    7. The Bears signed THE @BOOM (Gunnar Odinsson). How much noise was made when this happened? Thoughts?
The city of Seattle had more riots than Vancouver in 2011.

    8. @FrostBeard asked out of HSK and Seattle was fortunate to trade for him. What were your thoughts?
Frostbeard is an awesome member.  I can't wait till his player joins the team next season.

    9. Seattle drafted the one and ONLY HULK HOGAN 2.0. @Hogan Will this Hulk Hogan be better than the first? Why or why not?
Odds would say not.  The Og Hulk hogan had too good of a career.

    10. The team also selected AGM @Beaviss. Will he live up to the glory and hype??
Always nice to have the agm's player on the team. I like it.

    11. @SlapshotDragon asked the team out on a team bonding day. What did you guys end up doing?
Eating so much food.  We had Tepeniaki

    12. @oilmandan has some weird superstitions.. even for a goalie... what are they?
he only brushes his upper set of teeth on game days.

    13. @BarzalGoat Finish the sentence.. Sven Eightnine is so committed to Seattle and the blue line, he.....   ????

Nice one OMD. I like the Seattle BG, you did logo swaps and the double render use is neat. I also like the use of a tagline(making the VHL his bitch) occasionally, so that was a nice touch. I might have used a different font, but that's entirely a personal choice. Keep it up. 8/10.

I always find it crazy how fast days go by. My last day of my shift was last Tuesday and here I find myself, 6 days later, wondering where all that time went. Today is my last day off and I'm gonna spend it doing absolutely nothing. Lounging, gaming and preparing for work the next day. The hype is still good for my new player Mikhail Kovalchuk who has been doing very well with their new team in the VHLM. I'm glad I'm enjoying that has Isabella didn't ever quite live up to my expectations - probably, like so many others, they're too high. With that being said, hehe, let's blab.

Bears have started well for a team that contended S68-79, did a significant rebuild in S80 and now are fighting for a playoff spot. The locker room is incredible. I love to see this strong activity restored by good members. Just Lose leads the way with 23 points which is insane, but if you look at the whole team everyone is doing pretty damn good. Venus is right behind him with 20, new guys @Jubis and @BOOM have not only been good adds to the LR, but clearly to the team with 17 and 15 points through 10..  @Jtv123 has 69 shots currently so you know he's happy.. and both our younger future stars are also playing their part on a strong rebuilding team @dasboot @SlapshotDragon  6 players above a PPG, our rookie dman ( @BarzalGoat)  is one of them and our young goalie is probably playing above average and is lights out for us in big games. The future has very good potential if we can continue this trend (and earning). @youloser1337 @oilmandan Writing at this time has come a little easier for me. I'm excited about my new player Mikhail Kovalchuk. I'm excited for VHLM sims to see how he continues to do! I hope this year for Christmas, the blue team decides to go with helping causes that effect British Columbia. Between the crazy droughts, fires and now massive rains and flooding... it's insane and sad to watch all the videos. The VHL has always been decent at picking causes and the Christmas Charity events we hold are amazing and the prizes are fun and 100% what Christmas should be about... It's one of the best times on the league... I also encourage them to reach out to other leagues and see if they too will hop in on the fun to raise money for this amazing cause as it's caused so much pain for so many! @Beketov @bigAL @Josh
Thanks and I hope everyone has a good week..

    @Laine

Welcome to the first in what could be an ongoing series where we will look at any ‘top 10’ ranking from around the VHL. In today’s article we’ll be looking at the current top 10 VHL prospects! While you’re here feel free to check out any of the other recent VSN Articles!

    10. Sven Eightnine @BarzalGoat

The Seattle Bears 15th overall pick in the S80 VHL draft has come a long way since the draft and has been a productive part of the Bratislava Watchmen this season. After joining the VHLM in S78 Eightnine would go onto win a Founder’s Cup in their first season with Yukon and after being selected by Mississauga would find their way to the finals yet again, While in the VHLM they put up 25 goals, and 62 assists for 87 points in 91 games across 2 seasons. During their time in the VHLE Eightnine has continued their productive pace as they have 17 goals, and 23 assists for 40 points in 40 games for Bratislava. Eightnine will likely make their VHL debut either next season, or the season after should they elect to stay in the VHLE.

    9. Logain Ablar @Kelsier

After being selected 12th overall in the S80 draft by London, Ablar has taken to the ice for Bratislava of the VHLE this season and will be looking to continue their success from last season which saw them winning the Founder’s cup with Miami in the VHLM last season. While in the VHLM Ablar was a significant part of a Minnesota roster prior to being traded to Miami and in 74 VHLM games had 43 goals, and 39 assists for 82 points. Ablar proved themselves on Miami’s way to a Founder’s Cup as they had 13 points in 19 games. Similar to Eightnine, Ablar will make their VHL debut either next season, or the season after should they elect to stay in the VHLE.

    8. Alessandro Nano @leafsman

Nano was selected 8th overall in the S80 VHL draft by Helsinki and has spent the current season with Vastras of the VHLE. While in the VHLE Nano has performed well scoring 6 goals, and 26 assists for 32 points in 43 games, this pace is significantly better than their previous play in the VHLM for Miami and Saskatoon as they only had 61 points in 90 games. This pass-first defensemen will likely look to make the jump to the VHL next season and should prove to be a solid piece on Helsinki’s blue line for many seasons to come.

    7. David Davis @Josh

Prague drafted their future franchise goaltender when they drafted Davis 7th overall in the S80 VHL draft. While in the VHLM Davis carried a Halifax team to the playoffs with a 31-28-9 record and a 0.901 SV% while having 1 or no defensemen in front of him for the entire season. Currently, Davis is between the posts for the Cologne Express of the VHLE where he has a 19-18-2 record with a 0.902 SV% and a 3.96 GAA. Davis will probably make the jump to the VHL next season and possibly step right into the starting role.

    6. Omi Aberg @osens

Aberg was the 12th overall selection in the S79 VHL draft by the Vancouver Wolves and will look to make their much awaited arrival next season after tearing up the VHLE with Stockholm this season. Currently, Aberg sits second in points with 70 and tied for second in assists with 47. During their time in the VHLM Aberg proved to be invaluable to the eventual Founder’s Cup champion Miami Marauders as they would score 25 points in 19 games during the Founder’s Cup run.

    5. Hari Singh Nalwa @Dil (ROM)

Yet another member of the S79 Founder’s Cup champion Miami Marauders, Nalwa would be selected 10th overall in the S80 VHL draft by the Vancouver Wolves. During their time in the VHLM Nalwa proved to be an assist machine as they had 73 assists in 79 games, during S79 they also cracked to 30 goal mark which is quite impressive for a puck moving defensemen. This season Nalwa has continued their play having 11 goals and 40 assists for 51 points in 44 games for Rome in the VHLE. Nalwa is set to make the jump to the VHL next season and will be a welcome sight in Vancouver as he will help bolster their blueline for some time to come.

    4. Baby Bob @Baby Boomer (ROM)

Bob has shown to be one of the most offensively dominant prospects this season as they currently lead the VHLE in goals with 34, they have also added 33 assists for 67 points which has them in fourth place overall. In the VHLM Bob was a part of 2 very different Mississauga Hounds teams, the one that finished last in S78, and the one that walked through the regular season in S79. During that time Bob had 62 goals and 110 assists for 172 points in 146 games. Bob was selected 9th overall by the Prague Phantoms in S79 and will be in the VHL next season.

    3. Saku Kotkakoivu @DollarAndADream

The Calgary Wranglers’ 3rd overall selection in the S80 VHL draft has the unique accolade of being the only player to play in the VHLE to be selected in the top 5 of the VHL, VHLE, and VHLM drafts, the only other player to be selected in the top 5 of all three drafts is AJ Williams who elected not to play in the VHLE. During their time in the VHLE, Kotkakoivu has been very productive scoring 57 points in 43 games played for a solid Vastras team. While in the VHLM Kotkakoivu scored 45 goals and 50 assists for 95 points in 90 games, primarily with the Mexico City Kings. Expect to see Kotkakoivu in a Wranglers uniform next season.

    2. Kyle Peace @Peace

Kyle Peace was selected with the 5th overall pick in the S80 VHL draft by the Toronto Legion. Since being drafted, Peace has improved steadily and is having a solid VHLE season for Vastras so far scoring 52 points in 43 games. The prior season Peace tore up the VHLM coming in 4th and 3rd for points and goals respectively with 129 points and 59 goals for the Saskatoon Wild. Peace is set to make their debut next season and without a doubt will prove to be Toronto’s next franchise player.

    1. Xavier Booberry @CowboyinAmerica

Lastly, the one everyone saw coming, Xavier Booberry. The Helsinki Titans used their first overall pick in the S80 VHL draft to select Booberry and if their VHLE stats are any indication Helsinki made the right choice as Booberry currently second among starting goalies in SV% (0.928), GAA (2.93), and is sixth in wins (13). While in the VHLM Booberry tore up the league and was one of the main reasons for San Diego making the playoffs, Booberry was rewarded handsomely for this as they took home the Mitch Higgins Award as the regular season MVP and was a nominee for the top goaltender award. Booberry will likely step in as Helsinki’s starting goalie next season and will look to continue their spectacular play.

Recently I had the chance to chat with the top prospect and ask them a couple questions, here’s how that went:

Me: First off, what did it mean to you to go first overall?

Booberry: It wasn’t necessarily something I was shooting for, but now that it’s happened it means a lot. There’s a whole lot of good players in this draft class, possibly even one of the best of all-time. For Helsinki to believe that I can be the best of the best long-term, it’s high expectations that I’m excited to live up to.

Me: How do you feel spending a season in the VHLE has benefited you?

Booberry: The opportunity to be in the VHLE is a key reason I entered the draft when I did, and I couldn’t be more excited to be there. Not only does it give me the opportunity to be teammates with some players that I wouldn’t have met otherwise, but the chance to be a trailblazer in something new is exciting. Plus, not gonna lie, I’m going to like having that season less of depreciation on the back end.

Me: What will it be like to make your long awaited VHL debut?

Booberry: It’ll be the start of a new era. Helsinki’s a franchise I’ve never played for before despite a long time in the VHL, so that’s exciting in itself. But the Titans as a whole are just starting to build to something big. It’s a step that Ori and others are already taking, but when I get in there, plus Nano, some others in my draft class and maybe even some S81 guys next season, it’s going to feel like the start of something huge. The Helsinki core is here, and we don’t plan on going anywhere.

Lastly, having to keep this list to just ten was extremely difficult, here are a few honourable mentions:
    Florida Man @zepheter
    Tony Adams @fonziGG
    Ryan Vidot @Enorama
    Zach Kisslinger II @Kisslinger
    Em Em Flex @oilmandan
    Miroslav Tsarov @PadStack

Playoff MVP Award "Skylar Rift Trophy"
In what was in incredible run for the Miami Marauders there were several standout players, all of the nominees for this award made a difference in each and every game they played and without them we could have had a completely different outcome. The nominees for the Skylar Rift Trophy are.

    Nominees:
     Em Em Flex @oilmandan
Em Em Flex backstopped the Marauders all the way to their 2nd Founder’s cup in 3 seasons. During this run Flex had a record of 12-6-0, a SV% of 0.905 (2nd among starting goalies), and a GAA of 2.73 (1st among starting goalies). During the run to the cup Flex also had 2 shutouts and 4 assists.

     Jlloyoid Blloyoiderson @Cxsquared
Blloyoiderson carried their offensive play from the regular season straight into the playoffs as they would lead the league in goals with 14, and add 14 assists for 28 points, tying them for the scoring lead. Blloyoiderson also carried their defensive play into the playoffs with 36 hits and 10 blocked shots in 18 games played.

    Hari Singh Nalwa @Dil
Hari Singh Nalwa was spectacular throughout the playoffs for Miami and would ultimately lead defensemen in points with 23, and finish the playoffs with 17 assists, good enough for a tie for second among all skaters. Nalwa also had their fair share of blocked shots during the playoffs with 20.

Top Goaltender Award "Benoit Devereux Trophy"
The Benoit Devereux Trophy is awarded each season to the goalie who stands on their head each game and always gives their team a chance to win, all of this season's nominees did that and more! This season’s nominees are:

    Nominees:
    Em Em Flex @oilmandan
Flex got consistently better as the season went on and towards the end of the season was unbeatable and was one of the main reasons for Miami’s surge up the standings as the season came to a close. Flex finished the season with a 48-17-7 record all while having a 0.901 SV% and 2.53 GAA while starting in all 72 games. This season Flex will be playing for Stockholm in the VHLE after being selected 31st overall in the VHLE draft. Flex was also drafted 11th overall in the S79 VHL draft by Seattle.

     Xavier Booberry @CowboyinAmerica
Xavier Booberry, one of our only nominees tonight who played for two different teams during the season as they were traded from Houston to San Diego 30 games into the season. While with Houston Booberry had a 0.905 SV% and a 3.15 GAA. Once they joined San Diego they were one of the driving forces behind San Diego getting into a playoff spot from last place in the VHLM as they would record a 24-12-4 record while having a 0.896 SV% and a 2.70 GAA. Booberry will likely be making the jump straight to the VHL this season as they were drafted 1st overall in the S80 VHL draft.

     Bastian Greiss @ThatsGreissy
Bastian Greiss pushed the Mexico City Kings along all of last season and his numbers are as you would expect as Greiss would record a 48-17-7 record while maintaining a SV% above 0.900 all season, finishing with a 0.901. Greiss’s GAA was solid as well at a 2.55. This coming season Greiss will likely fill the backup role in London behind Tater Tot as they were selected 12th overall in the S78 VHL draft and went undrafted in the VHLE draft.

    Malmo Nighthawks All-Time Award Winners

The Malmo Nighthawks have had some very high highs and fairly low lows since joining the VHL in S66. In spite of their inconsistent success, Malmo players have won a large amount of VHL awards over the years. With the Nighthawks clinching their second ever Victory Cup with the best record in the VHL for S79 and the surprising run of awards garnered by Malmo’s players last season, I would like to present a rundown of the awards the franchise has won and the team’s most decorated players.

    Team Awards:
As is fair to a team that is only in its 14th season in the league, Malmo’s list of Team Awards earned is short but unfortunately, much shorter than some of their contemporaries. However, the Nighthawks look poised for some sustained success under the guidance of GM @hylands who, with much skill and some luck, has assembled an offensive juggernaut just reaching its prime.

Terence Fong Trophy (European Conference Finalists – Playoffs)
    2x – S68, S75

Victory Cup (Best Regular Season Record)
    1x – S68

    Continental Cup (VHL Champions)
    1x – S75

    Individual Awards:
One player is responsible for winning most of these awards and anyone around the VHL the past 10-12 seasons know who that is. Defenseman Condor Adrienne was inducted into the VHL Hall of Fame immediately after a brilliant and enviable career which culminated in and ended with Malmo’s first Continental Cup in S75. He played his entire career for the Nighthawks and is the franchise leader in most categories.

Jake Wylde Trophy (Top Defensive Defenseman)
    5x – S66 (Tie) (Basaraba Moose @Toasty), S70, S73, S74 (Tie) (Condor Adrienne @OrbitingDeath ), S78 (Randy Marsh @oilmandan)
The award most won by Nighthawks over the years, the Jake Wylde Trophy has been awarded to three different defensemen on five different occasions. The first Nighthawk to ever win an award was Canadian rookie Basaraba Moose who showed poise on an expansion team with an even plus/minus and 174 shot blocks (2nd in the league). He shared it with Seattle’s Samuel Gate @scoop. Then came the dominance of Condor Adrienne which will be a common theme in this article. Adrienne won the Wylde Trophy three times (the only player to have won three) in five seasons being Top-6 in shot blocks twice and Top-4 in penalty minutes three times. Then S78, Randy Marsh capped off a rambunctious career by leading the league in penalty minutes, being 4th in hits, posting a +19 and 162 shot blocks for a surprise win.

Alexander Valiq Trophy (Top Offensive Defenseman)
    3x – S72, S74, S75 (Condor Adrienne @OrbitingDeath )
In the three years that saw Adrienne win the Valiq Trophy as the league’s top offensive d-man (a feat no one has matched), he led the league in points once, assists once, was third in assists the other two seasons, and led the league in power play goals once. He led VHL blueliners in points all three seasons and goals twice and was Top-10 in many other categories.

    Credit: @DollarAndADream

    Sterling Labatte Trophy (Top Defenseman)
    3x – S72, S74, S75 (Condor Adrienne @OrbitingDeath )
In S72, Condor Adrienne led the league in points, power play goals and shot blocks. In S74 Malmo’s future HOFer became the first defenseman to win the Wylde, Valiq, and Labatte in the same season. In S75, he led the VHL in assists and all defensemen in points.

    Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy (Top Rookie)
    1x – S73 (Chris Hylands @hylands)
Malmo’s 14th overall pick in the S72 draft set the VHL on fire in his first season scoring 34 goals (second among rookies), 42 assists (tied for second among rookies) to lead all rookies with 76 points, a total he would never stoop below the rest of his career. He was 9th in the league in minutes played and shots while leading the VHL with six game-tying goals.

Dustin Funk Trophy (Most Improved Player)
    2x – S73 (Ray Sheilds @Zetterberg), S78 (Brendan Telker @Telkster)
Two Nighthawks have been chosen as the VHL’s Most Improved Player both in their sophomore season. First, Ray Sheilds posted a 66-point increase with 85 points with Malmo after a 19-point rookie season with Seattle. Then most recently, S77 5th overall selection Brendan Telker improved on his 50-point rookie season with 90 points in S78.

Brett Slobodzian Trophy (Most Outstanding Player)
    2x – S68 (Matt Thompson @Beketov), S72 (Condor Adrienne @OrbitingDeath )
Malmo has been fortunate to have two players within a span of five seasons win the Slobodzian and Szatkowski Trophies. In his swansong season, Matt Thompson came to Malmo to chase a championship. While that dream didn’t come true, one of his finest seasons did as he won the Most Outstanding Player by his peers with the most votes in VHL history at the time. He led the league in goals and points (by a wide margin) and plus/minus and shooting percentage. In S72, Adrienne’s legend began to grow as he earned a few more votes than Thompson had while leading the VHL in scoring near the end of the dead-puck era.

    Mike Szatkowski Trophy (Points Leader)
    2x – S68 (Matt Thompson @Beketov), S72 (Condor Adrienne @OrbitingDeath )
Matt Thompson had his second best season in his last year as he posted 60 goals and 122 points which led the VHL by 10 (goals) and 17 (points). Then in S72, Adrienne became only the second defenseman ever to lead the VHL in scoring as he was the only player to reach 100 points including an astounding 35 goals on a last-place team!

Scotty Campbell Trophy (Most Valuable Player)
    1x – S68 (Matt Thompson @Beketov)
It was pretty much assured that after a 60-goal campaign (which was 27 more goals than his next closest teammate) that saw him dominate all areas of the ice and lead Malmo to the playoffs that Thompson would earn the first MVP trophy of his career.

    Alexander Beketov Trophy (Assists Leader)
    1x – S75 (Condor Adrienne @OrbitingDeath )
In his final season, Condor Adrienne became the first Nighthawk to win the Beketov Trophy when he narrowly led the league with 70 assists after being in the Top-8 in assists the previous three seasons. It was his second straight season with 70 or more assists (82 in S74).

    Kevin Brooks Trophy (Goals Leader)
    1x – S68 (Matt Thompson @Beketov)
Nowadays, reaching the 60-goal plateau almost guarantees you the Kevin Brooks Trophy as the league’s top sniper. Thompson hit the mark for the second time in his career earning him his third Brooks Trophy on his way to becoming only the seventh VHL player to reach 400+ career goals.

    Daisuke Kanou Trophy (Playoff MVP)
    1x – S75 (Chris Hylands @hylands)
After coming so close with Matt Thompson in S68, Adrienne and the Nighthawks finally reached the pinnacle of the VHL becoming Continental Cup Champions in S75 defeating the D.C. Dragons in six games. Chris Hylands took flight tying for the playoff lead with 14 goals including a league leading four game-winners as he showcased his all-around brilliance leading the Nighthawks in ice time and his 27 points were one off the league lead.

David Knight Trophy (Top General Manager)
    1x – S68 (Chris Miller @Advantage)
Chris Miller won the Top GM award after Malmo’s best season to date. After only being in the league for two seasons, Miller’s astute drafting, trading and the signing of Matt Thompson, pushed the assembled veteran talent up front, rising defense core and hot second year goalie Michael Johnson @fonziGG, to the league’s best record and a trip to the Cup Finals.
