I understand the situation now. I am sorry for "calling you out" @samx   I was told just now by a good friend that doing a forum is calling someone out. That wasn't my intention. I just wanted information. Next time I will just send a direct message. Sorry everyone, I just wanted to understand the situation completely. I agree with this decision, again, a 3rd time.

That being said I fully support the punishment. Bedirhan made comments that were not only harassing in nature of the LGBTQ community, but also showed no remorse and doubled down on what he said. Free speech is alright on the site, but when he makes an article out of nowhere that nobody asked him to write, makes hurtful comments towards a specific group of people, and then claims that article for TPE, thats not longer free speech

I was born in Ottawa Ontario in Canada. I am not sure how my parents met, I never asked them, but they met and had me and my older sister. My father and I would stay up late, he would let me, to watch Toronto Legion games. of course my mother would always protest this because I would have school in the morning. This is how my dad and I bonded.

We lived in a nice middle class house. I would go to school and then work part time after school helping the hockey arena set up for their games. I played hockey since I Was 6, but nothing really competitive. It was just something for me to do on the weekends. My father bought us season tickets to Toronto Legion games and we would drive 5 hours there. watch a game. stay at a motel. and drive back the next day. It's safe to say I missed some school time during that period of my life.

My dad was my hero. He was always there for me. When I was 15 a police officer came to my school and brought me home where the news broke out that my dad had a heart attack at work and passed away. I was crushed. My hero was gone. A part of me wanted to jump in front of a car and end it because the pain from his death was unbearable but I managed to control it with continuing playing hockey. I believe I used all my anger and frustration on the ice which in the end made me a better player.

I would eventually get noticed by the Ottawa OHL team and they drafted me in the 4th round. I played left wing my whole life but the team was short on RW and my coach switched my position. In reality, I didn't care. I was still playing hockey. But ever since that change, my game was night and day. I was scoring goals almost every game. at least getting an assist if I didn't. I met my best friend Edward Traverse on this team. We bonded pretty quick and hung out all the time after games. We went deep in the playoffs and lost double over time for game 7 for the cup. we were so close. I believe scouts were at the game because shortly after that I got a contract to play in the VHLM for the Bulls.

Achilles reacted to JCarson in Molly the Cat, a recap at game 51. The quest continues
We are now 51 games into the S85 season and Molly the Cat’s quest continues. Last time we caught up with our VHL Rookie was right after game 37. In the last 14 games Molly the Cat has been working hard to achieve their goal of Rookie of the Year.

Below you will find a quick statistical comparison of Molly the Cat showing results at game 37 compared to game 51.
                                 Game 37         Game 51
    Goals                         17                 27
    Assists                      20               25
    Points                       37                 52
    +/-                             17                  18
    Game winners           3                    6

Molly the Cat has continued to rack up the points, finally taking the lead on the rookie points leaderboard. The next closest competitor is Pheobe Bridger with 48 points in 50 games. Which means that the competition will continue to be fierce over the remaining 21 games. What is important to point out about Molly the Cat’s points contribution over the last 14 games was that most of those were goals, including 3 game winners. In addition, a number of those points were gained against top teams, including a 4-point night against Seattle Bears (3 goals, 1 assist) and a 2-goal night against the DC Dragons.

If the contributions on the ice continue for Molly the Cat it will be hard for their name to be held off the ballot for Rookie of the Year. Everyone knows that anything can happen in the last third of the season, so it is not a lock at this point. The fans of the VHL must be enjoying the competition this year.

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Marlins have officially named their leadership core at the midseason mark! Due to their small roster that consisted of four players, the team chose to go without any letters to start out. However, with an expanded group of players, the time has now come to reveal the captains of the S85 Marlins squad!

    CAPTAIN - SJIN  @Mint
Sjin has proven to be an absolute force in the locker room, aptly earning him the captain’s “C” with 83% of the votes from his teammates. Originally one of the waiver Marlins from S84, the center was drafted by the Miami Marauders 51st overall before making his return to San Diego in exchange for Tristen Gorlim, where he has since put up spectacular numbers with increased ice time. He was the center that the Marlins desperately needed. Sjin currently has 14 goals and 27 assists to his name this season.

    ASSISTANT CAPTAIN - VINCENT LAROCHE-GAGNIER @vincentlg2007
Another S84 Marlin who returned to San Diego at pick 22, LW Vincent Laroche-Gagnier— also known as VLG— has made a notable impact on the Marlins’ morale and the score sheet. Vincent has also shown off great prowess this season for the Marlins, leading them in points with 28 goals and 26 assists. He’s shown clear growth in his play on the ice and locker room activity this season, earning him the “A”.

ASSISTANT CAPTAIN - ADAM RAGE @MrMom
A fresh new face in the Marlins locker room this season, RW Adam Rage has demonstrated his high potential after being selected 32nd overall. A standout in the Junior Showcase Tournament for the Brigade last offseason, Rage has helped generate a majority of the Marlins’ offense along with fellow linemates Sjin and VLG, earning him the assistant’s “A” for his efforts. He currently has 22 goals and 25 assists under his belt.

    ASSISTANT CAPTAIN - LACHLAN SUMMERS
G Lachlan Summers rounds out our leadership group, drafted at 6th overall. Another familiar face for the Marlins, Summers has backstopped them to multiple wins this season with a 0.918 save percentage and 2.36 GAA, as well as an impressive 4 shutouts. He is a vocal member of the locker room and aims to lead his team to a deep playoff run. Summers was also named an assistant captain in the previous season.

Achilles reacted to Agito in The Shaw Curse
Contributing to the Shaw curse is probably a big regret for me. Sometimes there are situations that cause people's experience to be destroyed and I am totally sorry if you had a bad experience. I have to say that I left because I didn't like the system before this one. The one today is very interesting and complete. Especially for new players, who can afford to earn more TPE without necessarily being a graphic designer or a great writer. The way the system was set up before did not make people want to play, because there was no great strategy for people who were not talented writers or graphic designers. Going up to TPE with 6 TPEs every week? Impossible to make a good season and still about 8-9 seasons at most 11 seasons. It was very complicated to do something good. When you see that the staff can afford TPE. You see the big difference and it doesn't make you want to continue because you know that you won't get the 1000 TPE. Anyway, that was the player's side. Concerning the Gming, this is another world. You know the aspects behind it. I may not have been as ready as I am today as a Toronto agm. Minion is a great person to work with because the communication was there. However, I had very little experience with this. I didn't know the team I was working with very well so it's very hard to know where to start when you're an unknown. I couldn't give confidence to the players when I didn't know where to give confidence to the unknown. So that's why I left the GMing position.

And I'm still sorry to have participated in the continuation of your curse.
I hope on my behalf that you can understand the details that consider this excuse.
As a player, as an assistant. As a human being, I hope you had a great experience as a member of the Geneva! If you feel like talking, you can send me a private message on the forum or on Discord: Agito#4842

Achilles reacted to JCarson in Roll of the VHLM GM
This media post is going to discuss the role of the GM in assisting first generation players through their first character’s career. With the hopes that as a league we can increase player retention.

The first thing I want to note is that I can only add input to this discussion from my perspective, and I must admit that I have had a enjoyable experience. I am currently in my third year and have had three different experiences with GM/AGM for my teams, none of which were negative. So, I will admit that this is not going to be a compete discussion on the topic, but I think of it as a starting point.

Point 1 – First generation players know nothing about the league, its’ history, its’ structure, how the systems work. Let me repeat that so it is clear, we know nothing. The GM’s first role needs to be assisting the player in navigating the system and assisting them in getting to a team, not bombarding them with waiver pitches to have them make a choice about something they have no clue about. It might seem like a small thing but when you are sitting in an already confused state, to now be asked to make another decision with zero information does not help any player feel welcomed.

Point 2 – VHLM GM need to be hands on to assist first generation players in quickly learning about player development, gaining TPE, claiming first gen bonus, first career tasks, what player store purchases will allow them to best develop, etc. As a side note to this topic, I want to suggest that the league really look at how TPE is earned and allow more options, by admitting that first generation players have enough to navigate that trying to find answers to the trivia questions is ridiculous. (Remember we know nothing) With the various changes that have occurred over the years there is no consistent methodology for finding answers.

Point 3 – VHLM GM needs to have a lot of patience and an active AGM can really help. As first-generation players we will ask a lot of questions and potentially not the right ones. Please have patience and walk-through things with us. The normal, at least North American, concept of doing something focusses on achieving perfection the first time (a little unrealistic but the truth). In other words, we may ask you with every TPE we earn where that should be put. Walk the journey with us, provide guidance, provide context and perspective. Be a sounding board. Also make sure to tell us about things we have no clue about, things like career tasks, first generation bonus and player store purchases.

Point 4 – VHLM GM needs to help players get connected to the larger VHL community. Your discord servers are a suitable place for team communication but at some point, players need to interact with the outside VHL community. Encourage your players to reach out in the forum, to write articles about their experience, to put themselves out there. Warn them that someone as part of the old guard might get defensive, but that others will understand. Help them understand that most articles do not cause instant change, but many can open conversations. Help them get engaged in what the future might look like and they might be around to help achieve that future.

Point 5 – VHLM GM is not an entry point for promotion to other leagues. These people have a specific and incredibly important job. VHLM GM are the ones tasked with helping first generation players with becoming long term members of the VHL. If they do their job correctly then recruitment becomes easier as you will need to recruit less each year.

    Anyway those are my thoughts.
  24. Very Nice
Achilles reacted to ThePerfectNut in New York Americans NEEDS to rebuild
New York had a two-year window with this team, but with a horrible season despite having a couple of talented guys on the roster, New York must finally go into a complete rebuild instead. Each season, they try to be competitive by signing a couple of good free agents, but they never go anywhere with them and they end up leaving the following season.
The locker room is becoming a desert and morals are very low right now and even though nobody has spoken out loud about it, it feels like most people are hoping to get out of this team.
New York does not have any picks for the upcoming draft, so this is the perfect chance to stack some right now before they lose their players for nothing.
Augustus Kennedy is a very young goalie who's one of the best goalies in the league already, but it's really hard to trade goalies in this despite him being a really good asset for picks. I think he should stay on the team tho.

Sven Eightnine is in the last season of his contract and it's 100% guaranteed that he is leaving NY so trading him for some kinda pick would be the move right now.

Poop Peepants still have a season left of his contract and he has 1120 TPA. He is having a horrible season for NY, but he would be huge on another team possibly. Another asset for a decent pick right now.

Trading Henri le Massif and Taylor Mourning would be good assets to get picks as well. They want to win now and it's not happening with this team.

Yun Chiang will most likely decline his player option, so another asset to trade with.

Daniel Weaver has shown not wanting to play for NY even before the draft, yet they still drafted him. He is already shown to places that he already wants to be traded and will not put in the work for NY in the next 2 seasons. He was a top 5 pick so he could be the biggest asset on the team, getting a top 5 pick for this team in the upcoming draft.

With NY only having a 3rd round pick, this is the time to trade for assets or the future of this team will really be in jeopardy...
  25. Cheers
Achilles reacted to Beketov in VHLM Simming
FWIW this thread wasn’t even “why are sims late” it was “why are VHLM sims later than VHL sims, the answer to which is that it’s a different summer with a different schedule. On the whole we do try to be consistent with our times but we’re all different people so they aren’t all going to happen at the same time. I’m realizing it is actually possible that @Achilles joined while @MexicanCow123 was handling all three leagues so they actually would have been all together and it’s possible they assumed that was the norm when it isn’t.

Also us old farts never had times like that because we would go days at a time sometimes with no sims and just accepted it was an inevitability
