  1. Review: For a first time graphic, you did a great job here! I really like the watercolor filter effect you used on your graphic, it works pretty well. I think the jersey looks great and I love that you put the VHL logo in there, that's a great added touch and those are the kind of details people love to see in the community when you make graphics for sure. I guess the only thing I didn't love is the font for your name. Just a personal preference I guess but just didn't like the calligraphy, to me it was kinda hard to read. I did like the green with black outline though, it stood out enough, just the font choice itself was not great for me. Besides that though, I think this is a really nice job for your first time. Good work! 7.5/10
  2. Hello fellow VHL members! The other day I was brainstorming and just generally trying to come up with ideas/solutions to the constant and ongoing issue with balancing leagues and rosters across all three leagues in the VHL family. Things are always in a constant state of flux and it's extremely hard to come up with a "perfect solution" to perfectly balance everything. Currently the VHLM is bottlenecked full of players. This comes of the heels of us sending two VHLM teams to the VHL E to expand that league instead. While it seemed necessary to expand the E, thanks to a very successful recruitment drive and YouTube ad recently, we find ourselves (thankfully) with a ton of new blood in the league again. The thing is though, there won't consistently be such a high userbase of players in the M year in and year out, so expansion isn't necessarily the solution. An option that's been discussed is using the Juniors as a fallback system if necessary to deal with overflow in the M. Many newer users won't even know what the Juniors system is since we've never used it since the idea was implemented about four or five seasons ago. Essentially each VHLM team has a "junior team:, essentially a farm team. Excess players would play on those teams until spots open up on the VHLM rosters. This only would happen if we hit a threshold of 75% of VHLM teams being a full roster size. It's never happened up til now, but if I'm being honest I am not a huge fan of the system. There would be an extremely limited number of players who would be in Juniors and I feel the experience for these people would be pretty alienating. You would be on a separate roster from everyone else on your M team, and you would be mostly playing with bots. It just doesn't seem ideal. I thought, what about a relegation/promotion system. I'm not really sure on the details, but at its core it would just serve as a tool to move teams where needed on a per season basis. If there's a large recruitment drive on the horizon and we know the M might get an influx of new players, the league could announce that two teams from the E are going to be relegated to the M. And then when things balance back out down the road, you could say okay "X amount of teams will be promoted to the E". Basically use it to help make room for wherever the bottleneck of players is, whether that be the M, the E or the VHL. I'd also be interested to hear what people think of relegation/promotion even as a standalone idea. The idea of having something on the line, in my opinion, adds a lot more intrigue to the league which is great. Anyways it was literally just a random thought I had the other day, I would just be interested in what people think, even if you think it's a bad idea I'd like the feedback. I needed some extra TPE so I figured I would throw this out here and see what people's thoughts were at least. Cheers.
  3. does he know Trent Crimm? You guys do great work over there btw.
  4. The Effects of Father Time Starting to Impact Kaberle Malmo, SWE- Associated Press We are almost halfway through another season on VHL hockey, and although some things have changed amidst the standings throughout the VHL, a lot of things are similar also. In the European Conference, Moscow and Malmo are once again the teams to beat as both clubs seem destined to faceoff in a playoff rematch at some point down the road later this year. Both teams offense's have been absolutely shredding the league. Going into the start of the season, it seemed the dynamic duo of Kristof Welch and Scotty Kaberle would be the undisputed top defensive pairing in the league, but if you look at the stats, a new duo has taken the throne. While Kaberle and Welch have had strong seasons thus far (ranked 10th and 6th respectively in defensemen scoring), Moscow's pairing of Aurelien Moreau and Hard Markinson have been nothing short of dominant, as they sit 1-2 in league scoring for defensemen. Both of Moscow's spectacular blueliners are right in the prime of their careers right now and it really shows. The two have found something special while playing in the Motherland. Should the teams end up in a playoff rematch of last year's conference finals, it will surely be intriguing to watch each team's top pairs square off against one another. Of the four defensemen, Scotty Kaberle is the elder statesman of the group. He is in his seventh season as a pro and while he's having another productful season for the Nighthawks, sometimes you can see the wear and tear of professional hockey starting to take a toll on the Canadian. Kaberle has played a ton of hockey of the past handful of seasons including a championship run in the Season 79 playoffs as well as a gold medal run with Canada in the World Cup this past offseason. Kaberle takes none of it for granted though, as he knows it is a privilege to play in such high stakes moments. The blueliners career has seen its fair share of ups and downs, but it seems like Kaberle could be opting towards an early retirement, perhaps as early as at the end of this current season. There's been several reports that Kaberle has been playing with some nagging injuries over the past season or two, and although you wouldn't know it from looking at the scoresheet, if you watch him play you can see he has lost just a touch of his peak performance we are used to seeing. He has one more year left in his contract, and who know's what the future holds for Malmo after this season. It certainly has a feel of do or die this year for the Nighthawks. They have been a powerhouse for many seasons now, but this is definitely their window to capture another championship. With Kaberle and a couple others not getting any younger, it's important for Malmo to seize this opportunity while they can. Worry not though Nighthawks fans, the team is still in good hands with the likes of Taylor Mourning and Nathaniel Minion ushering in the next generation of fresh young talent for the team. With the next generation already stepping up this season and showing serious capability, along with the new GM Dominic Gobeil taking the reigns, Malmo will undoubtedly stay relevant for many seasons to come.
  5. Nice backstory RIP your dad
  6. NEW YORK AMERICANS PRESS CONFERENCE For Week-Ending of Dec 12th 1) We are just over a third of the way through the regular season. Are you happy with how your player has performed this season? Why or why not? 2) If or when you recreate your next player in VHL, do you know what position you want to be and do you have any ideas for your next player's name? 3) Describe your favourite and least favourite things about your time so far in the VHL as a whole. 4) What video game are you currently playing the most these days? If you aren't playing anything currently, name me some of your all time favourites from the past. 5) For the degenerates who said they like pineapple on their pizza last week, why do you think fruit belongs on pizza ? For people of taste, what is your goto pizza (toppings)? 6) What is your favourite breakfast cereal? If you aren't big on cereal what do you eat instead?
  7. Great job on the Power Rankings my man.... glad to see the legacy lives on!
  8. finally a man of taste around here.
  9. Im not sure what commands are like on mac, but in windows zoom in is ctrl/+ and zoom out is ctrl/- and to go back to default is ctrl/0 my guess is while you were copying and pasting things you accidently input a command to zoom out by mistake, we've all done it before! oh or alternatively if you hold ctrl and use your scroll wheel on your mouse that will also mess with zooming.
  10. NEW YORK AMERICANS PRESS CONFERENCE For Week-Ending of Dec 5th 1) Our team is quite clearly in a rebuild. That became abundantly more clear this week when we traded away Phoenix Dawson to the Seattle Bears. What was your reaction to this trade and do you think there will be more moves leading up to the trade deadline? 2) Right now Calgary and Moscow sit atop their respective conferences after red hot starts to each of their seasons. Do you think these clubs go on to meet each other in the finals or do you think some other teams could make a run instead? 3) Cow and I used to be GM and AGM together back in Yukon in the M. During this time we had a major debate amongst our team about pineapple on pizza. So the million dollar question is... do you like pineapple on your pizza? 4) I got an email from Spotify this week telling me that my Holiday Wrap would be incoming shortly. For those of you who don't know, they basically take all your listening data and show you what you listened to the most over the past year and they make cool playlists for you and stuff, its pretty cool. If you had to take a guess at what would be your most played in 2021, name me a few songs that would be there. 5) Christmas is quickly approaching us. Do you celebrate the holiday? If so do you enjoy the holidays and what are some Christmas traditions you do every year? 6) Who is your favorite hockey player in the NHL currently? If you aren't an NHL fan, who is your favourite current athlete in any sport?

  23. YUKON RUSH -S31-S80- Gone but not forgotten. Thank you for coming to the memorial to celebrate the life and times of the Yukon Rush, one of the most historically-rich franchises in all of the VHLM up until its recent execution last week. Yukon made its debut into the VHLM way back in Season 31 when former user Streetlight was named the club's first ever general manger. Yukon's inaugural season was a huge success as they went on to capture the Founder's Cup in their very first season, a very rare feat for a team in any sport. The franchise would go on to capture three more titles before Season 40, quickly establishing Yukon as a powerhouse in the VHLM. Eventually, Yukon hit a dry spell where they would go 21 seasons without a Founder's Cup. These were trying years for Yukon, but the Rush faithful never stopped supporting its team. Finally, after years of tough losses and heartbreak, the club had a breakthrough. Longtime user @Smarch was handed the reins and eventually led the club back to greatness. Smarch would lead the Rush to their fifth franchise Founder's Cup, defeating the Saskatoon Wild in the finals. He would come close again in Season 61 but fell just short in the playoffs. After Smarch moved on, the Rush saw a number of different people come in and try to guide the team to success. Both @Josh and @MexicanCow123 served long stints as general manager for Yukon, but neither of them were able to capture a title, but great memories were made nonetheless. Towards the end of Cow's tenure is when I personally joined the franchise as the assistant general manager. Cow taught me all the tricks of the trade and together we established a plan. While Cow eventually stepped down, I stayed on as we brought in @Juice to take over as GM. Juice was truly the perfect person to take over Yukon. Not only is he FROM Yukon, we also signed his first player Kristoff Welch off waivers and helped him get his VHL career started. There was no better person to bring in to help guide the Rush. He was young, hungry and wanted to excel. And excel he did. Juice came in during Season 77 and we continued to rebuild with our plan being to compete for a title in Season 78. And we did just that. Season 78 will always be my personal favourite experience in any of the three leagues. We collected a ton of draft capital and assembled an all-star cast that included all-star goaltender @Beketov Papa Emeritus, as well as the Reinhart brothers Jerome (Cow) and Tyler @Zetterberg. They joined a young core of first gens @JB123 Nathan Power and @hockeyis66 Jaromir Lemeiux, as well as the Finnish trio of @jRuutu Erlantz Jokinen, @Big Bob Bob Beach and @Otto Numminen. We even were able to bring in ex-GM @BarzalGoat Sven Eightnine at the trade deadline. The Season 78 Rush dominated and indeed went on to capture another Founder's Cup. Aside from the hunt for the Cup that season, we were also entrenched in a fierce rivalry with the San Diego Marlins. Juice had a bet with rival GM Thadrasher on which team would do better that season. Officially it ended in a draw, and the two sang an absolutely terrible rendition of My Heart Will Go On, but the Rush eliminated the Marlins in the playoffs, so we all know who came out ahead on that one Juice and I opted to step down following the championship season, and @Domg5 would serve as the teams final general manager. He had built a great foundation but alas it was all for nothing in the long run. Dom was promoted to the VHL as new GM for the Malmo Nighthawks, and the VHLE murdered the Yukon Rush and its 50 seasons of history and tradition. It's been a hell of a ride Yukon. You will be missed.
