Claimed: On a crash course with myself [1/2]

True, but we're competitive, it would be odd to trade people away -
This is a weird feeling, building a player who's actually supposed to be a scorer. It's something that in all my time in this league, I've never done and I've never thought I'd do. Still not entirely sure if I like it, but ultimately Lawson's not doing too badly. 46 points so far, not quite PPG but I'm also starting from scratch, lost all my carryover dropping from Brookside down to Hyvarinen down to Hrdina. I'm fully expecting Lawson to pass Hrdina by the start of next season, and to pass Hyvarinen somewhere around the midpoint of his career, although that all is just TPE, rather than effectiveness in the sim. I'm hoping for some sim luck for once. Who knows if it happens, probably not. All I honestly want is to enjoy this player. I enjoyed Intranquilo immensely and he had no sim luck at all, I enjoyed the first part of Marcellin before I moved him to defense (I always felt like he wasn't defensive enough) and I enjoyed Brookside off and on depending on where it was in his career. Hopefully Lawson can add to that.

It's a weird experience, being a player on one VHLM team and helping to GM another team. It's not necessarily going to amount to much, considering the cyclical nature of the VHLM, if one team is good and the other is rebuilding - the two should just flip for the following season and then keep alternating between themselves into perpetuity, or at least until the player is in the VHL. This, however, is not the case this year. The Las Vegas Aces (where my player, Evan R. Lawson, is a mediocre left winger) and the Oslo Storm (where I'm kind of helping Boragina along although he's doing just fine on his own to be honest) are set to be the 2 and 3 seeds in the playoffs and face each other in the first round (or second, if you consider the 4 and 5 seed series its own round). In fact, there's a good margin between these two teams and either the 1 or 4 seed, and the only real movement either team is likely to do is to flip flop between themselves. It's almost certainly a conflict of interest, but at the same time it means that no matter what, I'm guaranteed to have some preference in the finals (although as the underdog to one of the best teams the league has ever seen, so it will most likely be irrelevant). So here's where I have to decide which team I'd prefer in the almost certain scenario where they play each other. In favor of Vegas, I played for them briefly with Hrdina as well before being traded, so that's both a positive and a negative (a positive in that Spade signed me from FA once and also drafted me once, but a negative in that he ultimately traded me away last time, although I don't see that coming this time). Lawson's doing decently in the league this year, and I'm not typically one to get actual success with players, so that's interesting. Obviously "doing decently" is relative, 46 points in 52 games isn't even remotely approaching the top few players, considering there are 14 players with more than double my total (and Adam Warlock is a single point short of having 4 times as much as me) but as a brand new player who didn't have carryover it's still honestly pretty decent. In favor of Oslo, they were the last team I GMed before I went inactive, and I didn't really do right by them, so this is kind of the opportunity to right the ship. Technically, though, I hold no official position. Bora and I are kind of co-running it, but he's the official one, he's the one that can post deals for new players and that sort of thing, and my advisory role isn't really a role at all. Plus I trust Bora to be better for Oslo than I was back when I was the actual GM of them (and I hope for his sake that he can get up there toward my time GMing Ottawa, that would be a hell of a way to leave his legacy on that team). I guess in general, I'm leaning slightly toward Vegas, but honestly I just want either one to upset Ottawa in the finals (or for Yukon to upset Ottawa in round 2 and then fall to the new favorite in either Oslo or Vegas).

I remember the good old days - Maester Chershenko used to tell us stories growing up about the days when the French walked the earth. According to the stories, they could talk the First Players to death with a single comment, and then some legendary heroes locked them behind the zamboni closet, never to be seen from again. Of course, these were just stories, tales of intrigue to expand the minds and curiosities of budding young players. Can you imagine something so scary? French people, wandering among us? Where if you turn around the wrong corner at the wrong time, you could be met with a barrage of arguments and your untimely demise? Thankfully, we don't have to worry about that, everyone knows the French are just a myth.

Probably, but one that's more cunning and sneaky than outright cruel. Kind of a S1-4 Littlefinger before he got all creeper on everything.

He's a D why would we play him as goalie?

Oh this'll be fun...

I don't really want to commit fully at the moment (I'm in a tired stupor but can't seem to fall asleep, when I'm in full charge of my faculties again I may not want to take this on) but I'm thinking of doing a GOT style series with VHL former players, except the Iron Throne is the role of Commissioner of the League (Commissioner of the storyline hockey version, not commissioner of the forums, so it would not be a replacement in-lore for @Will @Beketov @Devise). Loosely inspired by the VERY OLD series by @JardyB10 the assassination of David Knight or whatever it was, but not actually that at all, just kind of in the same vein. I guess in a way it would be an episodic similarly to King and Mulligan, in that it would exist in the fictional VHL-specific world but wouldn't really directly have anything to do with the on ice performance in the sim or anything. I'm looking for two things here, should I decide to move forward: 1. Members who have had a former player, who have not given their player a canonical ending (as in, when you retired the player, you didn't write anything about what happened to the player, his/her official storyline isn't that he/she's dead or an NHLer or what have you) who would be willing to use their player in this series. Please list the player or players you'd be willing to use below. State if you'd like the player to be mostly good, mostly bad, or solidly in the middle, or that you don't care and he/she can be any. 2. Members who have not had a former player (i.e. first gens) or have had brief stints with players but haven't really had one retire, you guys can create one character per member to enter into this series. Put a name, hypothetically the position this character played when he/she theoretically would have been in the league, and again a good/bad/middle preference if you have one. Your character may die (most probably will, it's GOT style after all) but you don't have to consider the series the canonical end of your player, even if so. I'll also be throwing in some old players from members who are long since gone, mostly to make up the smallfolk or minor less-important characters (Hot Pie, Ilyn Payne type characters) although perhaps with a few playing more key roles (Scotty as a Jon Arryn style kickoff character kind of writes itself). Members who are here will generally have at least mid-important roles in the storyline. Setting is of course more of a modern day.

I'll give you the same question as Bek: Someone is giving you $500 but they're making you bet it on the winner of the league this year. You can bet it in any increments you want (all 500 on the team you think will win, or split it among 2-3 teams to hedge your bets in different amounts, or evenly 62.50 per team if you really felt the need to do that, etc). How do you choose to bet it?
-
I have Lawson in the VHLM, I can't also have Hrdina there. He's not a P2, Hrdina is retired, this is his retirement season.
-
I'd probably write here and link there more often than the other way around. I know hockey better than football. Plus I'm not even in SBA (I really couldn't get into it back in the day, just not a basketball guy in the least)

Oslo would claim but Vegas is highest up and has already claimed

So I'm probably the last person you'd expect to hear this from, but I think the bio minimum length should be smaller. I get it's a lot of TPE for one thing, but they can produce some interesting stories and no one reads them anyway. I think a shorter minimum (even if people ended up then exceeding the current minimum) would potentially promote people reading them at a minimum. I'd like to say it would also promote people commenting, but people barely even comment on regular PT articles...

Erik Karlsson is the only player I hate where it's not a team thing. I don't mind the Sens but I can't stand him

I need in Oslo and out of Ottawa

I would think you're definitely in the discussion, obviously a lot comes down to the rest of the career too
