  1. For some ridiculous reason, Trifecta and Bushito were pissy over the Dynamo calling up Peter Quill from the Oslo Storm. Trifecta claimed that Smarch was contributing to the death of the VHLM with this move, and Bushito commented that players should have to play the entire season in the VHLM to get the achievement tracker bonus. Bushito also said that this appeared to be a move made to spite Oslo, but then later mentioned that Smarch told him two hours after drafting him that he was going to be calling him up. It was a move that Davos had planned from the very beginning of the season. Bushito knew it was going to happen. Truthfully, Bushito's part in the thread was not nearly as bad as Trifecta's. Trifecta's claim that this move is fucking over the VHLM is ridiculous. I would have to say that if this type of move is something that will negatively affect the VHLM, then there is a much bigger problem with the VHLM. Here's the thing: the VHLM is a developmental league. Truthfully, I think this is the kind of thing that should be happening more often. It certainly shouldn't be discouraged by completely taking away the bonus eligibility for a player who doesn't play the whole season down there. Players aren't in the VHLM to help a team win. If you want to say that a team is screwed over when a team calls up a player, I guess fine, it does certainly hurt the team. But should anyone care? No. The VHLM is a league for the players, not the teams. for mist4ke
  2. it's official the VHLM is deceased
  3. It's the VHLM. Yes, you can care about winning, but the league is for the players, not you.
  4. lol The VHLM is a developmental league. This is exactly how it should work. And if you're really that concerned with Oslo winning, just abandon your team again.
  5. Where does it say that call-ups can't get points from the achievement tracker? (actual question because I always thought they could)
  6. With just 15 games remaining for each team, there is a crowd atop the goals leaderboard. Four players are tied for the lead with 38. This includes New York teammates Diana Maxwell and Unassisted, Tyson Kohler of the Vikings, and up-and-comer Franchise Cornerstone. Maxwell is the reigning Brooks Trophy winner, and Unassisted also has one to his name. Just behind that quartet with 37 goals is another former winner, Pietro Maximoff. Down at 36 goals is the remainder of the top ten, with five players just two behind the leaders: Theo Axelsson, Black Velvet, Pierre Gaudette, Essian Ravenwing, and Bo Boeser. In the history of the VHL, there have only been three seasons in which the goals lead was a tie, the most recent being in S31. Never have we seen a tie of more than two people. With how close the race is at the moment, we could be heading in that direction. Also, it is worth noting that 38 goals through 57 games puts the leading four on a pace to finish with just 48 goals, which would tie the second fewest goals to lead a season. The record low is 46, by Leander Kaelin in S14. However, that's just a simple calculation not factoring in the remaining schedules, which could definitely play a role in the race given the wide gap between top and bottom teams.

  9. Mid-Season Awards We're just beyond the mid-way point in the season and races are heating up - well, at the top they are, anyway. Nine points separate first (Helsinki) and fourth (New York) place overall, and top spot in each conference is held by a lead five or fewer points. Davos and Calgary are pretty well set at third in their respective conference, and the battle for last place has three teams within a range of seven points. That's how the team standings are shaping up, but how about the individuals? I'm going to be giving some recognition to those top players with some mid-season awards. Keep in mind these are not predictions or thoughts on who will end up winning; they are based solely on the games that have been played without taking too in depth of a look at everything. Most Valuable Player Jacob @Higgins By the same line of thinking that made Apollo Skye the MVP in S53, Jacob is arguably the mid-season winner this season. With a 0.930 save percentage, he's among the leading goalies in at least that statistic. He isn't completely without help, as Travis Gowecny and Marc-Alexander LeBlanc are both over a point-per-game, but Jacob is the clear stand-out on the team. The Wranglers are solidly in a playoff position, with more distance separating them from fourth place than first place in the conference. They aren't an awful team, thanks in large part to Jacob's performance this season. Honorable mentions: Unassisted (NYA), Diana Maxwell (NYA) Top Defenseman Roman Sokolov @Beketov This is always one of the hardest decisions to make. I ultimately settled on Roman Sokolov, who had more goals, points, and shots blocked than the other top candidates (and just one fewer hit than Bobby Digital). Considering all that, it's more clear-cut than usual. Sokolov is one of the leaders on this young Toronto team that has won some games that you wouldn't expect them to. If he can prove this isn't just a fluke, the future of the Legion will be looking bright. Honorable mentions: Bobby Digital (NYA), Fabio Jokinen (QUE) Top Two-Way Forward Fook Yu @tfong Noticing a trend? The young bucks are taking over; Jacob, Sokolov, and Fook Yu are all second year players. Yu leads the league in hits with 219, and his 47 points are certainly enough. We knew coming into the season that he had a good physical presence on the ice, but his offensive game was still in question. It would seem that he's proving himself, and I expect him to be a candidate for this award for years to come. Honorable mentions: n/a Top Goalie Astrid Moon @The Trollfecta In recent seasons, we've seen the single-season GAA record climb down further and further, with Rhett DeGrath's 1.33 mark from last season setting the newest low. Currently, Astrid Moon is on pace to break at, sitting at 1.22 for now. In addition to his healthy lead in GAA, he is tied at the top with a 0.931 save percentage and leads the league with 13 shutouts. He is even a perfect 7/7 in penalty shots. By just about every measure, Astrid Moon has the best numbers thus far. Honorable mentions: Rhett DeGrath (STO), Jacob (CGY)

  11. Who needs Roman Sokolov when you've got five of the top 15 skaters and the top goalie? While Sokolov was again the best player, during the second quarter of play, the 2nd-4th best skaters were all on my team (Unassisted, Aleksei Federov, and Bobby Digital). My worst player is Fook Yu, whose 102.6 fantasy points ranks him at 15th among skaters. But keep in mind that there are also multiple players above him who nobody has on their teams. Of the 25 skaters that my Group 4 opponents have, only six players have more fantasy points than Yu. Three of those players are on @DollarAndADream's second place team. Bo Boeser continues to be a surprise, and the rest of his players are holding up nicely with the exception of Tobias Klingberg, a blemish on this roster that makes me feel comfortable in my lead. Despite having the second worst Q2 in the group, @punkhippie does currently hold on to his third place spot. Roman Sokolov is carrying him hard, as he has three players under 80 and the worst goalie in the group. Axelberry did improve this quarter, though. John Locke had a worse performance and is currently the worst player on the team after a decent Q1. Having the third best Q2, @der meister moves up a spot from 5th place to 4th. A strong performance from his own Essian Ravenwing helped boost his team. Ravenwing being his worst player at 82.4 fantasy points is not a bad mark (every team but mine has at least one worse player), though his best player (Guntis Petenis) has only 104.4 fantasy points (every team in the group has at least one better player). @Higgins swapped spots in the standings with der meister because his team sucks. @canucks30 is still 6th and I've written enough words.
  12. I think it's safe to say Roman Sokolov has solidified himself as the fantasy darling this season. He once again led in fantasy points this quarter, though with a slightly worse total than the last. Though his lead over the second best was not as great, only one other player from the top five in Q1 was once again in the top five, that being Aleksei Federov (2nd in Q1; 3rd in Q2; 2nd overall). Unassisted made a strong jump in the recent games, scoring 72.8 fantasy points this quarter. This was a good improvement on his already respectable 58.2 from before. New York players across the board saw better performances, thanks in part to an easier schedule. The largest improvement came from Essian Ravenwing, who had just 27.2 fantasy points last quarter (placing him 55th of 72 skaters), as he doubled his fantasy production with 55.2 fantasy points this quarter (13th). For the goalies, Astrid Moon cooled down as his shutout pace did not continue. He was 6th among goalies for the quarter, but he does remain the top goalie for the season overall. It was Calgary's Jacob who led the goalies this quarter, but the scores were much closer as less than two fantasy points separated the top four. for mist4ke
