasons ago, and now it appears that they've shrugged that off and continued pushing forward to a third place position in their conference.
I see almost no real glaring problems with this team, it's built smart and it's built by a GM who obviously knows what he's doing. So a quick hats off to @Esso2264for putting together this roster as well as they have. I think this team has more than what it takes to do well not only in this season but many more to come, dare I say... Dynasty? I don't think I could label this team as bad, and I think that it's more than fair to give them a GOOD, and potentially even a GREAT.
Want to know what else is great about this team? While Seattle and Chicago are expected to win big, this team isn't and still does anyways. I don't see any team in NA beating them, and we'll see how long of a run they can go on this post season, and we'll see what moves they make in the offseason as well.
Anyways I hear my dad coming home from the bar, I'd better grab my helmet, jockstrap, and mouthguard. Stay warm and stay Icey seacrest out.
