rjfryman reacted to Tagger in S66 Player Update Analysis [1/2]
It's probably something that I can pretty easily implement into my weekly rankings, I'll see if I can add it in for next week's.

rjfryman reacted to Renomitsu in GM 220: Las Vegas Aces vs. Ottawa Lynx
Surprised the Lynx can still keep it close with Las Vegas after selling off everyone, but good for them. Saskatoon have our work cut out for us if we wanna make the playoffs, that's for sure.

rjfryman reacted to DMaximus in S66 Player Update Analysis [1/2]
One of the most important factors when drafting a player is to determine their future growth and potential long-term contribution to a franchise. Most rookies are not going to make an immediate impact to a team, but if you draft the right players, they could be the reason your franchise is hoisting the cup high above their heads in a couple of seasons.
I wanted to add to the S66 draft class evaluation by looking at recent TPE earning amongst all S66 prospects. I separated players into groups based on when they were last updated. All rankings are taken from the VHL Scouting Center S66 Live Draft Ranking Thread on the morning of April 1.
The Bad
Completely AWOL - Do Not Draft!! - These players have not updated since the week of March 3rd. There should be no expectation that these players will return to the league. If you draft this player, expect they will never see the ice on your team.

Missed entire scouting camp - These players have not updated in at least the previous two weeks (last update weeks of Mar 10 or Mar 17). When a player chooses to miss the entire scouting camp, it usually indicates they are looking into other lines of work. Some players have ambitions outside of professional hockey. It appears these players are pursuing those other ambitions and leaving their hockey dreams behind. Some may choose to return to hockey after exploring life outside of hockey and realizing hockey is their life.

Skipped a pre-draft workout – these players did not update the week of Mar 31 (last updated week of Mar 24.) Some players choose to skip the public pre-draft workout for various reasons. Most of the time, it indicates future trouble for the player. GMs may want to have a conversation with the players to get additional insight into where the head of the player is at.

The Good
58 players updated the week of Mar 31.
33 of those 58 players updated for 10 or more TPE. These players should be considered as safe as a pick as any player can be. I expect these players to be contributors to VHL teams for seasons to come.

I wanted to draw special attention to some of the hidden gems. These are new players that have shown they want to put forth the hard work required to become a VHL player. (They all rank below 50 but added more than 10 TPE the week of Mar 31). GMs may want to remember these players during the later rounds in the draft.

I want to thank @Tagger and the rest of the VHL Scouting Center for their hard work keeping all the live draft rankings up to date. If I could make one suggestion, it would be helpful to add additional columns to the live draft rankings that give the week the player last updated and the amount of TPE they added that week. I understand this may not be feasible because of the increased workload on the scouting center and the information is tracked in the live ranking thread but it would be helpful information to see on the main ranking table.

rjfryman reacted to Enorama in Make The Draft Great Again
I'm going to start off by telling you a little story for those of you who weren't around or weren't paying attention for the last draft (S65). Generally speaking, the draft is run live, with GMs needing to react to other picks being made in real time and there generally being a shitshow around scheduling when to hold it, a bit of chaos when it comes to tracking who's been picked, and some hectic live trades. In S65, for reasons unknown (I would just assume, or hope, scheduling conflicts) the draft was held earlier, I assume over the course of several days, in secret. The thing is, it wasn't actually so secret, because when you see a team trading up in the 2nd round three days before the draft, you have to assume they know who's available at that specific pick.
I get that this made life easier on the GMs, but it was just. so. boring. The craziness that is draft day is supposed to be part of the fun around being a GM, and with drafts being run through the portal now, it should be much easier to track who's been picked. Let these draftees have the same fun that I had on my draft day, where there was all sorts of crazy speculation and rumors before my name ever got called.
Bring back the true live draft.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

Well, I do believe it was more or less a "Thanks, HHH has received too many awards already 1st Star" so, I am happy, but this wouldn't happen without playing with HHH on the same line. So, I guess - huge thanks to @Beaviss !

Another good game down the stretch for Julius Freeman. Maybe he is getting ready for the draft and trying to raise his stock.

rjfryman got a reaction from FrostBeard in GM 222: Philadelphia Reapers vs. Yukon Rush
@FrostBeard how does it feel stealing the first star from your teammate in this great win against Philly?
@Beaviss Do you feel like 4 points in a win against Philly is a bit low for a player of your caliber?

rjfryman reacted to Quik in S65 Theme Week Point Task
Hello again Everybody!
First, I'll address quikly what some of you may already be noticing, that this topic was posted 2 days ago: I'm low on free time, so posting it early made it easier on me.
Now that that's out of the way, let's talk about what has become a tradition these past few seasons: Theme Week. I make an announcement, you guys get uncapped TPE, everyone is happy. It's been a good arrangement, and everyone has come to anticipate the seasonal announcement of what the theme is that they will be doing their hard earned work. I announce, you get TPE. Simple formula, yes? Well, I thought I'd do it a little different this season. But, then I wondered, why mess with a good thing? Because it's fun to screw with people? I mean, yeah, that'd be part of it. But then any changes I do make would cause more work for @Beketov and myself, and we don't want that, so theme week will go as usual!
With that in mind, this season's theme week will be based on the Season 66 Draft! Any task submitted that pertains to the upcoming draft, whether it is individual players, team needs, the draft on a whole, whatever you like; so long as it meets the minimum requirements of the corresponding Point Task (500 words for an MS, 200 words for a VHL.com article, 10 minutes for a full podcast, etc.).
Payouts for this season's theme week are as follows:
Now, assuming you're reading this on Monday, and not being a sly fox who can see it early, go forth and submit your themed PT to claim that beautiful Uncapped TPE!

rjfryman got a reaction from Gustav in Team Asia WCJ Roster Break Down
Team Asia
Forwards
1st Line:
LW - Dimitri Volosenkov C - Viktor Kozlov RW - Matthew Kai
Dimitri Volosenkov has had a great season so far with Halifax after being drafted 17th overall and has rewarded them with 65 points in 54 games. He is a great teammate who can score, pass, and help keep the opposing team in check with his monster checks. All in all, I expect good things from him in this WCJ.
Viktor Kozlov has spent this season in the VHLM with the Houston Bulls. Viktor has played well on that team amassing 51 points in 54 games. Viktor is a great two way forward who plays good defense keeping other teams away from his goalie by playing zone and checking those who come to close. He is a great teammate preferring to pass than shooting allowing his teammates to shine.
Matthew Kai is the sniper that rounds out this line. On loan from his VHLM team, Matthew will put defenders on tilt with his quik release and overall excellent offensive play. Being a part of the Minnesota Storm, Matthew he has 59 points in 54 games. He has more assists than goals, but that is mostly because his teammates in Minnesota are equally talented.
2nd Line:
LW - Chico Smeb C - Chance Matthews RW - Kyle Sabertooth
Chico Smeb is another player to hail from the Minnesota Storm, and even though his stat line this year is not as stellar as his fellow storms, his potential for future years, He has an excellent pass and prides himself on always giving the puck to his teammates in ways that allow them to shine.
Chance Matthews is a returning player who is currently a journeyman who is now without a team. What he brings to the team though are his passing ability and puck handling skills. He should be able to keep the puck from the other side and pass to his teammates when they are ready to score.
Kyle Sabertooth is an excellent addition to this line. He comes from the Las Vegas Aces scoring 57 points in 54 games. Kyle is the sniper who will benefit from the extraordinary abilities of Chico and Change. I expect him to score on this line and show why he is a great player with Vegas.
3rd Line
LW - Bert Meyers C - Raphael Nazarians RW - Valeri Morozov
Bert Meyers is a great all-around forward to help solidify the third line of team Asia. He will probably play some time on the penalty kill because he is an excellent defensive forward. He has skill on the faceoff which will serve him well against some of the opposing teams. Bert will be an excellent addition to this team and the special teams.
Raphael Nazarians is a pure sniper who is still young in his career in the VHL. He will probably have another year in the VHLM, but he is again putting up good numbers of 55 points in 54 games, looking forward to seeing his growth in a couple of years. He can be one of the best snipers next year in the VHLM, and will probably score a couple in this tournament.
Valeri Morozov is another pure sniper on this line that will probably surprise some teams when they put their third lines to match. Valeri has a tremendous defensive mindset that allows him to exploit other teams defense with his scoring ability.
Defense
1st Pairing:
LD - Evgeni Komarov RD - Bald Guy
Evgeni Komarov is a strong leader on this team. He hails from the Moscow Menace providing veteran leadership on this young team Asia. Evgeni is a steady defensive defenseman who has great awareness as well as checking ability to put that awareness to use in putting his opponents into the boards. Evgeni will keep Asia in most games with his ability to block shots and hit other players.
Bald Guy is almost the perfect partner to Evgeni, He is a great offensive defenseman, who excels at bringing up the puck and shooting a wicked slapshot at other goalies. He is a born leader who will keep his team alive even in the direst situations.
2nd Pairing:
LD - Edward Vigneault RD - James Lombardi
Edward Vigneault a young defenseman who can grow with team Asia for a couple more years. He is rounding out to be a great puck moving defenseman, who in a few years when he works on his shooting ability will become a great offensive defenseman.
James Lombardi is a defenseman who will play the body when he can. He has a strong shot, and even though he has been around for a while, he still has room to grow. He will help some of the younger defensemen with his wisdom and playing years.
3rd Pairing:
LD - Cody Parkey RD - Srraxxarrakex II
Cody Parkey is a tremendous passing defenseman that is still young in this league. He has been able to grow with the Saskatoon Wild, and will probably become a staunch defender in the coming years. Cody already has 14 assists this season. He looks like he will grow fast since it seems like he is trying hard to train every week.
Srraxxarrakex II is a defenseman who has a strong shot. He plays defense well and will eventually be a steady defender. He has excellent upside with a great chance and in the next seasons will grow into a defender who can lead team Asia to a possible WCJ win.
Starting Goalie:
Tyler Smith
Tyler Smith is one of the backups for HC Davos Dynamo. He played strong for Halifax a couple of seasons ago, but he still might help team Asia do well this WCJ. Tyler has been inactive lately, but he might even be able to do some work for team Asia.
Backup Goalie:
Divaani Sohva
Divaani Sohva is the back up for the Minnesota Storm and will help Team Asia stay alive in this competitive World Cup Juniors. He has been posting a 0.881 save percentage when he is playing with Minnesota this season.

rjfryman got a reaction from Sharkstrong in Lottery - MARCH
So I don't know if this is a good place to post this but If I were to remake the lottery here is how I would do it.
Step 1:
Per my suggestion along with other suggestions in https://vhlforum.com/topic/60309-affiliate-tpe-opportunity/
Make game threads a more of a Twitter-like environment like the SBA does with the ability to claim 1-2 TPE for some amount of posts in a given week. To review this its similar to how we review the reviewers, or in a weekly thread that everyone posts in.
Step 2:
That claim of TPE gets you one ticket for the week and 1 ticket for the month.
Step 3:
For weekly lottery, you simply pick 2 random people from the above tickets 1 VHL and 1 VHLM
Step 4:
At the end of the month, you do the same for but with people having up to 4-5 tickets depending on the number of weeks in the month.
Why I think this might work:
Gives people more reason to talk in game threads even in not theirs because you can talk in other peoples game chats without it being considered spam by some. Gives people more reason to not hate on Lottery since everyone who talks the min number of times a chance to win if they enter. You can be explicit in rules of winning If Someone wins the first week of the month they cannot win any other weeks in the same month If Someone wins a prize in a monthly contest they cannot win a second prize in the same contest.
Why it might not work:
Some people will not want to compile a list of their game chat posts in a second thread either a personal or weekly thread. A Larger barrier of entry for new people who might not realize the ability to enter the contest since its buried in other threads. Some people like more entries based on their participation. Some people don't want to keep up with every game thread and feel like the spamming of game threads makes them read more.
Edit Notes:
Something came to mind. If this were to be enacted it might have an effect to get some people more involved in the first few games of the week to get their entry but also might slow down near the end of the week due to some people only commenting to get an entry. But this might also lift some peoples inhibition to post on more game threads since they won't have to worry about it being considered spamming. I don't know the break down of the commentators and what they would fall into and if that would be a net increase or decrease in game posts.
I think at the end of the day the reasons why this (the current lotto) was chosen to increase people's desire to look and comment on game chats. I think my solution might help but I still consider myself to be new here so I would have to defer people who have more experience with the VHL.

rjfryman reacted to efiug in Oh Crystal Ball (VHLM Expansion)
If I was given the control to slap a VHLM team anywhere I can't think of a better place than Nashville. I may be sorta biased because it's where I live but I have always felt like southern markets are ignored. For the name I've had the idea of the Nashville Dreadnoughts, as dreadnought guitars are the most popular acoustic guitar type and Nashville is the music city. The allows us to have a cool logo of a guitar and also maybe a ship as well (although Nashville isn't connected to any oceans). For a colour scheme I love how the old Philadelphia/Vancouver Blazers looked with their Yellow and Orange thing they had going on. Besides Nashville I would love to see a team in Atlanta, because it is another southern team and I loved the whole thing the Thrashers had going on, but besides another southern team another good place would be Quebec City or Montreal for an eastern Canada sorta thing. Maybe a West Coast team too, like Portland or San Diego as previously mentioned.
