  1. It was a rhetorical question suggesting to him that it would be better to make a conference opponent have a worse pick.
  2. The Dynamo are looking to rejoin the upper echelon of teams in the VHL, but their early season struggled against the reigning champions showed that they aren't quite there yet. Since losing ten of their first 12 games (including a 1-6-1 record vs Helsinki), the Dynamo have been playing better, but they have still lost games that they feel like they should be winning (Cologne, Toronto). Most recently, however, they have been on a win streak of seven games, bringing their season record up to 15-15-1. During the stretch, they have beaten Calgary twice and Quebec once. The wins against Riga and Toronto are not quite as impressive, but if they want to be considered a top team, then they do need to show that they can consistently perform well against the weaker teams. With several upcoming games against the Reign and the Bears, the Dynamo could extend this streak to double digits before they get back to playing against contending teams. Hopefully they can build momentum off of these easy games and carry that over into the tougher games. for Maxwell
  3. The Americans lack of depth proved to be a problem last season, and this season hasn't been a whole lot better. For much of the season, they've been in a close battle with the Wranglers for second place in North America despite the expectations that New York would still be in contention for a Cup. While I believe this is more a factor of the Wranglers easier schedule thus far, New York's early struggle to keep up with Quebec was not a good sign, regardless of where they are relative to Calgary. They haven't been awful, but they have been a bit inconsistent, losing games to teams that you wouldn't expect them to lose while still being capable of beating top tier teams. Recently, they've gone through an easy stretch of games, and they've managed to create an eight-game winning streak. Prior to this streak, the longest of the season was just four wins. They have played a combined seven games during this stretch against Seattle, Cologne, and Toronto, so to see them winning these games is not a surprise. They did also have a win over Stockholm during this streak, which is good to see from them. After one more game with the Express, the Americans will be tested with back to back games vs the Meute, followed by another match with the Vikings. for mist4ke
  4. Meute win three in a row vs Titans, claim first place The Helsinki Titans bursted out of the gates this season, losing just two games in their first 25. With Franchise Cornerstone having a breakout year and Astrid Moon looking unbeatable, the reigning champions were proving that they were still the best team in the league. A recent slump, however, has dropped them into second place in the overall standings. While they have succeeded against other playoff hopefuls in Davos and New York, their recent string of games against Quebec has given them trouble. The Titans have played the Meute in four of their last five games; after winning the first of these four, the rest have ended in defeat. Helsinki got off to a fast start in the first game in the season series with Quebec. They scored three goals within the first two minutes, and despite the Meute responding with two later in the period, that was enough to get the win. Cornerstone did add an insurance goal later on, giving him two goals and an assist in the game. The Titans were continuing their dominating ways, but the next few games would show their mortality. Astrid Moon has been a top goalie since his notoriously bad S53 playoff performance. The first of the their losses was a case of former MVP Apollo Skye playing his heart out. The Titans did score the first goal of the game on a power play, but Skye made 47 saves in the game to keep Helsinki at just the one. AK47 and Pierre Gaudette scored goals for the Meute, giving them just enough to take the game. The next game between the two started out similarly, with Helsinki getting on the board first with Black Velvet scoring quickly in the first period. The Meute seemed to figure out Astrid Moon in this game. John Locke in particular was playing well, scoring his second hat trick of the season. Gaudette assisted on all four of Quebec's goals, while Skye held the Titans to just two. In the third game, the depth of the Meute roster really showed. Goals were scored by Titan Kronos, Fook Yu, and Lukas Muller with six different players each getting one assist. Velvet scored the lone goal for Helsinki. The Titans will have to wait a bit before they get a chance at revenge. It should be a welcome reprieve for them and a good chance to climb back to first. With a relatively easy schedule on the horizon for Helsinki, it's possible that they don't lose another game before they see the Meute again, though that would require a couple wins against Stockholm. Quebec's lead in the standings is not even really a strict lead, as they have played two more games they Helsinki and are just a point ahead of them. Overall, though, things have been getting closer at the top of the standings all around. The Vikings have gained some ground on the Titans thanks to the recent losses, while the Americans have had an easy stretch allowing them to come within six points of the Meute. Hopefully things continue to be close, giving us a good Victory Cup and playoff races.

  6. Oh, yeah I suppose earlier years aren't included because they were probably lost in the forum switch.
  7. Currently I'm leading my VHFL group, which is to be expected, honestly. Astrid Moon is doing work, but I also have a great group of skaters. Every player on my team is currently above 50 fantasy points (three of the other teams don't have a single skater above 50). My only concern is Astrid Moon's shutout pace slowing down allowing other goalies to catch up to him, but he'll continue to get wins, and honestly, it's not like he has played a remarkably easy schedule. Eight of his games have been against Davos, who aren't a top tier team, but there are certainly others that are worse. In second is @DollarAndADream, whose pick of Bo Boeser has not cost him at all. In fact, Boeser is doing damn fine. Jakab Holik has been a relative disappointment, and Tobias Klingberg is holding his team back a bit. His forwards are top notch, though, with three of the top four fantasy forwards (Franchise Cornerston, Boeser, and Diana Maxwell) on his roster. In third right now is @punkhippie, who I'd be more concerned about due to his possession of Roman Sokolov, but am not because his homer pick of Vernon Von Axelberry makes up for that (in a bad way). Phil Shankly and John Locke are also not doing too well, though I could see them picking up their performances. Next is @Higgins, someone who usually does well in VHFL. This season, he picked Hudson Abbott for some reason and he isn't doing so hot. The rest of his skaters are in the 40-45 FP range, so nothing to write home about, though he does have the second best goalie, Apollo Skye. @canucks30 is 5th, with no real standout on his roster. Rhett DeGrath doesn't quite compare to other top fantasy goalies, and we are seeing disappointing seasons from Lukas Muller and Pietro Maximoff. Those three players could be performing a lot better, and if they start to, I could see this team rising a bit. Bringing up the rear is @der meister, who doesn't have someone like Sokolov to make up for his not-so-great goalie pick of Torstein Ironside. Black Velvet is having a disappointing fantasy campaign, and Essian Ravenwing is the worst scoring fantasy player on any team in group four. Current Group 4 Standings 1. Strtlght - 356.33 2. DollarAndADream - 327.84 3. punkhippie - 319.06 4. Higgins - 272.12 5. canucks30 - 264.97 6. der meister - 257.30 for Maxwell
  8. We're approximately 1/4 of the way through the season, so here I am, your leader in VHFL coverage, to tell you all about what's going on. I know some drafts might not be finished quite yet, so if you haven't been paying attention to which players are leading in fantasy scoring, maybe this can help you 'cheat' your draft a bit. Roman Sokolov is the fantasy darling this season. With 98 fantasy points, he is well above the next highest skater. This doesn't come as a shock to me, as I had my money on Aleksei Federov or Sokolov to be 'that guy' this season (though tbh, I was leaning toward Federov, so I was a bit wrong). Federov is still doing fine in his own right, ranking fourth among skaters with 61.2 FP. Between the two of them are Tomas Syndergaard (67) and Felix Savard (62.8). That's four defenseman leading the skaters in fantasy points, which doesn't really surprise me. In fact, as far as defensemen go, it's wise to look more toward the players on bottom half teams. Bobby Digital, the highest ranking fantasy defenseman on one of the better teams, is just the 8th highest defenseman. Fabio Jokinen is 12th. These are two of the best defensemen in the league, but as far as fantasy goes, there are a number of seemingly better options. As for goalies, you should probably expect that Astrid Moon is the top dog, assuming you're aware of his league-leading nine shutouts. Not a whole lot else to say about goalies, honestly. It's pretty straightforward what goes on there. As for forwards, there are some names you'd expect to be near the top who are (Franchise Cornerstone, Unassisted, and Diana Maxwell are all top four) and some players who you may be surprised by (Bo Boeser is the second best fantasy forward thus far, which is the number one surprise to me). Kendrick Cole rounds out the top five forwards, which isn't terribly surprising, but I wouldn't have bet on him. for mist4ke
