  1. Review Great stuff with some good and detailed thoughts. I don't agree with every single one of them but all those are things worthy and discussing and it's great that you provide the numbers to base that discussion on. Formatting is clear and concise and gets the job done. The article got a bit hard to follow a few times when it wasn't completely clear how the thing you talked about connected to the overall point, but that's only a minor issue that didn't happen to often. 10/10
  2. For sure. As usual I tend to compare these things to the SHL which I generally prefer as a league, but they have gone all-in on test simming a few years back even while still on STHS and overall I think it hurt the league more than it helped and it ultimately led to STHS not even being feasible as an engine anymore because people found too many exploits and because we ended up with "meta" builds that you had to make if you wanted to be good. It's good to see that the VHL hasn't gone down that route. And over the last few years I have come to completely agree with you in that RNG is a good thing for these leagues, not a bad thing, even if it might be frustrating at times if you randomly lose to a team in the playoffs that you should've easily beat.
  3. It's definitely a factor for me even as someone who treats this as a side-league without the expectation to go for the full 12 every week. The tasks themselves are not overly work-intensive but there simply is a constant grind to them where you have to do the same 4-5 things over and over every week. And I'm not even doing Media Spots at the moment, from the outside they seem extremely unappealing to me unless I have a great idea for something I wanna write about which happens like once a year. 6 TPE for 500 words sounds reasonable but at the end of the day it's actually just 1-2 TPE for those 500 words since you can always get 4-5 through Welfare, and that ratio looks particularly unappealing both for the effort you need to invest in the writing itself, but even more so for the creativity that's required to come up with up to 52 of those pieces a year. It's good that we have Welfare because without it me and many others wouldn't be here, but it makes Media Spots etc. even more unappealing than they already are. PS: Can we claim Review TPE for VHL.com articles ?
  4. I completely agree with this sentiment! Leagues like this one tend to be more fun when you don't know all the details about the inner workings (and the weaknesses) of the engine imho, when there is a certain sense of wonder any uncertainty. Many leagues sooner or later hit a point where test-simming becomes the new cool thing to give you an edge and GMs and other front office stuff go hard on it and in my experience that usually ends up making things less fun for everyone involved in the end.
  5. 1. That the regular season doesn't matter when it comes to playoff time. No matter how many wins you racked up over the year, you always start at zero again in a playoff series. 2. Work hard to get better in every are, but especially the physical aspects of the game. 3. I don't care for this bigoted company, sorry. 4. I don't have any pets but I could never say no to a good loyal doggo! 5. Probably Center, as it would still allow me to embrace the defensive aspects of the game while also getting more involved offensively and playing a role that works very differently. 6. I think we have great leadership so I don't think I would change too much!
  6. Review Good stuff that gave some insight on your early experiences as a player and presented in very decent formatting. Good luck for the future, you found yourself a great team there in Philadelphia! 9/10
  7. Review Great job on this, loved the format as it worked very well for the content you presented. Maybe could have used some graphics but even without them it worked nicely! 9.5/10
  8. 2. I would say my player did about as you could expect from a rookie who went up early, a solid season but no really flashy numbers yet. Overall I'm fine with it. 4. Well the Philadelphia Reapers of course, my old team that still has a bunch of the people on the roster who I played with last season. 6. I'm currently considering whether it's worth it to invest into Hitting or not. It's not an attribute I wanted to go for early but at this point it's getting so cheap compared to everything else that it's tough to pass on it. 9. Either a nice vacation at a lake house if traveling abroad isn't an option, if it is then the Mediterranean! 10. I do not but I overheard some of my teammates talking about, maybe I will have to tune in some time... 11. How easy and straight-forward it is to navigate things compared to other leagues.
  9. Review Nice write-up on this aspect of the game that combines both stats and personal insight. I still have more than you though. There are a few little things that can be improved about the formatting especially in terms of punctuation, but it still worked perfectly well for the purposes of this article. I still have more SB than you though 9/10
  10. Review A fun list of places, I can definitely recommend coming to Europe and all the different cultures and landscapes it has to offer! It's interesting that you mention Cruises because they are one of those things that you kinda have to hate nowadays in a lot of social circles, but as someone who has never done one I still find them intriguing and would like to try one, especially one that takes me up North to a place like Alaska or Scandinavia. Formatting for the article was good enough and good the job done just well. 8.5/10
  11. Review Nice read, I've been to Prague before and have some friends from Czechia and it seems like an awesome country overall that I would definitely like to see more of . Formatting was also good, especially with those beautiful pictures! 9/10
  12. #WolfLove #ValentinesDay #PalentinesDay 1.) So in case you didn't know there is a fun trend where instead of going around and being all romantic on Valentines Day you actually spend it with your friends. You buy each other small tokens like you would have in grade school ( or you adult it up more lol ppl make things their own) and just make the holiday more accessible to everyone by expanding the definition of love and how we celebrate this holiday. How do you feel about this trend. I haven't heard about this so far but that sounds like a pretty cool concept, would definitely be on board with it as long as it doesn't take on the feeling of a pity-party. 2.) Who would you give a Palentines gift to on your team? What are giving them and why? Answer 3.) I heard Blade likes to give out old school Valentines to all the players, she attaches Hershey's hugs to all of them. Attach a pic of the valentines you are sending out and tell us if you are including candy. will the whole team get them or only a special few.. and yes I heard @Beaviss can be bribed (below are the ones i will be giving out ) Answer 4.) Do you think Valentines day is a real holiday? Why or Why Not? To be completely honest, no. If you don't have a significant other then it's just depressing, and if you do then you should be celebrating your luck all throughout the year and not on a specific day. 5.)Do you have romantic plans for your Valentines day? Just some small ones but those are between me and my partner 6.) What do you consider to be a "sexy" or "romantic" song? Answer 7.) Have You (or Would you) ever kissed someone on a kiss cam? (Imagine it's not covid, it would be a horrible idea in covid lol) The concept is kinda lame but... I think I still would #ThemeWeek 8.) Do you think theme week themes should be told to the VHL general public in advance? Answer 9.) Are you a person who usually has they task doen way in advance or are you last minute? Do you feel that theme weeks affect how you get your tasks out? It's usually one or the other, either I get it done first thing in the week (like this time) or super last minute, with not that much in between. 10.) Did you know that they asked for theme week ideas? ( Apparently the blues are tapped out of ideas. No judgment, they have been at this a very long time lol) Did you suggest any ideas? if not did you read any ideas you loved?? No, as someone who doesn't follow things too closeley the whole theme week thing was new to me and I didn't learn of it until this post. 11.)For the record i just triple checked and there is still no theme announced at this point, put a Me too if you get to this before then announce a damn theme. If there is a theme was it worth the wait? Answer 12.) Do you think the chosen theme (when it is announced .....) was an easy one to incorporate into your media spots ? Answer 13.) post a gif that shows how you feel about your VHL season ( or VHLM season if your a prospect **Hi Wolf Pups**) Answer
  13. Review Good stuff, nice to see a new player join and read about his early experiences in the league! You could work on your formatting a little bit, just a few extra spaces and splitting the thing up into paragraphs will already go a long way in making it look a lot smoother without you having to put much extra effort into it. 7.5/10
  14. Review Interesting read and perspective on this issue. I gotta say, the whole GMs not necessarily being on their own team thing is still very weird for me, I'm curious to see how it will work out in the longer term. Formatting looked good on this one and i didn't catch any glaring mistakes! 8.5/10
  15. 1.) What is your Fav version of our Jersey? Home, Away, a holiday or Charity one? Describe it and why you love it. Answer 2.) You discover a beautiful island upon which you may build your own society. You make the rules. What is the first rule you put into place? Answer 3.) You have been given the opportunity to create the half-hour TV show of your own design. What is it called and what’s the premise? Answer 4.) Name the top five hockey related things to take with you during a zombie outbreak. (Think of things that you would have in your hockey bag, locker or at home) A stick, tape, water bottle, painkillers and a fucking Zamboni! 5.) What are things that management can do that makes you feel supported as a player? (what is important to you?) Answer 6.) If the Vancouver Wolves was a Hogwarts house what house would we be and why? For some reason I'm thinking Ravenclaw... I don't know, Wolves and Raven, just seems like a good fit! 7.) When fans see hockey players they often freak out, who is one of the people you would fan boy/ fan girl / fan person over? ( For example Venus Thightrap, is a huge comic book nerd so meeting someone like Robert Kanigher and Sheldon Moldoff who created Poision Ivy would mean a lot to her. Venus’ name is meant to be a nod to Ivy.) Answer 8.) When was the last time you screamed at the top of your lungs during a game? What were you yelling about? Answer 9.) When you go home and relaxing is on your mind what room do you go to and what do you do in it to wind down? (Venus is totally into long luxurious bubble baths, it has been said she often turns into a prune while playing her fav Spotify mix as she soaks the stress away of everyday life) Answer 10.) Is there anything hanging in your Team Locker that motivates you? A photograph but I'm not gonna tell you what's on it 11.) Do you have a pet? If so tell us about your fuzzy or perhaps not so fuzzy friend lol Not yet but I would love to get myself a good doggo boi some day! 12.) Which is one that show you cannot watch with anyone? For a long time it was Game of Thrones that I preferred to watch alone, nowadays it might be Marco Polo just because nobody else is even interested in watching that 13.) Give this Gif a hashtag : #whenyourcrushwatchesagame
  16. Review Nice read, presented in a simple and clean manner. I enjoyed both reading this from a sim and a real-life playing perspective even though I'm a forward who usually relies on his Defensemen to bail him out 9/10
  17. Review Nice interview, formatting looked very neat and clean and you gave this some nice flavor to actually make it seem like an interview situation and not just a random collection of statements you wanted to make. Also Kamkar certified steal for Vancouver! 9/10
  18. Hello VHL, I have a small suggestion regarding the general layout and the way we navigate the site. Simply said, it would be nice to be able to directly access the portal while on the forums, without having to go through the "VHL Portal" link at the topic. Would it be possible to have the same header that is present while on the portal (Home, Standings, Stats etc...) to also be visible while navigating the forums? I always find it a bit clumsy and annoying when you are navigating the boards and you quickly want to look up some stats, a player or the standings, it just feels like it needs an extra click or two that aren't necessary. So would this be possible to implement this from a technical standpoint, to basically have the Portal header visible atop the forum header (Browser, Create a Player, Update Player...)? Or is there maybe something that I haven't figured out yet in terms of navigating the site? Please let me know what you think about this idea or if there is something that I'm missing
  19. 1. I certainly do, it's fun to get a different perspective here and to see things done differently in some areas even where I would prefer other models. 2. Yupp I'm happy with my performance so far. Kinda sad that I couldn't keep my early pace from the start of my junior season up but that would've been unrealistic anyway. 3. FHM certainly is the better engine overall but STHS isn't without its charms and it kinda gives you a warm fuzzy feeling to come back to it. 4. I have done so both here and in the SHL but it has never really been the aspect that I enjoy most about these kinds of leagues, so I doubt I will return to it any time soon. 5. There are lots of nice brandings here so it's tough to single out specific ones, but I kinda love Malmo's unique color scheme. If I had pick one that's not really my favourite then it's probably the LA Stars which seem kinda bland and the London United which I just don't get 6. Eating too late, like right before going to bed, is one of my bigger weak spots when it comes to living a healthy live so sadly I have plenty of options here... It might be muesli, actually.
