  1. Hello @TheStranger and welcome to the VHL! I'm GustavMattias, GM of the Mississauga Hounds, and I'm here to extend you an offer. I'm a defenseman myself, so I value people like you and I wish I could have more of them. ...Which brings me to this: I'd like you to sign with the Hounds. If you sign here, you'll be on a team that's a legitimate contender for success, on the second pairing with time on both the power play and penalty kill. If this sounds good to you, just quote my offer and say "accepted" to join the team, and we'll get you on our roster. All in all, good luck, and feel free to ask any questions you might have! -Gustav
  2. I finally did something as well. Lopsided shot differential and not in the right way, but good production from Jerry and a big win.
  3. MURICA
  4. When I kicked off these roast threads, I made a promise to myself and all of you to get a thread up right at the start of every week. As of late, this hasn't exactly been the case--the last couple were put up mid-week, and last week I didn't post one at all. So, I'd like to apologize for being slow. But thank God I'm not @Quik. Fuck it, I'm sure you guys will have some fire for me. Joined in S1, with all the OG builders. Was part of the definitely not-rigged S1 Champs. Had 3 HoF players. Left for about 7 years. Came back. Made a 4th HoF player. Became GM of Helsinki (for a 2nd time). Became Commish. Deleted Saskatoon in the portal. Made them a better logo (that has since been lost in the aether of time). Apparently fucked up the S67 draft order. Won't give Rookies rights. GIVE OUR OTHER COMMISSIONER EVERYTHING YOU'VE GOT. Tagging those who signed up here, with my usual statement-- to read the rules, or to sign up, click here. If you're tagged and don't want to be, or if you don't want to sign up but would like to be tagged in these threads anyway, let me know.
  5. Garcia finally gets a star (after deserving one but not getting it many times), and this time he doesn't deserve it. I don't understand how these things work.
  6. Job pay analysis article coming in 3 weeks. If you haven't done the survey and would like to, here it is: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1bs4_O4u9ciefHDQ6mad4-TfzZozc4sCMvFxE5pjp_no/edit

  7. Stop stealing our points you selfish forward.
  8. I forgot to include the "Bana's mock didn't miss a single pick"
  9. This is something I've wanted to write up for a while, but since I've got this week plus the next two in media spots saved up, plus a big article planned after that, I figured that I should just throw a big article in here, and claim a couple points for this week while I've got the time to write something. Anyway, you may have remembered that way back at the time of the draft, I was part of a great big article that put the "big boy media spot" in "big boy media spot." This 6,350-word mock draft was supposed to be the single most comprehensive view of the draft, and we hoped that it might be the most accurate out of everything that had been put up as well. So was it really? We'll have to take a look at our performance, both individual and cumulative, to see how it went, and that's exactly what I'll do. I'll be looking at a few different categories here, and here's a template for the analysis, complete with explanation: Member Name Correct Guesses: [A list of all picks guessed correctly by that member] Within One: [A list of all picks guessed correctly, or within one pick of their actual selection] % Correct: [Percentage of picks guessed correctly] % Within One: [Percentage of picks guessed correctly, or within one pick of their actual selection] Distance from Actual Selection (Mean/Variance/SD): This will be a set of three numbers showing, basically, how far off this person's guess for each player was from their actual choice. The first number will be the average distance between the guess and the actual selection, and both of the other numbers will show how consistent that member's guessing was (if my poor explanation doesn't make sense to you, the lower these numbers are, the better). So on with the analysis! Frostbeard Correct Guesses: Condor Adrienne (#1) Lance Flowers (#2) Thorny Underyew (#3) Jeff Downey (#4) Frans Eller (#6) Tony Bolonee (#36) Within One: Condor Adrienne (#1) Lance Flowers (#2) Thorny Underyew (#3) Jeff Downey (#4) Frans Eller (#6) Kaspars Claude (#14, guessed #13) Tony Bolonee (#36) % Correct: 15.8% % Within One: 18.4% Distance from Actual Selection (Mean/Variance/SD): 6.33 32.07 5.66 Gustav Correct Guesses: Condor Adrienne (#1) Lance Flowers (#2) Thorny Underyew (#3) Jeff Downey (#4) A Red Guy (#8) Fredrik Elmebeck (#9) Raymond Bernard (#11) Wolf Stansson Jr. (#12) Owen Nolan (#13) Ricky Johnson (#18) Finnegan MacBurn (#23) Within One: Condor Adrienne (#1) Lance Flowers (#2) Thorny Underyew (#3) Jeff Downey (#4) Frans Eller (#6, guessed #7) A Red Guy (#8) Fredrik Elmebeck (#9) Raymond Bernard (#11) Wolf Stansson Jr. (#12) Owen Nolan (#13) Kaspars Claude (#14, guessed 15) Ricky Johnson (#18) Aamon Grim (#22, guessed #21) Finnegan MacBurn (#23) Tony Bolonee (#36, guessed #35) Alyksander Hunter (#39, guessed #38) % Correct: 28.9% % Within One: 42.1% Distance from Actual Selection (Mean/Variance/SD): 4.32 22.74 4.77 McWolf Correct Guesses: Condor Adrienne (#1) Lance Flowers (#2) Thorny Underyew (#3) Within One: Condor Adrienne (#1) Lance Flowers (#2) Thorny Underyew (#3) Jeff Downey (#4, guessed #5) Frans Eller (#6, guessed #7) Aamon Grim (#22, guessed #21) % Correct: 7.9% % Within One: 15.9% Distance from Actual Selection (Mean/Variance/SD): 6.53 32.46 5.70 Renomitsu Correct Guesses: Condor Adrienne (#1) Lance Flowers (#2) Thorny Underyew (#3) Jeff Downey (#4) Within One: Condor Adrienne (#1) Lance Flowers (#2) Thorny Underyew (#3) Jeff Downey (#4) Frans Eller (#6, guessed #7) Kaspars Claude (#14, guessed #13) Seabass Perrin (#17, guessed #18) Alyksander Hunter (#39, guessed #38) % Correct: 10.5% % Within One: 21.1% Distance from Actual Selection (Mean/Variance/Standard Deviation): 5.55 31.67 5.63 Combined Guesses (Order of Combined Mock): Correct Guesses: Condor Adrienne (#1) Lance Flowers (#2) Thorny Underyew (#3) Jeff Downey (#4) Kaspars Claude (#14) Within One: Condor Adrienne (#1) Lance Flowers (#2) Thorny Underyew (#3) Jeff Downey (#4) Frans Eller (#6, guessed #7) Kaspars Claude (#14) Ricky Johnson (#18, guessed #17) % Correct: 13.2% % Within One: 18.4% Distance from Actual Selection (Mean/Variance/SD): 5.92 27.18 5.21 So, apparently, my guesses were relatively spot-on (and no, I didn't know this before I wrote this up). Here are some rankings for every category: Correct Guesses: 1. Gustav (11) 2. Frostbeard (6) 3. Combined (5) 4. Renomitsu (4) 5. McWolf (3) Within One: 1. Gustav (16) 2. Renomitsu (8) 3. Frostbeard (7) T3. Combined (7) 5. McWolf (6) Lowest Mean Difference: 1. Gustav (4.32) 2. Renomitsu (5.55) 3. Combined (5.92) 4. Frostbeard (6.33) 5. McWolf (6.53) Lowest Standard Deviation: 1. Gustav (4.77) 2. Combined (5.21) 3. Renomitsu (5.63) 4. Frostbeard (5.66) 5. McWolf (5.70) So, in short, my guesses were the most trustworthy overall, while McWolf's were the least. Renomitsu and Frostbeard ended up fighting the combined mock for the final ranking, and among them, Renomitsu's picks were, on average, closest to the players' actual selections, though the combined list was more consistent overall due to its lower standard deviation. Frostbeard likely brought up the rear among the middle three as far as consistency goes, but managed to call the most picks out of the middle group. Will something like this happen again? If so, who will win the battle for ultimate mock draft supremacy? This concludes my "VHL.com Article" for the week. @McWolf @FrostBeard @Renomitsu
  10. BREAKING: SPECULATION ARISES THAT DAVOS WILL REBUILD AGAIN! "We haven't entered a rebuild for the last 10 games or so," says uncertain front office
  11. That was...fast.
  12. Three points and not even a single star? What is this anti-Jerry bias; I don't think I've gotten a star all season.
  13. For the week ending 10/6: 1. The Hounds committed themselves to buying this week, spending two picks in S70 for defenseman Finnegan MacBurn. Is this a good move? Do we have what it takes to win it all? 2. Speculation about team management has escalated this week, with @GlowyGoat making his nickname "berocka is a racist" and "gustav is a stalinist" on a couple separate occasions. Who's a bigger concern, myself or @berocka? Who gets overthrown first? 3. Which team would the Hounds beat easily in the playoffs? 4. Which team would you least want us to face in the playoffs? 5. You have to describe hockey to someone unfamiliar with the sport in 10 words or fewer. What do you say? 6. Pick any VHL player whose build you'd like to emulate and tell me who it is and why (if you don't know your VHL players, now is the time to do some research!). @ColeMrtz21 @Cxsquared @Patrik Tallinder @GlowyGoat @Tigris @Krice13 @TukTukTheGreat @Radcow @Garrett @Ckbruinfan @efiug @DizzyWithLogic @Kmillsy
  14. Claiming for the week ending 10/6.

  17. Well, I know I wasn't unique, just that I wasn't doing what was perceived to be the "average defenseman build" way back in the days of 3 seasons ago.
  18. The little people love me. 856
  19. Even when I created in S65, I read some articles where a few people (I think you were even one of them) complained about the fact that every defenseman is basically trying to be a forward. So I took pride in being very pass-first and defensive then. Now I'm not special anymore and I don't know how to feel about that.
  20. I mean, it can change. There's nothing about what I said that makes this any different, just that my system is a better way to actually track the seasons a player's been through (plus, it allows for age variance if you don't just want to be 18). Nothing wrong with changing the player's age every season--in fact, I was slightly disappointed to see that it doesn't change. Just that "5" is easier to take as "5th season" than "23."
  21. What about just a "Season" tab that (as long as the player isn't retired) shows the player's current season? For example, their first VHLM season (the one that doesn't count), they'll be listed as R, and from there, 1, 2, 3, and so on, up to 8 in their final season. Seems a bit easier and clearer than changing the player's age.
  22. I wasn't exactly thinking "da Bears" when I read the title either.
  23. Obligatory legal disclaimer for those wondering: This is a Hounds meme; my AGM is not in reality alt-right.
  24. But DEFENSE REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
