Bouchard Delivers OT Dagger For Phantoms

MOSCOW - Although this European Conference match-up required extra time, it turned out to not need much extra, as Asher Reinhart @rjfryman intercepted a pass from Duncan Idaho @OrbitingDeath in the defensive zone, turning it into a counter-rush with a breakout pass to Baby Bob @Baby Boomer, with Robert Bouchard @Gaikoku-hito finishing the play and the game with the game-winning goal, giving the Prague Phantoms a thrilling 3-2 overtime win over the Moscow Menace.

While Reinhart started the scoring with his power play goal in the first period, his defensive play in overtime turned out to be his biggest play of the night. Both Reinhart and Bouchard finished with a goal and an assist on the night, giving them the first and second stars of the game, respectively. However, it was Prague goaltender David Davis @Josh that arguably shined the brightest, turning away 42 of 44 Moscow shots for a save percentage of .955 in a spectacular performance that completely negated the Menace’s shot advantage of 44-31 against the Phantoms, who are absolutely surging up the European Conference standings right now.

It was another frustrating result for Papa Emeritus @Beketov and the two-time defending European Conference champion Moscow Menace, who saw another opportunity to gain ground in a tight European Conference slip away. Despite arguably outplaying the Phantoms, Moscow didn’t get any production from top performers like Duncan Idaho and Paul Atreides @Mr_Hatter and despite earning a point against the second place Phantoms, it has to feel like more of a disappointment than a small victory, especially with their precarious hold on the final playoff spot in the conference over the Malmo Nighthawks.

CHI-G’s Otherworldly Performance Wasted In Loss To Stars

LOS ANGELES - Despite a statline that very likely will go down as the single most impressive performance of the season, the Chicago Phoenix took a 3-1 loss against the Los Angeles Stars in a game that has the VHL community absolutely buzzing.

Despite the loss, Chicago’s starting netminder, CHI-G, had a performance that can perhaps best be summed up as “otherworldly.” Despite being outshot 96-21 by Los Angeles, CHI-G stopped an absolutely insane 93 of them, good for a .969 save percentage, keeping the Phoenix in a game that they absolutely had no business being in. However, they are 2-30-0 for a reason, and other than a goal by Sunrise van de Schubbeku @Thunfish, Chicago had nothing to support the superhuman performance of their goaltender.

Despite it being quite an unconventional victory, Los Angeles certainly won’t complain. The win put them at 25-7-0, their eighth straight victory, maintaining their gap of four points behind the first place Vancouver Wolves. Tui Sova @v.2 recorded a goal and an assist, the only multi-point player of the game. Vick Fairchild’s @GreenGato 25th goal of the season turned out to be the game-winner after van de Schubbeku pulled Chicago within one goal late in the first period, with Sova regaining the two-goal lead early in the second period. Trent Gibson @Caboose30 picked up his fifth win of the season, stopping 20 of the 21 shots he faced.

Los Angeles is traveling to Poland to take on the Warsaw Predators tonight, with Chicago taking a flight across the United States to Washington D.C. to take on the D.C. Dragons.
