I've been following hockey for long enough now to notice a few things about certain countries' naming habits. One country that I've been interested in is Sweden, because of the pattern I've seen in Swedish last names. What I've found is that there are usually two parts to a Swedish surname, the first and the last. There aren't any set few that make up these groups, it's just out there that a lot of Swedish last names have two parts. I'll use some NHL players as examples. John Klingberg. First part: Kling. Second part: Berg. I've found that Berg is a fairly common name in Sweden, as the first part and the last part of names. Kling must be rare, as I haven't seen it twice. But Berg is there to help prove my theory. Erik Karlsson. Now, these types of names are slightly more confusing. It comes from an old Scandinavian tradition where, if a father were named, say, Lars, his son's surname would be Lars-son or Larsson. This applies here, as probably way back Erik had a relative named Karl, who had a son who's surname was Karlsson. Nicklas Backstrom. Strom is another pretty popular Swedish name, usually on the last part of the surname. It's where I got the strom from Linus Zetterstrom from, and you see it quite often when looking at Swedish hockey players, at least. Henrik Zetterberg. This is a mash up of Zetter, which is almost always the first part, and Berg. I used Zetter becase I thought it was used slightly less than some of the other parts, and it went well with Strom. Patric Hornqvist. Then there's the Qvist, pronounced quist. Also used for Henrik Lundqvist, it's again one of the barely rarer variants of the names. Hampus Lindholm. Lindholm, I find, is an extremely common Swedish last name. It combines Lind, which is, again, a common first part name, and Holm, a decently common last part. I've seen quite a few Lindholms in my hockey watching days Mikael Backlund. While Back is fairly common, the reason I chose Mikael was his second part, Lund. Lund is also an ordinary second part name. Carl Soderberg. The final variation of Swedish names that I'm going to go into today is Soder. Used with Carl Soderberg and Victor Soderstrom, among others, it's kind of an odd sounding name but it goes well with a lot of other parts. And that brings me to when I was naming my player. I liked the first name Linus, which I thought wasn't too common with hockey players, and I made up my own Swedish surname. I used 'Zetter' and 'Strom' to make Zetterstrom, a name that I really like. So that's the story of how I named my player. 463 words

Hey guys. I'm cutting my claims of my rookie of the year article so I could reap the reward of theme week, 6 free TPE. Props to @thadthrasher for coming up with the genius idea of the vacation theme, This means I don't have to come up with an idea for an article, which is also great. I love writing em, but sometimes you get writer's block. It happens. Anyway, to the article. As some of you must know by now, I am Canadian. But my player is Swedish, so some people automatically assume that I'm Swedish, too. But I'm not. I just thought that Swedish names sounded cool, and after looking at some names of Swedish NHL players I crafted the kickass name Linus Zetterstrom (which is actually pronounced "Lee-nus instead of Lie-nus, which is also unfortunately butchered by almost every single American and Canadian who doesn't know crap about European names). And I'll probably do a vhl.com article about how I think Swedish names work, but that's gonna be later. For now, vacation time. This is what this is: a Canadian guy writing an article about his fake Swedish hockey simulation player going on a vacation to Canada. I read what I just wrote and I'm going to take a break and do something productive. It's the final Friday before March Break, and Linus Zetterstrom and his brother Jesper are going to Canada for a vacation. Linus has a break from his pro hockey with the Riga Reign, and Jesper is taking the week off from university. Older brother Henrik is tied up with work, so Jesper and Linus are on their own. Either way, there destinations remain the same. Their journey starts at the Stockholm airport. From there, they will make 6 stops to some of the most popular tourist destinations in Canada. They will see some of the best Canada has to offer, and let me tell you, it's no little amount. Destination 1: St Johns, Newfoundland A beautiful little town hidden all the way east in Newfoundland is St Johns. Linus and Jesper arrive at the St Johns airport and go to their motel to drop off their bags. Right after that, they head to a bar and undergo the St Johns' tourist tradition: kissing a cod. Yes. Kissing a fish on the lips. It's a tradition, and it's unique to St Johns by my understanding. I personally have never done it, and have no desire to. But it must be a funny little thing to do after a few drinks. With that disgusting taste still lingering in their mouths, they head out on a whale-watching expedition, where they can see a humpback whale or two, and a pod of orcas. Quebec, Quebec It looks like a 1800s castle village. I just finished a bunch of history lessons on old Canada, and it turns out it actually was a 1800s castle village. Which is cool. Anyway, Linus and Jesper are flown in from St Johns to Quebec, where they once again drop their bags off at their motel and go out to explore the city. They mourn the Nordiques at the Centre Videotron by watching a Remparts game, and then go hiking at Montmorency Falls, which they nor I had ever heard of before doing some quick research. Pretty cool, I have to say. Toronto, Ontario I personally have been to Toronto too many times to count, as I live around half an hour away. It's a great city, at least the parts I've seen. Jesper and Linus get off their flight at the Lester B Pearson airport, which is actually freaking ginormous, and head to a hotel to drop off their bags. First things first, they go up the CN Tower. It's really not the biggest attraction Toronto has to offer, and I've only been up once, when I was like 2. But it's still cool. They then go the aquarium right beside the tower, which is also cool. Finally, they reluctantly catch a Leafs game, because the Mississauga Steelheads were out of town. ^Bottom view. Actually terrifying, from experience. Churchill, Manitoba In way north of Manitoba, I think close to Hudson's Bay, is Churchill. Renowned for it's polar bears. I've never been, but I really want to go. Linus and Jesper, as usual, get off the airport and chuck their luggage into a motel. Before they go see the polar bears, though, they head to the Itsanitaq Museum, which I actually had to do research to find. It's a collection of Inuit carvings and other neat stuff. After they finish off admiring that, they head out to a polar bear expedition. I believe you can go out in a sort of massive jeep and the polar bears will sometimes come right up to you. Seems like something I'd want to do eventually. Banff, Alberta Again, I've never been myself, but my mom grew up in Calgary and told my how awesome Banff was. Apparently, it's a town right beside/in the Rockies, and it has a spectacular view of mountains, and of course, skiing. Banff is known for it's crazy cool skiing, and it's the first thing Linus and Jesper do once they get there. After they're done skiing and are freezing cold and ready to warm up, they're heading right back out for a gondola tour, right over the mountains themselves. It makes for great photos and an amazing view. Last stop: Whitehorse, Yukon The quaint little Northern town of Whitehorse is a sight to see. First things first, Linus and Jesper head to the Yukon Wildlife Preserve, which has some animals where you'll have trouble finding anywhere south of here. They catch glimpses of moose, musk oxen, caribou, and other wildlife that thrive in the freezing cold forests of Yukon. After they return, awed by the magnificent creatures, they are blown away by Aurora Borealis, or the Northern lights. It looks magical, all the bright green and blue lights dancing in the sky. I've only ever seen it once, but I would love to see it again. That brings us to the end of Linus and Jesper's trip. From one side of Canada to the other, they have seen a lot of the most awing parts of the country. But not even close the amount that they have yet to see. There's only one way to fix that-coming back! But for now, they prepare for the 19 hour flight that comes next...... 1,080 words. I think I've written enough, and I don't want everyone to think I purposefully made it just over 1,000 so I can claim for two weeks. Claiming for week ending 02,14

This is my tier list for this, and I fully expect you to rip me apart on the next 3PPAO, even though you just did one. Now, the justifications: Gen chat. What a beast of a channel. Where all the shit goes down. GOAT channel hands down Banned channel. This was an absolute gem when I stumbled on it for the first time. I agree with y'all, the reactions are priceless. Great channel Graphic discussion. I don't do graphics, but sometimes there are cool graphics in there. Newcomers help. It doesn't get used that often but it's useful when it does. VHL scoreboard. This would be B tier if Riga kept losing, but now it makes me happy sometimes because we might make the playoffs. Puppers spam. Mostly just Eno's doggo, but no one's complaining. I occasionally throw some pics of my pup in there, but it's just cute. Bonus to thad rescuing that dog, that was amazing. NHL scoreboard. The Habs did good for a while, so i was refreshing to look at the games. Also who fucking cares about where the links take you. The scores are there Fitness. It's important to some people, which is great. I think I have one post total in there, but it's a solid B tier VSN. You guys hate on this for no reason. Some of the articles are actually good. Writers discussion. Totally a self promotion channel, and totally useless. But I do my self promoting there, so it's fine Flavorrtown Again, I never go in it, but some people do. That's all VHLM scoreboard. I don't care anymore, but I guess it's good for the younglings. VHLM channel. Actually a garbage channel, but I guess you need someplace to flex your stats Announcements. Dumpster fire. Never used. Draft central. Just some doofuses(doofi?) spamming DRAFT HYPE over and over again. I do it too, but it's bs Stonks. I can't go in and even if I could, I don't understand any of it. Gaming hangout. I don't play league of legends. So it's grapefruit Naruto channel. Didn't know this was a thing. Rules. Have only ever read em once. Muff likes em for some weird reason. ??? Thunderdome. Since I made my age too fucking young I can't even go into the fucking thunderdome. I haven't talked to Dil in months. Trash Trivia hunt. Knew this existed but completely ignored it. Sorry victor

RIGA REIGN PRESS CONFERENCE Week Ending 02/14 1. Once again, we find ourselves staring at some sour sims. We're only 5 points behind Malmo, who has the wildcard spot right now. Do you think we can catch them? 2. Some crazy trades went around, including a three way trade with Davos, London, and Vancouver involving Kevin King and SS Hornet. Thoughts? 3. Mikko Lahtinen is on track to win yet another award in his long and successful career. Is he a first ballot hall of famer? 4. The trade deadline is coming up, and we've gotten few trade offers. Is there any moves you think we should look into? 5. Our very own Cabe McJake now leads all rookies in scoring, and six out of ten players on the leaderboard are Reign players. Do we have a rookie of the year in the house? 6. With FrostBeard resigning, a new GM position opens up. Who would you recommend for the job? 7. Is a hot dog a sandwich? 8. Who was your favourite NHL team growing up? Or favourite sports team? 9. How many chickens would it take to kill an elephant?

I know I'm probably way out of my league here, but I'm throwing my name into the hat for the new opening. I know for certain I won't get the job, but I know from experience that you should just apply for everything. I have so many people I'd like to recommend for the job, but just a few I've seen here are @Ricer13, who I think really deserves a shot at this, @thadthrasher, who's an awesome guy and has already created a great vibe in San Diego. Lastly, I want to recommend @Spartan for this job. He's built an amazing environment in Las Vegas, and he knows how to manage a team. He's always super active on forums and discord, and is a fantastic guy.

Hey Frostbeard. We don't really know each other and you probably don't know who I am. But I hope everything's fine with your personal life, and I respect you for taking time off. You built a hell of a team in Malmo, and went out with a bang! Anyways, have a great day. The VHL community thanks you for your service.

Since I became the AGM of the Riga Reign about a quarter into this season, I've actually had a responsibility to do stuff in this league for the first time. While I did enjoy doing my own thing, earning TPE and posting crap in discord at random, I think it's become even more rewarding to be in charge, at least sort of, of a team of players which includes my own. I have one of the best GMs in the league in @hedgehog337 as my mentor and partner, and fantastic players and just fantastic people like @Matt thunder, @tcookie, and @youloser1337, who've been really fun to chat with in our LR. Overall, it's been an amazing experience, and I have a feeling it's going to take a turn for the better as I approach my first big milestone, the S77 VHL entry draft. Just today, I sent out my first few interviews to some potential draftees, and anticipating their responses is really nerve-wracking. I remember being a draftee myself, back in S75, and I thought answering questions was just that. But now I know that those answers that you give can determine whether or not a team will add you to their priority list. So, needless to say, it's a lot more stressful this time around. 216 words

Review: Although I'm used to Timmies donuts and have only eaten Krispy Kreme once in my life, this is amazing. The bold and the tiny logos are a nice touch, and I really love the Legion, Americans, and the Wolves selected donuts. Great job! 9/10

Saskatoon’s Hlozek Starts to Make His Mark on VHLM
Ledge replied to Bojovnik's topic in Archived Media Spots
Review: I cannot believe this came from someone so new to the league. This is the gold standard for media spots. The links to related sources, the connection to your past article, the recognition of teammates, the images. I can't think of anything you can improve. 10/10 -
@Ricer13 Do ya have a preferance?

does this mean I get the article?

@Victor if there's an opening, I'll also gladly take on an article
