  1. Well I didn't expect to get drafted at all so the answer to that would be earlier i suppose. I've been out for the past season so it was a surprise to get a call from the GM letting me know I'd been drafted. I already turned the TV off after the first few rounds as I just wanted to see who the top picks were. Nows it's time to see where I play in the minors this year. I'm not really sure, I haven't kept up to date with any of the developments in the league. Me I hope, going with the 2nd to last pick there's really only one way to go and that's up. When I start banging in goals in the VHL then DC fans will look back on this draft as a franchise defining moment. I honestly have no idea, I need to breeze though some scouting reports to answer that question. See previous answer, it's too early to tell, a whole year of time means a lot can change between then and now. Valentino is probably the most likely, he's a great player from what little i've seen of him already in the training camp. He's got that natural swagger you see from the top players in the league and the leaders of championship teams.
  2. Theme week task Expansion in sim league is a sure-fire sign of success and with the announcement of two more VHL being added to the fold it’s a great sign of consistent growth. Let’s have a speculation on what kind of process happens when it’s decided that expansion will happen. Selection of GMs One of the most important parts of a new team is who’s in charge, there’s a variety of way that this choice can be made, you can look at VHLM GMs as they’ve plied their trades in the minor and shown they can be relied upon to handle all aspects of a team and are ready to step up to the big leagues. You can take a look back at older previous GMs that have stepped down in the past that might be ready for a return to management, or you can gift the place to an active up-and-comer that has shown the willingness to become a part of the managerial staff through either community interaction or aiding newer members. Team Identity The new GMs will be consulted on the branding for their prospective new teams, a location with hockey pedigree/attractive branding is usually a good start but there’s additionally the argument to break new ground and start a franchise in a new population center to spread the reach of the VHL. Important considerations will be the design of the logo, the colours and the mascot/team name. It should ideally be identifiable and unique in the league along with allowing the team to complement the branding with a catchy slogan and tagline to define the franchise. Expansion Draft Team’s need players and expansion teams don’t have the luxury of years of drafts picks, they need to fill out a roster in a single off-season. An expansion draft is the answer to that, in all likelihood the league will flip a coin to determine which of the two teams gets first pick in the expansion draft and the existing teams will get to protect a set number of players each, now it’s tough to say how many players the league management will allow to be protected. I would guess teams will get to protect around 5-7 players depending on how generous the league wants to be to the new teams. 5 would let the teams be immediately around a mid-level team with great depth but lacking some top-tier talent unless they snag a top free agent. More protections will but the expansion teams in lower down and they’ll be building before any success is likely to come. Draft Picks Apart from the number of protections the biggest question mark is how the new teams will be assigned draft picks in the first draft. Obviously the team that finished bottom this season would feel very hard done by if the top pick was taken away from them and given to an expansion team so it’s a interesting dilemma which the league will have to face as it’s in the league interest to have competitive expansion teams that can start to build a fanbase in their new homes. 515 words, claimed for theme week w/e 18/08

  4. Raleigh Ritchie made his big announcement over twitter, after whittling down his short list from 10 teams down to 3, basing his judgements from playing time, squad strength and championship potential he finally made the tough choice to join the Minnesota Storm. The GM there was recently voted number 1 in a media article of the best VHLM managers and he gave Ritchie both a sense of confidence and a promise of 1st line playing time for a team that was desperate for forwards to round out the roster. Ritchie has settled in at the Storm and has been seen coming and going from the practice facility getting in hours with the coaching staff. We caught a quik interview with him earlier. "The team has been so great to me so far, the locker room is really friendly and welcoming, guys like Kevin Foreskin @Esso2264 and Berocka Sundqvist @berocka have been so helpful getting me settled in to my new place and getting into the routine of the team. The Assistant GM @DMaximus also came and said hello along with some compliments on how I handled my Free Agency. It's been a great introduction to the league and I'm keen to get my skates on the ice for the first time as soon as possible." The young winger will likely make his debut in the upcoming pre-season tournament as long as preparations for the tournament in Hawaii go smoothly. There has been some concerns about whether the competing will manage to set itself up in time before the regular season commences.
  5. @Rayzor_7 you said we needed forwards?
  6. Review: Could use perhaps a separate little section to list his main personal info like hometown, position height etc but I don't hate having it done as sentence instead. Good formatting on the main text though putting the sub-headings for skills on a different line to the main text could make it look a bit better. The graphic is a really nice touch as well and add some character to the report.
  7. Review: Nice summary of his main stats and a good picture, could maybe center it for a sleeker look but that's personal preference. Good run down of the players strengths and weaknesses and descriptions of his play style. Gives a nice image of the kind of player Nolan is and will be. Good use of sub-headings as well to break up the article into bite-size sections.
