  1. Just getting our new guys more experience will pay dividends later in the season so I think we have to just get the some ice time and the results will pick up much like they did last season when we started slow. Pretty good, I was hoping to be a bit higher up the goal charts but 19 in 20 isn't bad at all. Breaking the 60 goal mark would be good in my opinion. It's gotta be Steve of course, he's been tearing it up out there, 45 points in 20 games says all you need to know, He's definitely on the road to being a top prospect in this league. Well obviously Saskatoon and Mexico City are the two names on everybody's lips at the moment but I also think Halifax are a better team than their results show at the moment so they could make some noise soon. A strong defenseman to shore up our back line would be greatly appreciated, we've scored the 2nd most goals in the league so we can hold our own on that end but there's two sides of the coin to focus on and we need some more defensive talent and effort if we want to be more consistent in the future Roadkill Steve of course, he's the best forward in the game at the moment and excellent at both finding the back of the net and picking out teammates for the assists. Yes definitely, the Marlins got me back into full activity and the LR atmosphere is great at welcoming new players and helping them get accustomed to how the league works.
  2. A goal and 3 assists, now that's a tasty game.
  3. Seattle 4-2

  5. Marlin's have more than 2 players again!!

  6. I took the positional data off the portal so if someone's playing a different position to what they are on the portal then that's why.
  7. Let's look at the two top teams in the league and how they stack up head-to-head in regards to positional strength and depth. Goaltenders There's not much you can say about this position, it's clear that the Wild have the advantage with a much more experienced goaltender in the net with Fontaine holding the superior GAA and save percentage with 1.94 and 0.894 compared to Fomba's 2.63 and 0.892. This does, however, indicate the possibility that the two are fairly equal shot stoppers with Fontaine's lead in GAA possibly being a result of being behind a better defense. The Saskatoon goaltender has faced only 273 shots compared to Fomba's 296 with Fomba playing 3 less games as well. Defensemen The defensemen of both teams stack up fairly well with 3 high quality players on each side along with a young rookie as additional depth. Though this time it's the Kings that have the star power in Summers who leads the way in tpe, however after him the next 3 players all line up on the other side of the ice for the Wild. DeYeeto, O'Quinn and E.T.E make a defensive core that is the foundation of a solid wall at the back, no doubt a huge component of the Wild's league leading defence. Centers This is where Saskatoon could blow Mexico City out of the water, all 3 players in the depth chart at C would be the best player in the same position for the Kings with Stavu being the clear best player in the middle of the ice. Dawson will have hard time keeping up and the Kings won't get any respite even when Stavu takes a breather on the bench with two excellent players ready to come on in his place for the league leaders. Forwards Once again the Kings do have a star player in Jaxxon Walker to contend with the Wild's RW star in Killy Foilen, however they somewhat lack the wealth in depth that Saskatoon are enjoying, though that's not to say they don't have backup weapons in their own arsenal. Trades to acquire Daldo and Markus Nygren leave the Kings in a decent position to go head to head with Saskatoon at the forward positions. In conclusion it's definitely advantage to Saskatoon, they have the talent and depth to make one hell of a season happen and at the time of publishing they are on a 14 game winning streak. Mexico do have the tools to challenge the Wild though and games between these two should make for some of the biggest spectacles we've seen in recent seasons. Mexico handed Saskatoon their only loss of the season so far in their first meeting in a home game for the Kings, goals by Nyko and Dawson in the 1st and early in the 2nd shot them out to a 2-0 lead before Nyman cut the Kings lead to 1. 5 minutes into the final period Alex Armstrong rebuilt the 2 goal deficit before K. Foilen struck back just 14 seconds later. A cagey game went down to the wire with the Wild on an all-out attack that bore no fruit resulting in Armstrong sweeping home the empty net goal with 20 second left on the clock to seal the game 4-2. The return game in Saskatoon was a less close game, a goal apiece in the 1st by Lahtinen and Foilen brought the home team an early lead which they extended in the 2nd. Ohradka, DeYeeto and Foilen combined for a further 3 goals with the visitors answering only once to go into the last period with a 5-1 lead. Saskatoon's Elliot Porter al but sealed the game with a penalty play goal 6 minutes in with Omdahl chipping in a consolation goal for the Kings for a final score of 6-2. With 6 more matchups in the schedule this season, VHLM fans are eagerly looking forward to these two team clashing again though many pundits question if the Kings have the necessary talent to keep up with the Wild over the course of the long season ahead. @Peace @Motzaburger @Aye my name jeff

  10. I'd say the NHL has folded in my head canon, Hockey lost it's national support in the US and moved to an international model instead to retain viewership and expand it's reach though at the cost of downsizing the number of teams. Mexico City I think, they've made some really smart moves in the off-season, picking up numerous players, I know they've got some great talent in Daldo and Nyurgen from San Diego. A HoF player, in that case you can say that you really did the best you could and the die just didn't fall your way, if you were a depth player your contributions will be forgotten about in short order I'd guess. though it depends how deep in the lines you were etc. I have a odd sleep schedule, the travel to games etc means I often fall asleep on the plane/coach. My teammates have ribbed me about being able to fall asleep anywhere but I say it's a blessing. Means I'm always pretty well rested and an afternoon nap before warming up for game is a common occurrence for me. It's gotta be Graves right? He was such a force in the Minors last season and having played a playoff series against him I'd say he's definitely ready for the next step up and to start facing the VHL goaltenders on an almost equal playing field. Gotta be Davos right, they've lost a lot of good guys and are gonna be bottom feeding for a few seasons I think, though they've got a decent GM so I think they'll be able to turn it around in short order.

  13. As most people have seen by now it seems like San Diego are clearing house, the GM has look at the sheer strength of other teams in the upcoming season like Mexico City and Saskatoon and made the tough decision that the Marlins don't have the assets to compete at that level for a championship. Therefore players are being shipped out to various destinations in return for picks in future drafts as San Diego move onto a rebuild. Some fans will be devastated given that last seasons playoff performance was perhaps the pinnacle of the franchise in recent years, taking Vegas to a hard found 6 game series where every game was decided by a single goal. Others will see the move as a necessary component of how the league runs in cycles and that the GMs flexibility in accepting the hard truths will lead to a brighter future for the team. San Diego receives: John DuBolk Ryan Dingle S70 MEX 1st S70 MEX 2nd Mexico City receives: Markus Nygren @Devise Big hitting LW Nygren moves on to a contender in Mexico City as the Marlins snag a couple of decent picks in return. He chipped in with 9 assists and goal in limited minutes but was definitely an impact on the game in other ways with 192 hits. Mexico City receives: Daldo @Harpskii San Diego receives: Kels Mills Little RiDog S70 MIS 3rd S71 MEX 1st S71 MEX 4th The young winger Daldo joins his teammate in Mexico City as well, the backup forward provided a spark off the bench for the Marlins last season, providing 19 assists and finding the net himself 14 times. Halifax receives: King Kruul @LefLop S71 SDM 2nd San Diego receives: S71 HFX 1st Another trade see's arguably the Marlins best defensive player last season move onward to Halifax this time and the Marlins move up a round in the draft in return. Kruul lead the entire league in hits last season by a wide margin, 270 hits put him 21 ahead of the 2nd place and he's sure to shore up the Halifax defence. San Diego receives: S71 MIS 1st S71 MIS 2nd S71 MIS 4th Mississauga receives: Will Clarke @Will Arguably the biggest trade of the lot so far. Will clarke was one of the standout stars in San Diego last season and his production from the defensman spot played a huge part in the Marlins late season resurgence to make the playoffs. He had the most points of any defenceman with 37-60-97. He excels as well in power play situations, tallying up 21 of his goals in power plays, which is tied for the most in the league. Despite these moves there's a still a fair amount of talent left on the roster that we might see on the move soon, most notably the star RW Roadkill Steve @stevo, he had a stunning season from the forward spot hitting 63 goals and 65 assists. The 3rd highest point total in the league last season, there's no doubt though that there's a fairly heavy price on his head set by the Marlins GM, as talent like Steve doesn't come around often, especially as he's likely going into his last year in the VHLM. The other lesser RW on the team likely up for grabs is Raleigh Ritchie who netted 45 goals and 40m assists last year after making significant strides since coming back from injury in the off-season last year and is making some name for himself despite being selected 61st in the S68 VHL draft.
  14. Not claiming this as a VHL article, just realised it was 500 words and will post in media spots instead.
