First week report for VHL Season 81

Season 81 of the VHL has begun, and the first week of games had just finished. We found Rhynex Entertainment @Rhynex Entertainmentt, newly appointed Captain of the VHL New York Americans, whom is off to a fantastic start to his final season in the VHL.

Reporter: Hello Rhynex! Good to see you! First of all congrats on your successful first week of Season 81! You are having a fantastic start to the season, any comments to your fast start?

RE: Hello. Thank you! Yes! I'm having an unbelievable start to the season! Phoenix (Dawson) @Toastt and Jon (Webber) @Webberj have both been unbelievable! We've built instant chemistry! They're both very smart and skilled players, very good skaters and scorers. It's good to be able to put up those points against some really good teams.

Reporter: You are currently leading all players this season with 11 goals, 14 assists for 25 points in 11 games. You haven't had such an incredible showing since your rookie and sophomore seasons. What have been the changes? How are you producing so effectively?

RE: Well, like I said previously, Phoenix and Jon have been amazing. We're all in the top ten in points right now, which is incredible! I would say the biggest changes would be the decrease in my role. I only need to focus in scoring now that I've been moved to the wing for the first time in my career. Phoenix is a fantastic passer. Makes my life a lot easier, just got to tap the puck in sometimes. I also don't have to worry about winning the face-offs, takes a lot of the workload.

Reporter: Congratulations on being appointed Captain of the New York Americans for Season 81! We're heard a lot of rumours of potential trades involving yourself. Any comments?

RE: Thank you! It's an honour to captain the Americans in my last season. I've played my entire career here in New York. It's been a fantastic place to play! I'll let GM @MexicanCow123 decide what he believes to be best of the team. But we're off to a good start, don't count us out just yet!

Reporter: Thank you for your time! Good luck for the rest of the season!

With New York going into a rebuild we've got some new captains who are much deserving of these roles. These three players have been amazing in the locker room and will bring a lot of positivity as we re-build. They may be old but they are going to bring a ton of wisdom to a non existent New York Team. Lets get this re-build started New York!

New York Americans Offseason Prep to Season 80

Big week for the New York Americans. Not only do the New York Americans have a new bench boss and General Manager in @MexicanCow123, as big tenure boss and New York legend @Esso2264 steps down after a big dozen seasons as General Manager of the New York Americans, the Americans also made a few big changes to the roster heading in to the 80th season of the VHL.

To begin, the New York Americans trimmed their roster down to a line up of 5 forwards, 3 defense, and one goaltender, and then they traded away their Season 80 first round, 3rd overall pick (which turns up becoming Saku Kotkakoivu @DollarAndADream ), and a conditional Season 81 first round pick to the Calgary Wranglers, for two Season 80 third round picks (Calgary's and their very own New York's 3rd round picks; which were used to draft Left Winger Ernie King Jr @Greg Ernest 40th overall and Defenseman NineIQPro @NineIQ v2 37th overall respectively), Superstar Forward Left Winger Luke Thornton @Jtv1233 and also the return of former New York American and fan favourite Star Defenseman Cowboy Prout @Prout. Making their roster heading into Season 80 with a standard 6 forwards, 4 defense and one goaltender.

Returning forwards include Center Phoenix Dawson @Toast and Right Winger Jon Webber @Webberj, both returning for their second season with the Americans. Center Calvin Hobbes @2hawk will return for his third season, their Captain and superstar Right Winger Red Lite @Tate will return for his 5th season, and finally after signing a lifer and retirement package contract, aging star Center Rhynex Entertainment @Rhynex Entertainment will return for his 6th season.

In defense, it was interesting to see the New York Americans let go of star Defenseman Chicken Wing @chikn. They will bring back The Loch Ness Monster @LuluSalesAway for his second sophomore season, Kosmo Kramerev @Mongoose87 for his 3rd season with the Americans, and star defenseman Zeedayno Chara @Jubis for this 4th season as a New York American.

Finally, the New York Americans bring back their superstar in the making goaltender Thadius Sales @thadthrasher, who has a lot to prove as he tries to make it into the playoffs for the second time in his 5th season in the VHL.

With the roster near completion, there will be a lot of noise coming in the big apple as the New York Americans have high expectations in making the playoffs again, after missing out again in season 79 of the VHL. There will also be little excuses for their veteran Center Rhynex Entertainment to not return to form, with his rapid decline in play over the past seasons, especially with the addition of Luke Thornton making it two superstar wingers for the former Vladimir Boomchenko Trophy winner to pass to. However, one might say Center Phoenix Dawson might be taking the reigns as the team's top center, so we may see an even bigger decline in production to the Entertainer, who has been a consistent 30+ goal scorer and point per game producer. All in all, we know this will be a very interesting and possibly the most entertaining season coming up for the New York Americans. In hopes for a very long season in New York. Go NYA Go!

Webberj reacted to Peace in Toronto recovering after trade deadline.
TORONTO, ONTARIO -- The Toronto Legion have once again firmly stated they're indeed a team from Toronto, Canada. We covered in the past that the Legions' fortunes seem to be linked to their NHL siblings (Toronto Maple Leafs) and their series of a series of unfortunate events; an atrocious 1-16-0 free fall was finally ended by a three game win streak, only to follow up that three game reprieve with a 2-8-0 record in their next ten. The trade deadline rapidly approached and the club decided to make moves that both strengthened their position in the upcoming and following VHL Entry Drafts, while also finally setting some of the roles for players on the Legions' roster that had been waiting seasons for their opportunities.

The trade deadline saw Gunnar Odinsson, Erik Killinger and Nicholas Sunderbruch leave the Legion in exchange for a fleet of second round draft picks and forward Guy Lambert. The shakeup appears to have kickstarted a typical Toronto comeback, and we can effortlessly compare the resurgence to literally any Toronto-Montreal game that went to overtime. Down 3-0? 3-3! Down 2-0? 2-2! Toronto is just six points out of a playoff spot with six games left in the regular season, and one of the teams they're chasing [DC Dragons] will face Toronto on home ice in a game that could be pivotal to either teams playoff hopes.

The Legions' last fifteen games have been amazing, I'd personally say the team has recovered in a miracle-like fashion after the trade deadline, and have somehow returned to the roots they started the season off on. Toronto had a 10-3-0 record to start their first thirteen games, and in Toronto's latest fifteen game stretch they've improved to a warm and desperately needed 12-3-0 record; let's not spread false hopes though, the Legion have a lot of work ahead of them if they want to reach the playoffs.

Of the six games that remain Toronto will face London twice, DC once, New York once, Vancouver once, and Prague once. There are a possible twelve points on the table, and a potentially must-win game against DC depending on the standings.

So how have the Legion fared on their resurgence?

SS Hornet ( @McWolf ) has exploded offensively! He's got 13 goals, 8 assists and 21 points in the Legions' last fifteen.

Addison McLaren ( @tcookie ) has been solid for the Legion since arriving in Toronto. He's got 6 goals, 9 assists and 15 points in the Legions' last fifteen games.

Lester Green ( @Smarch ) has been great for the Legion! He's got 8 goals, 9 assists and 17 points in the Legions' last fifteen games.

Asher Reinhart ( @rjfryman ) has been reliable for Toronto in his last fifteen games; he's recorded 3 goals, 7 assists and 10 points during that span.

Phoenix Dawson ( @Toast ) has been consistent in his last fifteen games; he's earned himself 4 goals, 13 assists for an impressive 17 points.

Jon Webber ( @Webberj ) has been enjoying his newfound ice time; he's acquired 5 goals, 7 assists and 12 points in Toronto's last fifteen games.

Guy Lambert ( @Spartakiller2 ) has been played a depth role with Toronto, and despite limited ice time, he has contributed with Toronto; he has scored 2 goals and earned 3 assists for 5 points in his last fifteen with the Legion.

Scotty Kaberle  ( @fromtheinside ) has been a staple on the blueline; he has recorded 5 goals, 10 assists for 15 points in his last fifteen games.

Kristof Welch ( @Juice ) has reliably stepped into his role as one of Toronto's top defenders; Welch has earned himself 3 goals, 11 assists for 14 points in his last fifteen.

Han Jae Kuk ( @Dtayl ) has been a surprising addition to the Legions' blue line after being acquired at the trade deadline; he's got 17 points, 2 goals and 15 assists.

[Oscar is inactive so I didn't crunch his numbers.]

And obviously Sirkants Klamasteris ( @hedgehog337 ) has earned himself some wins! 'Klams' 11-2-0 record is largely responsible for Toronto being within six points of a wildcard position.

    Will they make it?

    I hope so.

Webberj reacted to NickSunderbruch in Toronto Legion Cup Or Bust #WinForRookie
Toronto has had some ups an downs the last two seasons, not making the playoffs in either season 75 or 76. However things have changed in a fairly short amount of time. Not only has Toronto made the playoffs, but they finished 2nd in the North American conference, and 5th overall in the league. A feat that last year would have taken a miracle. Lets take a look at this impressive season from the Social Club in Toronto, and explain why this teams mentality is either cup, or bust.

Early on this season Toronto was expected to try for contention after a two season rebuild phase, and that expectation seems to have made reality. Before the season had even officially started chants in the locker room of "WIN FOR ROOKIE" could be heard all the way across the league, from Toronto to Seattle, from Moscow to London, and from New York to Prague. Toronto's legendary goal keeper Jaxx Hextall @ROOKIE745 is set to retire after the end of this season. No one wanted this legends career to end with only two times making the playoffs, so @Peacetook it upon himself to make it a 3rd appearance for Hextall.

In past playoff appearances Hextall played a total of 19 games, with a record of 10-8-1, and a SV% of 0.916, and a GAA of 2.85. Pretty impressive numbers in my own humble opinion. I can see Hextall playing just as well if not better this postseason and expect his stats to go up, possibly with some hardware to go with it. Many players are making their postseason debut with the Legion, including the following; Asher Reinhart @rjfryman, Gunnar Odinsson @BOOM, Jon Webber @Webberj, Lester Green @Smarch, Phoenix Dawson @Toast, Scotty Kaberle @fromtheinside, Kristof Welch @Juice, Jolly Greene Giant @DoktorFunk, Sirkants Klamasteris @hedgehog337, and Nicholas Sunderbruch @me. That's 10 out of 14 players on the roster making their first ever appearance in the playoffs. And that's incredible to see this team make it this far with an inexperienced core.

Players who HAVE seen the playoffs besides Hextall include, SS Hornet @McWolf Oh Sens @osens and Micah Adrienne @Poptart.
Can these four players prepare the newcomers for their first playoff berth? We'll have to find out as the playoffs go on, and I think that Toronto has a lot to prove this season. The things Toronto is looking to prove is as follows:
    1. They belong with the big dogs
    2. They can win in the face of adversity and not just be streaky.
    3. That this team will be here even after Hextall is gone.

I feel as though we'll see a potential Championship in the city of Toronto, hopefully we'll see some amazing hockey. Only time will tell, and this team has plenty of it. My prediction is that Toronto will earn what's rightfully theirs, the Cup. And as this team continues to impress the hockey world, they'll prove that they belong at the top of the hockey kingdom. This team is likely to move through their conference fairly easily and make it to the finals, where they'll be tested by a very strong European conference.
