The idea simple came about since I didn't think a 1500 word response to someone else media post would have been respectable as he came up the idea and deserves the credit for writing his article. No need to steal the thunder.

youloser1337 reacted to Gaikoku-hito in Rituals
Response to Justin Lose @youloser1337 article rituals as he was curious what other rituals other players have before games:

Day before games: Light morning skate working puck skill drills, power play and technical aspects of my game that needs a bit of work. Small lunch as I am looking to detox a bit so usually I am looking at Salad with chicken or tuna salad, lite dressing or now dressing. Afternoon nap followed by an afternoon skate with the team more edge work drills with or without the puck. Will also work on hand eye, tipping pucks and quick plays around the net again focus on skate work and edges. Small supper again salad as I am still detoxing the day before the game. Usually more protein in take to repair some of the body so sesame chicken salad or chick peas and tuna salad. This is followed by a gym work-out to stretch some of the muscles and work on any nicks and bangs that I might be working through. Followed by hot bath, sauna or hot springs bath to relax. Massage and then off to bed around 9pm.

Puck skill drills done usually in the morning skate

Game Day: Wake up around 9am or 10am depending on how much my body wants as no alarms are set. Grab a quick protein based breakfast with ham, sausage and eggs. Try not to eat bread or hash browns as they will slow you down later in the day so straight protein and limited to no carbs. Skate in the morning at around 11am for 30-45mins again focus on puck skills and quick plays around the net just to reinforce the aspects I was working on the day before. Followed by pre-game meal pasta. Followed with afternoon nap for an hour or two then I head to the rink for the game. I am usually arrive 3hrs before a game starts. Usually a quick meeting with the coach to go over film of the other team and other teams goalies tenancies. Stretch and eye focus drills. Dress Left to right starting with my skates. Lower completed I will stretch to work out any sore muscles, maybe see the trainer if I require extra attention followed by taping my sticks as I listen to music to pump me up for the game. I am more an 80's rock type of guy and based on the song that is playing when I finish taping my six sticks is the name of that stick. Why six sticks? One for warm-up usually the first stick taped, one for the first period, one for the second and one for the third, one spare if I break on during the game and one for over-time should it be required. Sticks are marked simple by number and song name so #1 Eye of a tiger = Warm-up, #2 Black Betty = First period, #3 Thunderstuck = Second etc..... First on the ice during warm-up and first off the ice or at least leave the ice with a minute left in warm-up. Always shot left high, left low, Right high and right low in that order and won't progress to the other shooting area until I score. So must score Left high before I shoot left low and must score left low before I move to right high. If I score in all four locations It usually means I am going to have a great game. Stand at the left side boards when the team skates around at the end of warm-up passing pucks to the front of the net to other players or trying to pass pucks through the feet of the skating players to another player on the other side. If he is expecting it or not. I prefer it when he isn't expecting it and a puck lands right on the tape through all the skaters. Final stretch down on the blue line opposite of the players benches.

Always stretch on the blue opposite of the team benches

Last out of the dressing room before the game and last on the ice if I am starting. Will tap the goalie before the start of the game usually right high (glove) right pad, blocker and left pad before nut checking him for a quick laugh. Skate to center for the opening face off tap my left wingers shin pads then my right wings shin pads, tape my stick three times with the tip of the stick on the center dot, turn face my tender and wait for him to nod or take his stance before quickly turn right in a half circle for the face-off. Will usually tap the opposing players skates if I can usually trying to tap left before I try for his right. If I can tap both of them before the puck drops I know I am going to own him in the face-off dot during the night and I will never win the first face-off as I want to progress with a quick skating shift putting pressure on their defenders right off the opening draw as it allows me to quickly see which defend might have a hard time handling our quick pressure and I will attack that defender all night.

Last out of the dressing room and usually one of the first to arrive

End of the first, I will change out my gloves for a new dry set, undress and take a cold shower before redressing again left to right starting with the skates, again last out of the dressing room grabbing both my first period and second period stick giving my first period stick to fan on the way from the dressing room if playing at home or giving it to trainer to hand to a cute girl sitting by the bench if on the road. Start of second period I will not go anywhere near our tender but will repeat the left wing and right wing tap with half spin to the right to start the period. Again trying to tap the other players skates and again purposely losing the draw, unless we start on the power-play.

Dress left to right starting with skate first for warm-up and after every period.

End of the second is the same as the end of the first but switching my second period stick for my third period stick. Only difference is I try to win the opening face-off to start the third as now I want the puck and try to force an early offensive chance regardless of the score.
If I score a goal will not go down to our tender as I don't want to pass the scoring bad luck to him so that he won't get score on and I also must come straight to the bench as I don't want to start the play after scoring as I want a chance to reflect, celebrate and then refocus before heading back onto the ice for my next shift.

Equipment managers is my bf since I change sticks and glove all the time.

End of the game, I will always give my third or over-time stick away to a young boy with father usually around the penalty box area and my two or one remaining stick will be used as practice sticks the next day. They will never be used in a game and will be given away after practice.
I will undress never letting a piece of my equipment touch the floor as it must be hung or placed straight into the bag. Will ride the bike for 30mins to cool down and stretch the muscles, will lift weights for 30mins usually focus on upper body (Back, Chest and arms), Warm shower, dress back in the suit leaving the jacket off thrown over my right should as I leave the rink will stop for the first six fans asking for autographs, won't sign pucks or sticks as it will bring a goal scoring drought. Never sign a front of a jersey as it disrespectful to the team. Like to sign across my number below my name bar be it photograph or jersey and if photo is the front I will sign across my skates/legs.

Just part of being a hockey player, signing autographs for the fans.

End of night routine: Steak and mashed potatoes with garlic and black coffee. Followed by stretch and hot bath or jacuzzi, and will enter the bed still wet as I want the weight of the water to dry and relax my muscles. Also want my room cool around 18 degrees so that the bed is warm but the air is cool. Helps get a deeper sleep. If we have to travel due to playing a double header then I will review game tape and read a book on the plane/bus or train and eat my after game meal of steak, mashed potatoes with garlic and black coffee. I must not fall as sleep or I will cramp when traveling and will bring an uneasiness/bad luck for a few days. When we reach our destination I will complete my end of night routine with stretch and hot bath or jacuzzi to relax the muscles. I also sleep in the bed closest to window if I am sharing with a team mate. No TV or social media until breakfast after the game.

Jacuzzi or hot bath is a must to relax the muscles following the days activities.

So what do you think am I crazy?  And now that you know my rituals will you allow me to continue to tap your skates off the face offs or will you also try to lose the opening draws? Curious what you think?

youloser1337 got a reaction from Gaikoku-hito in Rituals
So far I've had a few pre game rituals that I must do the day before or even on gameday. They help me be in the right mindset for game time. My teammates give me space whenever I'm doing my ritual. They know not to mess with me. When I'm in game time mode, I don't want to be messed with. I've actually had a few different rituals so far. Let me explain a few to everyone.

    Philadelphia Reapers
        Day Before

So I'm kind of cheating here since this is my juniors ritual. I always have an Italian meal the night before. It doesn't matter what I have, as long as it is Italian. This kind of changed when I had back to backs in that I don't have a full meal. I usually do a dessert instead. Socks must be off when I sleep the day before gamedays too.

        Gameday
Gameday is when I really focus. I must listen to my pump up music on Spotify. My teammates actually pulled a prank on me since I was the new guy and switched my pump up music to some Disney music instead. I believe this was the start of my time on the Reapers which actually kept me off the score sheet for a few games. I think they learned really quick not to mess with me again. Sometimes I also listen to a podcast if I feel more relaxed (easier game schedule). Right before the game I must re tape my sticks in a certain way. The color of tape is usually depending on my mood. My favorite ritual is trying to be the last one on the ice after the warmups are over. Sometimes the other team has players that know that and try to stay on the ice as long as possible. I find my ways to be the last one off.

    Mexico City Kings
        Day Before
This is kind of the same as Philly but with one change. That change is to stay off social media all day. This means I don't check anything the day before or even on gameday. Social media isn't really for
me, but when I do check my socials it's after a game on the bus/flight.

        Gameday
To add on the existing rituals from Philly, I also added trying to score on our teams goalie during warmup. If I score then I know I'm gonna find the net later in the game (sometimes worked). Warmup is honestly the only time where I can be happy and Zen at the same time. I also take it very seriously in important matchups.

Those are a few of my rituals. I'm sure everyone has their own. Mine are a little weird and oddly specific. I'm gonna try some new stuff when I get up to the VHL and see what works. By the way, I use the same rituals from Mexico City during this WJC tournament. Lets hope that it works and USA gets the gold. Let me know what some of your rituals are. I'm curious to know what others do.

Review: This looks amazing. I'm assuming the background is the miracle on ice picture? This definitely screams USA which is the point. The faded American flag in the background is a nice touch too. The cutout on the player is very clean too. No need for jersey replacement either which must have been nice. Overall this is very clean and visually pleasing. Excellent work! 10/10

As with anything that America does, please stand for THE National Anthem!

Now that your hearts have been warmed by the sweet melody of freedom look below to see Team USA's Roster Selection

As the S75 Playoffs are nearing the end of its course many are left wondering, "what's next?" Well, there is no need to look any further! As we wrap up the S75 Playoffs the World Junior Championship goes into full-swing! Many in the VHLM are watching and waiting, hoping to have their name called and to be placed on the most elite WJC team there is, Team USA! The list of candidates that @Banackock and I worked through was impressive, and no other team compares to the powerhouse that is Team USA!

Only a few short hours ago @fromtheinside released the roster for Team Cana-duh. Really, it's quite adorable that they or anyone else really thinks they have a chance against the greatest country in the world. While Team Cana-duh apologizes to the puck for hitting it to hard, Team USA is ready to apologize for NOTHING.

While the rest of the WJC General Managers prepare to announce their respective rosters, we all know that everyone only truly cares about the roster for Team USA. You've asked, and now you will receive.

    FORWARD Momentum!
The forwards that we have selected are among the best in the league. These players are active, competative , and proud to be Americans. They will not let anything get in their way of putting up massive points, turning goalies into Swiss cheese, and making those opposing defenders look foolish!

Combined, these players amassed a whopping 267 goals, 377 assists during their S75 games. On top of that they delivered over 1000 hits (1102 to be exact) and even blocked 159 shots. These players are fast moving, goal scoring, body dropping hockey stars.

With that in mind, Team USA is proud to welcome the following players to the S75 WJC Team USA Roster:
Addison McLaren @tcookie Justin Lose @youloser1337 Its Gucci @frescoelmo Red Lite @Tate Vick Fairchild @GreenGato Hex Rose @Hex Universe Carson Walkers @Cwalker John Callahan Jr @Callahan Jakob Sosa @TMGSosa
    Honorable DEFENDERS!
Victory cannot occur if there is not a solid line of defenders. These players sacrifice everything to make sure shots are blocked and players are stopped. We are confident that they will challenge any forward coming into our zone, and keep pressure moving forward.

These four defenders are incredibly impressive. One of them alone blocked more shots than the 9 forwards above combined. Combined, these players earned 56 goals and dished up 144 assists. They made sure to lay out another skater 504 times, and together they blocked 408 shots. With numbers like these any opposing offense will be shaking in their skates.

With that in mind, Team USA is proud to welcome the following players to the S75 WJC Team USA Roster:
Muffbeav @.sniffuM Jolly Greene Giant @DoktorFunk Tee Pee E II @Goliathus Bob Tristan @N0HBDY
    Puck-Stopping GOALIES
The goaltenders selected to play for Team USA are incredible athletes and highly skilled at what they do. For S75 they won 85 games, lost 37, and grabbed 6 shutouts. On top of that, these goalies faced over 3000 shots and barely let in 10% of them. These two clocked a massive 7791 minutes played this season, which amounts to nearly 130 hours of ice time.

Team USA is proud to welcome the following players to the S75 WJC Team USA Roster:
Markus Emerson Jr@Xflexz Thadius Sales @thadthrasher
For those who are preparing to face us on the ice we wish you a speedy recovery.

The United States and the entire World is prepared to join together with one voice as Team USA wins the gold this year...

    You know what they say...
USA Hockey is Do or Die!

youloser1337 reacted to hedgehog337 in This season for Riga (plus shoutouts for our players and prospects)
Some members are writing about their 2020 here, but I won't do that. Mainly because there was nothing out of ordinary things that happened with me last year. Even with C-19 thing. I still have a job, place to live and I had a fun summer. So instead of that I'm just gonna do more boring stuff and type something about Riga Reign's S75 because this was an interesting one. I'll name stuff that I liked in this season and what not really.

    - 29 wins. A pleasant surprise. We didn't have a hell of a roster and most likely we were expected to score less wins. But our players did everything to not make us the pushovers. We managed to perhaps being the most annoying team for most of contenders. Especially to Prague, Davos and Warsaw. And I believe we won Chicago more than once and yet they are three wins away from the finals. Big lmao at STHS.

    - Trade for Calvin Harvey. One of main reasons why we did decently this season was the player who wasn't getting a lot of chances in his previous team, Helsinki Titans. Nobody else wanted him so I managed to get him for a cheap price which was certainly a win for me. I mean, Klamasteris is two seasons younger and I'm also capping at 12 TPE, but Harvey gives us way more chances to get out of the rebuild phase ASAP. And also he had some neat games this season, including a 70 save game in a win against Warsaw. 100% positive moment for our team.

    - Extending Harvey and Rocket. Another positive news came during the playoffs. Calvin Harvey made our life more exciting so I was very interested to keep him in Riga. The same level of excitement came from him in our extension talks and as the result he signed with us for 5 more seasons! Our goaltending is now locked for the long time. As for Rocket, things were more difficult out there. And not because of player himself - we were about to welcome six wingers from minors next season which made things a bit tense for me. However, Cabe McJake decided to switch to a center so it opened a spot for another one and I reached up to Rocket with the extension offer. He was cool with it so here we go, two more seasons of Rocket in Riga! I do plan to make at least one extension later in the offseason by the way.

    - The reborn of forum locker room. I don't know how long this will last, but this season was a total success. We managed to reach 17 pages as of this moment and while this may be far from the best results VHL[M] forum lockers were producing back in the day; I'd say I was pleased with the activity in Riga LR. Big credit goes to @Eynhallow for making this happen.

    - The overall excitement about our future. I had to give back some S76 picks for making this happen, but I'm happy with the result. Nearly everyone is active an earning from 6 to 13 TPE weekly (plus some uncapped opportunities) and even one of rare inactives Hi Hello appeared to be a multi. We are about to have a nice deep roster with three full lines consisting of 320-450 TPE guys even before the season starts. Also, Zetterstrom and Thunder at D with Carter and McBighit coming up later. *Excited hedgehog noises*

    - Not making the playoffs. Literally the only negative from this season. Our playoff appearances record was officially over this season and it's kinda boring to not play in the post season. But hey, sacrifises need to be made for the bright future rather than dragging our contention window with the previous players just to perhaps becoming a mediocrity.

As you can see, despite being a rebuilding team I'm finding this season having way more positives than negatives. Contending season after season is cool obviously, but sometimes I need a change of scenery and prove that I actually can make a nice rebuild as well. Makes my GM job more fun to be honest.

At the end of this article I'd like to say thanks to every single Riga player and prospect for willing to grind for TPE week after week, even in holiday season. I believe we will have a very bright future and longterm contention window and you will be the reason why this is going to be possible! See you in S76/77.

Playoff hockey is a different beast compared to the regular season. Everything gets multiplied by 50 as everyone fights to win the cup. All of the work you've done during the season is tested over a few weeks. For Justin Lose this is a new beast for him in the VHLM. Last season the Reapers failed to make the playoffs and this motivated Justin Lose to work harder to get the chance to dance. This season is a different story. Mexico City Kings have secured the number 1 seed in the playoffs. We caught up to Justin Lose before the madness began to get his initial thoughts.

"It's crazy to think at this point last season I was cleaning out my locker after missing the playoffs and this year we are the 1st seed. My hard work finally paid off and we really worked together as a team and got to this point. I'm going to be pushing myself to the limits to win a cup here as my last hoorah. I think I caught the attention of Riga so I think this will be my last shot at the VHLM. I won't let Mexico City down." - Justin Lose

My only problem is that in the dark mode it is hard to see what the the trades are. I won't take away points for it since it's not really in your control. One thing I think is really neat is the fact you put the TPE amount next to the traded players. Although you don't go into each trade, it basically writes itself why the trade was made. Maybe put a conclusion or an overall review? Otherwise great work!

So, as we all know by now, the trade deadline is now past and we are in the last part of the season before the playoffs. This Season has been an incredibly competitive one which brought us a lot of trades, I would say enough to get lost. Not a big deal since the more I thought about afterwards I was most likely over critical of your season to date anyway since a player in the top 30 of scoring isn't an easy feat in any league so you are more likely an A- in scoring with a C or C- in defense still for an overall grade more of a B or B+

    1. We have the firepower and the depth to pull it off. The fight for first is never easy though.
    2. I think they are both amazing players! They are great in the locker room too which is really nice.
    3. It's a team sport. We all contribute to our success here in Mexico City.
    4. Sometimes the best defense is a good offense (wait...) Kidding. In all seriousness, it's awesome to see our defensemen step up. I feel like they are comfortable to take risks which pays off.
    5. A championship with Mexico City Kings.
    6. Nope and nope. I'm more of a fall / spring guy. I like the cool weather, not the extremes.

    Scoring: C-
Reason: Currently 25th in goals scored (25 goals), 46th overall in Assist (30 assists), 31st overall in points (55pts) and 11.16% shooting percentage with 224 shots. These shot stats are inflated due to playing on a very strong team with the 224 shots indication a lot of chance to score but shows lack of finish with only 11% shooting percentage. Compare this to other players minute on ice as he is playing on the second line means he is collecting at least 17-20mins of ice time per game means he depending on how you rank other players in the league below the top tier scorer in the league.  Top ten players are scoring at a 1.30 - 1.66 points per game pace, while the top 20 are scoring at 1.17 - 1.28  and the top 30 are scoring at 1.09 - 1.03. So if the top 10 at your A to A+ then your top 20 are your B grouping and the top 30 are your C grouping in the way of overall scoring. Since Lose is just outside of the top 30 in scoring depending on if you count tie or not, then he falls into a C - category. Breaking it down further he would be a C+ for scoring, D for assist and a C- for overall points.

    Defense: C+
Reason: 56th overall in Plus/minus(+12), 39th in PIM (52mins) and 29th in hits 108 hits and 42nd overall in shots blocked (22). Defense is one of the harder areas to figure if your player is playing effective defense or not since it really subjective but I will try anyways. 55pts and +12 means the player has been on the ice in 5-5 situation giving up a goal at least 43 times of his team allowed 134 goals. This relates to an 32% of the team goals are scored against this player. while only scoring at 25% of the teams goals as line leading to a negitive puck possession stats; which is also suggested in the amount of hits to penalty ratio since 108 hits and 52PIM is 48% chance of penalty per hit. This is a indicator of the player out of position and is chasing the play more then being defense minded. 22 block shots are a wash since it seem the player is playing in the PK so he is bound to block shots. All stats show that the player is offensive first and defense last in more situation then not. So let try to rate these stats: Again using the same for scoring with plus/minus indication of overall defense (which it isn't) at 56th overall this would be E/D- ranking; On ice for 32% of the teams goals allowed is a hard one to judge since what is determined to be good 0%-10% = A with 10%-20% = B as this doesn't take in consideration time on ice versus goals against. That being said I am going with the 10% = A and etc.... So This would increase to a D+

    Overall: C
Reason: A player that is expected to carry more of the offensive load for his team and is scoring below the standard of the top players in the league on a very good team. This could be an indicator of playing on the second line with players pulling his stats line down but overall when 30 other players are ahead of a player in scoring more is to be expected from the player. As an offensive minded player that thinks offense first it is expected that his overall defensive play isn't the great as it is simple expected to score more then be scored on in most situations but in the case of Lose, his line is currently more likely to be scored on then rather score as they have a -7% goals for versus goals against ratio.

To be fair I will also rank my own player (also partly I am interested to see how we compare):
    Offense:
    Scoring: 32 goals for 7th overall = A-
    Assist: 46 assist for 8th overall = A-
    Points: 78 pts for 3rd overall= A+
    Overall: A-

    Defense:
    Plus/Minus: +36 for 1st overall
    PIM: 10mins for 100+ overall
Hits: 23 hits for 100+ overall
Shots Blocked: 3 for 100+ overall
    Team Goals against: 141
    Goals against Ratio: 29.7% = C-
    Goals for Ratio: 34.2%
Goals for versus Goal Against ratio: +4.5%
    Overall: C-

    Overall:   B-

    1. The league is getting better. Obviously we are only going to have tougher battles from here, but I think we can bounce back and dominate the league again.
    2. Definitely. Philly is a strong team and so are we. It's the battle of goliaths and I think we have a chance to come out on top.
    3. I've heard that Las Vegas Aces are our biggest rivals, so a matchup against them would be a great series.
    4. Chicken parm. Easy.
    5. I hope the nice list
    6. Spending time with family and giving gifts. I enjoy giving more than receiving.
