Although in Season 43 the attention once again turned to the first ballot, it seemed that we would see another two defencemen in the Hall of Fame but it wasn't meant to be – instead today's Hall of Fame induction features another, no less interesting storyline of loyalty, dedication, and rivalry. One of the inductees was an absolute no-brainer. Conner Low came to the VHL to win and that he did. He won in the VHLM, then he moved up to the VHL a won a record 5 Sterling Labatte Trophies. Who knows how many more he could have won if he hadn't moved up front for his final two seasons, but the move to forward arguably only strengthened his already rock-solid Hall of Fame career. His career totals for a 7-season career, including 5 as a defenceman, are superb and he spent his entire career with the New York Americans, captaining the team for 5 of 7 seasons of one of the greatest teams the VHL has ever seen, which won 4 Victory and 2 Continental Cups. Conner Low and the New York Americans were an irrepressible, unbreakable, and mutually beneficial relationship. What Low was to New York, Brennan McQueen was to Riga. Much like Low, McQueen had his number retired almost immediately after retiring after a 7-season career in which he set a record: the longest-serving captain in VHL history (all 7 seasons with the Reign). The offensive totals might throw some off but McQueen was one of the greatest two-way forwards in VHL history and probably the most hard-hitting player ever. Had he made the move to the VHL a season earlier, it is very likely that McQueen would be first, not fourth in all-time hits. That is no blemish on an excellent record though, which included leading Riga during the incredible Season 40 cup-winning run.
