We've flown around it in every conceivable direction. If it was flat, a lot of those planes would have crashed or not gotten to their destinations. Wind patterns, storms, earthquakes/fault lines, all based on the magnetic field created by a round earth with poles. I can't believe I'm actually having to sit here and explain why we know the earth is round, this isn't the 1500s, Galileo has been born and died.

The parts of it that have fact basis behind them (IQ test averages, EEG/scans of brain function during activities, all adjusted per race) can be false, but in doing so, they're not opinions, they're statements of value. The rest of it, as abhorrent of a belief as it is (and I strongly disbelieve it, of course), technically isn't false because again it's an opinion.

Big paragraph of text that makes this seem like an office job, but when you get out to the interview, you discover it's either door to door or an MLM.

(Yes, I seriously just wrote a 590 on not having LR access. Not that urgent of an issue but it gave me a topic.)

Despite his recent trade, Vaclav Hrdina has still yet to receive a set of keys to the Ottawa team facilities. He can get into the locker room to change and prepare for games, but only because he has an unusual method of going about it: he waits at the beginning of the hallway, finds someone else on the team who is going in, and walks behind them to enter before the door locks behind him. He can't, however, use team workout facilities or anything else in the building outside of the publicly accessible areas. It works out well enough because he has access to New York's facilities, and VHL facilities are bigger and more up to date anyway, and New York isn't that far from Ottawa (plus Las Vegas never asked him for his key back, so he could get in there as well, should he choose to do so). This will, of course, all be sorted in time, but as it stands right now, it's a bit of a workaround for Hrdina.

Watching a player play a sport and determining how good you think he is, while statistics can help sway an argument, they can't clearly and definitively prove anything one way or the other, so it is something on which opinions can be held. An example of this: there's a soccer player, Claudio Pizarro, that has some super high goal totals over his career. He cherry picked many of them, playing just on the verge of offside, and so I think he is less good than the general consensus because I'm reading something into his play that isn't in the stats. Others might think he is better, because they might say that being able to manipulate offside to that extent is a talent in its own right. Since there is no factual place (i.e. it can't be said he is exactly X amount of good based on empirical data) then opinions can be held, and they can't be wrong as they're a matter of the personal thoughts of the individual. On the contrary, an opinion can't be held on the number of goals he has, as it is an empirical fact. He has X amount of goals, not looking up the number right now, but I can't just decide he has greater or fewer goals than that.

It's not something one can hold an opinion on. If you think that the earth is flat, that is a statement of value, since it can be verified by statistical evidence that it is not flat. As a statement of value, it's false, but it's not an opinion.

N.A. Conference Playoff Odds [1/2]

80+85+60+60+20=305 I honestly didn't expect it to match up that closely to 300. Then again it's you so I guess I shouldn't be surprised, you always put in work to make sure these things are accurate -
I don't have the time or energy to look up anything regarding the actual argument at hand, but the following is and remains true regardless of the argument: OPINIONS. CAN'T. BE. FALSE. Opinions aren't statements of value. They are neither true nor false, they merely exist.

I like this idea. I'm not really concerned about Kyle's point because there's so much out there - it's hard to think things will run out for review when so much else isn't reviewed. I know for me, it's always going to be easier to just write something than sit and review all these, so I think not wanting to put in effort on a given week would lend itself more to doing the PT than doing all the reviews. At the same time, there are those for whom doing a PT isn't as simple as just sitting there and doing it. This might be an option for those people.

Vaclav Hrdina, until recently of the Las Vegas Aces, found out just last night that he'd been traded to the Ottawa Lynx. It was actually pretty odd how it happened - the trade went through while Hrdina was sleeping, so his agent packed up his stuff and let him sleep to get ready for the next game. When Hrdina woke up, he was immediately whisked away to the airport to a charter plane provided by his new team, because they wanted him to play in a game only 6 hours after the trade was announced. When Hrdina arrived at the airport, he and his agent were directed to drive directly onto the tarmac, rather than going through the airport, where they were greeted by fellow traded player Colton Rayne and his agent and they all boarded the plane together. Once on the plane, Rayne filled Hrdina in on what was going on - at that point, he didn't really know anything about it other than the basics. Obviously the situation got to him a little, because he played in two games that night with Ottawa and failed to record a single point. Ultimately, this isn't that surprising, as the coach hadn't had time to do much with the lines and Hrdina was just kind of put somewhere, and also he'd not had a chance to develop chemistry with any of his teammates (other than of course, Rayne). This will come in time, though. For these games, he just had time to pull into the locker room, change, and play. His agent even needed to take a trip out to get some food while he got ready as they had no opportunity to stop. We'll see how the next games go. "You know, it's a whirlwind sometimes in hockey. Usually though, you expect to see big trades like this in the offseason or at the deadline, not at this point in the season. I chose Vegas in free agency, figuring I'd be there for a bit, at least to the deadline if not the end of the season, and then next thing you know, poof I'm Ottawa property. There are pros and cons to this type of thing of course. On one hand, I'm sure my playing time will be a lot less now, since I'm on a team with better players rather than the replacement level guys on Las Vegas, like that scrub BER D2. Less playing time will lead to smaller stat lines, but I've never really been a stats first guy, so it's fine. On the other hand, having more players around will make practice more interesting and the social atmosphere surrounding the team will be more interesting. Now it's weird to think about that, Ottawa having a better social atmosphere than the most social city on the continent, but it's about the team, not the city, and the team has more guys on it. One issue, though, is that since I didn't have a lot of notice, I had some stuff stashed away in my apartment in Vegas that my agent didn't know about, so couldn't get. I'll call up BER LW1 tomorrow and have him ship it out - maybe while he's here, he can try out for Ottawa too!"

Also, I'll be doing a media about this either later tonight (probably between 2:30 and 5ish am) or tomorrow (afternoon/evening). I had one written up, then lost it due to an error. That's what I get for trying to do it at work though

Is it bad that even this much later, I saw Calgary and it took me about 30 seconds to realize it wasn't my game?
-
I was confused at first because I hadn't heard anything about it, and it has happened in the past where people have posted trades that weren't actually finalized, so I wasn't sure if it was really a thing. I'm good either way tbh, and am looking forward to assisting and faceoffing the fuck out of some people in Ottawa

I didn't know I was being shipped though

Back to where it all began, I suppose. Beaviss you might not know this, but I was Ottawa GM from S20 to S25. 2 cups in that span also, S21 and S23. So of course, for history's sake, I have positive memories of Ottawa (even if they did change names)

8 goals for Vegas, 0 points for Hrdina

Technically not lying (although did get my hopes up). 10 kittens I won't believe are real, because they're not real. In fact, there are 173.6 not real kittens in this thread, and one real sig. -

Vaclav Hrdina is officially back in the VHLM. For a young player with documented motivation issues, signing with a team in a big party city such as Las Vegas might not have been the wisest idea, but Hrdina has made it work for him so far. In 4 games, he has 2 goals and 5 assists - not fantastic stats once adjusted for the high offensive output of the VHLM, but not poor either. His 7 points are good for 4th on the team, behind Lavar Ball, Colton Rayne, and Mikka Toivonen. He also gets the second highest ice time on the team behind Ball. Not a bad performance for his first 4 games back to competitive hockey after several seasons of not playing. Hrdina's main goal at this point is to stay focused on the season ahead, and not get distracted by the excesses of Las Vegas - not an easy task when his teammate, Ber D2, has been going out every night and pestering the entire team to join him. However, it has shown in Ber D2's performances over the season, as he has no points, 6 PIM, and a -5 rating. Hrdina can see firsthand how letting the occasion get to him can cause problems, and the team might need to stage an intervention before it costs Ber D2 his job. The occasional night of fun is fine, but everything in moderation, and Ber D2 doesn't seem to understand that. Hrdina does, and that's why he's been so much more successful. Let's see if that keeps up for him.

I just met with Hermaeus Mora. He told me the winners of the VHL and VHLM, on the condition I didn't spread the info. Sorry everyone

Health and Fitness - Motivational Thread
diamond_ace replied to Advantage's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
I actually didn't wear any out fully during that, but I took 3 pair and rotated through them so I only put 1 race on each. I usually have 4-5 pair at a given time that I'll wear for different kind of races -

Sorry for the necropost, although to be fair this is a thread that could do with reviving. Just figured it would be the place for this: Last full week of September I ran 73 miles in 4 days. Full marathon Wed, full marathon Thu, 21 miles Sat. The original plan was for 5 full in 5 days - total of 131 miles - but it was excessively hot and on Sat I got an electrolyte imbalance strong enough to make my arm shake, so I called it there. I'll be the first to admit that none of this series was done at any real speed, for what that's worth - but given the mileage, that was definitely the smart plan. Back in April I ran a 50k, I don't think I was active here at the time, but I'm now officially an ultrarunner. Trap Pond in Delaware. I'm looking into a few in Philly over the next few years, so perhaps I can refuel afterward with a beverage with the Gows...
