1. I found the GM and AGM both friendly, helpful, and attentive: Aware of their players. It's been good.
2. Not overly active, but not inactive, everyone who WAS active was helpful and friendly. Again, it was good.
3. Absolutely we will! I'm thinking, with some post-draft moves from our GM, we will probably make the semi-finals or finals.

5. I don't entirely know how the sim engine works, but I would focus on depth scoring. When your top lines slump, you need your bottom end to be able to take over for a while.
6. Well, one's that are easy for you to come up with, first and foremost. But otherwise, more personal for me, since I don't know the leagues to well. 

Everyone has to prepare for the draft. Every player, every Manager and every scout. But not everyone has to prepare their family, and this year that's exactly what O'Quinn has to do.
Though it may be considered a dead topic by now, as all O'Quinn seems to talk about is his family, it's obviously important to the VHLM rookie. 
 
After a succesful year in the VHLM with the Saskatoon Wild, ending the year 3rd in team points, just two points behind Julien Blackthorn, both players back from Sophomore sensation Ondrej Ohradka, his draft stakes are relatively high. He's not in the top tier, and he may fall out of the first round, but he definitely won't be ignored during this draft. With up to 8 rounds, being picked early in the second round is pretty solid, especially for a 34yo hockey veteran who finally decided to try his chances in the big league. He enters the draft alongside five other Saskatoon players, RJ Rubis, Kristopher McDogg, Sade Taika, Eliot Porter, and Andy Roche. 
 
For O'Quinn's family back in Nova Scotia, it's a scary time. The best case scenario for this father is ending up in New York or Toronto, with secondary choices in Calgary and Washington. Even if he ends up in these first choices, O'Quinn will be far from his family as he was this year. But, if the damage is brought full force, O'Quinn could end up in a place like Moscow. O'Quinn has indeed publicly stated he has no problem with Moscow, or any other Euroconf teams, O'Quinn ending up in these cities would spell issues for his family. If O'Quinn ended up in his favourite choice, New York, he would be only but a several hour flight from home, whereas if O'Quinn ended up far off in the capital of the largest country on earth, Russia, he would be almost an entire day's flight away from his family, which would severely decrease - if not altogether eliminate - potential regular visits with his family. 
 
Language, law and comfortability also come up into questioning; one may ask themselves: "If I end up in Russia, how difficult will it be for me to quickly learn Russian? Is there the same protection of personal rights and freedoms?" I do not, however, mean to discriminate against Russia. These are legitimate questions one would need to ask going to any new country in general, but especially as a professional sports player with millions in cash in their wallet.
 
Though it would be silly if a VHL prospective decided to outright deny himself the opportunity of playing in the VHL, simply because he did not want to play in the European conference, and vice versa, maybe one day a conversation should be brought to light, about players having their own say over these kind of things. The VHL has many variables, from timezones to families, players to law and tax, and accounting for all of these variables within the limited constraints of the VHL's own rules would be a fool's errand. But, attempting to rectify and control some of these issues, atleast, may be a good idea, if for nothing else but the comfort of the players which bring in the money.

Reporter Roger Pennies here, late last night I managed to trap O'Quinn into a phonecall, and I was able to question him about his hopes in the draft. Though he has already stated his opinions and options vaguely before, in one of the weekly Saskatoon press conferences, I valued the ability to question him directly.
 
R: "So, we're closing in on both the VHL and VHLM entry draft. Is there any teams in the VHL or VHLM you do want to be drafted to, specifically?"
 
O: "Well, as I've said before: I ultimately just want to play hockey. Besides my wife and my children, this sport is the love of my life. So at the end of the day, I just want to be drafted. However in saying that, I'd like to stay as close to home as I can. If I had to choose, I'd want to be drafted to Toronto, or New York, in the VHL. Nothing against the rest of the teams, but for the sake of my family above all else I'd like to remain close to home. I also wouldn't mind Washington, but i'm shooting for New York. As for the VHLM, I'd love to return to Saskatoon. You might call it backwards thinking, since Halifax is way closer to home, but I've loved it here in Saskatoon and my son has been talking about moving to Calgary."
 
R: "Ok, fair enough. You just wanna play the sport, I respect that. Eh, how about where you don't want to go? I guess you already answered this, but i'm asking anyways.
 
O: "Well, I'd have a tough time in the European conference. For reasons I already said... I want to stay close to home, close to family. Europe isn't where either of those things are. Now, I have a golf tourney to attend in the morning, so I need to hit the hay. Goodnight, Roger."

In the S69 VHL Amateur Entry Draft, there are currently three defensemen projected to be drafted top three. The first of these blue-liners is a possibly generational prospect in Brock Louth. When it comes to defense, there is little to no question that Louth is the best defenseman in the draft. After Louth, however, it gets interesting, as rivalry seems to be brewing between the smaller, younger German defenseman Erik Summers, and the larger, older Canadian Guy Sasakamoose. They have similar levels of TPE, and have been gaining at the same rate all season, climbing into the projected top 10 of the VHL Amateur Entry Draft.
 
- Guy Sasakamoose
Guy Sasakamoose is Canadian, born in Duck Lake, Saskatchewan, a small and historically significant town in Canadian history. Although his size was once a touchy subject for him, he is a very large, defensively sound blueliner who has grown at an alarming rate, with a weekly TPE gain averaged at 20. In his rookie season, Sasakamoose played for the Mississauga Hounds, who picked him up through last years VHLM Dispersal draft, though they surely didn't know what they were getting into when they drafted him all the way down at 32nd, having never played a game in the VHLM. He stormed out of the gates this season, registering 63 pts for the Hounds in 72 games, an excellent pace for a first-year defenseman. Additionally, in the on-going playoffs, Sasakamoose has registered 5 helpers in 5 games for the Hounds.
 
- Erik Summers 
Erik Summer is a German born blueliner, with a proud hockey family, his mother having played in the 1998 Olympics for Team Germany. He isn't the largest defenseman, but he isn't the smallest. He's right in the middle of the pack, owning a week-by-week growth of about 19 TPE. In Summers rookie season, he has played for the Houston Bulls, the VHLM's best regular season team. This means, however, that Summers had to fight hard for his icetime, and his individual stats may have suffered as a result of being on such a good team. Summers registered 33 pts in 72 games for the Bulls. In the playoffs, he has registered 2 pts in 4 games, although his team has been rather successful.
 
 
Both of these blueliners are highly valuable assets to their current VHLM team, and will be valuable assets to their proceeding VHL team, after the draft. Although it's up in the air in regards to whether or not they will make the VHL next season, they will likely make the VHL at the same time unless one is drafted to a serious contender and the other drafted to a rebuilder, which is entirely possible if one of them falls to the 2nd round, though that in of itself seems rather unlikely. However, I digress. Neither of them are Brock Louth, but they're both better than the closest S69 competition, O'Quinn, and they will likely be in a tier of their own for their whole careers, leading their respective franchises, if they both continue their outstanding growth.

David O'Quinn has been a shining member of the defensive team on the Saskatoon Wild. On a team that finished second last in the league, O'Quinn amounted 167 Hits and a whopping 123 Shots Blocked. He nearly reached a point per game as he just fell short with 69 points in 72 games. He is likely to be selected in the bottom of the first round, but will need more time to develop before being an impact player in the VHL. He is considered a late-bloomer defenseman who just fell off the mark in this draft class. With strong prospects like Louth, Summers, Saskamoose and Velvet, O'Quinn's name might be overlooked - however make no mistake, he is the fifth ranked prospect, and when you look back on this draft, he will be a significant player taken from this draft.

So what lesson is there to be learned here? Well, there really isn't. Throughout the years, tanking has been a successful tactic. There isn't any price that is too high for the cup, and if you spend everything you have to win the cup, and end up down the shitter for the next half decade, one could very easily argue it was all worth it. We're only on this earth for so long, and you likely want, and definitely need to accomplish as much as you can with the short time you have. So to all the general managers out there: Lose as much as you want, as long as you have a plan to take the league by storm and win a cup, who cares how bad you are right now. Fuck the critics. And to all the players, don't get demotivated if you're on a crappy team. Talk to your GM, find out their plan, and find out if you wanna stick around for it to work or move on. But there's always something you can do as a player too, and who knows, your team may just pull a Continental Cup out of it's ass.

When Steve asks, you answer.

1. What are your plans for the offseason?
I am so busy in real life I kind of am looking forward to just doing my 13 points, hopefully. This theme week has been hard, wish it had been announced a week ahead.

2. Did you think you met your goals this season as a player?
I think so, not very happy with my plus/minus. I don't want to be a scoring defenseman, more of a balanced once, but at -10 that's no good. I realize you have to roll with the team too, but I think I could have been better in plus/minus, hits and blocked shots.

3 What areas are you going to improve on before the start of next season?
Skating and Defence, but I will probably put five points into Leadership as it's irritating to have it at 45.

4. What position are we the weakest?
Not sure if this is true or not, I haven't bothered to check the updates, but we have a bunch of S66 forwards that are maybe not putting all into it.

5. Do you have a good feeling going into next season that we will do better?
Yes, I really like the potential of this team. Definitely playoffs next year, or bust. Cup the season after, if we can hold out.

6. Who did you like to play with during the season as a linemate?
You of course, but we're not very compatible, so Flowers @CowboyinAmerica of course.

7. We have a lot of good young talent on the team, will they be enough to push us into contenders?
The whole team seems kind of young, so yes. This is the strength. It's like a 1995 Detroit Red Wings or Colorado Avalanche, pick your poison.

8. Boris is becoming a beast, do you think he will be the top scorer on the team finally next season?
Possibly, yes. I still don't know the league or the engine well enough yet, but I can definitely see @chillzone becoming a dominant force in the league.

9. Our defense is really taking shape. Do you feel there should be any additions to the backend?
I think we need one more, I would go for @JohnOQuinn.

10. Do you think there wil be more attention to making lines that work this next season?
As long as you are around nagging the brass I am sure there will be.

The S60 Toronto Legion are, by far, the worst team in VHL History. With a record of 4-67-1, for a point total of.. 9... no team may ever be quite as bad as the Legion were that year. Let's expand.

This veteran winger was standing on his last legs - on a team without any solid ground at all. They forced him to play 28 mins a game, and he ended up with 40 pts.

I couldn't really find anything on him. He had 43 pts, and was a rookie.
 
Matt Denning - RW
Another rookie who I couldn't find any information on.
 
Jakub Pastrnak - LW
A veteran presence with a few years left on him, he was nothing more than a minor depth piece.
 
Defensemen
Luca Volkov - D
Possibly their only decent player, Volkov ended his career with 330 pts in 447 games. He was good, and had 53 pts that year as a veteran presence.
 
Jean-Claude Girard - D
Antother Veteran, Girard was a bottom pair D for his career, and was okay this year. 
 
Nicodemus Raven - D
ANOTHER rookie I couldn't find any information on.
 
Goaltender (singular)
Brienne O'Tarth... yeah, another no-name rookie...
 
 
So, the legion really sucked. They only had four players with any career history, and only one who was truly notable, being Volkov.
 

1. "I'm not really sure. I try not to think about that stuff too much, but I like a lot of the rookies on this team. Whoever is on this team next year, I just want to be a part of it."
2. "Well I hope they catch me! My wife has been going on and on about how she thinks i'm going to be a high pick this year. I don't really much care for the semantics, but I just hope here in the VHLM I stick around here in Saskatoon. As for the VHL, I'd like to stay near home." 
6. "I think, to some degree, it's my duty to follow everything that happens. Obviously I can't, and I won't, watch every game, but knowing who to watch out for on the ice is important. Knowledge is power, you know, you gotta keep up with the times before you're left behind."
7. "I don't think I've ever looked at my own stats, not once. It's all about the team, and whether the team wins. I've been told i'm doing pretty good this year, but beyond that I don't know anything about my stats. I can say that I've been working very hard this year, that I'm happy with my progress, and the team has been winning more, but I can always improve. I hope I always will, yknow?"
8. "I think i probably sound like a broken record with this one, but the goal is for the team to win. If that means I don't score a goal all season, that's okay. But if I need to score 20 for us to keep winning, that's where my eyesight will be set. It's about the team at the end of the day.
9. "Hahaha, ahh. My wife went to college there, so I don't have a choice but to root for them."
