I think we'd have to base the award on hits, +/-, and overall goals allowed/shots allowed, penalty kill minutes and PK % (but I think it would be an easy award to decide most seasons)

We had this at one time and am not sure why we stopped, but it's not a bad idea to bring back.

I think you could mitigate this somewhat with signing bonuses (which I've harped on for a long time). So any bad team could use the previous season's cap space on pitching signing bonuses to free agents.

Seems pointless when you could just take a break in between careers or collect welfare for a season IMO
