Probably gave everyone a scare that I'd gone inactive again but I have had a super hectic week and a half or so which has meant I've barely had a minute to breathe, let alone think about VHL and so it did fall to the wayside a bit, and annoyingly I have missed out on a week's TPE because of it, but this should be a one time thing. So in the real world I finished up my 4th year of university and so am one (annoyingly long) thesis away from a finished MSc which is pretty crazy to think about. I had a couple days to celebrate with friends and say goodbye to loads of people for the last time ever (weird feeling), then pretty much straight away had to prepare for an interview I had yesterday with a biiiiiiiiiiiig company that was insanely intimidating and so my schedule is a bit more open again and things should be back to normal.

I hope I didn't miss much in the previous week or so. I know offseason has obviously finished, and I assume Arvid is playing in the VHL? I'll take the time to look that up now. If he is, I hope he's doing good as a rookie in a big league, if he's not, I'll be in the VHLM and hopefully dominating. I can't wait to solve the mystery I've created and find out.

With me entering the VHL Draft for the second time as an active member (yikes that's disappointing given my player count), I thought it'd be interesting to think back a little bit to the last time this happened, many moons ago back in S48. 13 seasons ago, my player was Dmitri Dadonov, another goaltender, and I was taken 6th overall by the Quebec City Meute. That draft had some great players in it, notable names included Black Velvet, Unassisted and Tyson Kohler, and I was honoured to be taken where I was. The Meute were building a great future and I was very excited to be a part of their team, although it only lasted a single season before I made my ill-fated expedition into VHL GMing with the Helsinki Titans and left the team. I often wonder how different things might have been if I had stayed with the team and not opted to enter into a role that was doomed to fail with my schedule at the time. Regardless, there are many similarities with this time around and that previous venture. Once again, my player is a goaltender and once again I'm towards the upper end of TPE in the class. This time however, it does feel nice to know there is a lower weight of expectation. The majority of people aren't expecting big things from this player, so the opportunity to prove them wrong and go some way to undo my terrible reputation as a builder is exciting, and something I'm really looking forward to sinking my teeth into.

We thought you could all use a few days off...

But seriously, our apologies. The issue stemmed from our move to self-hosted where the forum was still attempting (and failing) to save certain resources on IPB's cloud server. We had to get support to fix us up. We still have some cleaning up to do with broken images and such which we will get to.

As an apology for the missed days, everyone gets one free week to claim anytime you like within the month of June.

    Thank you for your patience!

    *Preparing for the draft*

Hi, it's me again with the S61 draft related article. After all, I still need to use doubles which I won in the lottery and as a Riga GM I have nothing else to write about. And looks like other GM's are interested in this draft as well - @DollarAndADream with his draft update, @Banackock with his own version of VHLSC. Good to see such active general managers here.

And good to see these kind of drafts. I don't even remember when we had 11 players with 100+ TPE even before the draft started. Perhaps in VHL's early days. Let's see this TOP 11 (as of 5/27):

    D - Samuel Gate - 214 TPE @street
    LW - Matt Thompson - 189 TPE @Beketov
    C - Podrick Cast - 186 TPE @Victor
    RW - Edwin Preencarnation - 146 TPE @Tagger
    G - Arvid Aamo - 140 TPE @Daniel
    D - Robert Malenko - 130 TPE @pennypenny
    G - Roger Sterling - 124 TPE @Will
    RW - Sergei Kovalev - 120 TPE @Laflamme
    LW - Marvin Harding - 120 TPE @.sniffuM
    C - Mikhail Vega - 114 TPE @iRockstar
    D - Jesper Stromberg - 100 TPE @Tim

As we can see, defense is a bit more stacked than other positions. Gate is the first in TPE and other two are solid too. We also need to mention that the best first-gen player plays in defence (Malenko). Another honorable mentions goes to Alvaro Jokinen (93 TPE) and Lev Bronstein (64 TPE), both of them could become a nice second round steals. It's a shame than Jacob Smith (61 TPE) is likely stopping with updating because @jacobaa19 player was another candidate of being a steal. Now he may drop to a third round. Also, @Ahma is kinda wildcard member as his only destination is Davos. We may really see this player drop to a low round just to be drafted by the Dynamo. Btw, who still doesn't know: @troy = @stevo. Just saying.

What about other positions? Not a lot talking there. Left wing has only aforementioned Harding and Thompson. It's unfortunate that Ryan Skinner (64 TPE) last update was at the beginning of May as he was another option for a second round steal, just like Jacob Smith. Perhaps @rampagemaster could find a motivation to give it another shot.

Right wing. Outside of our two best RW leaders, we have Wolf Edmunds (38 TPE) and Jordon Tonn (45 TPE) with some potential left. @MexicanCow even posted twice after his update (one of them in the achievement tracker thread), @Wolf Edmunds didn't update his player since April 30th but still pops in. I won't write them of yet, but now Tonn is the third best RW in this draft class and maybe he will become that steal of the draft.

Center. Nothing...The most interesting question here is what's up with Mikka Pajari? (48 TPE now, but should have more). Is @Devise done? Or he is tanking his player's draft stock on a purpose? I didn't see he retired this player so he may become a diamond in the rough if Devise would at least claim a welfare for this player.

Goalies. Similar to a center position, albeit Greg Santos (53 TPE) is still making moves so maybe @Barracuda could also see some spotlight in the draft ceremony. Another one was Victor Ball (38 TPE), but looks like @jcfbey01 isn't really interested in this league anymore. Sad.

My article is done. Thanks for reading it.

    That's it and I'm out.

    12 TPE goes to Kurtutecis.

Do you think you can stay active for all 8 seasons? You're an SHL guy so you probably should do 2 PT's in a week to make good players in both places.
Some secret info - Arvid Aamo is in the Reign's GM shortlist. Dadonov's last team was actually Riga. Could this be a destiny for Aamo to be the Reign's franchise goalie?
Your comments on Oslo GM change?
    Do you like the VHLM?
Do this league needs some changes?

After the rather unfortunate circumstances in which his season began, with an infuriatingly long stretch as the team's backup for a reason that still remains a mystery to all, the chance provided to rookie goaltender Arvid Aamo of the Oslo Storm to show what he can do has been an opportunity that he has grasped with both hands. In the 39 games that he has started for the Storm in his run in net so far, Aamo has demonstrated his strong level talent by ranking in the top 3 league wide in all major goalie statistics, with the second best save percentage and a top 3 wins ranking despite  having nearly 30 less starts than the majority of his competitors. Aamo has been a big part of the strong run of form we've seen from the team of late and it's undeniable that he's really carried his weight in helping the team do as well as it has. Now that his faith and effort  has been rewarded with the chance to really play to his strengths and show exactly what he can do as a starting goaltender, it seems like the only was is up for Arvid Aamo, and the young Norwegian will be hopeful that his good run of form is something that will have caught the eyes of VHL GMs who could be looking at him as a potential franchise goaltender of the future come draft day.

Thx so much Daniel, thats pretty sweet. Funny thing is I'm usually rockin a beard and I actually have one of my front chicklets knocked out from a stick in the face!
Will I ever get this good coin mine on a phone?! Doubt it.
Your back ground has a nice colour to it with its darkish brown shade and aged look.
The light flare at the top is very well done as it appears to be authentic looking and reflects in the right places.
Really cool using a touch of color into the SIG on his face and I like the amount of saturation you've used.
Great placement of the large font onto the white part if his jersey so it contrasts and stands out clearly. The angle of it is nice as well.
The smaller top font is a little blended in but you can still see it.
Like very much how you have him appearing to be in between the BG and fore ground. Very cool.
The cloud effect at the bottom of the SIG was a nice touch.
    This deserves a 6/6.
