youloser1337 got a reaction from Dom in Midpoint Grading - Justin Lose
Today we are going to be grading Justin Lose's performance in the half way mark for Season 75 in the VHLM. Alongside the Justin Lose evaluation, we are also going to be taking a look at his line and how the team is doing. Let's get started on where the Mexico City Kings are in the standings.

Mexico City Kings are currently in first place in the Western Conference and in the league with 74 points in 45 games played. In the west the closest team is the Saskatoon Wild with 62 points in 44 games played. In the league the closest team is the Philadelphia Reapers with 68 points in 43 games played. The league this season has been very close. Wins are very valuable to get that advantage going into playoffs later this season. Next lets get to the 2nd line stats (excluding Justin Lose).

John Callahan Jr and Chris Foley are the two line mates for Justin Lose. They are offensive powerhouses in their own unique ways. John Callahan Jr, which we've stated multiple times that he was teammates in Philadelphia with Lose, is having a career season. Putting up outstanding stats with 17 goals and 21 assists for 38 points and a +14 +/- rating! He seems to be on pace to out grow the VHLM by the end of the season and  possibly have a chance to crack the Toronto Legion lineup in the VHL. Chris Foley is the center for Lose and Callahan Jr and is having a great season as well. He has 8 goals and 34 points for 42 points and a +20 +/- rating. Although he is doing well in point production we estimate that he could possibly not hit his career high 85 points from last season. Of course we could be wrong and Foley could explode in points in the final stretch towards playoffs. As previously stated the self proclaimed best second line in the league is still scoring and staying hot! Finally we come to the part Lose has been dreading, his evaluation!

When Justin Lose started as a waiver pickup last season with the Reapers, he never thought he would be in this position today which is being first in the league with the Mexico City Kings. Scoring just 19 points in 34 games last season was a big accomplishment for Lose. Now he is an offensive threat to all the VHLM teams.

First up on the evaluation is the scoring category. Currently Justin Lose is on the second line of the Mexico City Kings with John Callahan Jr and Chris Foley. Lose found his production when he was demoted to the second line earlier in the season. Now he has 22 goals and 27 assists for 49 points in 45 games. Those stats alone are impressive, but he also has 6 game winning goals, 6 powerplay goals and 1 shorthanded goal. On top of that he has 196 shots! We can't think of a better grade than A+ for Lose in the Scoring category.

Next up is the defensive category. When scouts were meeting with Justin Lose for the draft, he kept telling them that he was a two way forward. Did he keep his promise? This is debatable. Currently he is a +13 +/- rating which is good but not great. Compared to his line mates, he is the lowest +/- rating. Another category that isn't great is the PIM total which is 46 penalty minutes. The two good stats to help his defensive rating is his hits and shot block totals. Currently Lose has 96 hits and 17 shot blocks. This shows that he isn't afraid to throw his body or put himself in danger to help the team. Defense is a tough category to grade and I can't be too positive about Lose's performance so far. I would put Lose at a B- in the Defense category.

Lastly is the most difficult grading topic, Player Growth. Justin Lose is currently ready for the VHL, make no mistake about that. He did want to stay with the Mexico City Kings for the full season though before the season began. Lose has shown that he is ready for the next step and has almost outgrown the VHLM. I want to go over Lose's prospect report that was done last season with his strengths and weaknesses. His strengths were scoring, passing and defense. Scoring and passing are both easy to credit and move on from. The question rises about his defense though. As stated previously he self proclaimed being a two way forward. Does he fit in that role? I think we can rebrand him from a two way forward to being either a sniper or playmaker, two roles that better fit him. Bottom line, defense being a strength? Maybe. Weaknesses, this is a tough one, but I think Lose has shown improvement. His three weaknesses were fighting, checking and strength. Lose is not a fighter so I think we can write that one off. Checking has improved by a lot. 96 hits in 45 games is a great number. Of course it isn't outstanding compared to other teammates, but it is not a weakness for Lose now. We can confidently say checking is no longer a weakness. The next weakness was strength. This is a tough one to talk about since there's no real stat to go along with it. For that reason I can't grade him on strength. As a teammate and in the locker room I would say Lose is an A+, Strengths I would put him at an A- and finally Weaknesses at a B+. This leads Lose to an A- in Player Growth.

In conclusion, Justin Lose is a great player for the Mexico City Kings. Some have called him the steal of the VHLM draft after being picked in the second round! Combining all of the grades from this evaluation, we can safely say that his grade is around a B+. While his offensive is outstanding, he needs to be better defensively which really hurt him in this evaluation. If he wants to be called a two way forward, he has to put up better defense numbers. I think that Justin Lose is doing a fantastic job and is going to have a great career in the VHL if he continues down this path. This has been a long one, I hope that this was an in-depth read for everyone and a fair assessment on Justin Lose at the halfway point of the VHLM season.

After the release of Justin Lose's rating, we wanted to get a word in from the man himself before his games and how that is going to impact his game. Luckily he was more than happy to comment on his rating.

"First off I want to commend the fellow who went through all of that work to grade me and my team and teammates so far. That must have been a lot of work and they need credit. Now to get to the serious part that I'm sure everyone is expecting. I'm okay with the rating. They have graded me fairly and I will use this as a stepping stone to stay motivated for the push for the playoffs. I'm glad they think my scoring is great by the way. I've been working hard with the training staff and building chemistry with my teammates. It is kind of sad to see that they think I'm not a two way forward since my defensive stats haven't been up to their standards. I want to be a reliable forward that can be great on both ends of the ice. If everyone thinks I'm not good on my own end, I will work on that. I'm always open for constructed criticism and I can't argue what they graded me on. Finally I feel a bit hurt that my growth wasn't that high. I feel that I've improved in all of the areas that I needed to be improved on. You can't please everyone, but that is okay. I'm going to use all of this as motivation in my upcoming games. Look for me on the scoresheet! Thank you for your time." - Justin Lose on his mid season grading

Another week and another grand performance for Justin Lose on the second line. Lose even got a weekly award from @thadthrasher in the Week 2 Player Highlights for VHLM! He got the Snow Plow Award with a team leading 42 hits.

Week 2 had 6 more games than last week. Justin Lose continues to tear the league up on the second line with an astounding 19 points with a +2 rating. He had 10 goals and 9 assists. The only player that produced more than Lose was RJ Thatcher, who is on the first line, with 12 goals and 9 assists for 21 points. Compared to week 1, Lose played 6 more games and scored 5 more goals and 2 more assists. We reached out to Lose for a quick statement on his increase in production.

"Right now I got the hot stick. I can't put all of the glory on myself. Obviously I have more assists and that is all possible with the amazing linemates I have. John Callahan Jr and Chris Foley have been an absolute dream to work with this season. I can't wait to get back on the ice!" - Justin Lose

    1. Hell yeah! We have shown the league that we can win with our 13 win streak and top teams as well.
    2. Honestly I would say my passing isn't that great. It's weird to say that with 16 assists so far.
    3. No way. That is a great name and rolls off the tongue.
    4. It's Mexico City. We are always streaking. On a serious note, I believe we can get back in the win column and get a good streak going.

youloser1337 got a reaction from DMaximus in Best Second Line in the League
Mexico City Kings want perfection when it comes to their first line. When Justin Lose failed to deliver on the first line, the decision was made to demote him to the second line. In a way this isn't a bad thing though. Rory, the assistant general manager for the Kings said in the locker room after demoting Lose to the second line, "Yeah (I) think we're gonna have to do the Draisaitl/Mcdavid strategy and separate you and RJ."  This was addressed by Lose in a statement here: [LINK]. The pressure of the first line finally got through to him. A few days after that statement went out Lose approached us again and gave us a follow-up.

"Mentally it's taxing to be told you aren't meeting expectations. It was a rough couple of days when I was first told. I couldn't shake it. Luckily I calmed down and realized this is a blessing in disguise. I think currently I am doing better mentally and I'm finally scoring too!" - Justin Lose

What happened after being demoted shocked management and Lose himself, he was finally producing. Being reunited with John Callahan Jr and having Chris Foley be their center in what they say is the best 2nd line in the league. Lose has finally found the chemistry that the Mexico City Kings were looking for when they drafted him.

Let's analyze the 3 that make-up the self-proclaimed best 2nd line in the league. The line consists of Chris Foley on Center, Justin Lose on Right wing and finally John Callahan Jr on Left Wing.
Chris Foley is in his 3rd year with Mexico City and has 4 goals and 9 assists for 13 points so far this season in 14 games played. Last season was his best season in production with 28 goals and 57! assists for 85 points in 72 games. He also contributed 4 assists in 5 games in the playoffs last season.
John Callahan Jr is only in his second season in the VHLM after being a waiver last season. He was drafted 29th in the VHLM draft and is having a career season already with 6 goals and 7 assists for 13 points in 14 games played. Last season he only played in 28 games and only had 3 points (2 goals / 1 assist).
Justin Lose is also in his 2nd season after being drafted 18th overall in the VHLM draft. Currently he has 5 goals and 9 assists for 14 points in 14 games played. In his waiver year he had a respectable 8 goals and 11 assists for 19 points in 34 games played. This trio is boosting each other up to almost point a game pace for each player!

The season is still young, but with Mexico City (at the time of this recording) being tied in first with Philadelphia anything is possible. This just goes to show that a slow start doesn't mean the end of your season and a demotion isn't always a 'demotion'. For Justin Lose it was a reunion and redemption for failing to please the Mexico City management.

Last season was his best season in production with 28 goals and 57! assists for 85 points in 72 games. He also contributed 4 assists in 5 games in the playoffs last season.

    4. Heck yeah! Let's keep the ball rolling!
    5. As a former player for the Reapers, I will say they have a great team over there. I think we have the edge though.

It took me a few hours, but I enjoyed it! I'm full-time in earning my Master's degree, and this week we have off, so I had a bit of extra time. But, now that I have the format worked out it should make for a quicker process. The hard part next week, if I'm able to do it again, will be figuring out the single-week stats since I don't believe there is anywhere that tracks that sort of thing ( @Ricer13 do you know about this)? I'll have to subtracts last week's stats from this coming week's totals to figure out what each player did in one week. I made an excel file so that should help.

Review: This is a great write-up. I can't even imagine the amount of work that you did just to set this all up. I think this is a fun thing to look forward to during the season. I don't know how much work this would cause, but maybe like a runner-up for the awards just to showcase more talent? Maybe even showing what VHL team they were drafted to? Other than that I see no problems with this write-up. Amazing work! 10/10.

youloser1337 reacted to Callahan in Who Really Is John Callahan Jr?? (An Introduction)
For all of you who don't know who John Callahan Jr is, he is currently a player for the Mexico City Kings and a prospect for the Toronto Legion, he was formally part of the Philadelphia Reapers. Some call him an international journeyman, some call him a man of mystery, and some call him...Jack Eichel. Yes, that Jack Eichel. The captain of the Buffalo Sabres and one of the best players in the NHL today.

Before we dive into all of that I wanted to do a quick little background on the player John Callahan Jr. Callahan Jr grew up about 40 miles outside of Boston, MA in a town called Nashua. NH. His local hockey rink was Skate 3 in Tyngsboro, MA where he began playing in-house mites at 3 years old. Coaches quickly realized John was one of the better players on the ice and quickly talked to his parents about playing select hockey. His first select team he played for was the Dual State Huskies. He played for the Huskies until he made the switch to the Boston Jr. Bruins and played there for the remainder of his amateur hockey career.

He wasn't sure that he was ready for the big leagues yet, so he did one season at Boston University. After having a successful season at Boston University, he knew he was ready for the VHL/VHLM. Since the VHL/VHLM already started season 74 he knew he would have to be a waiver pick up and be drafted in S75. In S74 he was recruited and picked up by the Philadelphia Reapers where he stayed for the rest of S74. Callahan Jr gained a lot of knowledge under Philly's GM Dmaximus and grew fond of their GM with his time there. Callahan Jr credits his love for the VHL/VHLM is because of Dmax. Sadly, all good things have to come to an end knowing he might not go back to Philadelphia made Callahan Jr a little uneasy but he knew wherever he went he could hit it off with the locker room and he got lucky when he got drafted to Mexico City. Another waiver pick up from Philly also went to Mexico City (Justin Lose) and those two hit it off in Philly making the transition that much easier. Season 75 is set to start off tomorrow and next week we will pick back up on how Callahan Jr is doing in Mexico City...

Now there has been some discussion about John Callahan Jr actually being Jack Eichel. I mean right off the bat both of their league photo's look exactly the same. It's almost hard to distinguish the two... the first picture is of John Callahan Jr when he was first picked up on waivers by the Philadelphia Reapers and the second picture is last year's picture of Jack Eichel of the Buffalo Sabres.

    .

I mean they look EXACTLY alike. Could Jack be sick of playing for the Buffalo Sabres and is secretly using an alias to play in another league where he actually might win a championship? Has Callahan Jr been a disguise all along for Eichel? There are so many questions left unanswered and, in these articles, we will finally be able to track down WHO John Callahan Jr actually is. I am doing as much research as I can to possibly track down who this man of mystery really is and get to the bottom of this mystery. Until next week...
